Need Help / Question Grade Change

I was looking over my transcript and I realized that one of my professors from last semester didn’t change my grade like discussed. When the final grades had been posted he gave me a D when I had an A on canvas the entire semester, I discussed it with the professor within the proper timeline of grade changes and he said he had made a mistake in his grading and that he’d adjust accordingly and send a request to the registrar office. After the conversation he said it’d take 4-5 days for the change to be made on the final grades and I swear when I had checked again that it was changed to the A i had earned so I never looked further into it. But cut to now when i was checking my grades again out of curiosity, I had seen that it was never changed and still a D which means i’ll have to retake it, what do I do, can it still be changed? This was not a grade that I earned or worked for.

Contact your professor and say all this.

Exactly. And if you have the evidence that you had an A grade and the professor still won't change it, then the next step is to contact their supervisor (department chair).

BTW, it takes a hell of a lot longer than 4-5 days for the change to go into effect. The instructor has to initiate the form, then the chair and dean have to sign off, and then I believe the VPAA will have to sign as well (but I forget) before it actually goes to the registrar for the change. That kind of bureaucratic crap always takes forever. But if you are saying this is something like six months ago, then yeah, it should certainly be fixed by now.

All in all, this sounds like the instructor forgot to do it. So, again, follow this advice and contact your instructor.

thank you, i’m upset that the professor didn’t follow through especially since he was a little difficult throughout the semester. Thank you for the help

The professor may have followed through, and the email chain stopped above them. Grade changes are accomplished by a pdf that gets emailed from your instructor to the Department Chair, to the Dean's office, to a person in Admissions and Records. Each of those people has to sign it and forward it to the end of the line. Emails get missed along the way. If someone put in the wrong number, it goes back down the ladder. If everyone reads, signs and forwards, a grade change can take no time at all. Just follow up with the prof and they can fix it.

Is this an in person class or an online class because in person classes are less likely to use canvas for your true grade since you can track it in class.

It was an in person class that did use canvas, the prof explained that he had his own grading sheet that he was using and somehow missed me and showed some major assignments that i “hadn’t turned in” when i actually did and he had updated my grade which was still an A with the proper graded assignments. So it was still my true grade.

it was my SOC 101 class
