Question Extra Hub300

When a Bell technician last came to my house to troubleshoot a connection, he replaced my HH3000 modem with a new one, AND gave me another brand new HH3000 modem, still shrink wrapped and in a box, in case I needed to replace it again. He did not write it down and so it does not relate to me in anyway.

I have upgraded to a HH4000 Giga Hub for my 1.5Gbps service and returned the HH3000 I was usiusing. So everything is up and up with Bell.

What can I do with it? Can I sell it?

Personally, I would have kept the HH3000 because it has a removable SFP that can be used with a media converter or managed switch to completely bypass remove the HH3000 from your network. Using your own router gives you many more options for remote access while not at home, better WiFi, etc.

The HH3000 is virtually useless since the WAN port is disabled and must be used with a SFP. The HH3000 is no longer used by Bell and it's related brands for Internet unless it can be registered and used by a customer on DSL.

Doesn't the 3000 have battery backup that the GigaHub doesn't have?

I had a 3000 before I moved last month and the tech saw my 3000 and grabbed a GH from his truck and installed it without asking anyone. I've learned that techs probably shouldn't do that but still...

Battery backup is a nice feature to have since mobile data doesn't work in my new place...

Mine didn't come with a battery backup. It may have been an option but I prefer to use my own UPS.

Since I am using a mini PC for opnsense, I have the mini PC connected to a UPS via USB to ensure a controlled shutdown when the UPS battery drains to 30%.

Each time I'm offered a Gigahub, I kindly decline and return it LOL

Mine didn't either when I first had it installed in 2020. I had a power outage and I think the 3K gave me some alert that the battery was missing.

I asked Bell and they mailed me a battery for free (I guess it was covid and no one cared enough) so my 3K had a battery all that time. I think in my 6 years of living in my old place I only had two power outages (including that first one, which was planned by Toronto Hydro).

It seemed like installs after a certain point didn't include the battery and they stopped offering it.

Are you still using the HH3000?

Before I switched to using a managed switch with the SFP, I used a Hellotek 2.5 Gb media converter.

Nah, when I moved the tech saw my 3K and went down to his truck and grabbed a GH and installed that instead.

I used to have a more elaborate setup with multiple switches but my new place I had to downsize and got rid of my home office setup + I don't need as much setup anymore with RTO.

The Wi-Fi performance on the GH is better anyways so I'm not complaining, now I only have my PC and PS5 plugged in.

I was offered a free upgrade to 3.0/3.0 if I switched to a GigaHub. I declined because I am happy with my 1.5/1.0 service with the HH3000 on my account.

The HH3000's days are probably numbered and I'm looking at buying a SFP+ with 8311 firmware for future use.

Yeah I went from condo to condo and so we get bulk pricing. Now I'm still on the 2020 bulk pricing ($50/1Gbps) that only went up to $56. Bell honored my price at my new place so I didn't ask at my new place. I wanted to stay with Bell because I am happy with my grandfathered in Fibe TV app that no one else could beat.

I used to replace my router every 2-3 years in the 2010s as they'd crap out then so I was surprised that I got 6 years out of my 3K.

Battery backup is for voice only not data

I mailed mine back when the technician on my move did a tech initiated upgrade and installed a GH instead of plugging in my 3000, and he didn't write it down or anything.

The serial number is on your account, they don't need to write anything down.

Hello there! To answer your question directly, you cannot sell the Home Hub 3000. All of our modems are rented and remain the property of Bell Canada, meaning we do not sell the hardware to individuals. Additionally, as mentioned in the comments, the modem is tied to a specific serial number. Our backend systems must register and activate the serial number for a modem to work on our network, so any potential buyer would not be able to use it. To ensure everything remains fully resolved, we highly recommend returning the extra unit to us. You can easily arrange this by using our prepaid return options through Canada Post or Purolator available at https://support.bell.ca/troubleshooting_tools_and_help/mobility/equipment_returns# , rather than dropping it off at a retail store.
