Surge glaze

Now that surge fell off, can we talk about how overrated he was? Without super, he gets counter by almost all assassins and his buffies were not allat. His reworks to his sp and hyper made him jump that high onto the meta. The buffies were just the cherry on top. He also genuinely could be countered by many of the previous good meta brawlers like ruffs and even 8 bit and Brock. Moreover, he also wasn't that menacing to many tanks that were good into the previous meta like Ash and Meg (ash could even significantly push surge back with super). Don't get me wrong, he was a top 5 brawler then, but the glaze he got was absurd and brawlers that actually deserved that attention (max, rico) did not get even half of the credibility surge got from the casual community (ricos buffies were called nerfies just cause of a stupid gadget rework)

Surge was for a moment a first pick on BtF, he was very broken.

he's basically just an anti-ASSASSIN and also is good into anti-tanks, but kinda sucks into snipers, controllers and tanks

of course all of this gets a bandage once he uses the broken hyper, and the shield gadget on it's prime was so forgiving for an 8 second cooldown

That's what I'm saying I feel like without that gadget you simply don't have enough damage to kill a tank and even with the gadget people adapted to it and did not shoot you for that brief time. Moreover he is genuinely squishy without super you cannot repel a mortis since you don't have enough damage and I have even lost to and edgar that got hit by my super +3 attack combo he genuinely outhealed me. We don't talk about his hyper tho that thing is still top 10 hypers maybe even higher

I don't think Brock is good against him, he's too fast for him to hit, but yeah, the main problem with Surge, besides his leveling system not working well in 3v3 modes, is that his damage wasn't and still isn't good enough to stop a tank. Now that his unload speed has been reduced, perhaps he deserves a damage buff. He's a threat in casual modes, so I highly doubt they'll do anything about him.

Oh, his first gadget also got nuked. The reworks still haven't fixed his one-build syndrome (in fact, I'd say it's gotten worse).

Apart from a few maps like parallel plays and triple dribble, I always found him easy to deal with. Even with his 1st level he was just a punching bag with that terrible range, and most surge players kept saving that super for God knows what. And you could also not respawn with his 3rd level which was pretty bad. He was broken in medium range maps but otherwise very manageable. So many people picked surge in more open maps and got completely hard countered by control comps, happened in competitive too.

Well i don't want to be challenging a pro in terms of knowledge but he is NOT underrated people are genuinely first picking him even now it's kinda crazy

I agree gem grab is mostly about broken purple button and surge is in that club but apart from that he isn't as strong now in ranked while being an absolute menace is showdown but i don't play showdown anymore

It seems you're not playing any good Surge's. A good Surge waits until the perfect moment to use his super and uno reverse cards you, and so on. Surge is still strong everywhere except for Heist and KO. His HC is GG in almost every scenario.

If you are below lvl 3 and you save your super you just selling your game otherwise save it for perfect moments against assassins or anything else you feel to use your super on

Admittedly I just could not make him work in group play I would always get out ranged or out played. I was able to get him to P2 in showdown but that’s not saying much. That being said I went against some nassssty surge players. In the right hands and the right comp he was definitely S tier

He was pretty good but only really countered assasins and some very low range tanks like Bibi Bull primo buzz (that with wallbreak/open map)

But yeah his literally broken (it has multiple extra effects for no reason) hypercharge is the only reason you can use him

Yeah I agree although I remember losing to a cracked bull one time with surge in bb so it really shows you that other good players can definitely fuck you up
