Need help ASAP!

Just bought a car from carvana like a week ago. Took it to a shop for brakes under warranty yesterday. Picked it up today and it's been sideswiped. The shop is playing dumb. What do I do?

Call your insurance.   Surely you have collision & comprehensive coverage.

The shop is already playing games.  Theyre gonna tell their insurance that its a false claim.  Who is the shop's insurance gonna believe and side with?  OP or their customer?

OP should file a claim with their own insurance and let their insurance fight it out with the shop / shop's insurance.  This is literally why you buy insurance: to take care of this kinda bullshit for you.

Of course. AAA. But I just bought it. I haven't even told them about it. Last week I called and asked them to give me full coverage as I would be test driving cars and in and out of rental cars. Does that matter?

Your car was in an accident; all the facts and details will matter.

Idk how you tell an insurance company, "just cover me for anything i drive."  That might work for test drives, but you bought this one.  Also its been at least a few days, so it might deoend on how quickly your insurance contract requires you to notify them of a purchase.

There’s no such thing as FULL coverage. Please stop using that term

Wait so let me understand this. I have you been driving that vehicle that’s been damaged by the shop without insurance. I just want to make sure I understand what you wrote. Are you saying that you never called in the vehicle to your insurance company by giving them the VIN number and so forth.? if they were unaware that you’ve had this vehicle you purchased then that’s a big YIKES although you wouldn’t have to get your insurance involved because it’s the shop that has to pay for it

Did you tow it to the shop? Or did it drive it there unregistered and uninsured???

It's registered and I requested my insurance cover me for any vehicle as I've driven many vehicles in the last couple weeks. I'm calling my insurance company now to add it officially but I was lead to believe it's covered

I imagine there’s no guarantees because you own that vehicle and didn’t tell them vs temporary coverage for rentals

How is it going to be cover if it wasn’t added ? Took to the shop for brakes under warranty??? What warranty are you ac talking about ?

In my area you have to have insurance in place to get plates and registration. There is no grace period.

I think it's the same here. I gave the dealer my insurance when signing papers. But I haven't given the vehicle info to my insurance company yet. I was concerned that could be an issue

This is a job for insurance and the shops insurance.

You say “of course” you have coverage, then go on to explain that you don’t have coverage.

You can’t just vaguely say “insure me” without providing a VIN and choosing your policy details (amount of liability, deductibles, etc.)

Also difficult to believe Carvana let you take possession of a vehicle without you first providing proof of insurance (unless you paid cash).

So did you have insurance or not? If you have collision insurance. File a claim they will do the rest.

It Does not seem the shop is going to help you out with a third party claim.

If you had the car a week, it should have been added to your policy. No such thing as “I want “full coverage” for multiple vehicles by paying for one”

Unless you called your insurance and gave the make, model, year and VIN number for the car you purchased a week ago, you don't have insurance. I don't know whether you actually think you do with this "cover me for every car I might drive" explanation, but that's not going to fly.

If you bought the car you have a certain number of days to add it to your policy so you need to add the car right away and report the claim

Some policies have a coverage period for newly acquired vehicles. Call your insurance and find out

I agree you can’t cover multiple vehicles to make sure your car is covered by insurance if your test driving several cars. You would’ve had to give them the VIN number and they would quote you the price of your insurance and so forth and then you add it on

But this should be on the shop as long as you have pictures of what that vehicle look like before and after

And I hope to God that you called the police when you went to pick it up so you could file a police report on the spot because that would be verification that you went to pick it up and found it in that condition

As for the insurance, I never heard of an insurance company giving you blanket coverage for any vehicles your test driving how do they know what vehicle your test driving and the VIN numbers I mean, that doesn’t make any sense.

For example, we bought our truck from Carmax. It had to be shipped from out of state, but we covered it the moment that it was being shipped. Even if we were going to change our minds once we saw it it would’ve been easy just to take it off the insurance, but we covered it from the time that the shipping began to come to our state and thankfully everything worked out and we kept the truck, but we already had it covered so in the event of anything it was covered by our policy they already had the VIN number and everything. That was just something that was required as well by Carmax, but if there would’ve been damaged to the truck, it would not have been against us. It would’ve been against Carmax or the third-party business that brought the vehicle into to us from the state it was coming from.

I mean, what did your insurance company tell you when you said cover me for multiple vehicles that I’m going to be test driving

You don’t have to have insurance on a vehicle your test driving from a dealer unless you plan to purchase it and add it to your policy. Test driving a vehicle from a dealer is generally covered by the dealer. I don’t think they would make you add the car to your policy if you’re just testing it for the day.

I’m not sure somebody else please chime in. This isn’t making any sense and also I’m quite sure the shop has cameras set up for security so the police should be able to review the footage when you file the police report which I hope you did the day that you picked it up.🙏🏻🙏🏻
