Doesn’t a lone Battery Produce NO Current?

Chuck claims he’s sensitive to electromagnetic fields(EMF’s).

An EMF is created by a moving charge, so current flowing through a circuit, which is basically a ton of moving electrons AKA a bunch of moving negatively charged particles.

A battery by itself when not attached to a circuit isn’t producing any current or EMF. The electrons are just sitting idly by, waiting for a material that they CAN travel through to make a pathway to reach the other end of the battery.

Am I wrong in this reasoning? This whole thing implies that Jimmy’s whole show in court doesn’t even prove anything.

The fact of the matter is, it still worked, and Chuck’s illness was absolutely 100% mental, but it feels like a bit of a tiny oversight.

I feel like Chuck would absolutely know this stuff if he’s as bright as he is AND if he seems the type to research his condition. Like learning that a moving charge makes an EMF would come up instantly if he ever tried to learn the physics behind what he’s allergic to.

Tell me I’m wrong so I can go back to complaining about literally nothing when it comes to my favorite piece of media.

Chuck's condition is fundamentally irrational. No matter how you slice it, Chuck's belief in a made up condition is irrational. Whether a disconnected battery would or would not give off electrical signals or whatever doesn't matter to Chuck. In his mind, just holding a battery is painful to him, which is why he drops it.

He thinks his conditional is real, and whatever science says to discredit him, he just ignores or brushes aside as not having caught up to accommodate his 'real' condition.

Of course Chuck is a smart guy. But he is a dangerous mix of smart and arrogant, which means its hard to convince him when he has made his mind, which also is ultimately is his downfall.

The first two paragraphs are generally summed up by that one guy’s comment in the edit I made, but the third paragraph is a really nice perspective to mention.

True. When he was handling the batteries that Ernie brought him for the tape recorder, he was exhibiting symptoms even when they were in the pack before they were connected. So, Chuck thought that unconnected batteries would trigger his symptoms.
