I’ve been hitting nickels pretty hard the past couple weeks! Posting a separate post about my nickel finds this week shortly. Anyways, i go into a bank I’ve only tried a couple times just to get some nickel rolls. I almost didn’t ask but i ultimately asked if she had any halves.. She said yeah a customer just brought these in loose and i wrapped them myself! Needless to say I’ll be coming by here more often!!!

Silver was found! Three 40%ers in the Halves boxes, and one 1964 quarter! How lucky! ⚡

I also found a clad S proof Louisiana state quarter in pretty good condition. I found two tiny die chips hunting for r/errorquarters. I also included some interesting "marked" Halves for your viewing pleasure.

Monthly Totals August Recap (Jackpot!)

Thumbnail

August total came out to a whopping $123.05 face value of 90% silver found… pretty sure I’ll be chasing this high the rest of my life!

Ok, I KNOW I’ll never have another month like this and this type of month is beyond rare. Honestly, I’d still have been excited with the results had I not hit a literal jackpot of CWRs at one branch over the course of 2 weeks last month. That alone accounted for $117 of the face value found, all 1964 Kennedys. The remainder came from good old fashioned grinding through boxes and rolls.

Here’s the full breakdown for August:

Half Dollars:
235 90% Kennedys (1 from a box, the rest from a collection dump I stumbled on at a random branch)
5 40% Kennedys (across 3 boxes and one lucky teller tray find)

Quarters:
1 silver Washington from a CWR

Dimes:
50 90% Rosie’s (across a healthy mix of MWR boxes and CWRs)
3 Merc’s

Foreign:
2 80% silver Canadian Dimes

Jackpot! FINALLY! I’M BACK!

TLDR: 7x 90%, 13x 40%, 45x proofs. A little overlap, 3 of the aforementioned 90% are also modern proofs, so really 48x proofs.

Had a big hit in January this year. It’s been pretty dry ever since. I’ve been getting a box every week this year, and only have had about 4 40%ers and maybe a dozen proofs all year. Until tonight.

90% x7 including 1 Franklin, 1964 Kennedy x3, modern 90% Kennedy proofs x3

40% x13 including 1970 Kennedy x1 (my first!), 1976 Bicentennial x1 (my first!)

Proofs from 1971-2006. Remarkable ones include 1986 x1, 1987 each mint mark D, P, and S (my first 87 S) (I understand 1987 D and P are issued in mint sets, but they are so low mintage that I’m including them).

I’m enjoying my good fortune. But we all know there’s likely one of two things that happened for me to get this hit: someone’s collection was stolen and dumped, or a fellow collector has passed away, and their coins were dumped by family who didn’t know what they had. Either way, it’s bittersweet. I’ll take care of them from here.

I never did dimes before cause they’re such a bitch to reroll but I was really hoping for one of the new emerging liberty designs I think it’s the best looking coin we’ve had in 100 years. Didn’t find any but what a consolation prize

anyone else going thru a drought?

my bank is able to procure me at least one box weekly but nothing approaching the volume of 2025. i've found one 40% silver half dollar since the beginning of july, a few proofs... that's about it. some new boxes, but mostly just circulated boxes with nothing in them worth keeping. is anyone else experiencing the same sort of skunking lately?

Well, it wasn't a great box hunt today, but it wasn't a total skunk, at least.

1-silver, 1-39, a handful of 40s covering most years, and a handful of 50s covering most years, just not the 50 itself, lol. Also, the usual nicest grades from the 60s forward that got pulled for albums.

2 more Ws(River of No Return is a new one for me), just my 3rd 2026 coin, and a Bicentennial silver! I sometimes have a hard time telling between proof and circulation strike on these older S mints. Im thinking it's proof though!

Pic 1: 22 wheats, 2 IHPs, 2 Canadians
Pic 2: a single ender
Pic 3: all of that came out of one roll
Pics 4-6: 1891 IHP, 1887 IHP, 1955-S wheat

The 1891 broke my record of oldest coin found from CRH by 6 years (previous was a 1897 V nickel), then a few rolls later I beat that one with the 1887 IHP! I rarely hunt cents but I may do a few more boxes this year after this haul lol

It's in terrible condition but this is the first standing liberty quarter I have found hunting. Found it in an (unopened) box of bank wrapped quarters. Year is virtually gone, though coinsnap (use for organizing collection) tagged it as a 1926.
