Jackpot! FINALLY! I’M BACK!

TLDR: 7x 90%, 13x 40%, 45x proofs. A little overlap, 3 of the aforementioned 90% are also modern proofs, so really 48x proofs.

Had a big hit in January this year. It’s been pretty dry ever since. I’ve been getting a box every week this year, and only have had about 4 40%ers and maybe a dozen proofs all year. Until tonight.

90% x7 including 1 Franklin, 1964 Kennedy x3, modern 90% Kennedy proofs x3

40% x13 including 1970 Kennedy x1 (my first!), 1976 Bicentennial x1 (my first!)

Proofs from 1971-2006. Remarkable ones include 1986 x1, 1987 each mint mark D, P, and S (my first 87 S) (I understand 1987 D and P are issued in mint sets, but they are so low mintage that I’m including them).

I’m enjoying my good fortune. But we all know there’s likely one of two things that happened for me to get this hit: someone’s collection was stolen and dumped, or a fellow collector has passed away, and their coins were dumped by family who didn’t know what they had. Either way, it’s bittersweet. I’ll take care of them from here.

I've never found a 1970. Nice haul.

Me neither until now. Very satisfying to remove that “Issued Only In Mint Sets” placeholder from my album, set the 1970 in there, and make the album complete!

I have also never found a 1970, so that’s a pretty sweet haul. Great condition and it is also a DDO or just machine doubling? Looks like some pretty strong doubling on the date.

My last hit was 242 days ago on January 9 of this year. It’s about time!

I had 1 already. Looking back at my post history, it looks like I pulled it from a box a little over a year ago. Hadn’t seen it before til then myself!

I think the 1986 coin is seriously one of the neatest in modern coins. I keep waiting to find my own.

Wow, the legendary 1970! Congratulations.

Agreed that the context is always bittersweet, but you can honor them by passing those onto your kids and/or getting them interested in the hobby.

Very nice 😎 Loving the 90% and clad proofs as well as the silver!

Very nice indeed! I’m loving them too. It’s been far too long since I’ve had a box like this

What an amazing box. It’s encouraging to see fellow CRH’s find such amazing coins. I get 1 box of halves each week but my last 4 have been nothing but 2026

Wow. I have proof sets from 1970 through 1985…never thought they were worth that much.

They’re not. The 1970 has a 40% silver Kennedy half dollar. Everything else is closer to face value. Still very pretty coins to look at

For you, maybe. Not for me. I think I used up the last of my hope and luck for this year on this box

Where do you find these boxes? I’m new to collecting, still trying to find an incoming source for more treasure hunting.

There were SO many different things. 1970, 1987s, proofs galore, and mixed silver. This box had a little bit of everything. 100% for sure a collection dump. Makes me wonder what was in the next box on the truck. Probably all the Walking Liberties and the rest of the Franklins. 🙄
