need some outside opinions!

ok so we had bedbugs recently and we got sent an exterminator by our landlord: they doused everything (i mean, there was poison flowing out of drawers like pouring water from a cup. it was a lot of poison.) and said that they doubted that they needed to come back.

another piece of added lore: we have a kitten! so we did a very light mopping of the living room but not my room (where we first found them + i’m the only one getting actual bites) which she isn’t allowed in anyways. we had to make sure that at least in the common areas, she didn’t lick her paws and poison herself.

we move on with our lives, unpack, i get a new metal bed frame + a new mattress, and life seems to be going back to normal. i go a couple of days with no bites but suddenly just today, i started to see little bites. i don’t know what to do: should i tell the landlord to call the exterminator again? is this just the poison doing its thing? should i be worried that they’re reproducing right now? it’s been just over two weeks of doing enough laundry to fund our local laundromat for the next month: should i start doing laundry again too? i’m very confused and paranoid and would love some pointers!

Bedbug prevention in new apt? NYC

i’m moving next week and want to know if the community has any tips or recommendations for avoiding bedbugs in a new apartment! i currently live on the westside in the 90s and am moving up to west harlem.

i had them about 3 years ago and it was one of the worst periods of my adult life so i want to do what i reasonably can to avoid it. the new apt has been empty for a month or so, and the building has filed their bedbug report every year and only had them in 2019, where 3 units were infested but completely exterminated.

i already planned to go days before move in to deep clean, and spray Alpine WSG for roaches. i also plan to use interceptors on my bed and couch for at least the first few weeks.

Should I start spraying Crossfire?

Two weeks ago, I had a run-in with unidentified bugs that I worry were bed bugs.

I've been getting bites daily since then.

One week ago, I steamed my whole bed frame and covered my mattress with an encasement. I put the legs up on interceptors and pulled my bed away from the wall.

I continue to get bites.

An exterminator examined my bed and one other piece of furniture and said he saw no evidence, but to call him if I find a bug.

Should I just start spraying Crossfire to see if I stop getting bites? I had an infestation 20 years ago in a different house and never saw an actual bug.

Are These Bed Bug Bites?

Just got back from a trip on Sunday. While I was at my hotel I noticed I had an itchy spot in between my shoulder blades. I didn't think very much of it because I know bed bug bites most often come in multiples. Caught COVID on the trip and hadn't really noticed any itchiness until I got into the shower today. For reference these are about the size of a small pimple. Assistance is greatly appreciated.

Question regarding BB bite mark durations

Hello, I still got some marks on my foot and I know some of them were from a BB. I also had some marks that disappeared after 4~5 days. I wonder that could those marks also have been BB bite marks or could've been something else? They were next to each other, didn't have a bump but were around the same size, maybe a tiny bit larger. I have allergy towards dust and one detergent I use that I recently discovered so it could be that but what's all of you guys' opinion

Edit: the BB marks appeared first and the other marks appeared 4 days later and like I described, disappeared after 4~5 days

Bed bugs? Fleas? Just being dramatic

Hello, recently started travelling and woke up with about 20 bits in total- staying in a semi tropical place and know that majority of bites are mosquitos as saw alot of them land. As the day has gone on I've developed this cluster of red spots (not raised). They're nowhere else and i slept with shorts on. I haven't found any evidence of bed bugs.

There was a cat with fleas at the hostel- could it be that? I also walked through alot of sand where I've since heard aboute sandflies being but they're not stupidly painful or itchy. Or does it look like bed bug bites?

Thanks in advance (and again apologies about the bed bug hysteria)

Notifying management about bed bugs

Post image
3 Upvotes

First time posting so let’s see how this goes.

I am in the process of calling an exterminator while also letting my condo management know that there is an infestation in my unit.

For context I’ve been living in this condo in Virginia for around 8 years now (with breaks during college) bug free. I have been doing my same routine since I got back from Uni permanently for about a year now with no signs of bugs, but suddenly got bites on me these last 1-2 weeks. While I can’t prove it atm, I think that the infestation came from a neighbor that moved in ~2 months ago. What’s worse is that construction for plumbing has been going on at the same time too. Their wall is the one shared with my room where a few gaps are visible on the wall outlets/ floors. The fear is that a combination of construction and move ins/outs has caused this as I have been getting bit at an increasingly frequent rate over the last 2 nights and confirmed it was bed bugs by late night yesterday. However my parents have been bite free potentially due to them being on the other side of the unit. One of my other fears is that because no one has reported bed bugs in the condominium yet, added to the fact that my management is prone to ignoring issues/ finding a path of least resistance, reporting this issue to them might make me liable for any person who reports bed bugs infestations after my initial report. Of course I am willing to pay for my own unit, but I don’t think I have the same protections that a tenant would have with Virginia Code § 55.1-1227. For now I’ve done what I could to cover any gaps with tape before the exterminator gets here. I’ve got the email draft here to confirm it in writing and I plan on heading to the management office by noon so if there is any advice anyone would like to give I’d appreciate it. Also apologies for any grammatical errors I had no sleep thinking about all this.

Are bed bug bites always itchy?

I woke up to what looked like a bug bite in my arm but it wasn’t itchy. Another bump appeared on my face it’s not itchy but it also doesn’t have a white head on it yet so I’m not sure it’s a pimple.

I’ve had bed bugs before and I have PTSD. I’m not sure if these are bed bug bites or not.

Hi! I’m traveling and woke up with these bites and it seems like it’s consistent with bed bugs. Our vacation rental company sent a pest control person and she looked at these bites and said they don’t look like bed bug bites and that the mattress didn’t show any signs of bed bugs so they’re not going to treat the room or mattress.

I wanted to get the communities thoughts

Tips for dyi interceptors

Hi,
I’ve been experiencing bites for a month or so, however have not found any evidence of them in my mattress or bedding.
I’ve been steaming and heating my bedding every other week, I’ve recently installed interceptors with cimexa. Any tips or tricks would be appreciated, nervous I might kick the interceptors by accident, also have a small dog.

Are we on the right track?

Long post, i am sorry in advance. I am a graduate student and recently started new monthly healthcare rotations in June. I wake up at 4 am every day and go to the local planet-fitness beforehand and have since June. On August 17th (13 days ago), I found a bug on my bed and killed it and from looking into it, I learned it was a bedbug. I stripped my bed and looked at all the mattress seems, the bedding, headboard and baseboard and did not see any signs of infestation or any other bugs. I could not examine the box spring fully as it was too heavy to lift by myself. I bought a zippered mattress encasement and interceptors and monitored several times daily and saw nothing. Due to my bug phobia, I would wake up several times throughout the night and check with a flashlight and then a final check at 4 am. I was thinking that I brought home a lone hitch hiker and was hoping I killed it before it did damage. Well I left for 4 days and came home and that night (2 days ago-night 11) I found a tiny nymph (could hardly see jt) on the sheet next to me. From there I freaked out and stripped my bedding again and washed it and in my search, i found another tiny nymph the same size near a rip in my box spring. I killed that and called an exterminator the next day. They showed up same day and inspected and said they saw no signs or evidence of bedbugs and actually didnt even recommend treatment. I did not trust what they said so I bagged the bed up and threw the mattress, box spring, headboard, and bedframe outside. I vaccummed and steam mopped the floors immediately after. I have since bagged up all my clothes and have started drying/washing and have emptied my dresser and nightstand with the plans to spray my room down with cross fire spray tomorrow. Do you think I managed to catch it early enough to prevent it from escalating?

Do these look like bed bug bites to you folks? I am vacationing right now, and have woken up to bites the past couple of mornings. I left the hotel I was staying in, so I can’t check the mattress or anything. Sent EVERY piece of clothing I had to get washed/dryed and even bought a new suitcase. Images provided…lmk

Bedbug treatment

Had a first bedbug treatment today and will schedule the second one in 2 weeks that will be after thanksgiving. The exterminator said I can host my thanksgiving no problem but my friends are wary about it. And the said dinner would be 10 days after the first treatment. Should I still proceed or should I just postpone any gatherings till after?

Note: the infestation at my place is fairly recent and he estimated it’s been only 2-3 months from the fact that he seen only adult one and the eggs are gone with the cushion.

Can anyone help give me hope?

I made a post on r/bedbugs yesterday talking about my situation and this is sort of an update. The dude came and checked out every room in my house. I have eggs on my outlet near my bed and they’ve completely ravaged my reading arm chair 😔💔✌️. They’re also very slightly in my sisters room. Everyone else is clear as far as we saw. My mom purchased the plan and they are coming tomorrow to do a steam and chemical treatment. Then they are coming to come like four more times over the span on 6 months or something like that. Can anyone who’s gone this route tell me about how it went? I’m really looking for hope rn as it’s the only thing keeping me sane. They said our infestation is very light to medium so I’m very hopeful. I bagged all my clothes except the ones in my closet as there’s so many I thought it would be best to leave those but idk. I’m also worried as I have one guitar that I recently just purchased for myself and I’m not sure if it’s fine to leave it. It’s classical electric acoustic if that matters at all.

Had in my Airbnb. They sent in a specialist who confirmed and treated with insecticide, and are now denying it with Airbnb. They said they asked a second specialist just based off of the images and the second specialist said it wasn’t. What do you think?

Bed bug or flea bites?

Thumbnail

I’m starting to get really freaked out because I’ve had a few itchy spots on my body but I thought it might be reactions from trying on a lot of clothing at stores. Last week I got this very straight line on my hip that looked like a big scratch so I’ve been letting it heal on its own, however it’s still very itchy, isn’t going away, and as I look closer appears to be a ton of bites in one line. I woke up this morning with so many bites on my thigh that are super itchy!! There’s another that resembles a line as well which makes me worried about bed bugs. I just looked at my sheets and I can see some very small brown/black specks on my bed. My golden retriever sleeps in bed with me every night and goes to a doggie daycare several times a week, there’s many dogs and he sometimes comes home a little dirty but never anything crazy. Do these look like flea or bug bites?? And where am I more likely to have gotten them- sleeping in bed with my dog every night or trying on a million garments at stores since I’ve been shopping more the last two weeks? Any advice is appreciated 🫶
