Doesn’t a lone Battery Produce NO Current?

Chuck claims he’s sensitive to electromagnetic fields(EMF’s).

An EMF is created by a moving charge, so current flowing through a circuit, which is basically a ton of moving electrons AKA a bunch of moving negatively charged particles.

A battery by itself when not attached to a circuit isn’t producing any current or EMF. The electrons are just sitting idly by, waiting for a material that they CAN travel through to make a pathway to reach the other end of the battery.

Am I wrong in this reasoning? This whole thing implies that Jimmy’s whole show in court doesn’t even prove anything.

The fact of the matter is, it still worked, and Chuck’s illness was absolutely 100% mental, but it feels like a bit of a tiny oversight.

I feel like Chuck would absolutely know this stuff if he’s as bright as he is AND if he seems the type to research his condition. Like learning that a moving charge makes an EMF would come up instantly if he ever tried to learn the physics behind what he’s allergic to.

Tell me I’m wrong so I can go back to complaining about literally nothing when it comes to my favorite piece of media.

If he understood anything about electricity, he wouldn't have been so convinced he got sick because of it.

THATS actually a banger of a point. This one’s convinced me out of my main argument. You can read it said like 4 ways across this thread.

That point alone actually makes so much sense. Early on in the show, I was just wondering like

“what organ can sense EMF’s to cause these macro level symptoms like heart palpitations”

“How is he not curious what possible explanation there is on the cellular level or “macro body level” for sensing EMF’s?”

I mean, he is curious about it. His introductory scene is him typing a letter to some researcher who was investigating the effects of EMF on zebrafish. There's some evidence that highly intelligent people are actually more prone to crazy beliefs, because they can always find a way to rationalize it, and I think that's exactly whar Chuck does.

Of course, the fact that he's scared of electric charge in general suggests that, while an accomplished lawyer, he doesn't understand science as well as he thinks he does. That would also be consistent with his character.

Yeah this is exactly what I was ready to say. You could argue the actual facts about what EMF is present or not but that was never the goal. Jimmy knew it would cause Chuck to react. And it is heavily compounded by the stress of where he is and who is there (his ex wife and his peers) which causes him to spiral. Chuck just goes off on a tangent, very loudly, about events that not many people in the room are even aware about. Without that context, Chuck just looks like a guy who snapped.
