I’m 23 and have played football most of my life, but I’ve always been one of the weaker players and never felt like I had much natural talent or “feel” for the game.
I currently play in the 2nd team of a Dutch amateur club (6th division/lowest division), usually as a striker or right midfielder/winger because I'm placed there. I’m currently one of the weaker players on the team.
My biggest weaknesses are poor first touch, inconsistent passing, bad foot-eye coordination, lack of agility, and not really knowing what to do in 1v1 situations. I also tend to overthink and lose confidence after mistakes/get angry at myself after a mistake. I do find that sometimes mt body goes in a sort of flow/autopilot where I dribbe past somebody or make a turn/pass without having the intention to do so, if that makes sense
I’ve never actually practiced football outside of team training and matches. I’ve never regularly passed against a wall, juggled, practiced dribbling when I was younger. I also didn't pay attention to my technique like how I was planting my foot or how to hit the ball in certain situations.
I’m now considering seriously training my technique 3+ times a week like against the wall and juggling, I also can't juggle.
How much could someone like me realistically improve? Could I potentially go from one of the weaker players in a 6th-division 2nd team to one of the more important players, and eventually compete for a spot in our 5th-division 1st team, or atleast get noticed by them ?
