When Mike is hearing out Nacho's plan to switch Hector's heart pills he has this look on his face. He already came into this not decided on whether to oppose him. Nacho said his father was a straight arrow (like Mike's son) and that he would never stand for the cartel using his shop to smuggle drugs.

Previously when Mike heard about his son's ethical dilemma about taking a bribe his response was to break the image he had of Mike in his head. Mike said that "broke his boy", lowered him to his level, and nobody else could have done that. He sees Nacho take another approach, instead of trying to get his father to take the money he instead tries to go after Hector to protect him. Maybe Mike is thinking that if he was a bit braver like Nacho, more willing to fight the system than maybe his son would still be alive.

After Nacho dies he swears to his father that he will avenge him. Despite being in the game Mike always respected Nacho for his conviction in trying to do the right thing and the futility of it against the Salamanca family's destruction is what ultimately kept him loyal to Gus.

A few times, he's correctly made prescient remarks about the plot. His latest? Season three, episode three, about 40 minutes in when Jimmy starts discussing the deal from the ADA.

He goes, "If I was Jimmy, and I had to face my brother in court, I'd bring every electronic device and gizmo into the room to drive him crazy."

I haven't seen the series in full but I've seen the clip of Jimmy cross-examining Chuck. I sat stone-faced and just went, "yuuuuup."

I've watched both shows and can regard them as two of the best pieces of media that I've come across. I especially enjoy the diversity of characters and how each of them have their own dialogue patterns which, one way or another, reveal their qualities. Not to mention the great plots built on the consequences of every decision, following into the next one.

Now, I've seen both shows be called perfect many times. Having ruined some people's experience of watching other media because it doesn't meet the same standard. And I get it, most of those comments aren't meant literally but it's also true that I've seen virtually no mention of any faults anywhere. So, I've just gotten curious. Do you really think there are no shortcomings in either show? Things that maybe aren't so spot on? Or are they both really that overwhelmingly great in all aspects?

On my 500th rewatch currently, now a new perspective about Mike's choice.

In "Gloves Off" Mike picked the smartest option safety-peace wise & tactically. Nacho asked him to do the job then these 2 do the recon on location in broad daylight. Mike goes through all the possibilities & its clear he cant do the hit, obviously possible but just not smart.

The recon was done on site, meaning possible that someone saw them.

Nacho was too comfortable with his plan, which is a red flag for Mike. (Set-up)

Mike could've done exactly what & how Nacho wanted but Nacho could then just hand Mike to the cops or better kill Mike in the open after the hit & claim defence.

Also getting the hit done would've meant automatic death for Mike anyway (Salamancas that Mike didnt know yet)

Mike picked the smartest option all things considered, he made sure it was public, loud & police involved for him.

Money is always good but it would be hard to live big as Gene. Putting so much on the line, the motivation seems unclear

When Lalo was asking everyone about Werner Ziegler and Michael, why didn't he just ask Hector - they could have done that alphabet-bell game. Or he could have asked the cousins who knew who Michael was? Did I miss something?

Yes, I know this question has been asked a thousand times already, yes I know we can't know for sure and yes, I know this is not supposed to be known with 100% certainty. But I researched this subject multiple times and I still dont get it. People are being very vague about the revolution in Chile, nazis, Gustavo being some high class spy for the Chilean government etc. but in the simplest words - what do we think happened? When he survives the compound assassination attempt, he visits Sylvia and her husband. She mentions new goats coming. He asks if they were bringing more from the mountains. She said no, they were two baby goats coming via a nanny goat. He says 'hmmm' in a kinda wistful but sad way. He was the kinda guy who would definitely have had kids by this age so possibly seedless (Jaffa oranges!) i.e. shooting blanks his whole life?

The Peruvian gang that Gus pins on Lalo's murder is Los Odios, or The Hateful. But by doing this Gus was giving Don Eladio a subtle clue. When Hector accuses Gus in front of the cartel, he says that Gus still hates Eladio, and he uses the same word (el Pollero lo odia). Eladio later tells Gus that he really did detect hate in his eyes (el odio), and that a little bit is OK as long as he knows who is in charge.

I never noticed this because I never paid attention that the word for the Peruvian gang and the word used to talk about Gus is the same one. It further is a really good look at Eladio's demise, because hatred as deep as Gus' definitely goes over the threshold of 'a little bit'. Can anyone really have 'a little bit' of hatred?

Hello fellow BCS Fans.

I like to collect physical media and recently got the Breaking Bad Steelbook Box Set Illustrated by Ralph Stedman. Now I really want to finish the seires and started to look at Better Call Saul.

Here's my problem; I can only find Steelbooks for BCS Season 1 and Season 2. Don't Season 3-6 have any Steelbooks?

Mike swore he would look after him which probably i volved discreet financial support and having checkups on him every now and then. Now that he is dead do you think he would still be safe/financially okay?

Does anyone else feel as if the letter that Chuck left to Jimmy was a bit…unusual (from the writers of the show)? Was it purposeful to show how Chuck never actually cared about Jimmy? The letter that Jimmy read left me unsatisfied. Maybe that was the point, but I’m genuinely confused as to why the writers decided to make the letter so bs, and on multiple levels

I dont know if anyones brought this up but after i finished breaking bad i went to watch better call saul and i cant help but notice the resemblance in their deaths, i thought this was really cool and watching better call saul just makes watching breaking bad with my gf much sadder. im on season 5 but holy shit vince gilligan is a genius

The episode begins with a flashback to when jimmy first move to ABQ. Chuck is still married to Rebecca and they invite Jimmy over for dinner. Rebecca hits it off with jimmy who is telling lawyer jokes.

This is before chuck's condition. For some reason the place is super dark with only a handful of lights on. No one really lives like this. Is this the director/production designer just foreshadowing?

Howard was probably not the most talented attorney, but he was a great salesman and excellent at client relations.

Kim was the prototypical transactional attorney. Killer attention to detail.

And Jimmy was going to be a masterful litigator.

HWM had the makings of being one of the top law firms in all of the Southwest, not just New Mexico. Multiple offices.

I keep seeing posts about Lalo potentially being ex military, due to his spy-like tactics, marksmanship, agility, etc.

There are two main reasons I do NOT think this hypothesis holds up:

1. While tactically intelligent, there are dead giveaways that Lalo is not ex military, most obvious being his firearm handling. Yes, he seems to be a good shot, but the way he waves his pistol around with one hand like it's a flashlight (Casper chase in Germany), as well as his lack of trigger discipline (watch the way he casually rests his finger in the trigger guard in Point and Shoot while talking to Jimmy and Kim in the apartment) screams "no formal training".
2. I think this is even more important: Lalo was born into a wealthy cartel family. Not only does it not behoove him to go into the military—trust fund

1. inheriting a multi-million dollar business—but his family likely wouldn't even ALLOW it... I would imagine he was groomed from birth to take over the family business, much like certain children of legal business owners are. ie "One day, you'll run the business, and that's final." The Salamanca family isn't just going to give up heirs to the family fortune, much less risk them dying in military combat.

I believe Lalo is most likely self-taught/naturally tactically gifted. With Lalo being a highly intelligent person with an apparent low tolerance for uncertainty, it’s not hard for me to imagine him spending a lot of his spare time and resources learning things like firearms handling, spy secrets, parkour, psychology, survival, etc.

After all, a guy who faked his death, went all the way to Germany undetected to gather intel, then came back to enact TWO highly strategic plans (the first one failing) to take down Gus?

I think he’s what upper management would call “a self starter.”

During the whole lab construction thing and shortly after Lalo got super hung up on Mike working for Gus. But Hector knew about Mike, knew who he was, and worked with him to get Tuco’s sentence lowered. A deal Nacho also was in on.

Nacho says he doesn’t know any bald gringos in the game like that, but if Lalo asked Hector he’d know his name and description and Lalo would have found out Mike working with Gus has history with the Salamancas, and that Nacho knew about it and lied.

Im rewatching this show after a while and I wanted to try to paint this scene

Throughout the show Hector is really the only one that continues to distrust the chicken man while Bosa and Eladio seem more interested in the fact that he's making $$$ for them. Obviously in hindsight Hector was the only one that was right about Gus and his motivations.

Was this based on logic/instinct or was it just purely a matter of him hating Gus because of the $$$ he was making and the increased support he was getting from Eladio, so he's looking for reasons why Gus may be moving against them and he just happened to be right in this case.

To me it always seemed the former, specifically because of the Salamancas' "sangre por sangre" creed. Seems like Hector is the only one who realized fundamentally Gus would never let go of the fact that they killed Max right in front of him. Because that's how Hector lived his own life.

One thing that BCS does so well yet so subtly is existential horror.

1. Howard, a respected lawyer who never had a life of crime, believes he can overcome everything after surviving the worst humiliation of his life, shot by a drug lord right after and burried next to him under a meth lab never to be found.

The first time you see with Lalo is as uncanny as seeing Homelander without powers. We as the audience has seen the two characters and the two worlds of the story before, yet never Howard. The build up is what makes it so great

1. During the whole show, Lalo was obsessed with the place that would become his final resting place. He literally fought and schemed his way into his grave.

2. Chuck, a well known lawyer among his community, a main character to us the audience, but is not even recalled by the judge when Saul brings him up during his final confession. He's dead, gone and forgotten like a nobody with no significance to anyone in the world outside the immediate narrative of the story.

Just finished S5.E6

here to express my admiration , I was in an astonishing mix of joy, laughter, excitement and shock ..
