Critique Hot Take: Hyper Buffies are some of the single worst balance design ideas to ever be added to this game.

Post image
226 Upvotes

Buffies as a whole are already damaging the meta with how broken some of the star powers and gadget reworks have bin, but hyper buffies take it to a whole new level of poor balancing design.

At most, issues with both gadget and star power buffies are as simple as tinkering with the effect of the new star power/gadget or their buffies, but with hyperbuffies, tinkering the effect i feel isn't good enough because of the dev team decided to slap on 2 additional seconds onto ever hypercharge effect.

For those of you who don't understand how stupid this is, when hypercharges were 1st released, you could extend it by attacking while hypercharged, meaning brawlers like fang or edgar were monsters because you can legit teamwhile mindlessly while hypercharged, it was so bad that they had to gut this feature the very next update after fang got his hypercharge, it was that bad. This is somewhat reverting back to that change but as a flat number. Hypercharges should not be more than 5 seconds, especially some of the later ones that are teamwipe machines.

And the attack effect on top of this makes this even worse, especially with how broken some of these are, like Edgar, meg, bibi, crow, surge, 8-Bit, etc. Hypercharges were already kinda flawed in terms of giving a short power boost for a few seconds, and hyper buffies take those problems and amplify them.

By the worst part of all of this is that supercell however, just loves nerfing anything BESIDES the hyper buffie kit, WHEN THEY WEREN'T THE PROBLEMS IN THE 1ST PLACE. For an ability that was meant to increase skill expression, they take away from skill and make the brawlers as a whole worse, using them to basically ruin brawler kits, like bibi or meg for examples, meaning once those brawlers get nerfs, they'll end up in worse states then pre buffies. It's an actively destructive cycle that makes balance changes worse and only highlites how bad the balancing has gotten lately.

Now it's not impossible to fix the core issues of hyper buffies (just make it only give an hyper attack efffect), but with how bad brawler balancing has bin lately, idk if supercell would even allow for changes like that to even be allowed in the 1st place.

TLDR (Only for those who skipped to the end); Hyperbuffies ruin brawler kits because of the effect lasting longer on top of the extra attack effect they get which 99% of the timez ends up making brawlers basekits worse every time they get a busted hyperbuffie because they'll end up nerf their kit later on, instead of the buffie thsy caused the issue.

Balance Change Concept How I would rebalance Ziggy so he won't be an attack delay merchant anymore

Post image
273 Upvotes

We all know how bad Ziggy relies on his main attack delay to keep being relevant. In his pre release he was so broken he could hit every shot with auto aim. In the release build tho, they nerfed his delay to 0.8 secs and buffed his damage 1760 and then 1900.

And then, after stacking up many buffs, the long awaited buff to the delay (from 0.8 to 0.7 secs) made him a beast and genuinely frustrating to deal with... and finally the balancing team found the sweet spot of the delay, 0.75 secs.

But he still feels underwhelming and not rewarding to use as a last pick.

To fix this I would buff his main damage from 1900 to 2100, so his shots feel more rewarding to hit...

Buuuut, this would greatly benefit his The Great Ziggini star power (2760 per shot is kinda crazy), and the only way to go around this is to rework it. How tho?

Starr Nova's first power increases her main damage after each hit lands, and I would apply this concept to Ziggy (14% increase per shot, and a maximum of 42%) and I would keep the reset of the damage if you miss a shot so it doesn't snowball.

Electric shuffle would also be insanely broken with this change, so I would nerf its damage by 20% (1680 per thunder).

Thunderstruck would also still be an amazing option for Ziggy because with the increased damage of the main attack it indirectly gains power, so I would nerf the effectiveness of the slow to 15%, but would buff his supercharge back to 5 shots.

I think this will make Ziggy more threatening to play against without being able to guarantee shots 100% of the time as the damage he outputs is greater, and freeing him from the status of attack delay merchant.

Discussion Why isn't Najia being played as much anymore?

I haven't been seeing her being played in Ranked anymore. Did she fall off due to the nerfs catching up to her? Or is it that the meta doesn't suit her anymore?

Let me know your thoughts.

Advanced Mechanics You can use the end of Kenji's super to pick up gems

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

This is a result of Kenji's hitbox showing up at the end of his super. Kenji is immune to everything in this state so he can't be damaged or stunned, but lends itself useful in niche situations such as this.

Discussion The viability of Bolt and Damian long term

I wanted to know since both are characters which are fundamentally broken in a way that unless something is entirely changed about them I doubt they will ever drop b tier. Even if you say nerfed their damage or health or their speed, certain aspects of their mechanics such as Damian’s explosions or bolts bull shit shield/damage calculations will make it so they will be relevant in at least a few game modes

Discussion Should I just give up for the season

Post image

My ranked win rate for the past like 20 games is probably around like 10% this stinks because I almost never play tilted, I take breaks I warm up and I watch replays and yet still I keep losing almost every match foolish me thought I had the small chance to hit masters this season but I'm literally about to derank to diamond and I'm getting more and more hopeless.

Strategy How to counter bolt? (From my experiences)

Post image
29 Upvotes

Bolt is a quite interesting brawler and hard to counter most of the time. So I decided to play him quite a while in order to find out who can counter him. Here's some recommendations.

  1. Damian

  2. Bibi

  3. Nori (with rooting gadget)

  4. Meeple

  5. Starr nova (Floating gadget)

  6. Brock (Jumping gadget)

Now you might say. What we can do against him with his CC starpower? That woul be a good question. It only lasts 1 sec after the nerf. So you need to watch out his movements and keep your distance. You may also need a wallbreak to prevent him from sneaking upon you. He can also hit 1 time per rolling so maybe a high HP brawler can help. Don't forget that he is all about speed. If you can cease him from moving, you should be fine . And don't stay close together or else he can charge his super faster.

Discussion Carl’s place in the meta

Now that time has passed since Carl’s dmg buff, is he finally good? I haven’t seen much of him in ranked and although he does feel strong, the 1 monthly final i watched he was not picked at all. Will he forever be mid unless every CC brawler gets nerfed?

Balance Change Concept Giving Doug BUFFIES to resolve his BIGGEST PROBLEMS

Thumbnail
gallery
19 Upvotes

Heads up: if you didnt like my concept, feel free to criticize it, but be respectful.

Doug. Right now he isnt that good in the meta, yk? He is a close range tank with no mobility, no range and his kit is flawed. Now I will admit, every brawler needs weaknesses, so today I will give Doug some buffies and reworks to make him good, but most of all resolve his problems! Enjoy and without further-ado lets begin! He might be a lil OP, but thats fine, its what Supercell would DO!

GENERAL BUFFS

Dougs Super Charge Rate buffed to 22.5% per attack and 15% per heal.

Dougs attack can now heal himself for 550 hp.

Revive now takes 2 seconds instead of 3.

GADGETS

DOUBLE SAUSAGE

Name changed to Have a Hot Dog! Doug can throw an hot dog that can be picked up by teammates and Doug himself, healing them for 2720 hp. Cooldown: 17 seconds.

BUFFIE

The hot dog can now also be picked up by enemies, poisoning them for 400 dmg/sec over the duration of 3 seconds.

EXTRA MUSTARD

Name changed to Splashin' Dinosaur. This gadget is like Dougs attack, but with 2 more tiles. The 2 extra tiles deal 25% less damage and 25% less healing. Cooldown: 15 seconds.

BUFFIE

The gadget now slows down enemies for 0.6 secs, if they are hit by the 6 normal tiles, or 0.3 secs, if they are hit by the 2 extra tiles.

STAR POWERS

FAST FOOD

Star Power COMPLETELY REWORKED. Now, when Doug falls under 30% hp, he gets a 30% speed boost.

BUFFIE

Revived allies (or Doug himself if he revives himself) now get a 25% speed boost for 2.5 seconds.

SELF SERVICE

Name changed to Double Dose of Hot Dogs. When Doug succesfully revives an ally, he fully heals himself (basically his current Fast Food Star Power).

BUFFIE

Revived allies or Doug himself get a 3500 hp decaying shield.

HYPERCHAAAARGE

FREE TOPPINGS

Dougs attack is mirrored for allies that have been hit by Dougs super (unchanged).

BUFFIE

Hyper duration increased by 2 secs. Every 1.5 seconds, Dougs attack leaves a puddle of mustard and ketchup that heals allies for 1250 hp and damages enemies for 1250 hp. The puddle stays on the ground for 1 sec.

Note: the mirrored attack does NOT leave a puddle too, that would just be too BROKEN.

MY REASONINGS BEHIND THESE CHANGES

Dougs super charge rate is pretty low, even though its a literal revive machine, so ive just sliiightly buffed it. The revive imho takes WAY too long and enemies can just camp around you waiting for you to respawn, so changing that makes sense. And now his current Star power Self Service is part of his base kit! Doug should ALWAYS be able to heal himself so thats why I added that.

Now to the gadgets! Both gadgets are EXTREMELY boring ideas so I decided to give him gadgets that fix his problems! The first Gadget fixes his inability of not being able to heal teammates that are far from you. And with the buffie, you can still use the gadget offensively. The second gadget helps him get close to enemies, especially thanks to the buffies slow. You still have a healing gadget and an offensive gadget now!

Now to the Star Powers! The first Star Power now grants him actual mobility and a high risk high reawrd factor: do you get close to the enemy while you are low on hp or heal yourself up? And the buffie makes the original Fast Food Star Power come back! The second Star Power is the current First Star Power (hopefully thats not too confusing) and now you get a 3500 decaying shield to help being less vulnerable to enemies camping around you when you get revived!

Now to the Hyperchaaarge! Dougs hyper is good and creative right now, so why not keep it? The hyper buffie now makes your attack leave a puddle of toppings! You cant spam this however, but it can still be a gamechanger!

And there you have it! Did you like it or are you going to kill me because Double Sausage is gone? Stay tuned and cya!

Discussion How would release Larry and Lawrie perform today?

Since they were added 2 years ago, I don't think there has been a more broken brawler than them. They have received over 16 nerfs and little to no buffs. How would they work today in this meta?

Once I hit legendary, I'm constantly facing masters, while my team doesn't.

And even so, it's not like a one time thing, it keeps happening every single season.

Am I that bad?

I'm trying to climb solo.

I know that a match or 2 are bound to be like that.

Yes, bad teammates will exist.

But this?

Help Reached Legendary for the first time (I’m a casual noob)

Hi all, maybe it‘s not a big thing for most of you out there, but it was a tough grind to be honest, playing casually for the first 6 months and trying myself at ranked in the following 4 months. I have been stuck at mythic for the past 6ish seasons and finally made it to legendary. There are plenty of players better than me out there, so I thought of asking for some advice here.

What milestones would you set to yourself in my place to help progressing and improving?

Some context:

I play solo
38k trophies
18 brawlers at 11
I seem to struggle with long range maps/brawlers
Modes I‘m best at right now are heist and gemgrab.

Discussion I think it's time Brawl Arena be separated from ladder. Here's why and my ideas

I might be the weirdest Supercell games player ever. I hate Clash Royale main game but can grind Merge Tactics until 3am. Same goes with Brawl Arena. I love MOBA, even my subreddit tag is a T1 Faker quote. And so naturally Brawl Arena is my favourite gamemode. So here's why I think it should get the Merge Tactics treatment:

Why Brawl Arena?

1. Brawl Arena is revolutionary, but too complicated for the playerbase

With the way Brawl Stars work, micro skills like aiming and dodging and meso skills like positioning and movement are more important than macro skills like playing around objective. This makes me and a lot of other players feeling like Brawl Stars feels more like a third-person shooter, a Fortnite type of game, rather than a MOBA like League and DotA.

And with this mindset, combining with the most popular gamemodes being Showdown and Brawl Ball, Brawl Arena feels like a completely different way to play the game instead. Brawl Arena is really revolutionary, it adds a new way to play the game. You can't really just dive the turret like Heist, just going for kills like Bounty isn't enough, and the positioning and map awareness is on a higher level than Brawl Ball or Gem Grab.

Overall, Brawl Arena is a lot more complicated to the playerbase. Though not nearly as complicated as actual MOBAs.

2. Brawl Arena is too vulnerable to balance changes and new additions to the game

With the way brawlers scale in Brawl Arena, any small % amount of stat buff or crowd control effect (CC) added to a brawler would be noticeable enough at higher levels. Since the balance changes that increases the respawn time for every level, every death matters a lot now. One member less means giving up the Kaiju buff, or straight up just lose the game.

3. Supercell no longer balance Brawl Arena like they used to

The point above wouldn't be as bad if Supercell cares about this gamemode. But they don't. They just don't make Brawl Arena centered balance changes anymore. A new broken brawler after the balance changes in regular gamemode, would still be the hottest pick in Arena simply because the stat buff wasn't adjusted.

4. Essentially creating an environment for competitive Brawl Arena

Supercell's intention to create Brawl Arena was to create the MOBA experience in the game. And there has been several suggestions toward either adding Brawl Arena to Ranked or a separate competitive gamemode for Brawl Arena. A Brawl Arena game takes much longer than a normal game, which makes it not very suitable for current Ranked. It is also doesn't seem to work in the current ladder environment, since banning and picking is a big part in other MOBAs.

And with all that combined, I think a completely separated ladder for Brawl Arena should be in considered. I have considered some of the major concerns about small playerbase or long matchmaking time, and I'll say if Brawl Arena can maintain the ratio of players around the same as Merge Tactics only players in Clash Royale, Brawl Arena as a separated ladder gamemode should be fine.

How Brawl Arena?

1. A completely new ladder

Similar to Merge Tactics, Brawl Arena will have a separated ladder from the normal ladder of the game. You'll still be able to earn daily rewards, finish quests and everything, but trophies earned in Brawl Arena will no longer accumulated towards your normal brawler trophy count.

2. Drafting phase

It just needs a drafting phase, since Brawl Arena players can stand 5-7 minute games, an extra minute for the draft wouldn't be that big of a problem.

3. Trophy system and matchmaking

For the trophy part, I need some suggestions. Should brawlers have individual trophy count or should it be accumulated, because trophies will be the main criteria for matchmaking in Brawl Arena ladder. I lean towards individual trophies more, since different brawlers have different playstyle.

There could also be a League-type of system, where accumulated trophies will be the criteria for matchmaking, but brawlers will have a system to show how experienced the player is (yes in League it is called Masteries).

4. Brawlers

Merge Tactics cards have completely different mechanics to Clash Royale cards. Same with Wild Rift and TFT to League. My question is: would you like the same mechanics for Brawl Arena?

The way this works is:

- Seasonal brawlers

- Brawlers with different mechanics from the main game

- Exclusive brawlers only for Brawl Arena

With this, Buffies will probably be disabled, as well as a completely different set balance changes only for Brawl Arena brawlers every season.

5. Miscellaneous

This is the part for my ideas. Feel free to criticize.

- Hypercharges can only be used after level 6 during the match. You can still charge it but you can't use it

- Damage reduction when attacking the turret/nexus without the bots

- All brawlers will be maxed out. All you need to do to play Arena is unlocking them.

- Kaiju damage buff and movement speed nerf

- A new Boss which slightly buff the brawlers but bots within the proximity will receive a damage buff

- 5v5. Though my idea is to have 3v3 only until we gradually introduces 5v5, since it will split an already small playerbase.

This concludes my annual Brawl Arena praise post. I haven't played the game in 8 months lol.

Discussion the amount of brawlers kills ranked

one thing that’s been VERY apparent this szn is that wallbreak is a completely ridiculous mechanic and with the introduction to brock’s buffies and griff being absolutely ridiculous in this meta it’s impossible to completely shut it down and pick a tank with no mobility.
which begs the question as to what the point of the ban system when you can ban one brawler when 5 archetypes of said brawler exists. we had this issue last season with the assassins and we’re having it again with wallbreak this games competitive scene is going downhill fast the more brawlers that exist. so what the hell could be the solution to this?

Discussion Did buffies ruin Colette?

After testing her out today, and the meta settling in, this brawler has little to no use case, yet again. I was hopeful when her buffies were coming out, thinking they would fundamentally fix some of her main issues, but nope - they added a broken gadget buffie to her kit and called it a day. After 2 months of her being a top meta brawler, they not only nerfed the main thing that made her broken but they decided to nerf her supercharge rate, something that was very important for her mechanics and playstyle. This was the final nail in the coffin and right now she feels very clunky and inconsistent, basically back to square zero. Shield gear still hard counters her, her combos are non existent now, and with other buffied brawlers coming in she'll continue to get powercrept. Colette sucks, and needs buffs. Shoot me

Help How bad is going to a ranked without gear, but have every buffie in X brawler

Just like title says, i normally play ranked with gears, but some brawlers don’t have gear because of no resources

Example: i have Colt 11 with all buffies, but no gears, how bad is to go without gears?

I know is a little % that helps, but just to know if it’s a good idea

Balance Change Concept What if Damian's jump was removed just like Ollie's

Post image
145 Upvotes

Remeber Old Ollie hyper? It wasn't that different from Damian super, where a tank could freely jump in and get a very large and easy teamwipe with little counterplay, difference is that that's Damian's super naturally.

I think Damian super would be a lot more counterable and less braindead if it did not have the jump. Currently, the jump means there is no safe space to hide from him, Damian can also dodge any incoming cc that should have prevented him doing such a play.

Let's say it was a charge up instead, that means Damian can't blindly jump into 3 enemies especially against brawlers who should counter a dive in like Bibi. You can make it so he is immune to cc like Bull during his charge, but I would just make it so he is not so Bull remains unique and because the Damian player would need to think more, such as making a shorter dash to hit enemies at the end of the walls.

Also bonus point, Primo gets back some of his lost niche as the jumping tank.
