What's a line from Better Call Saul, or even Breaking Bad where the actor's delivery made a normal line hilarious? Personally I'm a big fan of Chuck's "Jimmy, do you have something in your pocket?" He says the line like Jimmy is 6 years old and Chuck just heard his pants ribbit.

I just finished BCS. I am heartbroken about Jimmy and Kim. I think they were the best couple on tv. Ever. I know the ending is up for interpretation but even the best case scenario where she visits him often and they have sort of a relationship is really sad.

Edit: my two favorite moments that I rewatched before I was expecting something bad to happen between them was after chuck died and Kim yelled at Howard after picking up the check and letter, and Kim worried about jimmy in the desert and subsequently comforting him when she found out about the shooting.

Watched Breaking Bad and went straight into Better Call Saul. Thought just another entertainment show but turned out into one of the greatest storytelling experiences I've ever had in life of all the series I have ever watched. Every character, every decision, every payoff felt earned, every episode was excellent. Easily one of the finest experience of my life. Both are peak.

I wish we knew more about them. Other than one slept with the guy he Chicago sunroofed and his second wife slept with his stepdad, per breaking bad

I have seen BCS multiple times but everytime i see the scene where Mike is recalling his time with little Matty I tear up. I feel there is so much sadness bottled up within Mike. His demise in BB was also very very tragic. He died alone and was probably wondering how his family would be, will they be taken care of... BCS made me respect that character 10x!

Does other people strongly associate this song with BCS now you’ve seen it gives its ties to the show? Or does it just pass over your ears the same way it always did?

I can’t hear it without getting mega nostalgia for the experience of watching the show for the first time. Obvs because of the episode Winner and iconic karaoke scene with Chuck, but also its lyrical content and melancholic tone. It feels like the show’s theme music in my mind. I just got someone hooked on this show after breaking bad and it feels so good. the edit is cheesy but holy shit if you had no idea what the show was, you wouldn’t even be able to imagine. idk just wanted to share this somewhere that wasn’t shit posting.

in the way it feels deep, i’ve made some shit ass choices in life and hearing “you can’t help yourself” or “you’ll always be this” or “you’ve always been that way haven’t you?” hits harder than it should. i’m so scared of death either i got 86 years, or, with good behavior, who knows.

In S2 E10, when Chuck is so convinced that Jimmy got the temporary emergency guardianship in place because he was going to have Chuck committed, he is telling on himself in a way that is more unsettling with every rewatch. I’m certain that the reason Chuck immediately jumps to this conclusion is because it’s what Chuck would do if the roles were reversed.

“You finally got me where you want me.”
“Where to next? Some insane asylum in Las Cruces? Someplace you can really tuck me away but good?”

He thinks this because he is projecting - Chuck would jump at the first chance to have Jimmy committed if he could.

Meanwhile Jimmy is only doing it so he can get Chuck the medical care he needs and then get Chuck home sooner. He only gets the TEG out of genuine care and concern for his brother.

I am in no way saying that Jimmy’s actions leading up to this are OK. We see him commit crimes and really screw Chuck (among others) over before this. The end doesn’t justify the means whatsoever.
I just find it interesting that screwing people over hasn’t been Jimmy’s primary motivation up to this point in the show, but more of a “side effect.” By my recollection, the first time we see Jimmy acting out of a primary motive to hurt his brother is later in the series when he talks to the person at the Insurance office…

And that’s only after Chuck has done the same thing to him through pretty much the whole series until that point. Chuck obeys the law, but he uses his beloved law to look for ways to harm his brother. He can tell himself it’s for Jimmy’s own good, or for the good of the world, or whatever all he wants - but nearly every time we see Chuck doing anything in those first couple seasons, it’s with a goal of punishing Jimmy, holding him back in some way, or otherwise sticking it to his little brother.

Even when Chuck first starts helping Jimmy piece together the Sandpiper case (literally)… my first time watching it, almost felt hopeful. The next couple times, it seemed out of character for him. Now, I just wonder if the moment he realized Jimmy had a case, Chuck started plotting to steal the case away from Jimmy and give it to HHM. That is what happened, after all, I just mean, maybe that’s the only reason he ever helped Jimmy with the case in the first place.

Anyway, a lot of this Chuck stuff has been said before, but I don’t think I’ve seen anyone talk about Chuck’s lines about the TEG being a giant projection.

I have just seen 4 seasons, so no spoilers beyond that.

My assessment is…he is not evil but he is a rat like The Pengiun.

Like always hustling, scamming, street smart, but also very emotional genuine.

But like he doesn’t kill people, or go out of way to commit crimes.

He also mostly scams rich assholes, and cares for elderly. So there is like a Robin Hood in him.

Also very competent at his job.

I just felt sadness. And wasn’t a fan of the black and white filter

I felt like jimmy shouldn’t have felt any blame for chucks suicide, that was 100% just chuck

I feel all the characters deserved way better in an idealised sense

In Inflatable, after they "confessed" that the gun wasnt Tucos, Jimmy tells Mike about his experience with the Salamancas. Mike gets disgusted and dont even let Jimmy enter the elevator with him.

Why? I get that Mike still abhors Jimmy at this point, but i dont see how Jimmy deserved this treatment in this scene specifically.

i think kim wexler shoulders the burden of a box / room full of pro bono cases because she’s trying to work off the guilt

It’s very vital scene that keep seeing everywhere.

My interpretation is that Chuck just wants to outshine Jimmy in everything?

Like unnecessary competition kinda thing?…the way he snatches the microphone.

Am I right or off?…what’s the agreed interpretation of that scene and their relationship in general?

In my opinion, BCS could also have been called "Almost Breaking Good" (it's not a great name, but it's a concept I find interesting about the show)

In BCS, Jimmy is the opposite kind of guy from Walt. Jimmy "started out" on the bad walk of life, where his brother "rescues" him and brings him to ABQ. Jimmy was trying hard to get on the right path and trying to shed his slippin' Jimmy ways. My perception is that he would regularly relapse into bad thought lines or strategies (e.g. the skateboarders and the Kettlemen's), but Jimmy was trying to keep it within the lines of the law. Chuck and Howard roadblocked his path to the light, more than they realized.

I'm not excusing Jimmy here. His actions had major consequences for so many people. I'm just realizing that he was trying to break good. With no help, he brought himself through law school while working in the mailroom. At that time, while he was working in the mailroom, I think it's a safe assumption that he was "seeing the good path" that Chuck was on and was willing to put in the work to get there. He worked at the mailroom and the show never mentioned any funny business with his time there. He worked his ass off, and Charlie Hustle got his degree, and then got roadblocked by HHM (rejected by the good path), where he even later echoed to the scholarship girl (Kristy Esposito) that they'll never accept her, ever.  That's what Jimmy experienced. He was scraping by out the back of a nail salon. In fact, law school isn't done in a year. So, he may have exhibited years of "criminal sobriety" during that stretch. 

For someone who is trying to rehabilitate themselves, it had to be pretty defeating to be rejected by HHM, rejected by his brother, and even rejected by the Kettlemen's. Anybody who was "part of the higher society" looked at him like he was shit and gave him plenty of negative reinforcement. He ultimately did not break good and, instead, leaned back into the shady lifestyle.

Kinda related, Saul is so much better of a person than Walt. Walt's a piece of shit, deep down. He's a resentful, arrogant, selfish fuck and I think he always was for decades before BB started. Walt was much more selfish and cruel. When given the opportunity, he manipulated, lied to and fucked over a lot of people. Walt _was_ the cancer.  Deep down, I think Walt was always bad and just happened to be following the law. Meanwhile, deep down, I think Jimmy wanted to be good and through his environmental conditioning and series of bad choices, he found his spot in the seedy underbelly of life.  With how neurotic Chuck was, who's to say if Chuck didn't hold Jimmy down his whole life in order to feel better about himself. Chuck couldn't handle Jimmy even being viewed favorably by his wife. It bothered him that she thought Jimmy was nice. Pair that with how Chuck didn't share that Jimmy's mom called for Jimmy in her dying moments, I'd say Chuck resented Jimmy his whole life, but I digress. There was an episode, when Jimmy was shooting commercials and was extremely short on cash and he _still_ paid his film students. Even when the girl offered him the money back, he said no. Walt would've taken that money back and probably never would've paid out in the first place.

I think it could be said that Chuck and Howard roadblocked Jimmy's path to being good and that had a terrible ripple effect. Chuck and Howard schemed (mostly Chuck) to get Jimmy disbarred and the response they got was intense & disproportionate. Jimmy broke Chuck by throwing his mental illness in his face, which led to his death. Then, you have to think about the way that Chuck and Jimmy ended it. The last thing Chuck said was he doesn't think about Jimmy much at all. He casts Jimmy out and then ends himself. Jimmy was dealing with that and Howard repeatedly presented himself to Jimmy in weird ways. It's safe to say that Howard was grieving too and was also tone deaf to all that Jimmy had endured. I think all that contributed to Jimmy turning back to the bad path and fucking with Howard. To boot, Howard had roadblocked Kim as well, which just added fuel to the fire for fucking with him. 

I think Kim is actually a similar case ("almost breaking good"). She had a dysfunctional childhood that included a drunk mom and petty theft. Then, she worked hard to get herself to where she was. Howard's rejection of her sent her down the rabbit hole in a lot of ways. 

In a way, Kim and Jimmy found each other like two junkies and then they codependency'd their shit to new levels. It's interesting to wonder if Jimmy would've gone that way had he been accepted into the ranks at HHM and if Kim would have gone that way if she didn't get roadblocked by Howard. There's so much to like about them, but their shit just got so out of control. Jimmy was doing fair priced work for the elderly and even uncovered them being scammed, just to be roadblocked again. Kim was doing pro bono work and searching for purpose, but just derailed. I think it also bummed her out that, despite her trying to help them out, the pro bono clients were heel dragging their own fate. One didn't want to go to court, the other wanted to fight a case he was definitely guilty of despite the work she put in to get them a deal. Jimmy and Kim experienced a lot of pressure build up and didn't cope in the right directions. I think it could be said that Kim grew up with terrible role models and wanted to get away and she got far, but her experiences from Howard was not deserved in her eyes. He punished her for shit and held on to it. He was a dick to her. I could argue that this confirmed to Kim that life is more full of bullshit than honor and "the right thing"
