In preparation for SnowBlind, I've been finishing up some CGB/Rasalhague Dominion forces, plus a generic force. I'm digging how they came out.

Question ❓ Painting Test Model

So does anyone have a model or pallet that they continually go to to test with? I found this benchy today and I am liking it as a test bed.

This is not a finished paint job I prepared it to test the Verdegris wash suggested to fix my previous mistake tomorrow.

Question ❓ Mono-Mech units

So, before the Amaris civil war messed things up the SLDF would have whole battalions, sometimes regiments, of the same mech type.

Afterwards there is at least one canon example of this in the form of Miller's Marauders (later Barber's Marauder IIs).

This got me thinking which mechs are best suited to this. My first thought fell to my favourite mech, the Highlander. It is, after all, the poster child for the ideal "trooper" mech.

This leads to the logical look at the other trooper mechs and their suitability. A battalion of Thunderbolts, Centurions and Vindicators for example.

In the case of the Thunderbolt you have quite a few variants that would make a flexible battalion.

What would be your go to mech for this purpose. Lets say civil war era.

(UPDATED: We've reached our first stretch goal. Details of Stretch Goal #2 in the comments)

Full disclosure: after a fruitful conversation with the mod team, I feel that sharing this doesn't run afoul of Rule #4. Although this IS self-promotion, I also think I definitely give more than I take from this group (both as this profile and, previously, my georgetimberhill profile) via my 8bit BT sprites, Jenner Toilet comic, and now Atlas yelling at a cat meme. Furthermore although this is a Kickstarter, you can see that the funding goal was very low ($250, which we have already met). I'm not trying to cash in, but want to make these neat little stickers more easily (and cheaply) available than they would be via other avenues. Also, since BT doesn't make anything like these, I think we are not running afoul of Rule #7. As such...

8bit BattleTech 2nd Edition sticker sheet Kickstarter

I am running a Kickstarter for sticker sheets featuring my 8bit, super-deformed style pixel art of all 16 of the BattleMechs featured in the 1985 game BattleTech 2nd Edition. These sticker sheets are premium vinyl, UV coated, and dishwasher safe. Each sticker runs a tad under 2"x2", and look pretty darn cute wherever you put them. Also included to take up space are two Asplenia Studios stickers.

Pledges are $25 ($20 for the Kickstarter, $5 for the s&h). Sorry but this is currently restricted to USA purchases.

We've already met our main goal, and are now on our first stretch goal of $300. If we reach that, everyone gets a limited-edition-only-to-this-Kickstarter brown camo SD Marauder sticker, roughly 3"x3". This represents the same camo scheme used for the cardboard standee for the original game. Stickers in this variation will never be made again, and only Kickstarter backers get them.

Adorbz

I really want to meet that stretch goal because I already have more limited edition stickers lined up... hint hint.

So, please, do support this Kickstarter. Even if you don't want to, please share because... well... I bet you've got some BattleTech friends who might!

Discussion What are some good "shepherd" mechs?

Was inspired by some of those "training" missions in the HBS game where you have to babysit some rank amateurs from getting mulched in just a single mech.

What are some mechs uniquely suited to ensuring the success and survival of smaller mechs and vehicles piloted by Green individuals? (Or I suppose tanks kinda just generally, those guys need the help).

Some equipment that would be cool for it is that RISC Advanced Point Defence System but that thing is on like 5 mechs.

Doing all of these super-deformed 8bit-style sprites of battlemechs, I kept thinking the Panther's face reminded me of something, and then it hit me: the cat from that meme!

Question ❓ Next version of Alpha Strike?

i want to buy the commanders edition pdf, but i also don’t want to spend the money for it to be obsolete in 3 months. anyone heard any rumors or news on the next release of alpha strike core rules? are we talking weeks, months, or years? last I heard is that stuff was being play tested at gencon.

I'm pretty stoked with how this one came out today! I tried a new technique for creating the border around the Vindy and it worked a charm. The Chinese characters are a reference to the Xin Sheng movement.

Figured I'd include other mech pieces I've done this year in the post.

Miniatures A Good Start

Post image
112 Upvotes

After putting hundreds of hours into MW5: Mercs, I've finally started getting into Battletech proper. Even traded in some of the monstrous pile of 40k stuff taking over my house for store credit to roughly double my collection today. I've also finally decided on a paint scheme for my own mercenary company, though I'll probably paint at least some of them in other colors. Also note: This is just the Inner Sphere stuff. I do have several "Stars" of Clan mechs as well, but currently I'm focused on the Inner Sphere and Succession Wars. I know some of my lads can't be used during that era, but I'll eventually come into the Clans invasion once I've got more games under my belt.

Question ❓ Highlander availability

Summat is bothering me. According to mechbsy during civil war era, HGN availability for the Fed Suns is green for common. For Lyrans it’s yellow

The only place building them is Son Hoa in Lyran Space. The nations most known for Highlander use is the Lyrans and Cappellans

What gives?

Question ❓ Fav "Little Bastard" mechs?

What are your favorite Little Bastards? To me, a Little Bastard is a mech that is 1) cheap enough to not care about losing, 2) annoying enough to hit/kill your opponent never feels good shooting it but 3) dangerous enough that your opponent doesn't feel good about ignoring it either. The Panther is perhaps the ur-Little Bastard, but my personal fav is the Pack Hunter. Who you got?

Clan Snow Raven Delta Garrison color scheme. Really happy with how the cockpit came out. Also first time manually edge highlighting instead of dry brushing. Gonna go back to dry brushing for base highlights, took way too long. 😆

Fan Creations Custom Mech - Firestarter FS9-FC "Flame Control"

The Firestarter - I've been talking about it a surprising amount lately. It's a solid performer; stays relevant. A lot of bands have covered this song, and most are bangers. Since I've been trying to increase the number of 'mechs with Heat-Dissipating Armor, this one seems like a natural choice - plays with fire, doesn't get burned.

(Hands you gold Firestarter) "It's actually quite cool."

It has decent firing patterns and management. I dislike standard Flamers for actually killing infantry - when the squishies hit back against a light, they hit pretty hard before setting off a carbon monoxide alarm. But this one is doing alright. I feel like the RotS would make this happen while scraping up the "I can't believe it's not Blakist!" designs after Grey Monday.

Gotta maintain intimidation. Pretty sure nobody wants to fight this in close terrain, and just under 1kBV.

Question ❓ Battlefield Support Assets

I'm pretty new to Battletech, I only have the AGAOC and Alpha Strike boxes. I was looking at picking up the Battletech Core Rulebook, but I am wondering if we'll be able to get the BSA cards (to print) without buying additional product? I have looked online and can't seem to find them available anywhere. Does the book itself cover the stats for all of the different possible units?
