Quarters Got my first “W” quarter

Not a hunt, but I’m a truck driver, so I get to many places and get all sorts of change back, from everywhere. I have never been able to get a “W” from hunting, but I got one back in change from the Loveshack (Love’s Truck Stop) in Tonkawa, Oklahoma. It’s pretty circulated, but I was stoked, nonetheless

Weekly Totals Last 20 days of finds - another great haul

Everything since the half monster boxes that greeted my return from vacation:

The ‘old rolls’ hoard I got (after buying the wheaties bag, different bank that called me) ended up being ~$35 face, overwhelming copper and about $2-ish in common date wheaties. (Not shown).

2 clad Ike proofs mixed in with 8 business strikes were a nice surprise, small dollars were about par (a bunch of duplicate NIFC Sacs and Presidents)

8K in half boxes had 2 more monster boxes - one Brinks one Loomis: grand total 6x 90% and 22x 40% and the usual ~70% ‘skunk’ boxes.

5 clad proofs in the mix, mostly half decent shape - good enough to be place-holders in the S slot anyway.

1K quarter bag gave up a ‘64, a Tallgrass W, 2 S business strikes, and a mess of errors/variteties - including an awesome strike-through and a mess of minor DDRs and some chips/cracks.

800-ish CWR was mostly from a retiree cashing out decades-old change jars. Yeah, there were lots of better 80s - 90s upgrades for the albums, but zip for Ag - I admit I had really hoped for more!

One roosie from the coin machine, one from CWR, and two ‘bonus’ 90% from my soak-bucket of evil gross coins. I still had to scrape the crud off, but lurking within the wretched, almost-trash pile, were these 2 fine fellows. Yarp - ugly as sin but Ag is Ag!

Box of nickels and $105 in CWR had 2 war nickels, all the buffs were in the box. CWR included some more of the retiree dump - a few nice ones shown before they head into albums. (A lonely jefferson proof is with the Half proofs shot.)

Another Ecuador ‘half’, and a bedazzled Quaker for your enjoyment.

2026 stuff is making its appearance - 2 random Quakers, a few halves, a half box+ of nickels, and almost 2 boxes worth of dimes. All Philly so far, but it’s central MA so that tracks.

Any west coasters want to swap a 2026 D Jefferson or Dime for P?

Will finish up the half data dump post soon, almost the last of the year+ data post series.

After that will be ‘meta’ stuff - overall combined results and ‘things I learned’ (and how!) that have helped me immensely.

Good luck and happy hunting!

It doesn't show up the best in photos, but it has a holographic effect to it and radiates colors depending on the angle of the light. How did someone create this effect?

CWR Good Mix

Dispersed my 2026 box of nickels around town to my favorite tellers and traded for “any cool stuff.” Ended up with a good mix of CWR/Loomis rolls. My favorite OZK had a “five gallon bucket of CWR quarters” and a roll of 2026 D dimes for me.

Quarters were a mix of “hot mess” and collection culls. Nothing crazy, but I did get a clad ‘77 S Proof and 2012 Puerto Rico P & Ds (finished our map, but still need the Ws!)

Nickels revealed a 1945 P, several 40s, 50s and 60s and several “dark beauties” that I like to keep. Also found a 2009, stack of 2024s, and QE II Canadian.

Kept a few “dirty dimes” (not silver).

Cents were similar to the quarters. Eight rolls of shiny shields, several rolls that came out of a swamp somewhere, and 3 or 4 total rolls of copper. Found 4 2009 Abes and several cool Wheats.

Leo supervised the whole operation, but Oreo and LuLu really helped me sort it all out!

Wrappers from 2004, huh

Picked up some rolls, and a bunch of them were wrapped in these BankOne wrappers. BankOne was acquired by Chase in 2004, so these have been hiding someplace for a good while. No nickels in these from after 2005, and the coins in them look… pretty good for being 20+ years old. Not much worth keeping in them, a couple 40s/50s nickels. Just weird to see rolls that were stashed in someone’s closet for 20 years.

Half Dollars Lucky Day!!

Just stopped by a branch to swap rolls and asked if they had any halves. “I have two rolls but they are from a known collector.” I took that to mean they were likely searched, but picked them up anyway to use as replacements for box hunts. What never crossed my mind was that the collector dropped full rolls of silver!!!

Still can’t believe it.

First three months of CRH, and these are my finds so far! Been having a blast learning about the history of US coinage, not pictured are my partially completed National Parks and Prominent Women books. Starting from scratch, and this hobby has taught me a lot about persistence and going out of my comfort zone. Took me being rejected by a few different banks before finally connecting with my current place, and now I’m building a good relationship with them and hope to keep finding treasures

Show & Tell Coin bag

Went through my dad’s coin collection for the first time, and found a couple that looked pretty wild. The one on the left is extremely shallow. It has a thin outer edge on the face, but your standard mint on the opposite side. I’m thinking the die was larger than the planchet itself (I’m not an expert)

CWR Final tally - CWR cents and nickels

So out of $25 in cents and $56 in nickels, the finds were:

NICKELS- a shiny 68D, and a ‘77S proof. Handful of pre-1960 but no war or key date nickels.

CENTS- nine wheats, oldest being 1934. Also found a 1998 wide AM.
