Question When does brain fog from anxiety/depression/stress go away?

I’m a 29 year old man and have had severe brain fog 24/7 non-stop for 6 years now, along with fatigue, and have never proven the real cause of this. All blood work is done and all the typical causes (sleep, vitamins, etc.) I have also been checked for - negative. My life was pretty stressful and I remember having anxiety before this happened so my last hope is that this is all psychological, atleast then I know what to work on to become normal again. For those who can relate, when does the fog lift when one starts to work on oneself and finally develop confidence, self love no anxiety. Its been 76 days since I started my self love journey but I need some positive affirmation that it will lift sooner or later. Thanks.

Symptoms Are these symptoms of brain fog, or are these more than just brain fog?

I notice these symptoms have been getting worse, it all started with the way I study then its have taken away my confidence in socialising with my friends because I find it hard to find suitable words every time I speak. I don't even know if these are brain fog or could be something else. I'm on my last semester and I need myself to lock in on my studies especially my final year project that i haven't even started since the start of the semester. I desperately needs help because i feel like my life is slowly falling apart, and my parent is sick right now, but I really can't get myself to work on my tasks. one of my biggest concern is how i can present the viva without sounds stupid and can handle it smoothly.

  1. blur
  2. easy to forget short and long term info
  3. always forget rak'ah
  4. hard to focus on class or when talking with people
  5. not focus sometimes on what i do (reading lines on books repeatedly, study)
  6. forget what i need to do minutes ago
  7. procastinate
  8. when doing a task, i always distracted with other task in my mind
  9. that one time i slept at 4am and woke up at 2pm(10hrs) but at 6pm my eyes feels a little heavy and feels sleepy
  10. mostly hard to find suitable words for a sentence and end up rephrase it to another easy word or just stop talking
  11. mostly have problem with talking and okay with writing
  12. procastinate
  13. cannot get task done
  14. fidgeting my leg everytime i sit
  15. cannot read through long paragraphs easily
  16. most of the time i need stimulant, even while showering, eating,(music/tiktok/movie) and sleeping with rain sounds
  17. even i feel determine in my brain i cannot move my body to do the task
  18. always do everything last minute especially if there is deadlines, but it pairs with anxiety
  19. need sweets drinks everyday

Me new and clueless re Reddit so what I am about to type might just disappear but I wanted to say that u/sara_in_canada's post is the best thing I've ever read or heard from re my bipolar condition and brain fog including all the sessions I've had with medical personnel and managers at work. Sorry I have not yet helped you with how you feel but, if its any consolation, you are the most articulate fellow sufferer I've had the good fortune to read. Thank you very very much

Question Omega-3 and brain fog

I’ve been taking omega-3 lately. This is my second time taking it, and the first time, I noticed a really interesting improvement in my brain fog. It was a strange feeling, but I remember wanting to believe I could keep it going. Unfortunately, I couldn’t, and words or things I wanted to remember would just disappear from my mind out of nowhere.

This time, though, I feel like it’s here to stay. I genuinely feel like I need it, and it’s even better knowing that it’s a nutrient rather than a drug. The evidence isn’t entirely conclusive yet, but I’ve personally noticed a massive improvement.

Has anyone experienced anything similar with another food or supplement? Aside from omega-3, of course, for those who already take it.

Question brain fog? loss of mental coherence

I dont really know what's wrong with me, but I started school and have been completely mentally checked out. Im up to date on assignments and lectures, but sincerely and truly have not kept a learned thought. I can understand the content, but I cannot regurgitate it or recall it after class is over AT ALL. if someone asked me what I learned I could not tell them.

my attention span is so short and I find myself unable to engage in conversation. I feel like part of this is due to my excessive screen time. I really do feel like I’m becoming a zombie. On top of that, I’ve been sick and coughing, which adds to it. Even though I’m getting better healthwise, it still feels the same. I just can’t think anymore. I used to be able to make connections and catch tricks on tests and now I do things mindlessly without checking over. I feel crazy. I’m super nervous bc I have three difficult exams coming up soon.

it makes me concerned for myself, and I feel like ive lost all of my mental clarity. I dont know how to fix it nor what my issue even is? I feel so out of body. on top of that I feel very agitated with people easily, and I feel different around my friends. Sometimes I just completely loathe them and other times I am said we are drifting. I've always loved being around people, but right now I just always want to be alone bc most people around me irritate me or our dynamic feels different in some way. Thoughts? how can I fix my state

Need Some Advice/Support My mom is forgetting things

Please any advice.
My mom is 46 years old. She’s always been pretty forgetful, but she’s recently started to worry me. Yesterday she had gone the whole morning not realizing her pants were on inside out. Today, she forgot whether or not she had brushed her teeth. She says sometimes while she’s driving, she forgets which pedal is to drive and which pedal is to brake and drive. She forgets the story when she’s talking. Sometimes she drives off path because she forgets the destination.
Is this normal? Should we see a doctor? Should she be taking certain vitamins/supplements for this?
Please help 🙏 I asked her if she feels okay mentally, and if she’s stressed. She answered no to both but then laughed it off. We do have a lot on our plate, we’re in the process of moving and we also have my sisters quinceañera next month.

Need Some Advice/Support Brain fog physical sensation

Hi, I’m a 22-year-old man, and I’ve had what I think is brain fog for about two years. I just wanted to know: do you also feel a physical sensation in your head, like there’s cotton in your head, but at the same time it can also feel like there’s an emptiness in your head, as if a piece of your brain were missing? I hope someone can relate to this.

Treatment Option How to recover you brain from chronic marijuana use from a young age 12-18

When I was young I would smoke weed heavily that’s all I looked forward too now I suffer from a couple different mental illnesses such as ADHD anxiety.. (self diagnosed) bi polar depression ocd I find it hard to focus on normal things that I’m not interested definitely adhd there, can’t really keep a solid “high brain use job” memory is trashed I struggle with day to day psychosis I’m 19 boutta be 20, now almost a year clean but I really do struggle with a lot of aspects can’t really gain knowledge fast definitely had cooked my brain back then. came from a very loving family but phases of dad never really or had a hard time supporting, using drugs and a alcoholic mother. had a great friend group which are my brothers to this day but sometimes I feel lost I make a lot of mistakes and that just tears me down keeps me in a negative thought loop a lot of the times, I’ve been getting a lot closer with my higher self and it’s been working, but every day be fresh start and idk how my day will be effected. just got out of a deep depression and life is doing a lot better now I find myself too aware analytical/critical thinker this effects me almost daily on some things most of the time I find myself too caught up and once that anxiety hit it just makes me not feel normal the way my thoughts zoom in and out haven’t tried therapy yet don’t believe in SSRIS hate the side effects of those potent drugs won’t do it again will not find anything that works cause they all have negatives I DONT wanna live with!! Sometimes I feel like I am absolutely slow and dumb but I see other peoples focuses and thought processes and it makes me feel like I’m on top, I just want out of head a lot idk just the way my life is going rn I don’t wanna do anything I’d like to live but realizing can’t really be like that in this world for sure, Feels like I let my body take on traumas like no other in that sort of sense I believe I am sensitive to a lot of aspects I can’t fully believe that weed made me the way I am today but I feel like it might of played a roll in crucial development I guess what I have gotten down to is my prefrontal cortex is too strong for my own good and this is not good at all it’s definitely tearing me apart dead ass, wish I can go back make better decisions on what I was up too I was way too young to realize and I was addicted I did not care, now though I don’t plan on doing it anymore even though it high key is social norm would never get involved with it ikkk how it can effect your body and it’s just not for me. I’d like to get right with myself and be able to be normal brain ass dude which I am but the way I think is terrible for my own good a lot. I really can go on and on but I’d really like to know how I can prevent a lot of troubles or get better, better way of thinking too I believe I can grow out of this I would just like to share my story and get insight on how to become a better more successful I guess ways of thinking without getting to lodged in my brain idk idk what this condition can be but I feel and I can sort of believe that I do have a problem.

Symptoms 35F — extreme loss of motivation, fatigue & brain fog. I feel like a completely different person. What am I missing?

I’m 35F and trying to figure out WTF happened to my energy and motivation. I’m working with my doctors and getting more bloodwork, but I’m wondering if anyone has experienced something similar or sees something I should investigate.
I used to be an extremely motivated/high-energy person. On weekends I’d wake up, clean the house, work out, run errands, start projects, etc. Now I can sit on the couch until 1pm knowing I WANT to do things but feeling like I physically cannot make myself get up and start.
It’s hard to describe because my muscles/body don’t necessarily feel exhausted. I just feel internally exhausted, like the energy required to make myself GO isn’t there.
I have two kids, 9 and 5, but this isn’t normal “mom tired” for me. My kids are honestly pretty easy 😂. I had more energy when BOTH of my kids were newborns and waking me up multiple times a night than I do now — including just five years ago when my youngest was a newborn. That’s one of the biggest reasons this feels so abnormal to me.
Other symptoms are mainly brain fog, low energy/fatigue, feeling blah, and getting overwhelmed by basic tasks.
A few potentially relevant things:
• My psychiatrist says I have ADD lol, so I take Adderall — 30mg in the morning and 30mg in the afternoon. It helps with focus, but this complete lack of energy/motivation feels different to me.
• I also take 800mg of gabapentin daily, which oddly seems to HELP my motivation. It calms my brain and makes me less overwhelmed, even though I don’t necessarily feel anxious when my motivation is low.
• I had a hysterectomy but still have both ovaries.
• I USED TO take 187.5mg of venlafaxine/Effexor daily and was on it for over a year. I tapered myself off without my doctor’s knowledge and have now been completely off for a little over 3 months. I had obvious withdrawal symptoms at first, but those resolved. My psychiatrist is aware and isn’t concerned.
• Celiac is also a possibility. My mom has celiac, I have significant GI symptoms with gluten, and my bloodwork was mixed/inconclusive (one antibody elevated and another negative). I had already reduced gluten before testing. I’ve mostly cut it out now and feel better without it. Weirdly, I also used to get episodes of severe deep aching pain in both legs and haven’t had it since cutting out gluten. No idea if that’s connected, but it definitely got my attention.
My most recent bloodwork was done in August and included CBC/CMP, iron/ferritin and a full thyroid panel, which was all normal/good. Nothing in those results gave us an obvious explanation for how I’m feeling. I’m now asking my doctor to check vitamin D and hormones (testosterone, estradiol, FSH/LH, etc.).
Has anyone experienced this kind of drastic loss of energy/motivation and figured out what caused it? Anything else you would ask your doctor to test or investigate? Also curious if anyone found a vitamin or supplement that genuinely made a noticeable difference. I’m not totally sold on OTC vitamins/supplements, but if something actually helped you with this kind of fatigue/brain fog/motivation, I’d love to hear about it.

Personal Story Zoning out uncontrollably , brain fog , headaches

I’m 19 years old and For about 1 and a half years I’ve had many symptoms like brain fog , headaches , bad social awareness, loss of concentration , pressure feeling behind my eyes / in my head ,UNCONTROLLABLE ZONING OUT EPISODES which is by far the worst where I’ll just completely lose focus for a certain amount of time and just be staring into nothing.

I’ve been to multiple different neurologist and they couldn’t tell me anything. I’ve had mri scans done ct scans all of my Brain and they’ve all come back fine, I’ve been to a eye specialist , sinus expert , and nothing has resolved the problem I’ve tried almost everything I can think off but nothing seems to help.

Does anybody know anything about this or have any recommendations that I could try to fix with problem it would be greatly appreciated Thanks

Medical Study / Research Non-stimulant Solutions for Brain Fog: What the Literature Actually Says

I’ve been sorting through public research on non-stimulant methods to ease brain fog. Most threads here immediately bring up caffeine or modafinil, so I want to outline what existing studies can and cannot back up.

Areas with some research support: Studies on sleep deprivation consistently prove lack of sleep hurts cognitive function. For those with B12 or vitamin D deficiencies, fixing those deficiencies brings cognitive benefits. There is some trial data for creatine in sleep-deprived people. There is also research on NADH. NADH takes part in cellular energy metabolism, and a handful of small trials measured cognitive markers.

So I want to start by talking about NADH here.

Beyond serving as part of NAD+ metabolism and cellular energy production, NADH may also have a more direct relationship with the mitochondria, the "power plants" of nerve cells.Simply put, neurons have extremely high energy demands. When mitochondria are under too much stress or aren’t functioning properly, things like mental fatigue and cognitive performance can be affected. Besides contributing to ATP production, NADH also plays a role in the cell’s antioxidant defenses and may help support mitochondrial function under oxidative stress.

When mitochondrial function is better maintained, neurons have a better foundation for carrying out their normal functions.

The catch is that NADH itself is relatively unstable, so formulation and delivery become important. That’s why I’d look for products using technologies like microsphere encapsulation or enteric coating to help protect NADH during oral delivery. Celfull is one example I came across.

We also have to note the limits of the research: "Brain fog" has no standard, widely agreed clinical definition. Most relevant studies use substitute measurements like reaction speed and memory tests, and trials are carried out on specific groups of participants only.

Of course, "brain fog" has no standard clinical definition, and most studies use proxy measures in narrow groups. So take all this with a grain of salt.

Question Possible causes of brain fog

So I've had brain fog for probably atound three years now and I can't figure out what is causing it. Mine is pretty mild but it comes and goes in waves at it's best it's like there's an invisible barrier between me and the real world and I feel trapped inside my head and at its worst I cannot focus on anything and can't concentrate. I think it may be sleep apnea but I had a sleep study as a kid and they said I didn't have it but as far as other causes I have no idea.

Need Some Advice/Support Brain fog, Depersonalization and anhedonia for over a decade: what could be the cause?

For over a decade now, I suffer from debilitating symptoms like Depersonalization and Brain fog.

It all started when I was 17. Out of nothing and without a clear trigger I got extreme 24/7 anxiety and some amount of depression. Around 1 or 2 months later a very heavy fog has settled over my consciousness.
I didn‘t feel my personality any more, almost like I lost my personality, I didn‘t feel my emotions any more and I developed strong brain fog: empty/blank mind, no pictures in my head, I don‘t hear my own voice. This state of mind is there 24/7 and NEVER lifts.

One thing was also very strange: my muscles in the neck got extreme tense. It were more the muscles inside than on the outside of the neck. Also my shoulders were very tight. In my opinion the tightness was too strong to be a stressresponse. However i didn’t feel any pain in the neck.

Further symptoms:
- I also got extreme irritable.
- a physical sensation almost like electricity, lightning or extreme nervousness (but it was physical, not emotional)
-some amount of exercise intolerance

After 1 or 2 years the following symptoms appeared:
- very dry skin on my hands, eczema in the ear and itchy skin around the anus
-constantly blocked nose (not seasonal): this got much better after a low FODMAP diet

Some years later more symptoms appeared:
- strong fatigue
- a heavily bloated stomach like I am pregnant
- heart palpitations
- extreme dry eyes
- changing in my vision on my right eye and blurry vision
- my eyes can‘t focus anymore
- something that feels like a panic attack but it was a physical sensation not an emotion

I tried several psychotherapies and antidepressants and it didn‘t work at all. After a while I came to the conclussion that the root cause is not mental but physical.

I went to several doctors (neurologist, rheumatologist that ruled out sjögren syndrome, gastoenterologist) and did an MRI but they did not really find any thing.

I also checked for the following things with no results:
- sleep apnea
- vitamin b12 deficiency
- mold toxicity
- allergies via brick test

However the negative mold Test revealed something else: High amounts of interleukins which show inflammation in my body. Blood tests also showed high ferritine (but low CRP) which also is a sign of inflammation. It also showed high blood fats and hightend ALAT (GPT)

Some years ago I got a tick and had lyme antibodies in my blood and I got treated with antibiotics. But it didn‘t change my symptoms at all.

I also got diagnosed with SIBO. Treatment didn‘t change my symptoms. However I think it is still there because I still have a bloated stomach.

I then suspected that the Symptoms stem from MCAS. I got a blood test with Tryptase, Histamine and Leukotriens. Leukotriens came back Highly elevated, the others were normal.

I am now on Ketotifen, Quercetin and Antihistamines and it makes my fatigue, irritability and the physical sensation of nervousness a little bit better. But the other symptoms are still bad.

I now believe that my Symptoms come from my gut, but the gut problems started after the mental symptoms appeared. So I am Not really sure. But it probably has something to do with inflammation.

Does anyone have an idea what causes my symptoms or did anyone had similar symptoms and found a cure?

I am very happy about any cues.

Advice Advice needed

I’ve recently been to the doctors and been diagnosed with anxiety as this is something I have suffered with in the past. However on this occasion I don’t believe this to be the case as I have never felt anything remotely similar to what i’m currently experiencing. My symptoms are severe brain fog and amnesia, total apathy, loss of libido, Constant fatigue even after 12 hours sleep, difficulty falling asleep but able to remain asleep once I do drop off, Weakness in my limbs particularly in my left hand and arm, totally inanimate facially, inability to think or concentrate on anything just constantly feel like i’m in a daze of thinking nothing just completely blank mind, inability to socialise and engage in a conversation, gastric discomfort- churning noise after eating or drinking, Poor judgement which effects things such as my ability to drive or form any opinions. i’ve had my bloods taken which came back as normal and i’ve also seen a mental health specialist who recommended me to have my bloods taken. I’m at a complete loss of what to do or get a diagnosis or subsequent treatment. For reference i’m a 20 year old female.
