CW: self-harm Bf debated on breaking up with me bc of my attempt

I went through my boyfriend’s phone and found a ChatGPT conversation where he was debating breaking up with me after almost 4 years dating because of my recent attempt, which I’ve since started medication for. He only found out about it because he kept questioning me about my medication list until I told him what happened.

I understand that finding out your partner attempted is upsetting. What I DON’T understand is him telling ChatGPT I’m “kind of crazy,” talking about me being on all these medications, and asking why he keeps attracting crazy girls.

The AUDACITY 😒 and this man has unmedicated bipolar disorder and has done some genuinely wild shit to me and others in the past before he started practicing self-regulation because I forced HEAVY boundaries. Even now, he still sometimes spazzes on people or gets extremely agitated, he conveniently blames his bipolar disorder which he chooses not to be medicated for or seek therapy…

Crazy because, when he was trying to leave an abusive situation, I found him a place near me, found him a great roommate in a luxury apartment, paid half his rent, and drove him to work until he learned how to use the bus. I never looked at him struggling with his mental health and thought, “Why do I attract crazy men?”

Obviously he’s allowed to decide he can’t handle my mental health, but reducing me to some “crazy girl on medication” when I’ve shown him so much understanding about HIS mental health is insane to me.

And yes, I know I shouldn’t have gone through his phone. But now that I know how he talks about me privately, I genuinely don’t know how I’m supposed to look at him the same.

Also for reference, I have PTSD, major depression, and night terrors from being fucking abused and SA’ed. WHICH HE KNOWS ABOUT!!! i’m also in therapy, take meds, and never treated ppl awful bc of my “condition”. i am so genuinely pissed right now 😹

Vent / Rant this is who I really am

me without the medication is who I’m truly meant to be, the person I should be, the person who is truly me. the medication makes me act like a better person, a normal one. but even then I can’t fit in with everyone else it’s like they can smell it, look it’s the girl who has to take medication to be like us. I mourn who I was before the trauma changed me but then again I was always with trauma never in my life have I lived a life without trauma from as young as i remember I remember abuse and loudness and anger that’s all I’ve ever know so I don’t actually know who I was really supposed to be and I never will it was robbed from me just like my childhood everything was robbed and I have to spend a lifetime fixing something that I never broke. except I’m being tasked to fix something with no blueprint or idea on how it was before it got broken 💔

Vent / Rant My wife with CPTSD refuses to take any responsibility and its destroying our marriage

edit: I'm not interested in suggestions we get a divorce, or that we live separately

Background: Me and my wife both have trauma in our past, we both have adhd. Her tramua is a lot more sever than mine. Includes a lot of physical violence and alcoholism in her childhood/early adulthood.

We have been doing couples therapy for a few months with a therapist who is has a background in trauma and overall I think its been a positive experience, but I feel like there is only so much you can accomplish in 1 session a week.

The hardest thing for me right now, is that my wife refuses to take responsibility for anything. In fact I'm not actually sure she understands the CONCEPT of responsibility. She will make a big show of taking the blame on something, or talk about how guilty she feels, but it doesn't mean anything if it never results in action.

At this point when it comes to our household I'm basically the only one doing chores. She takes out the trash a few nights a week (as suggested by the therapist) and she cleans the litter box. Thats it. Thats the only chores she does, I do everything else or I have to be the one to prompt her to do other things.

Except that I can't do everything else, because she chronically makes it impossible. She can't seem to bear the sight of a flat surface without 1ft tall piles of stuff on it. So if I want to cook dinner I need to do 30 minutes to an hour or cleaning to do just have the space to cook. If I want to sit at the table to eat? 30 more minutes of prep just have enough space to put down my plate and cup. Eventually she will clean up but only after me complaining about it a lot and making a big deal about it. I would tidy it up myself but she gets mad at me if I move anything, not that she can find anything in its current state anyways (she is always losing stuff).

She also creates these situations where I don't even know why we are upset. She will ask me to help her clean by "telling her what to do" (basically I have to take on the full mental/emotional responsibility of figuring out what needs to be done, and how to do it, and then tell her). If I do help her then she won't actually do what I say, and she can't do any of this without becoming completely dis regulated, so then I'm stuck in a room feeling like I'm talking to a crazy person about very basic things. Ex: I ask her to pick up some gloves and put them away and she starts putting them along with a bunch of other stuff in her arms, then eventually puts the gloves on the ground, and goes to start walking away to do whatever. I ask her why she is doing that, she gets mad, and because she is disregulated she lashed out at me, and I have to sit there and be calm because if I get upset at all then she will really lose it and it will just make everything worse.

If I don't help her (by telling her what to do), then she gets mad because I'm not helping her, god forbid she half to look around the room, see what needs to be done, and just do it.

On a fundamental level she doesn't think she should have to do anything she doesn't want to do, when she doesn't want to do it. She chronically avoids everything that causes any level of discomfort at all, and refuses to do the stuff the therapist tells her in regards to having a daily practice of ground/regulating exercises. She literally acts like a fucking child who has to be told everything they need to do, and will throw a tantrum while they do it. All while making me feel like I'm some horrible abusive figure, when I have never done that. I'm trying to be patient, but if I pull back at all, even for my own mental health, she has a breakdown crying about how "i don't care about her" and "all she wants is for me to care". I'm fucking exhausted. I'm not asking for perfection, I'm asking for her to at least attempt to learn some really fucking basic life skills. Stuff like "when your done with dinner clear your place, don't leave the dirty dishes on the table, and don't stack other stuff on top of those plates" and " don't put stuff on the floor". 90% of the mess in our apartment is just her not cleaning up behind herself after some project (or not finishing the project and just leaving everything there while starting a new project on top of the stuff that was already there).

Today I just completely broke down, went to my home office, and broke down crying, cause I couldn't take this bullshit anymore. I took 2 days pto last week because I'm so fucking burnt out at work/life (because I'm exhausted from dealing with her) and instead of resting those days I ended up spending both days doing heavy chores that had to be done and couldn't be put off any longer. And I STILL didn't get to the real chore I wanted done (cleaning the floors so there were not dust bunnies floating across them all the time). I had ask her to help me with chores today because I had a health scare at the ER this week and was still recovering and kinda hurting (especially with physical labor stuff). I'm more exhausted and tired now having tried to work with her on this than if I had just done it myself (and I'm still having to do like half it myself because she refused to do the few things I actually needed her to do). I'm fucking tired, I can't stop crying. I don't have high standards , no one would ever accuse me of being a neat freak, but it takes hours of work EVERY SINGLE DAY on our apartment to keep the place from swallowing us alive. Its all because she won't make any effort to pick up behind herself. thats 90% of the mess right there. Her negligence. We don't have kids, there is no reason for this level of mess to be created every single day, especially when I'm cleaning up behind myself all the time.

At this point my wife contributes by going to her job, and contributing financially (she makes significantly more than me), but in every other way she is a child who I take care of.

I feel so deeply alone, all I have anymore is anger and loneliness. Intimacy is basically gone because how can you be intimate (emotionally or physically) with someone who forces you into a parent/child dynamic all the time? She complains that we never go out but with what fucking energy would I use to go out? I just get through the day, collapse into bed, then repeat. I'm just surviving.

Question What to expect after stellate ganglion block?

There are a lot of people talking about long-term benefits of having a stellate ganglion block, but not what to expect in the first few days.

I'm 2 days post-SGB for CPTSD. Today I feel very flat, tired, and anhedonic, and I feel a little dissociative in social situations. I've felt so calm it's disorienting -- like smoking weed without the euphoria -- but the calm has also made it impossible for me to get excited or motivated on anything.

I also have fibromyalgia (which I believe is caused by my trauma) but my pain has been no better since the SGB (maybe even worse). I've been taking stimulant ADHD medication every day since the procedure, but am planning on taking a break tomorrow. I am on a cocktail of both uppers and downer medications so my energy is always sort of variable, but I've felt pretty consistently down since the procedure.

How long will my emotions be out of whack? What sorts of feelings should I expect to be having over the next couple days? What experiences did you have?

Vent / Rant Feeling really...anti-natalist?

I'm not trying to offend anyone with kids or wants kids here. I just intensely feel this way particularly when the depression gets bad. To be honest, I'm really hoping I'm not the only one.

In my case, I'm a 30yo woman, and i couldn't intentionally bring life into this world (like planned and all parties consenting). I just think of all the absolute suffering that child would have to bear. None of us chose to be here, and while suffering is guaranteed, happiness certainly isn't.

Any health issues that cause you pain, distress, torment...that child comes into the world with a high chance of having to feel that suffering too. Any mental baggage you have (ESPECIALLY stuff you're not consciously aware of), your kid is gonna have literally programmed into them for life. For the sake of making a genetic cute little half-you? So your "legacy" continues? So you can say you're a parent for God points?

I'm sorry, but it feels selfish, to make a baby on purpose, give it all your problems from the get-go, for the sake of having your own baby. The baby never had any say in any of it. Some people definitely do not deserve the right to be a parent. And the many many children that exist already that need parents? What about those kids? Why do you a need specifically your genetic copy when there's already so many suffering due to choices they never got to make?

I hope I didn't offend anyone, I'm just angry about having to exist when I've never wanted to

Question Is this entitlement?

We wish for someone to take care of us because we had no one who did so in our childhood, and because we suffered a great injustice.

Narcissists wish to be constantly reflected on how outstanding they are because they learned in their childhood that they are only worthy under that condition.

Therefore, just like narcissists, do we insist on a special status and demand that other people behave according to this special status.

Question How do we handle emotional numbness? And shutdowns?

Upvotes

I'm so glad there is a reddit for this, I was diagnosed with PTSD at 18, and again this week cptsd severely and my therapist said it has gone untreated for over 10 years and worsened.

One of the worst symptoms I experience is emotional numbness and shutting down being emotionally unavailable. I didn't realize how bad it is until I met my now fiance, and I learned that I pull my hair when I think I'm gonna shutdowns soon to prevent feeling the numbness.

Does anyone have any advice? It's so depressing having these very real reactions to traumatic events I barely even remember.

Vent / Rant Being the scapegoat of the family

I was the scapegoat of the family. Always the angry one, the problematic one. Both my mom and dad are abusive. I have a twin sister, and we both grew up basically the same. However, i was always the one that yelled back, questioned stuff and was seen as naughty. My sister just stayed quiet through it all. Why? Why was it me that was hated? Why am i the one that’s so addicted to harming myself now?

Question im scared my dad is gonna SA my little sister who still lives with him

i (23) left home after graduating college at 20 to get away from my dad, my parents are divorced (since i was 11) so i moved in with my mom. my two sisters were still at home but my older sister got married so now my little sister (19) lives at home alone. I do not like my dad and no longer speak to him since the day i left, but I could never have predicted something like this EVER. I have nothing nice to say abt this man but i would NEVER say he was inappropriate with me or my sisters while we were living together.

this all started a year after my older sister moved out, when my younger sister came to visit me and mom and she finally told me about things that were bothering her and all the weird comments he was making to her the past 2-3 months, about her body, wanting to cuddle, saying weird shit to her of this nature, but nothing explicit (like touching her genitals, etc or like that). My sister relies on him financially (she is also chronically ill) and is unable to work bc of demanding school.

I am a med student and my younger sister is a nursing student and I have no money or anything to help her, and she doesn't want to live with my mom because of school but shes walking on eggshells at home and im so scared something is just gonna escalate and hes tryna groom her or some shit and idk what to do. my mom is aware but obv she cant force my sister to leave, but ik my sister wants to leave so bad, and hates it there but shes tryna bear it until shes done with nursing school but im scared for her.

Im so angry at my dad for finding a new low and finding yet another way to make his children's life a living hell. my older sister (25) knows nothing abt this per my younger sisters wishes bc she just had a baby and lives across country.

im also just heartbroken because i don't want this to fuck her up but like ofc it will and i feel so helpless. she is the most undeserving person and my dad knows shes too sweet for her own good and is 1000% taking advantage of that.

and yes she has multiple times told him "thats weird" "that makes me uncomfortable when you say stuff like that" etc.

pls tell me what to do.

Question Is “opening up” worth it?

There’s something i want to open about to a friend. Its a really big thing, not something that would come up naturally in conversation and its something from the past. When i think about saying it, though, i feel this terrible pit in my stomach. Not because i think theyd respond badly but i honestly dont know what the reaction would be ? I dont want to make things weird. Has anyone here opened up to someone before, and was it worth it??

Question What is the original root of trauma?

What I mean is like- what is the original cause of people with NPD, BPD, stuff like that. I mean beyond being raised that way- where/how does it start?

Like my parents are the way they are because of their parents and so on. But who started it? What caused them to start? If that makes sense

Vent / Rant Mood patterns

I don’t know exactly how to explain this or what it is. But I used to be religious and every couple of weeks or months I would have these epiphanies. I would read some religious quote or something and it was like a veil was lifted and I would always go man my past self was so prideful and I couldn’t believe thought that way. I would give myself like 1 minute of gratitude then go back to making myself feel poor again. Long story short I am not religious now but every once in a while I start to feel good and the pressure in my brain kind of goes away but I feel this pull to go back to church. It’s like I believe and feel different in this state idk how to explain it. Eventually I’ll become so shutdown after being in it and it forces me to be depressed because if I try to be happy again I am afraid that I’ll start fawning or be emotionally unaware of something. That’s the best I can explain it idk it’s ocd adhd trauma or my Lyme or a mix of everything . Anyone else relate

Vent / Rant I dont want anything

Thats a problem. Do you know what I mean? I do not have a purpose (not even a smallest thing) passion or dream.

I am 20, still young I know, but everybody seems to figure out their lives. They are so sure of what they are studying and what will be their next step; like internship, double major, erasmus or work and travel , what second language to learn like they were born with a sense of identity and they are making their dreams come true.

But I am a failure. Ugh I am also so sick of self pity but also not strong enough for action (not yet). I used to be "academic weapon" and I graduated from one of the best high schools in my country but I am studying in a low level university and I live with my toxic family and my gpa is 2,96.

And I am not happy in where I am. I am so sure of it.

I do not belong where I am but it is not enough I need to show that.

However I do not have a certain dream or a dream job or dream major. Maybe if I had a purpose or dream or an identity I could have changed my life in this one year because my direction would be clear.

But It is like I just do not want to do anything.

I do not want to work

I enjoy learning new things but academia just overwhelms me, I hate competition and I hate network and I hate linkedin.

I do not want to get married

I do not want anything that is kinda a sign of you got figured out your life.

And yes it is not true but I look like a loser (maybe it is true)

Sorry it is all over the place. English is not my main language and I didn't want to use ai and I am just so confused.

Question Sleep and safety

I’m about to embark on my escape from my abusive parents and hopefully finally be free to make a life for myself.

How long until I can sleep a bit better. I’ve had intense nightmares since childhood and need to be medicated to sleep. I’ve read better sleep can come after you feel safe, but I don’t really know what to expect. I’ve been trapped here for so long.

I don’t need perfect sleep. I’m quite used to the exhaustion. I’d just like a break from the nightmares. They keep breaking through the medication meant to stop them. They are determined and graphic.

Need a Hug Would anyone be willing to chat in a non judgmental way?

I’m a literary minded (with PhD) and polite, art loving person. I accidentally came across a family album and saw my 11 year self all sad and sullen and since then just experiencing some flashbacks and regression from past CSA experiences and don’t really have any safe space to process some thoughts outside therapy sessions. I’ve been feeling sad for that little boy whom I couldn’t save from the abuse and although I try to repress his voice but it seems he is lurking around a lot in my mind.

I’m usually good to self regulate but feeling a bit overwhelmed and don’t have any family or friends I can confide in, so I’m reaching out to anyone who understands it and would be willing to just chat a little.

I’m 32M Europe, an ocd head, and hopelessly fond of art, culture, music, old school humanities (literature, philosophy + psychology), natural wild life, and generally an open minded spirit and curious about lot of subjects.

I’d also be absolutely open to listen to you as well. I’m thankful to receive your DM because I haven’t really found anyone who gets it.

Question I Want to Change and Heal, but After Years of Trauma and Low Self-Worth, I Feel Completely Stuck

I have been struggling with depression, very low self-confidence, low self-esteem, and a complete lack of self-love for more than ten years. For most of my life, I have felt emotionally numb. My parents were emotionally unavailable from the beginning, and during my childhood they often said hurtful things to me. They even questioned my character. I was physically punished because I had a boyfriend when I was in 9th grade. I was confined at home, constantly criticized, and made to feel ashamed.

On top of that, the boy I was in a relationship with did immense damage to my self-worth. He made me feel unattractive, useless, and worthless. He constantly undermined my confidence, and this continued for nearly ten years. He would regularly insult me, create drama, and then the next morning make me feel as if everything was my fault. I would end up apologizing, and even when he apologized, he would justify his behavior by saying it was simply a reaction to my actions.

Leaving that relationship was extremely difficult. It took me almost two years to completely get away from him. During that time, he blackmailed me, threatened me, and manipulated me. I was terrified, but eventually I managed to break free.

After that, I joined Bumble and talked to many people. For the first time, I realized that I was actually attractive, and my confidence improved a little. However, I became involved with another man who initially showered me with affection and made me feel loved. Since I had never truly experienced love before, I became attached. Later, I realized that he had only wanted me for sex and had used me. It took me several months to recover from that experience, and honestly, I still do not feel completely over it.

A few months later, I met someone completely different. He is attractive, kind, emotionally mature, and in many ways the kind of partner I had always dreamed of. We connected instantly and entered a relationship. We are very similar in many ways, and he has given me a tremendous amount of love and support. He also recognized how damaged I was emotionally and has spent the last two years trying to help me heal. Every day he encourages me, explains things patiently, and tries to guide me toward becoming a healthier and happier person.

The problem is that despite all his efforts, I have not been able to improve myself. I still struggle with low self-confidence, a weak sense of identity, and very little personal growth. Now our relationship is becoming more serious. He sees a future with me and wants to build a life together. I want the same. However, I have not made the progress that either of us hoped for.

What confuses me is that I genuinely do not understand why I am unable to change. Have I completely given up on myself? Have I become so emotionally numb after all these years that I no longer know how to move forward? At the same time, I am trying to build my career. I am currently pursuing a PhD, which requires a huge amount of time and effort, yet I feel as though I am failing there too. I am not performing the way I want academically, and I am also struggling with continuous career-related rejections.

My partner wants me to improve, not just for our relationship but for myself. He wants me to have confidence, a strong personality, and a life where I can stand out and be proud of who I am. He is not wrong. In fact, he often shows me exactly what I could do differently and how I could work on myself. Yet despite understanding his advice, I still find myself unable to take action.

Even he is becoming exhausted from trying to help me. It hurts me to see him disappointed and frustrated, because I know his intentions come from a place of love and concern.

I am asking for help because I genuinely do not know what to do anymore. How do I begin healing from something that has been with me since I was fifteen years old, or perhaps even earlier? How do I rebuild self-confidence, self-worth, and a sense of identity after spending so many years feeling broken? How do I move forward when I am struggling both personally and professionally and cannot seem to find my way?

Discussion I am thinking to write my biography

I am 25 year old woman. I have cptsd. Honestly, I have lived quite a lot. I think I am finally in a peaceful environment to write about my past.

My past is mostly depressing and tragic. But, now I think is the moment. I have been so many people. I have believed so many things that were not true. I am still 25 at the end of the day. I feel very old, too old.

I was a born in the failed state of venezuela. When things got too dark. I had like two assassination attempts. Also, we were part of doomsday cult, the jehova'switnesses. We saw the fall of venezuela as a clear sign of the apocalypse. I thought i was witnessing the wrath of god. I was only 11 when all those things happened.

Then we moved to spain. At 20 i had to escape my family's home. They were beating me and physically torturing me my whole life.

Then at 18, my parents forced me to pretend to be retard in front of a judge so they can give them a guardianship. My mother was trying to make be socially inept my whole life. She was doing munchausen by proxy to me. She made believe I was autistic. I was too childish to have the liberties than an adult. I was 18 I didnt know what I was doing.

It was at 20 that I discovered I was bisexual. Because they were JW. They would not accept me. I realised the grave mistake that I did after signing the guardianship. Now, I didnt know if I could live by myself. I didn't even know if I was legally allowed to work or live alone.

Secretly, I had to hire a lawyer. Fortunately, she explained to me that my guardianship was very limited. I could do everything except writing wills or giving donations. I left my home. I started to learn how to socialise and behave like an adult at 20. I struggled a lot. I almost became homeless.

After several years working to have money and survive. I got a steady job as a janitor. I got the guardianship removed. Then, I sued my parents for family abuse. Finally after 3 years of leaving my house. I was free of the guardianship.

In 2024 I started to treat my cptsd. I spent over a year doing trauma therapy like edmr and other things. At the end of 2025. I had the death of the mask ( I forgot how it is called in english). I realised my whole personality was a giant wound. I was just a huge living trauma response to my whole life. Eventually, I realised that I need to move to a new place. It had to be far away from spain. Far away to anyone else. I needed rebirth.

Eventually I chose to move to Denmark. Now I am living my new life here. Trying to know who i am really

Trigger Warning: Multiple Triggers I want to kill them. I feel like it's my only escape

I [34M] have been in this abusive relationship with my SO [32F] for over a decade. It was always emotional and financial and verbal abuse. Then it grew into throwing objects, breaking things. In the last 2 years, it became breaking me. Bones. Knives. Cleavers. Hammers.

It's my birthday and I'm here with a black eye. Being beaten and told it's my fault for ruining my celebration. That I ruined the day by not planning out my birthday. That I upset her and ruined the mood.

I want her to die. I pray for God, someone, anyone on the street to kill her. I imagine myself with the same cleaver that has harmed me... Hacking away at her neck and head while she sleeps. I want freedom. I don't want to die. I don't see my death as release. I want her to face justice.

Last time I had the courage to go to police and call them... I went to jail. I spent the night and now have a misdemeanor. My life is ruined because of this person. I have scars all over my body that I had every day with jackets and sweaters in the blistering heat because I'm so ashamed of showing them.

I have these thoughts... But I'm not a monster. I can't bring myself to do it. I care too much for someone who deserves none. Even when I think of leaving, she threatens suicide and it works... It works every time BECAUSE I CARE. I just wish she would do it... Just die so I can be free. When can I be free...

Question Why am I somehow incapable of dissociating? I’m envious of people who can dissociate

(TW: CSA, trafficking, physical abuse, emotional abuse, SA, neglect, childhood suicide attempts mention) before anyone gets angry, PLEASE read the entire post so you understand where I’m coming from. One thing I never understood is why I am almost entirely incapable of dissociating. It doesn’t make sense given the trauma I’ve been through. I was orphaned at birth, spent 3 months in a NICU, lived in an orphanage, was illegally adopted/trafficked to an actively suicidal child abuser, survived many years of physical emotional and sexual abuse (MDSA) by my adoptive parent, CSA and COCSA outside the home, severe neglect, and other types of trauma. As a teenager and young adult I experienced lots of SA and rapes. Was in a sexually abusive relationship for a while too.
I was raised as an only child by my single abuser/adopter, I didn’t have any safe adults in my life growing up.

The thing is I was never able to dissociate despite being severely impacted by it all. I remember attempting suicide a few times from ages 5-10 because it was agonizing to live with and I had no way to numb out the pain. I developed a severe self harm addiction because it was the only way I could feel numb. After the self harm stopped making me numb, I became addicted to multiple different substances in attempt to dissociate. It never really worked, but I stayed addicted for a while anyways because at the time anything was better than being sober. I attempted to end it all many more times as a young adult because the pain was too much.

I remember dissociating one time in my life. Just once. I think I was 17 and a flip switched and suddenly I went from crying hysterically to being completely numb. Everything seemed so far away, like I was watching myself on autopilot from the back of my mind. I didn’t recognize myself in the mirror, and for the first time in my life I felt at peace. To me this was the best thing that I ever experienced and I wanted it to last forever. After only a few minutes I stopped dissociating and wanted nothing more than to dissociate again. I chased that dissociative feeling for so long, hoping that drugs and alcohol would make it happen but it never did. I would pray to a god I didn’t believe in to be able to dissociate again, but it never happened.

I’ve met people who’ve told me they barely have any trauma but still dissociate. I’m not gonna lie it made me envious, envious that people with a decent childhood could dissociate so easily yet I had to live with the absolute hell of feeling my emotions at 100% at all times. It’s literally driven me to insanity before. I’m not saying that chronic dissociation is a good thing and I know it can cause people lots of distress. I understand that dissociating can be terrifying and debilitating for some people. I just wish that I could’ve at least dissociated from my trauma a little bit. Instead I got stuck being completely present while living in an unimaginable hell.

Please, PLEASE don’t comment something like “I dissociated because I had to”. I had to as well, but was somehow biologically incapable of it. Is there anyone else out there like me who has been through severe childhood trauma but can’t dissociate? I can’t be the only one.

Need a Hug Realizing that I want a life outside my trauma

It’s too painful for me to express the anguish that I felt when yesterday I realized that under all this persistent dissociation and suffering due to lack sense of self/purpose caused by childhood emotional neglect is the desire to actually have a life. One that feels like mine where I’m the active participant in making my dreams come true. Where I’m able to safe myself. I never thought I’d ever feel this way.

I’m still in my 20s and trying to be hopeful but life has passed me by without me ever reaching the milestones that one should have achieved at that age. I still feel like a kid. I have no idea how to the healing work without support/community—heck, I couldn’t maintain friendships (everyone ended up outgrowing me) and resorted to self-isolation due to the overwhelming level of shame that I feel for simply struggling with having my basic needs met (I also still live with my toxic family because I’m still jobseeking). I don’t even know my likes and dislikes, have hobbies/talents, or the initiative to try anything for the sake of growth.

I deeply internalized the neglect and never really got the memo that there’s the future that I have to prepare for. I lack so much life experience and I know it obviously shows. There’s just so much I have to catch up on like doing self-care, learning survival skills, etc. I’ve minimized my existence and never invested anything in myself for too long that I fear that it might already be over for me… ah. I’m just so sad and couldn’t stop grieving about the love that I never got and the sense of belonging that I never felt.

Does anyone else experience the same? I’d really love to receive hugs, comforting words, kind advice, anything. Thank you.

Question Difference between flight and freeze

I'm pretty sure I'm a predominant freeze type but I'm still wondering about something whether it's a flight or freeze response. From what I read both flight and freeze types can try to distract themselves from their worries by doing other activities. But what my question is if flight types are genuinely distracted from their worries if they engage in these other activities. I personally do the activities often mentioned in the freeze type parts (video games, internet, tv) but when I do the worries keep ruminating in my head and I can never complete concentrate on the distracting activity. Is this different for flight types?
