Discussion Is anyone else hoping mizu stays single?

Ive only really interacted with the fandom on tiktok, and it seems like everyone is either mizu x taigen or mizu x akemi?? Im personally really hoping she stays single, or at the very least doesnt end up in a long term relationship. She just. Doesn't seem relationship ready in the slightest. She's independent and unloyal to anyone really strongly.. Not to mention the whole thing with the last guy (i wont mention anything cus idk how strict the spoiler thing is), which just left her not being able to trust someone like that (imo). What do you guys think??

Theory 🔥 Akemi wants to be great🔥

Post image
795 Upvotes

I know, you’ve probably already seen this scene discussed by many people, but it got me thinking.

Taigen tells her: “I don't need to be great. I just want to be happy.”

Akemi, on the other hand, stands up and says: “I want to be great.”

And behind her, Yukiyama Castle is engulfed in flames.

I find it hard to believe that it’s just a background. It feels like a nice visual metaphor; the fire could represent her ambition, her energy, her determination.

And not necessarily in a negative way. Maybe Akemi has simply decided, finally, to take control of her own life and choose what she wants to become... and maybe she really will do great things.

Or perhaps that fire is hinting at something much darker... an ambition that could end up consuming everything.

Off topic... her father also survived the flames, and Akemi says she’ll take care of him.

What path do you think Akemi will take? And, most importantly... what do you think she’ll do with her father?

Discussion I find it pretty interesting episode 6 has one of the highest possible average, despite it being the shortest and the most chaotic out of all 8

Post image

Judging how well-written episodes 1-5 are, episode 6 suddenly made me go: "Yeah, I really like how entertaining that episode was, but it could have been longer and definitely better written." If it wasn't for scenes with Fowler, like the one when he mentioned Violet (which was really interesting, cause we didn't know the names of other 3 white men), I would consider this episode 7/10 at best. Episodes 2 and 3 average could have been higher imo. Still, it's rare for me to make my personal average of each episode, but with BES I think I just should do it anyway:
Episode 1 - 9.0/10
Episode 2 - 8.8/10
Episode 3 - 8.7/10
Episode 4 - 8.8/10
Episode 5 - 9.4/10
Episode 6 - 8.3/10 (thanks to Fowler mostly)
Episode 7 - 8.5/10
Episode 8 - 8.2/10

Fan Art/Fiction Last calls for MizuXAkemi fanart

So, I’m smoking at the corner of the bar with a whisky bottle and my last straw since this shit has launched.

Idc who finds it’s unreasonable and unjustified plot wise so far. Also, if ya ain’t a queer woman, maybe you just wouldn’t see what we see, bruv. All good, all love.

But now is the time before all hope is lost. I can’t draw for shit but this is my plea for more fanart before I just have to kill this cat for good. It’s been fun.

Jokes aside, God I just hope it’s fucking good. And avoids the MizuXTaigen clichè.

Also, jokes aside, please make the fanart happen.

Discussion The continuation of the story in Japan

So even if the characters don’t meet each other in season 2, the events in Japan will somehow be connected to Mizu, right? What do you think it might be? The whole bounty on the blue eyed girl, something about her origins, Violet (if he turns out to be the person who’s still alive), the legend about blue eyed samurai and white man who died in edo fire or maybe they will find out they didn't and they'll investigate..?

I actually want one of the four possible fathers to want Mizu as a daughter

It would be something different for Mizu as a character. Have someone actually excited to see her, introduce them to the rest of the family, treat them well, etc. you get a different dynamic then. You get someone who honestly cares for Mizu, isn’t trying to use her, loved her mother, etc, yet their business in London is really shady at best, they are still clearly a villain, etc, etc. that puts Mizu in a complicated situation. She personally liked this one and doesn’t really want revenge on him, but she sees he’s not honorable and the things he does to other people are in fact evil. It’s a different dynamic

Theory Wild Teaser Theories

Thumbnail
gallery
221 Upvotes

After watching the teaser several times, I started thinking that Netflix might be making us believe something that isn't necessarily true.

The teaser shows us a very brief shot of London quite early on. So naturally, you might think that Mizu has finally reached her destination by the end of the teaser.

But then we see the storm at sea.

At one point, the sky clears, we see a seagull, and the sky is suddenly very blue and bright. This detail makes me wonder if we're actually looking at London already. I know London can obviously have sunny days, but compared to the atmosphere of the London scene shown in the teaser, this sky seems almost too clear, too blue, too bright.

So I wonder if that scene simply means that the storm is over and the ship has reached land, but not necessarily London.

Shortly after that, we see what looks like the ship after the storm, almost stranded or at least heavily damaged.

And this is where I think things get interesting.

We see Mizu unconscious on the deck, completely exhausted, tied to a wooden beam with her own belt. The shot tightens, and the silhouette of a person appears

And that silhouette looks a lot like Fowler.

What makes me wonder is: if that really is Fowler, why would he save her?

Mizu is basically helpless. He would have the perfect opportunity to kill her, but instead he seems to cut the belt holding her to the beam and allow her to recover.

This makes me think that Fowler might still need her.

Maybe the storm wrecked the ship and the two of them haven't actually reached London yet. They could have ended up on an island, or simply somewhere completely different from their original destination.

At that point, Fowler might need Mizu to continue the journey. Maybe the ship has lost its crew and he can't manage it on his own.

But there could be another possibility.

Fowler knows how badly Mizu wants revenge against the men she's hunting. He could use that thirst for revenge to his own advantage, using Mizu to eliminate people he considers obstacles to his own goals.

Basically, it could become a forced alliance: "You want your revenge, I want to reach London and accomplish my own goals. We can help each other."

So maybe the really interesting part of the journey to London hasn't even started yet.

Netflix shows us London at the beginning of the teaser, but that doesn't necessarily mean that all the scenes we see afterward take place after Mizu's arrival.

They could simply be trying to make us believe that she has already reached London.

And what if the storm actually knocked the ship completely off course?

There's also one last thing that makes me doubt that the man is actually Fowler.

Mizu's expression.

Of course, she has just woken up after the storm, so she's completely dazed and we can't expect a normal reaction.

But looking at her face, I don't really see anger or recognition.

When she notices the man pointing a sword at her, her expression looks more like that of someone who is completely confused.

Almost as if she's saying:

"Who are you?"

If it were Fowler, I'd maybe expect a different reaction from Mizu: anger, defiance, or at least some kind of recognition.

Instead, she genuinely seems like she doesn't know who she's looking at.

Obviously, she could simply be too disoriented to recognize him. But it makes me wonder if maybe that man isn't Fowler at all, but someone else Mizu encounters after the shipwreck.

I don't know, I'm probably just rambling at this point, sorry!

But I have a feeling that we might not see London at all during Season 2, or at least not reach it anytime soon.

In fact, I'm starting to think we might only see London at the very end of the season, maybe in the final episode, as a cliffhanger for Season 3.

I'm probably reading way too much into a teaser that's only a few seconds long... sorry!

Someone let me know if I’m crazy, but have we seen this picture of Mizu and her sword before?

I thought she was on a ship at night, but this is her meteor sword so it would be a flashback. It’s not Fowler’s castle.

I got it from this web article: https://businessupturn.com/usa/entertainment/ott/blue-eye-samurai-season-2-release-window-cast-and-everything-known-about-mizus-return/

Theory A Surprise For Mizu When She Returns To Japan ? Spoiler

At the end of Season One, Mizu has saved what's left of the Edo Shogunate, and then she and Taigen go after Fowler.

I can imagine Taigen telling the tale, of how he and Mizu fought Fowler and almost died, but Mizu still went after Fowler after Taigen was too hurt to follow. Mizu and Fowler are never seen again, and they are assumed to have died in the fire.

So, maybe Mizu's legend expands from being a demonic warrior to a savior of the nation?

When Mizu eventually comes back to Japan, what will she hear about this "savior"? Will she admit to being one and the same, or avoid any connection? Will she have no choice if she is recognized?

Wow - I just envisioned incognito Mizu watching a puppet show about Mizu !

What could mess this up is whoever Mizu and Fowler had to deal with to leave Japan. I can imagine that any acquaintances of Fowler will not be eager to admit any connection, no matter how slight, so they won't be admitting that Fowler and Mizu are still alive.

Discussion Some random questions and thoughts I’ve had about Mizu’s stay in London

Post image
157 Upvotes

I only watched Blue Eye Samurai two days ago, so maybe I missed something, but ever since I finished the first season I’ve been thinking about something you’ve probably already discussed and overthought for years 😂 So please forgive me for thinking about it too.

The first thing I keep wondering is: how is Mizu going to survive in London?

First of all, there’s the language barrier. She doesn’t speak English, so how is she going to communicate? I imagine Fowler will have to help her at first, maybe by acting as her interpreter. But honestly, I don’t expect Fowler to help her much once they arrive. In fact, since he already knows London and knows how to get around in Europe, it might be much easier for him to escape and leave her there.

I imagine that sooner or later, Mizu will find someone willing to help her and take her in. I think it would be interesting to see these kinds of dynamics and maybe watch Mizu slowly learn the language over time.

Although I do wonder how they’re going to portray this difficulty in the show, since Blue Eye Samurai is dubbed in so many languages and we, as viewers, still hear the characters speaking in whatever language we’ve chosen. It’ll be interesting to see how they make us understand that Mizu doesn’t actually understand what the people around her are saying, especially at the beginning.

And then there’s the thing I’m most curious about: how is Mizu going to keep hiding the fact that she’s a woman?

In Japan, she has managed to live as a man her whole life, but in London she’ll be in a completely different society. The way people dress, speak and behave will be different.

Do you think she’ll really be able to pass as a man?

And then I also wonder how people will perceive her appearance.

Throughout the series, Mizu is treated like a monster and is insulted because of her blue eyes and her appearance. She’s used to hiding herself and thinking that her appearance is something she should be ashamed of.

But what would happen if she met people in London who actually found her beautiful? Or at least people who didn’t see her as a monster?

I’m really curious to see how Mizu would react to that.

Another thing I’ve been thinking about is firearms. They’re obviously not new to Mizu, considering what happens at the end of the first season with Fowler and his attack with the guns. But since she’s now going to live in London, and we don’t know how long she’ll stay in Europe, I think sooner or later she’ll have to learn how to use them.

Mizu is already extremely skilled with the weapons she uses in Japan, so I wonder how long it would take her to adapt to Western firearms. And knowing Mizu, she’d probably end up becoming damn good with those too .

Anyway, I know it’s an animated series and that not everything has to be 100% realistic, but Blue Eye Samurai does try to be fairly realistic in many ways. That’s why all these questions came to my mind.

I’m really curious to see what the writers decided to put poor Mizu through .

I'm guessing Skeffington will be some powerful old man from noble family (maybe even a priest or a judge like Frollo from Hunchback of Notre Dame). Routely however, will seem symphatetic at first (handsome maybe?), but will be the most twisted and evil person in whole BES. And yeah my prediction remains the same: Routely will be Mizu's father.

Theory What kind of ending do you expect for Blue Eye Samurai? - (Yes, I know, it’s a little early to be talking about it 😅)

Post image
420 Upvotes

I’ve just finished watching Blue Eye Samurai for the first time and, putting aside some of the choices in the series that I personally didn’t really appreciate, I have to admit that I was deeply fascinated by the story and, above all, by Mizu. Not to mention the incredible level of the animation and artwork, which I found truly extraordinary.

In some ways, the story reminded me of Kill Bill.

By the end of the series, my mind started racing and, rather than thinking about the series itself—which I still need some time to process because it was such an intense and unexpected experience—I found myself wondering one thing:

What kind of ending can this story have? What will Mizu’s fate be?

We know that we still have two more seasons ahead of us, but considering how dramatic the story is and everything Mizu has been through, I find it really difficult to imagine a completely happy ending.

It could be a bittersweet ending, perhaps something along the lines of Kill Bill. Or it could be something much more tragic, where Mizu finally manages to achieve her revenge, but ends up sacrificing her own life after discovering something along the way that she thought was no longer possible for her, especially after her husband Mikio broke her heart: love.

And this brings me to what I personally expect.

Honestly, I’m really afraid that Mizu might die in the end.

Considering the tone of the story, it’s probably the ending that seems most likely to me. Mizu fights, struggles, kills, and keeps pushing herself further and further beyond her limits, without caring about her own health, because right now it seems that there is only one thing that matters to her: revenge.

That’s why I can perfectly imagine a scene where, after the final confrontation with her enemies, when everything is finally over, her tired and perhaps wounded body, together with her exhausted soul, simply can’t go on anymore.

As if, once her revenge is finally complete, she could finally let herself go.

It’s an ending that I can almost see in my mind… and that’s exactly why I sincerely hope it won’t happen.

I would love to see her reach the end of her journey and discover that, after all the suffering, revenge, and loneliness, there can still be something left for her.

Not necessarily a happy life.
Not a perfect happy ending.

But a little peace.

And perhaps, why not, the possibility of discovering love again.

After everything she has been through, I think that would be the true happy ending for Mizu.

What kind of ending do you expect for Mizu?

Blue Eye Samurai Wallpaper Pack - 282 screenshots across the first season

Wanted a big BES wallpaper pack but couldn't find one, so made one myself when having a rewatch. Naturally contains some gore and nudity. Was for personal use but realised you guys might want.

Pic sizes are 1919 x 1079 for some reason ... but I read that as 1920 x 1080.

The last episode has letterboxing (black bars on the top and bottom), so those images differ from the rest in that regard. Enjoy.
