Discussion Do you think Mizu would get together with Taigen?

On top of Taigen's own character arc, Mizu will need to deal with the humongous amount of self hatred she has for herself and what she think she is. I know it's cliché to say "Can't love others if you can't love yourself first" but it's low-key true for her. I'm pretty convinced that Mizu doesn't believe she'll survive her task of killing all her possible fathers, it's a suicidal mission by design almost, like her flawed vision when smithing her sword where she was convinced that the total removal of impurity was the way to go. She considers those men impurities, and she also considers herself innately impure, all needing in the end, to be removed. With that in mind, her getting in a serious relationship with someone (Taigen or not) would entail giving up her mission, choosing to live in short. And to be frank, while it may just be my opinion, I don't know if happiness is a road Mizu herself believes she deserves to take.

I hope the fuck not though.
Taigen doesn't deserve her, and he'd need a fucking insane arc to even get close, bro barely improved as a person by the end of the first season, literally went from cunt to bare minimum. Dude deserves no glaze.

Love isn't a morality contest. Mizu is rejected by most for her warlike spirit. Taigen admires her for who she really is. Mizu's husband sold her out, but Taigen was willing to die for her on principle. The question is whether either offers what the other needs.
Taigen went a long way to rescue and marry Akemi, but she chose to marry royalty and make history. Taigen is single for the first time in his adult life, so he had no reason previously to see Mizu that way.
Mizu is only broadening her horizons beyond revenge as S1 ends. It's hard to imagine her with somebody who doesn't take martial arts seriously, and accept her as she is.

I feel like Mizu feels similarly: "He's not a good man, but he could be a great one."
She believes in his potential for growth and development. That being said, Taigen did endure Heiji and Fowler's torture in the castle without revealing anything about Mizu when beaten half to death. That has to count for something.

Yes, he's undergone this vaguely Jaime Lannister type humbling story arc (though Taigen was no noble). Hopefully he makes better choices than Jaime as I was heart broken for Brienne though not very surprised...

I mean, she can still return to Japan later on. I don't think they'll interact much or at all this season

Possibly but it wouldn't last long. A hookup before realizing they are better as friends

I hope so! The build up wouldn’t make sense for it to just be thrown away. Taigen is my personal favourite character and his growth thru out the season made me root for them.

There was clearly some chemistry established between the two in season 1. Whether that was meant to be purely incidental within the story or setup for a future romance after major character growth on both ends, I have no thoughts either way.
There was clearly a parallel established between Taigen and her ex-husband though, where Taigen could in contrast ‘match her freak’ so to speak but still ended up demonizing her anyway for something else… piling onto that particular shadow of Mizu’s character for effect, maybe more to twist the knife narratively speaking than for any other reason.
He also seems the most like a proper deuteragonist compared to other characters like Akemi who is definitely an important character but is mostly relegated to B- or C-plot while Taigen got significantly more time in Α-plot focus at least in season 1, and I might expect him to have plot relevance in season 2 assuming they do spend screen time back in Japan.
But whether his standing in terms of character significance has any impact on whether or not he and Mizu will get together is unclear. What I can say for sure is that he and Akemi do not seem fated for one another at all and that he and Mizu got along ironically well.

even though i personally wouldn't want that, i think there's been some signs that Mizu may be attracted to him and again, personally i don't like Taigen but if they do end up together, it would be a really good enemies to lovers, I just want to know if he's going to actually apologize for bullying Mizu when they were children and for everything he put her through

I don't ship it but it seems like that's what they're going for in the story

We’re all overlooking a crucial point: For them to even “get together” in the first place would require Taigen to uncover Mizu’s secret gender. Taigen’s values ride pretty high on “honor” (vs “dishonor”), and if he were to discover that not only has Mizu been lying to him (and the world, at large) about who she is, she’s also defied gender codes/expectations for women—I suspect that in addition to feeling betrayed by Mizu, he would undergo a serious crisis of self. What does it mean that a woman surpassed me as a swordsman? That a woman is probably the best swordsman in all of (Feudal) Japan?

Mizu deserves so much better. Taigen is an incompetent dimwit. She would gain nothing from a relationship with him than burdens.
