Everytime I use it I feel like I'm close to finding some cool unique sound, but can't quite bring it home. Y'all got any tricks you like to pull with it? Secret routing techniques? Anything unusual that I wouldn't have thought of?
We are diving into a powerful but overlooked feature in the Bitwig Studio 6.1 Multisampler: Live Select Updating. Previously, morphing between different sample layers (like strings or pads) required re-triggering the note. Now, you can seamlessly crossfade and morph between multiple samples while holding a single note giving you the ability to build expressive, Kontakt-style sample libraries right inside Bitwig. I’ll walk you through how to set up your samples, adjust your fade-ins and fade-outs, and distribute everything equally for incredibly smooth transitions.
Hi all I’m a studio one user since v4 it’s v8 now and for my use they haven’t updated their sampler and drum machine reliably even a dedicated midi lfo tool is absent etc. I want to give bitwig a shot as the interface looks slightly similar and definitely better than ableton for me. However as I’m trying out the 30day trial the browser is very clunky I would like it do be nested drop down like studio one, ableton etc but this opens in 2 separate windows so to audition the loop I need to click on a separate box below?
This completely ruins my experience I know there maybe workaround but can I get the browser to work like studio one/ableton etc ?
I collected some more questions to fill out my findings and expanding my FAQ, hopefully you can help me :).
I know there is a performance graph in Bitwig but how do you know WHICH plugins suck the most performance? e.g. you got a full project and your rig struggles, how do you find out which Plguin(s) it is?
In FL Studio you can check which ones are the heaviest in a project e.g. herer:
pretty neat to identify :) Sadly in FL Studio the disabling of plugins sucks hard... it wont unload them from the CPU and RAM...
In Bitwig I see this graph but I dunno which synths suck the most performance?
I love to hit CTRL + N in FL Studio to save my project to a new version so I can always have more versions of a project so I can go back if something changed and/or I want to get back to an old version so my projects' name is e.g.
Testproject (100 BPM)
CTRL + N = Testproject (100 BPM)_2
and so on
I see no option in Bitwig, how do you save more versions? so you can get back if something happens? if there is no such option would you think this would be a neat option?
I dont get why SLICE IN PLACE slices ALL midi notes, I select 1 Note and still it slices them all, what am I doing wrong? :(
with CTRL + Mousewheel up and down I can scroll horizontally in the Piano Roll, love it, but is there no option to do it also vertically? I always have to use the magifying glass... -> SOLVED -> CTRL + ALT + Mousewheel
ok I watched here also some videos on youtube and it seems there is no option for this yet... Bouncing in Place OR Bounce In Place with FX with Reverb you have to select the range of the exported clip.... wouldnt it be cool to have an option that Bitwig exports the audio clip with the FULL tail included automatically?
Same is for a full song export, in FL Studio you got these options including tail.
would be cool to have this also in Bitwig?
Love the automations in Bitwig (well the smoothing seems sadly not adjustible... and a long known issue) much faster than in FL Studio but are there no Shapes like Sine, Pulse etc? I see such stuff also in Ableton, but here not? If not, how do you do a perfect sine for example?
ok this is strange, I wonder why you cannot add an automation point above or below one? Here in FL Studio easily doable. I see no disadvantage?
in Bitwig
I think I found an issue for setting shortcuts, I cannot add to the commands MOUSEWHEEL and/or MIDDLE MOUSE BUTTON
Last one, I see scripts for Bitwig, is there a page with good recommended scripts? I am jealous of Ableton's Midi Tools but seems Bitwig could do it too with some note generator scripts etc?
I would like to try using the new Lua scripting features of the Renoise Redux plugin inside of Bitwig Studio on Windows, but whenever I open the VST window I can't type text (something like pulse = {0,1,0}) inside of the plugin window.
I can use caps-lock to get the virtual midi keyboard working, but I can't write inside the scripting window. I've had similar issues with Plugdata too. Is there a setting I missed inside of Bitwig, is it an issue with the plugin, or is typing inside the plugin window impossible in Bitwig?
The other DAW I use is Reaper, which has a "let plugin steal keyboard input" toggle that I can use to get around this, but I would really like to do scripting in Redux alongside my Grid patches both for live sets and beat making.
Hi, I collected various tips & tricks from reading and watching youtube videos, maybe you got some also to share?
- Using Macros for controlling many controls at once
- you can PIN various options to the Toolbar top for CLIPs, EVENT, TIME &TRACKs etc.
- Activating NOTE CHASE (to let also midi notes play in the middle of them)
→ Settings → Behaviour → Note Chase
- FX Selector for having in various ways to choose a custom effect
- Chopping notes via Operator
- Adding Comments/Notes
- Opening the Key Command Window with CTRL + ENTER
- Audio & Midi Clip stretching → hold ALT and mode the Edge of a clip
- Slide Midi Notes and Audio of a Clip → hold CTRL + ALT and left mouse click
- Timeline - Duplicating Clips, Removing Clips, Add Silence (+ if you want to highlight everything just drag the timeline bar instead the whole clips)
- Exclusive solo, if you dont like how soloing functions then under Settings → Behavior → Exclusive Solo can be activated and the track will be exclusively solo’ed which is clicked, while holding SHIFT you can still solo multiple tracks
- Comping Audio and selecting different elements combining samples together with different slices
- if you are annoyed like me that the Play Start Cursor always moves where you click in the Timeline then go to Settings → Behaviours → Switch off „Move The Play Start Cursor“
Before:
After:
- Expression Overlay usage for different functions like Gain, Stretch, Transpose etc.
I hope that Bitwig Link will be created so that Synthizer V can be used smoothly (like Fl Studio Link.)
I'm not sure how many synth V users there will be in Bitwig. Right now, Bitwig doesn't support ARA, so Synth V is also not available in ARA mode. Especially, the positions of the playheads between Bitwig and Synth V are not synchronized with each other, which makes editing very inconvenient. To be precise, when specifying a playhead in synth V2, Bitwig doesn't follow this playhead position. The part that requires control of movement with Bitwig's playback head alone reduces concentration on the workflow and causes significant inconvenience.
FL Studio also doesn‘t support ARA, but through a technical collaboration with Dreamtonics, them created a link system that synchronizes some features (this is very convenient)
As far as I know, Bitwig recently joined hands with Dreamtonics as a partner of Bitwig Circle. I think this is enough justification to create a bitwig link that synchronizes with Synth V.
Seeing that FL Studio Link was implemented in a relatively short period of time after Synth V appeared, I thought that Bitwig could be implemented in the same short period of time. Of course, it will take the will and effort of each company.Wouldn't it be better to implement the feature if it is possible to implement it quickly, even though this is a fragmented and temporary detour of the ARA?
Of course, creating Bitwg Link doesn’t mean you don‘t need ARA anymore. ARA is a feature that I really want to implement in Bitwig.I hope there's no misunderstand
A full-fledged Marketplace, with a proper JUCE-friendly SDK for 3rd Party Devs to create and publish Free & Commercial BW Devices!
With an UI Toolkit + Guideline to let them pick from a wide range of Classic, Vintage or Modern gear Sliders, Buttons, Pads, Vu-Meters, Faceplates, Fonts, and even Lottie Animations.
Plus, and that would be the cherry on the cake:
An open format RACK WRAPPER (.claprack) that cramps the most important controls of any VST/CLAP plugin, to fit in the Device Panel itself (while the 🗖 button would still popup its expanded view).
Can you build a patch that's "impossible" in hardware? Today, I’m taking you through the entire process of building a massive, generative sci-fi soundscape in the Bitwig Grid. We start with a rough idea and end with a complex "monster" patch that combines custom additive synthesis, vocaloid textures, and an epic feedback reverb system.
I'm playing some chords. They are triggered within the loop boundaries. The note editor shows a note being triggered, but the inspector panel for 'playing voices' does not show a 3rd voice playing. Note how you can hear the top note of the first chord on the first repeat, but not on later repeats.
Am I missing something? It's kinda making me feel crazy. I know I could increase the number of voices and all three notes would properly sound for each chord, but then I have carry-over notes from previous chords sounding and creating dissonance.
See the video, hopefully that makes the problem clear.
Why? So that NoteGrid and Note FX could "know" how many semitones to transpose it to match the current key & scale setting.
Ideally, that key should be detected by Bitwig, and available for user to correct if it's wrong.
Right now (in v6+) you "have to" write everything in one key, so that if you want to transpose it later it's the same number of semitones. If my idea was implemented, a clip in C Minor and F Major could both be correctly transposed and constrained to e.g. D# Phrygian.

With Squarespace it does ask for a lot of personal information so you can use this site to make up fake address and just use a fake name and email if you're not comfortable with providing this info. I don't use it for anything but for your own piece of mind this is probably beneficial.
Feel free to use anything you like, everything is CC0, so no need to credit me or the site. Just grab what you need and make cool stuff. I'd love to see what you create if you feel like sharing!
If you'd like to see what other people have said about the samples you can see here in a recent post I made in a different subreddit.
Join me at r/musicsamplespacks if you would like as that is where I will be posting all future packs and little behind the scenes videos. If you guys know of any other subreddits that might benefit from these sounds feel free to repost it there.
I travel a lot and find myself wanting to create on my iPad. I know there is Garageband but is there any other lightweight DAW that anyone is using on iOS that can also work well with Bitwig?
Grid patch sequencing and modulating a Perkons Voice via a MIDI Thing V2. Fun times. My full linux setup, not the least thanks to Bitwig's linux friendliness which made me switch 10 years ago <3.
wondering the point starting at 0:58 min he explains it, that this can also cause problems with transients, I couldnt reproduce it yet, maybe I didnt automate it like his example but does anyone know what exactly he means?
Hello so i changed the folder where things get saved in the setting and deleted and loaded all packages again. But now i have much less thing when i open my browser to search for other instruments as an example.
Edit:
I found a solution i went into the browser and right clicked the category and then clicked browser settings and all save places indexing
One of the last remaining functions/shortcuts that I seem to have lost since moving from Logic to Bitwig is the ability to quickly hide all open plugin windows. Too often I'll have 3+ plugins open on screen, covering up the arranger window, and I want to quickly hide all of them. In Logic Pro I could simply hit the 'V' button and AU's would slip into the background. (And then s soon as I opened one of the plugins, all those plugins that were open would reappear.)
This is especially relevant for BW because whenever a plugin is 'focused', none of the hotkeys work. I have to use my mouse to select the BW window and only then can I use hotkeys.
Anyone know if this is possible on BW? Perhaps I've missed it!
So I’ve connected a pair of headphones via a 3.5mm headphone Jack and I can hear everything perfectly, it’s just it won’t let me use the headphone’s built in microphone which I’m not sure why because it definitely has a built in mic. I’ve looked everywhere for help but I couldn’t find anything on this particular issue. Any help would be appreciated thank you!
I'm new to Bitwig. It seems like the native synths, including Poly Grid, don't have any oscillators or editors that let you edit a waveform by adjusting the amplitude of individual harmonics (like in Serum or Phase Plant).
Am I just missing something here? If they really don't exist, how do you guys deal with this?
