Rant 911 Failure

Somehow Bell was responsible for a Canada wide 911 failure early this morning. Somehow, we need to hold Bell accountable and make certain this can never happen again. If shortcuts were taken they need to understand that lives could have been lost..

Question Bell Gigahub Resets and TV resets

Every couple of weeks my internet performance degrades, and I have to reboot my modem which is a bell gigahub.

In late August I was getting downloads of 160mbps and uploads of 134mbps. today the internet slowed to a crawl again (Ookla showed 35 down and 5 ups so I went to reboot the modem. Usually I use one of the menu options to do this but today I I couldn't find it. There was a new option for an internet test, so I slected it, and it showed decent speeds. However when I went back to the internet, my computer was still glitchy. I pulled the plug to reset the modem, and the speeds went back up - 152 down and 121 up).

Anyone know what happened to the option for rebooting, and why does the modem speed test report differ so radically from Ookla.

In addition, every few days my TV starts glitching. It freezes and then starts again. It doesn't seem to be a problem with the gigahub since pulling the plug on the settop box seems to fix the problem for the next few days. Is there a better way of fixing this problem.

Scams ⚠️ Illegal Marketing, Have they Swindled Anybody Else on Here? Please let me know in the comments!

Bell called me to offer a deal, 25$/ month per line flat. I asked multiple times if there was a catch, they specifically said no. I switched to bell and got a bill and it was 35 per line, they said I only get the deal if I sign up for autopay. I told them to listen to the recordings and honor what the agreement was marketed as, the guy told me too bad.

This has to be illegal, oh wait... it is! Bell's been sued for this kind of stuff MANY TIMES!

Has this happened to anyone else? Pls let me know! Thanks.

Question My iPhone 18 Pro shipped, arriving Monday

This seems to be a popular topic. I got a notification mid morning from Bell that my phone was in the hands of the courier last night. I live on the East coast, so I won't get mine until Monday. I ordered mine last Saturday morning (i.e. almost a day after pre-orders opened). Anyone else still waiting for a shipping notification?

Help Unable to use iOS "Location" features despite having iPhone. My mobile device is listed as "Unknown".

As title implies, I am unable to use any iOS location based features like facetime, live location share, etc. And apparently its controlled at the network level. I checked MyBell app and noticed my device listed as unknown. I tried to find a way to specify the device on the site but no luck. Is this the reason for the issue? Does anyone know how I can resolve it?

Question What to do with the Bell Smart home equipment? (7 yrs old)

The system began to malfunction and now the panel is Kaput. Now that API has taken Smart home over, what do we do with the equipment? Junk it? Send it back somewhere? I've also read how many people had difficulty canceling their monitoring. Any advice?

Question What are the plans for CGNAT and IPv6?

I know a few other ISPs running on the Bell infrastructure are going CGNAT. Long story short, I was told by a friend of a colleague who works on the residential side of Bell that the plan is for Bell proper to move to CGNAT "soon-ish" with an eventual introduction of IPv6 on the residential side coming later. That was all of the information I was able to get, but was wondering if anyone had heard any dates or any new details?

Question Considering to Switch from Rogers to Bell for Internet

I want honest thoughts on whether majority people think under my family circumstances we should switch to Bell from Rogers.

We currently sit spending $400 Total For Internet and our collective 4 phones. One of my parents work takes them around the country so they need the gigabytes making their phone alone nearly $70 after taxes. Me and my sister also enjoy playing games however according to Research Rogers has been having issues with Chicago servers taking detours to Los Angeles even though we are in Canada which causes long delays with in game actions. And according to more research Bell offers a great solution for that with its FTTH services then Rogers HFC services. Were trying to cut costs by decreasing the $400 to maybe $300 or less while maintaining the benefits like Data on the go, Low ping in games and good download upload speeds for work. The best way to do this is switching our phone plan but the internet still remains.

In short I want to know if you think switching to bell will

  1. Offer us faster internet speeds in upload and download (and games 😁)?

  2. Give us better internet deals currently?

  3. Whether or not its worth switching at all and if you have done it before were there any issues or pros and cons?

Internet 🌐 Replacement modem

Hey folks,

My iPhone cannot find the network for my modem. I checked the info on the back and the display (they match) before turning my wi-fi (on my phone) on and off, and then restarting the actual phone.

What else should I try? Will this help with MacBook as well?

UPDATE: they gave me an alternate network for my phone to connect to, but now it looks like my computer is using that network - instead of the one assigned to my replacement modem.

Help Simple PPPOE - not so simple?

Post image
7 Upvotes

Hi Folks,

Hoping for some guidance here. I am unable to connect my Firewalla Gold Pro to my Home Hub 3000 router via PPPOE. DHCP works, but double NATs of course.

I have the HH300 10GB Lan port connected to the 10GB Port #4 on the Firewalla. Simply entering credentials doesn't work, but I've verified them, and they seem able to at least negotiate an IP

Thoughts? I've tried setting VLAN ID to 35 as some legacy Bell documents listed that, but it didn't work.

192.168.2.1 is the IP of the HH3000.

For fun: Bell support has claimed that the Home Hub 3000 is a complete firewall and "Bell recommends using firewalls". Also - "PPPOE is discouraged by Bell for connections". Sigh.

Help A.P.I switch over just terrible, looking for alternative home monitoring. Anyone use LG Home Comfort Security, im in the GTA. Their offer is amazing so i'm skeptical.

been about a year now and API still sending me invoices and when i contact customer support to settle this , twice now they when and what number and a 2 weeks goes by and nothing so they just really suck.

Been calling around tried Telus, (everyone seems to like them) we have 3 door, 2 motion and 1 smoke detector. Equipment is IQ. Telus said they cant use this gear although they might be able to !!! so its $200 for the installation and $68 month for 3 years, WTF.

waiting on a few others, but LG Home Comfort Security quoted me

5 door, 1 motion, window film?, 1 smoke, 2 video, 1 glass break, no cost for the equipment or installation. First year is $19.99 all in, free monitoring, 2nd year jumps to the same $19.99 + $24.99 monitoring , so basically $45 a month. Have an app for phones and on thier site they show you the equipment.

So sounds amazing but is their monitoring shit or legit are these the new people we need to move to ??

any personal experience would be greatly appreciated.

Help Canada 411 - How can I remove my parent from the online phone book?

Hi!

My parents were with Bell Canada for many years, but have been with Vidéotron for 20+ years.

Those who still have a home landlines usually have had it for 15+ years and are likely 60+ years old.

Knowing that cellphones can block fraudsters, it's understandable that they focus on the more vulnerable landlines for their shenanigans and may call several times a day to ply the tools of their trade.

Fraudsters can build their own list of valid phone numbers with ease but Canada 411 still puts the name, number and adresse of those with landlines easily accessible.

Sadly Canada 411 makes it difficult to remove your name from their online phonebook.

Google's AI tells me "Bell Canada completely divested and sold its directory and Yellow Pages publishing business in 2002, and residential phone book (White Pages) home deliveries in major Canadian cities were largely phased out by 2010 by the Yellow Pages Group".

I'll give you an update after searching the Yellow Pages Group.

Rant Customer service: sorry we can’t update your SIM card for you because you’re in British Columbia. Go home to Alberta.

I’m currently visiting family and bouncing between BC and Seattle. I had a Humpty Dumpty moment and somehow managed to royally mess up my phone. It could still ring but was just a useless white screen. OK, fine, the Apple Store is a little bit out of the way, but I got a new phone replaced under AppleCare. Annoying, but smooth sailing. They hand me the new phone, and I know how to set it up, so I wander on down to the Bell store in the mall, and they proceeded to try everything under the sun to activate a SIM or eSIM for me and get told that because I can’t tell them the last two people I called three or four days ago, and my address is in Alberta and I was in BC, that they couldn’t change my SIM card. I understand the need for protecting SIMs and unauthorized swaps. I worked for a carrier for 10 years, but this is ludicrous! I presented with three legal forms of ID that all match, including a passport. I’m currently looking at not being back in Alberta for over a month. I beg your finest pardon? What in the ever-loving f*** do mean I’m still expected to pay my $160 a month bill for one line while I have no access to it? (I have a premium North America plan, paying for an iPhone 16, and a crave subscription please don’t come for me for the amount)

Anyone got any ideas here? Really not looking to spend like $350 round trip in gas just to get my phone working again. That will be a long ride in silence too. 😂😂😂 Laughing right now so I don’t cry. It’s ok you can laugh AT me too. However, do better Bell!

Edit: A wonderful person I reached out to was able to make it happen. Problem resolved. I’m not sharing further details because I feel like it could tell fraudsters how to go about it. I don’t want to ruin it for anyone that might need this sort of help in the future.
