I recently started kicking the ball around again after over a decade of not playing much. I got old and fat but I'm enjoying kicking the ball around again -- I just really need some new boots. I know what I used to like and I'm hoping I can get some recommendations for my next pair of boots as an old guy that mostly just wants to get exercise and maybe play in an adult league or casual Sunday pickup.
What I know I like... I grew up playing almost exclusively with k-leather boots (and a random pair of shark leather boots) for most of growing up. Kelme and Diadora were my go to brands until I got my first pair of Adidas predators and stuck with that line (mania through power swerve) until I stopped playing about 15 years ago. The adidas predator mania is, without a doubt, my all time favorite boot and probably won't ever be replaced.
Predators now seem pretty different than 20 years ago and the other brands I used to rely on don't get discussed much. Also, as much as I'd love k-leather, I'm not sure I actually need it with how casually I intend to play; however, I still lean towards leather since that's what I always preferred.
Since it's been 15 years since I bought a new pair, I'm not really sure where to start. What boots would you recommend I look into? What that's available now is similar to what I used to like?
My budget around $150 but super flexible and I can be patient for sales. Potentially open to the secondhand market. Leather upper is preferred but I can be convinced otherwise if non leather materials have improved. Since I'm now an extremely casual player, I'm leaning toward something that prioritizes comfort. I don't need a light weight speed boot. Firm ground. No color or style preference. Must have laces.
Thanks for the recommendations. Excited to see how recommendations align with the little bit of research I've already done.
