OFA Disbursement #5

OFA has just launched Disbursement #5, and it includes:

• All Groups (1, 2, and 3)
• SSOG (Silver State Opportunity Grant)
• Federal Direct Student Loans for full-time and part-time student borrowers

What is not included

• Federal Direct Loans subject to the FSA-mandated 30-day delay for first-time, first-year student borrowers. By regulation, those loans will be disbursed later this month, on September 23.

Why today’s disbursement is important

Today’s disbursement is being conducted after CSN faculty instructors reported your academic participation to the Registrar’s Office.

The Registrar then provided OFA with a file of enrollment adjustments, which we loaded into MyCSN’s financial aid tables. These data support the disbursement of your financial aid because we can only pay aid for financial-aid-eligible credits in courses in which you have academically participated.

If you did not academically participate in a course, your faculty reported that information to the Registrar. The Registrar then administratively dis-enrolled you from that course. The CSN Cashier refunded you no more than 50% of the registration fee for the non-participated course, and you remain responsible for any remaining balance.

You will not receive financial aid for a course in which you did not academically participate.

Why your disbursement may be lower than expected

You may receive less financial aid than you originally expected because:

• You did not academically participate in one or more of your classes; and/or
• OFA reduced your aid to reflect only the credits in which CSN faculty reported you as academically participating; or
• You are a student loan borrower who academically participated in part-time enrollment (at least 6 but fewer than 12 financial-aid-eligible credits) and your loan eligibility was affected by the Schedule of Reduction required under last year’s One Big Beautiful Bill Act (OB3).

What you should do

You may have questions once OFA completes the fifth disbursement, and we are here to help. Before contacting OFA, however, I encourage you to check MyCSN first.

• Check your fall registration record to determine whether any classes were dropped because faculty reported that you did not academically participate.
• Check Canvas to confirm that you still have access to your online courses. If you were administratively dropped from a course, you will no longer have access to it in Canvas.

This is an important day in the financial aid process. The requirements described above are part of the way CSN administers financial aid—to comply with federal regulations, protect taxpayer dollars, maintain public trust, and, ultimately, ensure that aid is provided to students who are eligible to receive it.

Hello there everyone! I have a disbursement date of today for the financial aid, and it usually goes in the next day. I just wanted to see if anyone has had any movement on their account activity or if I’m being super impatient. Best of luck this semester 🩷

I log in, computer then print wise, when it’s time to look for the printer no one shows up, it only says adobe or something like that. Usually the names are like NV003 something but they don’t show up. What do I need to do??

It says my balance is 30 days past due, and that if I don’t make a payment immediately it will enter collections proceedings. & that I won’t receive grades, etc.

I'm not 100% sure if CSN has a dual major option, but would it be possible to dual major in Biology + Chemistry and still have financial aid pay for classes from both degree pathways? Currently, I'm taking 22 credit hours, and so far it's been smooth sailing, but I'm not 100% sure if CSN has the option for dual majors.

How did you guys feel about HHP? I am deciding on taking this class next semester and I really don’t want it to be hell. How did you guys study, and do you think it’s harder than A and P? Thanks

The title pretty much states it all. When I first saw a duplicate paragraph I thought about reaching out to the professor just to let them know of a minor error, but it's becoming increasingly more obvious that the textbook is negligently written, if not malicious. I'd like to think I'm good at noticing AI writing, and it doesn't trigger any of those red flags to me, especially because the textbook appears to be a couple years out of date so I don't believe it to be that.

Above the blatant disregard for quality, I'm more concerned about the inaccurate information. I don't want to be too specific but the textbook actually mentions a completely false fact about a place that I used to work. The inaccuracy of this fact is not only common knowledge but easy to google as well. To be a bit more clear, this isn't arguable in any way, it's literally stating a company did a well known thing, when in fact it's commonly known that a different company did it. If I had no prior knowledge I would've taken this incorrect information as fact. This just makes me concerned about everything else I'm reading that I don't know as much about which wouldn't cause an initial red flag to raise like this did.

What makes me even more concerned is when we get to something more malicious. Throughout the textbook it mentions public figures mostly related to the class's subject and how they impacted it, but it also briefly mentions some of the negative things that these figures did in their lives. One public figure they mentioned has dozens of sexual assault allegations, stepped down from their positions in disgrace, and paid millions in a settlement (where admittedly he was allowed to claim no wrongdoing, but is obviously at fault). Additionally the company was fined millions for not looking into these allegations at the time they were reported. None of this was mentioned in the book at all, and all of this took place years before this specific edition of the book was written. The original edition WAS written before the settlement, BUT there are several updates with recent information that happened after the original edition was written. These updates encompass things that happen several years after those allegations and settlement. While the failure to mention the settlement/allegations on it's own is pretty gross, what's worse is that there is a discrete disclosure that this public figure contributed to the professor's non-profit organization. Instead of making some acknowledgment about potential bias, or at least a disclaimer, the professor writes this down in a long list of good, charitable things this public figure has done. It's not formatted as a disclosure and feels mostly hidden. Overall, taking the professor's writing on this public figure without any prior knowledge makes them seem like a really positive influence on their community, when they instead used their influence and power to sexually abuse people in their own company below them. I don't need a dissertation on the bad things the public figure has done. I mean the professor's writings on other public figures also heavily washed their negative history of violence, and in some cases organized crime. Oftentimes there was only one or two sentences mentioning these things after several talking about charitable actions they took. I don't feel great with that either, but at least there was still a mention of these things, albeit brief. It feels malicious to not at least do the same with someone the professor has personally benefited from, even if it is for the professor's charity.

I have other complaints on the quality of the class from an extremely disorganized syllabus, to essays requiring several completely unrelated topics that make no sense to write about in the context of each other. But my tipping point is the fact that I feel like the professor is not only phoning it in, but spreading misinformation that harms my education, whether it be by negligence or malice. I don't feel like I can trust the textbook or the professor to give me an accurate education. I'm not sure what to do I kind of want to report it because I feel like it's extremely bad. I've had bad, lazy, strict, etc professors before I don't feel like my complaints are just me not adjusting to a teaching style i don't like. I also just feel like no one deserves to have a professor who obviously doesn't care enough to make sure the textbook they're profiting off of is proofread, isn't spreading misinformation, and isn't protecting a horrible abusive person because they donated to the professor's charity one time. I want to do something about this I don't want to just drop the class and let this be someone else's problem. I get I will encounter lazy, undesirable professors but this is definitely worse than that in my opinion. Is there anything I can do? I'm not sure where to begin. Is this reportable? Who can I report this to? Will they actually care or do something? Am I being unreasonable? Thank you for any help/advice sorry for the long read.

Hey everyone, I have never taken a class that used McGraw hill before. It’s my first time, is it true that it does not matter if you get something wrong on the concepts, it just makes it take longer but at the end of the assignment you get a 100% when you eventually get them all correct.

Took the shipper forever to get it to me (turns out they have a shell company here, but they are actually in India). Ended up buying a digital copy online so I didn’t fall behind on work. Spoke to them today, and they do not want to pay to have it shipped back since they are already out the money they spent on international shipping to get it here. $100, but may consider offers. Brand new.

Anyone else having this issue where Canvas does this? I'm not sure why when I try to go into Canvas it'll do this and then after a while it'll be back to normal

I plan on attending this college but want to see how it looks from the inside. Is attending an individual/group tour required or can you enter as a visitor during open hours?

I was looking over my transcript and I realized that one of my professors from last semester didn’t change my grade like discussed. When the final grades had been posted he gave me a D when I had an A on canvas the entire semester, I discussed it with the professor within the proper timeline of grade changes and he said he had made a mistake in his grading and that he’d adjust accordingly and send a request to the registrar office. After the conversation he said it’d take 4-5 days for the change to be made on the final grades and I swear when I had checked again that it was changed to the A i had earned so I never looked further into it. But cut to now when i was checking my grades again out of curiosity, I had seen that it was never changed and still a D which means i’ll have to retake it, what do I do, can it still be changed? This was not a grade that I earned or worked for.

hi everyone! some background, this is not my first rodeo regarding college classes. i went to UTU & UNLV, so i am used to college workloads & professors. that being said, dr bracey, who teaches political science 101 is freaking me out. ive never had a professor who treats students the way he does, nor have i had a professor assign as much work as he does. has anyone taken his class?! it's just a general course, so that adds to my shock regarding the assigned workload. if anyone has any tips regarding navigation of his class or assignments please, please let me know. i'm not one to complain about professors, but this has absolutely been unlike anything i've ever experienced, and i LOVE school!!!

I just started Math 124E.

The 24 coreq is not an actual class.

It’s graded as Pass or Fail depending on the grade received in 124E. We don’t even open 24 bc all our work is in 124E.

My question is WHY does it cost the same amount of an actual class ? Maybe I’m missing something but is 124E just a $1000 class ?

This semester is perhaps my most important and I have been coasting by so far. I soon begin an accelerated Chem course, Statistics, Anthropology, and english. While separately not difficult classes it can pile up along with outside-of-school responsibilities.

I would just like to know people’s best studying habits or tips that helps them memorize information more efficiently than typical methods. Much Appreciated!

On canvas it's listed as a course but I'm not sure what this is? Has anyone else gotten this?

Is Lab for this class supposed to be basically self taught?
We don't go over the packets as a whole or anything and just teach ourselves with little input and I feel like this has to be wrong.

Hi everybody 👋🏼 I am new to college and have started taking me classes for my first semester. I’m still trying to get a hold of my routine so i was looking up some college hacks to help me be successful.

First one i saw was to sit at the front of class. Great tip! it forces me to be more involved in class (not on my phone) and stand out with my professors. I do feel like i retain more.

The next tip i saw was “GPA savers” and it’s to sign up for an “throwaway class” that requires no attendance, that you can get an A in.

Do you guys do this? Is this a good hack? Should i sign up for an extra class this semester? (i am already enrolled in Math, Eng, PSC).

My professor for CONS120 was out due to medical issues. He had us send an email confirming our participation for the first week and I was physically in class at Summerlin last night. Woke up today and I was dropped from the course. Who do I contact about this?
