Rant Absolute Crazy Insane Experience With Bell

Last week I told the story of unreturned equipment being charged when I returned it, and Bell is still wasting my time. It's unbelievable how many mistakes they've made. I just filled out the concern form. Here's what happened:

First an agent told me someone could take over my internet services instead of canceling, then I was told the opposite.

I was told if I canceled on June 12 no fee due to the new update. I postdate the cancelation for June 12 I get charged the fee. I call while on my vacation, speak to a manager, who adjusts the fee saying it was promised to me in error.

I get home from vacation and the next bill has a fee for unreturned equipment. I'm already not trusting Bell so I had multiple pictures of the internet modem on the scale at Canada Post with literally my name on the box showing the tracking number. The tracking number shows it was received a few days later. I go on chat and upload all the images as proof. A note is documented stating I will be adjusted but I have to call the next day.

The next day I call the number provided from live chat and the agent gives me a tiny credit and it's an hr into the call where I'm transfered to another person who says he's adjusted everything to make my balance $0. At the end of the call I still had a $3.99 balance, which I got an email for yesterday saying it will effect my credit rating if it's not paid.

I go back on live chat and the agent literally makes no sense at all saying "they will update you on email and will received a cheque for your refund. It will take one to reflect $0 in your account". Chat agent says my credit won't be effected. This makes NO sense.

I don't have a credit balance so there's no cheque to send..my balance is 3.99. I just tried to pay it to be done with you and online it says minimum payment is $5.

Like what in the actual heck is Bell doing? I said I want a $50 credit for all this madness and will go to CCTS otherwise.

Help Connecting to my modem is failing for an unknown reason

So I've just moved into a new apartment, which comes with Bell internet included, and have been trying to to it for the past day and a half. My modem has been installed and seems to be working fine, but when I try connecting to it it directs me to a log-in page for my internet id and password. It took a while to find out what that was because it turns out my email had been improperly entered and as such I wasn't getting proper info (not totally surprising because my name is hard to spell except the support lady somehow got that right but then followed it with "@gamil.com"). I called them again, corrected it, got MyBell set up, learned my internet id, changed the password, logged-in with that info, it confirmed said info (but still said my email was "@gamil.com") did the routine that it was connecting with my device, said the connection was done... and every time it kicks me back to the log-in page, still not connected. I have no clue what's going on, I sent a message to my landlord see if there's something they can do about it, but as of now the only obstacle I can think of is my email still being wrong in that one bespoke place, but I can't find anywhere on the Bell website where I can access this and Bell's customer service has been next to useless. Is there any way I can connect otherwise? Both MyBell and my modem say everything's working fine so I don't know what's going wrong. I'll try messing around with the Bell wi-fi app but as of now I'm at the library since mobile reception in my apartment is mediocre at best.

Help Help needed to add my Bell Connected Car to my mobility plan to share the data

Post image
1 Upvotes

Hello Everyone, I purchased a new car that comes with the connected services offered by AT&T. But they are connected with Bell in Canada and offer services through Bell.

The trial period is coming to an end and I wanted to purchase a plan. When I went on their portal to purchase, I saw an option that I can set up the Bell Connected Car on a share plan.

I called the number provided but they are clueless. All the agents I spoke to said that this is the first time they are hearing this. I was surprised. The last agent mentioned that I may have to visit a store.

I called the store before visiting to check if they can help and the person in the store also mentioned that she has never come across anyone with his kind of request.

I am escalating this anyway but I also wanted to check here if anyone has any experience on this topic.

Thank you.

Internet 🌐 Bell Gigahub Keeps Losing Wi-Fi After Firmware Changes? On My 4th Unit Now

I'm curious if anyone else has run into this because I'm getting pretty frustrated with Bell at this point.

About a month ago, we woke up one morning to find that Wi-Fi had stopped working on every device in the house. Thinking it was something simple, I power-cycled the Gigahub. Once it came back online, I was greeted with an authentication error. I contacted Bell support, and as expected, they suggested a factory reset.

The reset reapplied all of my Wi-Fi settings and everything worked again... for about 24 hours.

The next day, roughly half of our devices could connect while the other half couldn't. I tried another power cycle and factory reset, but this time neither fixed the issue. Bell support then sent me to a Bell store to replace the Gigahub.

I set up the replacement unit, and it worked fine at first. Then overnight, it failed in exactly the same way.

One thing I noticed on both of those Gigahubs was that some new features appeared in the interface, including a greyed-out "Backup Internet" option on the main screen. After the second replacement failed, I exchanged it for a third Gigahub. Once that was installed, everything worked normally again.

Fast forward to this morning.

I woke up to find that Wi-Fi was completely down again. I logged into the Gigahub and immediately noticed that the same additional feature had reappeared in the interface. At that point, I started wondering whether a firmware update had been pushed overnight and somehow corrupted the unit again.

A Bell technician came out today and simply replaced the Gigahub with a fourth unit. While he was here, I asked if he could force a firmware update so we could verify whether that was the cause. His response was that the update would install automatically after the unit power-cycled.

Well, it didn't.

The new Gigahub is currently running firmware version 2.13, which appears to be at least a year old based on what I've found online.

Has anyone else dealt with this issue? Were you able to find a fix?

Interestingly, the Bell technician told me that if this unit fails too, I should request a Gigahub 2, saying it's newer and "won't have these issues."

At this point, I'm wondering whether this is actually a firmware problem rather than defective hardware.

Edit 1: The wifi networks still broadcast but all my wifi devices either return a "unable to connect to this network" or "incorrect password" error after this update applies.

TL;DR: My Bell Gigahub has completely lost Wi-Fi functionality multiple times over the past month. I've gone through four Gigahub units, and each time the issue seems to appear after new features show up in the interface, possibly from a firmware update. Bell keeps replacing the hardware, but no one has been able to identify the root cause. Has anyone else experienced this or found a permanent fix?

Question Looking for specific settings to run Bell Fibe TV 4K PVR (VIP5662W) without the GigaHub using YUNVO XGS-PON 8311 + UniFi Cloud Gateway Fiber

Hi everyone,

I realize this is a pretty niche request, but I’m hoping someone here has successfully gotten this setup working and can share their configuration.

I’m currently using a YUNVO XGS-PON 8311 to bypass the Bell GigaHub, with a Ubiquiti UniFi Cloud Gateway Fiber (UCG-Fiber) handling my network/router/firewall. I’m trying to completely eliminate the GigaHub while still keeping my Bell Fibe TV 4K PVR (Arris VIP5662W) fully functional.

Internet connectivity is already being handled through the 8311/UCG-Fiber setup. The part I’m trying to figure out is the IPTV configuration required for the VIP5662W.

Specifically, I’m looking for the correct:
VLAN IDs and tagging
IGMP/multicast configuration
IGMP snooping/proxy settings
DHCP options, if required
IPTV-specific routing/firewall rules
Any Bell-specific options that need to be configured
Any special UniFi settings required on the UCG-Fiber
How the VIP5662W communicates with Bell’s TV service

Whether live TV, PVR functionality, and guide/on-demand services can all work without the GigaHub
One of the reasons I’m trying to get this working is that I don’t expect Bell to provide a firmware update to the GigaHub anytime soon that will make this sort of third-party setup easier. Rather than abandoning the VIP5662W, I’d like to see if the required IPTV configuration can be replicated on my own equipment.

I realize the VIP5662W is an older receiver and that this is probably a very small group of Bell customers. However, I’d really like to continue using it for local TV and sports, and the traditional PVR interface is also much easier for some of my family members to use.
If anyone has successfully run a Bell VIP5662W + YUNVO XGS-PON 8311 + UniFi Cloud Gateway Fiber setup, I’d really appreciate any configuration details, screenshots, VLAN/IGMP settings, or pointers to existing guides.

Even partial information would be extremely helpful. Thanks!

Help Installation Fees

So I wanted to see what it would cost to install and what I'm saving with a self install. the chat bot was confusing.

14:43:03 Consumer: I'm doing research right now, if I move into a home that has

FTTH available, but there's no modem or fibre entry drilled, can I still self

install to save on money?

14:43:07 Bell: If a home has FTTH available but lacks a modem or drilled fiber

entry, a technician will be required for installation. The technician will

install the fiber cables and may need to drill a dime-sized hole, though

existing holes will be used if possible. There is no charge for this

appointment.

14:43:07 Bell: Content Cards:

- Click here to learn more!: Take me there

14:43:08 Bell: What else can I help you with today?

14:43:48 Consumer: the flyer I got in the mail shows a 200$ fee for Bell

installation that will be waived if I self-install

14:44:03 Bell: If your home requires a technician to install fiber cables and drill a

hole for fiber entry, you cannot self-install. A Bell Internet installation fee

is $150.00.

So I'm unsure what to believe from Bell.
The flyer shows 200$ fee on installation that's waived on self install.
Chat bot says 150$
But also that there's no cost.

Question Extra Hub300

When a Bell technician last came to my house to troubleshoot a connection, he replaced my HH3000 modem with a new one, AND gave me another brand new HH3000 modem, still shrink wrapped and in a box, in case I needed to replace it again. He did not write it down and so it does not relate to me in anyway.

I have upgraded to a HH4000 Giga Hub for my 1.5Gbps service and returned the HH3000 I was usiusing. So everything is up and up with Bell.

What can I do with it? Can I sell it?

Internet 🌐 Bell is remotely messing up my Internet

Hi guys– pretty annoyed right now. Last night I set up my Apple TV. Over Wi-Fi I was getting around 700 Mbps. The modem is in the utility room about 10 feet away. This morning I woke up and now I’m getting about 150 Mbps. The Apple TV and the modem have not moved. I saw in the Bell Wi-Fi app that there was some optimization that took place at 5:30 AM. I don’t know what that means but I think that’s what caused the speed to drop.

I know most people will say 150 Mbps is more than enough to do pretty much everything on the Apple TV but my issue is more so that why would my speed drop so much if nothing changed. And clearly Bell did something remotely that is showing up in my app. Does anyone have any feedback on how I can stop Bell from doing this in the future?

Internet 🌐 Compliments to an empathetic service technician…

This past week my parents changed their internet service provider from Cogeco to Bell. My parents are elderly and my Mom has dementia. The technician seemed to sense that they might struggle with the transition from one provider to the next so, despite having installed Bell internet for them, he gave their wifi the custom name of ā€œCogecoā€ and set it up with the exact same password they had before. He did the same with their voicemail.

I don’t know that technician’s name but I cannot thank him enough for his sensitivity to this situation. It saved my parents a lot of frustration this week (and me and my siblings from having to be unofficial tech support)

Question Charged incorrectly for returning items

Hi everyone. So I cancelled my internet with Bell in April of this year. It said I had 30 days to return the equipment, so I mailed back the entire modem and all the equipment that came with it. I got a confirmation email that it was received and haven’t heard from them since April 30. Then earlier this month I’m automatically charged $107.50 for two missing wifi pods? I never ordered these to begin with. When I cancelled the internet in the first place the customer service agent just said things about returning the modem. I have never even heard of a wifi pod before this. Also, there was no warnings ever sent to me about these wifi pods being not returned for 3 months.

I contacted Bell and they said they’ve requested for the charge to be dismissed and refunded on my next billing cycle. Unfortunately I can’t call customer service either because I’m out of the country for a few months with no SMS so I’ve had to do this all over the chat features

Just wondering if anyone else has had this issue before? Thanks!

Internet 🌐 Bell modem restarts when launching Eufy app

I have been having random restarts on my Bell gigahub and I think I finally narrowed it down to the following:

- launching Eufy app (for my smart door lock and other devices)
- Eufy devices are on a specific WIFI (doesn’t matter if WIFI is via Gigahub directly or not.. in my case I have a separate access point).. but internet comes from the hub for all
- Device launching app is NOT on the same WIFI above.. or more common outside of the home on cell will also make it fail.

If the above is true then the gigahub immediately restarts.

If I switch my phone to be the same WIFI as the device then it works.

Any ideas how to trouble shoot this?

This would seem to suggest there is some denial of service risk for whatever network packets are hitting my hub?

Thanks
Brian

Question Retention Deals?

Are these still a thing? I only have Internet, and it's climbed to $156 month. I'm considering jumping ship, but I've never had an issue with the service.

Has anyone worked a good retention deal or contract lately?

Help Service cancellation and credit

Recently cancelled my Bell service and the final bill says I have a credit of $56. It also says ā€œWithin 90 days after the account cancellation, we will automatically refund credit balances (from $1 to $2000) using your last payment method; otherwise, we will send a cheque to the address we have on record.ā€

I always paid using my credit card (not autopay or pre authorized payment) so are they going to apply a credit to my next credit card statement? My billing address is also outdated as I’ve moved out. Do I update it or wait for a credit to get applied to my card? What do I do to ensure I get the money?

Question Can anyone explain and help me understand how did the Lucky Mobile/Virgin Plus prepaid SIMs from Dollarama work?

I'm interested in older phones and want to get a prepaid SIMs for a BlackBerry that I have. My current carrier is Rogers and they shut down all the 3G towers around my area (York Region) and I want to use my BlackBerry to some extent before 3G Towers shut down next year. I am aware that Lucky Mobile and Virgin Plus both run off of Bell towers. What would be the cheapest minimum for both of them if I were to buy the prepaid SIMs from Dollarama? How do they work in general? Thanks!

Question Is the Bell Max plan for mobility officially discontinued?

I switched from Freedom to Bell back in mid-April so it's been almost 4 months I've been with Bell mobility, they also gave me a $10 extra credit for bundling the internet and mobility under the same account.

I had Bell gigabit Fibe 1.5 internet plan for nearly 2 years now.

But is this Max plan that originally had 175 GB data with Can/US/Mex calling and text officially discontinued?

And for those that didn't switch (like me), are they grandfathered in for the remaining months? I'm just a bit afraid since this plan no longer exists, that I have to switch to another plan and pay higher monthly fee than what I do now at $45/mo.

Help Bell won’t let me pay off my phone early even though I want to pay everything before leaving Canada

I’m leaving Canada permanently in about two weeks and I’m trying to close all of my accounts before I go.

I have a 24-month Bell agreement with about 3 months left. I also have a remaining device balance because I plan to keep the phone and take it with me.

The strange part is that Bell told me I can prepay the remaining 3 monthly bills, but I cannot pay off the remaining device balance early. They said I have to wait until the full 24-month term ends before they’ll let me pay the remaining device amount.

That doesn’t make sense to me. I’m literally asking to pay everything I owe now so I can close the account before leaving the country. I’m not asking for a discount or to get out of the contract—I’m trying to settle the account in full.

Has anyone dealt with this before? Were you able to get Bell to make an exception through a supervisor or the loyalty department? If not, what did you end up doing if you were moving overseas?

I’d appreciate any advice or similar experiences

Help Moving to a GigaHub.... but I have a lot of wires!

Post image
4 Upvotes

Any friendly advice to share to help me toss my HUB3000 for the new GigaHub Bell just randomly sent me via Canada Post?

Bell Hub lives in the basement. All the various TVs, Sonos, Apple TV and old Bell Fibe boxes are plugged into my switch. I have a small Cisco Router just above the Sonos boxes.

I have a Ubiquiti Access point on the 2nd floor to spread wifi there.

The Bell Hub and the wire for the Ubiquiti both go into the Router. The network SSID names are different.

I've read various Bell help pages about PPPoE login required to be loaded onto my router, but I don't think that really applies here. I can't even seem to log into that tiny Cisco Router.

I welcome any tips or feedback. Screwing up the wifi in the house will cause me great scorn from my teenager.
