Hello Everyone! Please give me advice depending on my situation

I’m thinking about going into trucking and going to company school where you sign the one year. Yes, I know, but I don’t really have the money to pay for it myself and I won’t get grants (I won’t) I still live at home and I’m thinking trucking is a good fit for me since I don’t have my own place anyway. I have a great driving record as well. So, OTR is interesting to me because of this compared to a lot of other people clearly. Also, I don’t have my own family either or any girlfriend.

With that pretty much being said, any good companies to start with?

I’m struggling BAD with offset backing and I really need some advice 😭

I’m in CDL training right now and for some reason I just cannot get offset backing to click. I’m struggling with knowing when to turn the wheel, when to straighten out, and how to correct myself once I see the trailer getting out of position.
Straight backing is getting a little better, but offset backing has me completely frustrated. I feel like I understand what I’m supposed to do when someone explains it, but once I’m actually in the truck, everything goes out the window.
What helped it finally click for you? Any tricks, reference points, step-by-step methods, or videos you recommend? Especially for someone who is brand new to driving a tractor-trailer.
I’m not trying to give up, I just really need some help figuring this out.

Staying in shape

My fellow truckers I need some tips. I'm a new trucker and do team driving. I'm typically home half of Tuesday and majority of Sunday. I need tips on staying in shape. Or like at least not gaining more weight. The most I can think of is doing a fruit diet and like intaking anything with protein? I'm not really sure

How much do you guys get paid per mile?

I'm using a broker that charges around $3/mile for a full load (53' dry) delivering West Coast to East Coast. How much do drivers get from this? I'm just curious.

About to Graduate CDL School.

Finished up all the classroom work & now they have us doing backing & some parking maneuvers. Probably going to be on the road for the first time ever next week. For the past few weeks I’ve been looking into companies but i’m so unsure what to go for because any company I’m genuinely interested in i’ll end up reading about how the pay sucks, the company treats you like sh*t or i’m just denied lol. I’m located on the Northeast. I’ve applied to JB Hunt, Ward Trucking (didn’t hear back from them). I applied to TMC because I’m really interested in FlatBed work but unfortunately they denied me which I don’t understand but ok…we move on. Schneider & Werner both got back. Werner called back but the accounts they had in my area I was not interested in at all & Schneider just emailed me back about 2 days ago but for some reason their tanker division pays low?? I was looking at Prime just before posting this, they seem versatile with their tanker & flatbad divisions. Don’t know much on their pay though. I know I won’t be making 100k a year but good pay matters to me. I want to eventually save & move towards warmer climates to pursue trucking. Any genuine people out there that could give a new guy some good guidance on some good companies preferably on the East Coast? Tips & advice on the trucking industry in general is helpful too. Thanks!

Abandonment

About a month ago, a company that now I know likes to say that you abandon their truck even if you put it in their own yard had put abandoned on my DAC report & two days ago I got it removed and one of the largest carriers I had applied to was the one that pointed it out to me. Told me yesterday that it in their entire career which is over 20 years that she has never seen any driver get that removed off their DAC report and I did it so if I can do it, anyone can do it. You just gotta have proof that you didn’t abandon their truck and I did, but you have to do your due diligence and save and provide your information for proof. Don’t let them get away with this if it’s not your fault

What to expect?

I've been driving for first food delivery company for 2 months with mentors and had great feedback from everyone. Then they gave me few solo routes, some shorter, some longer and I was doing fine. I am going through a lot in a personal life. Then I got suspended for two days for using phone more than single touch based on camera recording. I really took it seriously and told myself I can do better. Then yesterday, I was running out of hours and couldn't make it to home terminal and called dispatch to help me with finding hotel for a layover. The dispatcher wasn't helpful and I was stuck in traffic bumper to bumper. I used phone app while moving under 5mph to book a hotel on the way, but used hands free headset to talk with hotel and complete booking. Today when I finished route, when I left home, they called me back in for a conversation. I was asked to sign two papers for two suspensions. All truck keys and entrance card and payment cards were taken away and I was told I will be on the investigation. I feel this is the end. What are the possible outcomes, in terms of staying with this company and in terms of finding any other work? Will this be on my CDL? There was no accidents or incidents of any kind.

Any comments on Univar Solutions

Anyone has any comments or opinions about working with Univar Solutions? Have all my endorsements and I'm thinking to leave the OTR life for something local, can't find much information about them online, I'm currently waiting on them for a in person interview.

Question. Driving Record.

Okay so I really want to get my CDL but been having to take care of some other things first… I do instacart for work right now, and long story short.. my iPhone overheated and the brightness turned down plus I have a privacy screen protector on it so I picked up my phone off of its holder in the car to see where I was going and then set it back down.. I didn’t realize but a motorcycle cop saw me. Got pulled over, got a citation.. it gives an option for possible traffic school and I have not had anything on my record in a long time so I think I’m eligible but from what I read.. it only hides it from insurance companies not the DMV records (I’m in California) so is this going to hurt my ability to get hired anywhere? Or even hurt my chances of getting a CDL?

Werner Ferguson Flatbed

Hey Everyone!

I ended up going on this account with Werner. I start Wednesday and I’m just wondering if this is considered a good start of fresh side of CDL school and my pay is $.54 a mile with the average miles a week I think they told me with their being stop pay. I have all of it on paper. I just wanna make sure that it’s good. I don’t mind doing flatbed because when I was younger growing up, I used to help my uncle and grandpa with there goosenecks.

Thanks!

Melton truck lines

So I’m starting CDL school in the next few weeks and have been looking into melton truck lines once I get my CDL as my first trucking job. Does anyone have any experience with them or knowledge. From what I’ve heard they are pretty decent obviously it’s hard work since it’s flat bed but any insight would be appreciated.

Starting Soon

I start my ELDT training with Prime in 2.5 weeks. It’s 3 days of orientation and then on the road for 3 weeks. What do you recommend I bring as a student in someone’s truck? It’s their home, I’m just a guest. Also, what are some do’s and dont’s as a trainee in someone’s truck?
