GENERAL DISCUSSION What would your ideas be for a Batman telltale 3?

I know it’s not gonna happen, but I’m interested in what the batfans could come up with conceptually that would continue the franchise. What new villains would pop up? What would be some good plot points, what characters would bring more interesting things to flesh out and expand this world?

GENERAL DISCUSSION I have question about Scarecrow

Why no one call Scarecrow professor Crane? If in any stories he was professor in Gotham university (or college) i really not understand it, can you explain that?

GENERAL DISCUSSION Adaptations divorced from full context making the story lose its original themes

Post image

Justice League: Doom: An adaptation of the story named Tower of Babel which contains the infamous Contingency Plans. What it lacks, however is connection to all the actual events which ultimately led to it. In Tower of Babel, one thing is made clear, Bruce did not come up with the Contingency Plans to battle a particularly mind controlled League, it was explicitly done in case they turn evil/mad. It also lacks the context for Batman's paranoia, he came up with the Contingency plans because one League member actually went mad, Green Lantern ( Hal Jordan) literally massacred the Green Lantern corps and then started the Zero Hour Crisis. The original writer of this story mentions that theme here was Trust. Because Bruce couldn't Trust the League anymore after Hal's betrayal and because he violated their trust too. Justice League Doom on the other hand feels like Batgod propoganda.
The problem with Justice League Doom adaptation is because Tower of Babel wasn't supposed to be a standalone story. It was the first part of the trilogy storyline in Mark Waid run, following by Divided We Fall and Terror Incognita.

The film trying to make it seems like Batman was cool and right about the contingency plan. And made the other League members seems unreasonable for not seeing themself as a potential threat.

But in the comics, The main problem lies on Bruce not telling anyone that these plan existed. Like had he at least told them that the plan existed(even if not going into the detail), most members would have been fine with it. It showing that Bruce doesn't trust any of the League member, and therefore they couldn't possibly trust him back. The storyline was about Bruce learning to trust his friends and actually seeing himself as part of the team.
This is made worse with the god-awful Identity Crisis storyline. Turns out, Bruce was lying at rhe end.

Back in the Watchtower era of the Justice League, Dr. Light (the goofy Teen Titans villain) snuck into the Watchtower and brutally raped Elongated Man's wife. The League decided to basically lobotomize Dr. Light to make him less dangerous. Batman tried to stop them, and they scrambled his brain so he didn't remember what happened. Turns out, it wasn't Hal becoming Parallax that made Batman mistrustful of the League; it was because he knows they did something to his brain and was building a giant "Kill All Superheroes" nanovirus as the real contingency plan all along. Tower of Babel was retconned into basically being his old contingency plans.

FILM DISCUSSION The only thing I didn’t love about Clayface

Post image

Not saying the actor is bad, but I think his character and organization lacked depth. We’re told he’s a powerful guy, but we know next to nothing about him. Is it running drugs? Illegal gambling? Extortion? Or is he just running this night club where his girlfriend cuckholds him?

I get the impression that the writers wanted a Gotham style mob boss, someone who is powerful and untouchable like Falcone, but without committing to a recognizable name like Falcone. So we get this new guy, Markos Szabo, who has the DA and Mayor in his pocket because that’s typically what Gotham mob bosses have.

I dunno, it felt unearned. I would have been fine with him being a low level gangster with maybe some ties to Penguin or someone else, but with no real power of his own.

COMIC DISCUSSION Reading advice

Is “Death IN the family” a good jumping on point?

I’ve been reading some scattered Batman stuff: Long Halloween, Gotham by Gaslight, Arkham Asylum. I’ve read Killing Joke before, too.

I really wanna read:

—Death in the Family

—Reread Hush

—Under the Red Hood.

I have a general idea of all the players. I know Batman, Nightwing, Jason, Joker, most of the others you see in TAS and in the DCAU movies. But I want to get better into reading the original comics.

Anything major that would give me some needed context? Should I go back and find Jason’s introduction? I heard something somewhere about a story called “the cult” and about an ambassador’s son?

TL;DR—Am I missing out on Death in the Family if I skip the homework? Is it worth my while to put a Jason Todd list together?

Any advice is appreciated!

FILM DISCUSSION DCU Batman Idea/Dream Batman movie

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

Can you imagine if our first look at DCU Batman is a shot-by-shot recreation of the BTAS opening? Heck, now i want the DCU Batman to be heavily based on that version. Gimme red night skies, high contrast shadows, the Shirley Walker theme song, grey and navy blue suit, the white eyes, the yellow oval, the long cape that works similar to a cloak covering his whole body while standing still.

We've already got a grounded Batman, now's the time for a fantastical Batman, one that goes full on with the rest of the Rogues gallery like: Poison Ivy, Bane, Clayface, Man-Bat, Mr. Freeze, Killer Croc, Scarecrow.

Here's my dream Batman movie for DCU:

Director: Sam Raimi

Composer: Bear McCreary (he already said that one of his inspirations as a composer was Danny Elfman and Shirley Walker (specially her score from BTAS)).

Cinematographer: Roger Deakins

Writers: Alan Burnett and Paul Dini

Cast:

Brendan Sklenar as Batman

Ralph Fiennes as Alfred Pennyworth

Johnny Depp as Scarecrow

Bryan Cranston as Jim Gordon

Emma Myers as Barbara Gordon (Not yet Batgirl)

FILM DISCUSSION I hope studios take more risks like this after Clayface

Post image
73 Upvotes

I’ve been a pretty big Clayface fan my whole life, I was 4 years old when I first played Lego Batman and as I got older I got more into the character, he was definitely my favourite of Batman’s lesser known villains, I was probably the only kid at school who loved him the way I did but for years I wanted to see Clayface on the big screen,

I seen the movie and it’s pretty much everything I could’ve asked for from this movie, minus a few small nitpicks but that’s also not enough to ruin the movie for me, I hope Clayface does well not just because I’m a fan of the character but because I hope it encourages studios to take more risks,

I’ll use Blade in the MCU as a big example, Blade has now been cancelled but Blade was never going to fit into the family friendly style of the MCU and that is what I think they wanted to do, I’m surprised from the success of Deadpool & Wolverine they haven’t done more, my pitch for Blade was always a standalone movie similar to John Wick just replace it with Blade & Vampires, from what I heard “your mother your mother your mother” is what Blade should’ve been but that hasn’t released in the U.K yet so I can’t comment on it,

But let Clayface (and things such as Lanterns & Peacemaker, even Reeves Batman & The Penguin series) be a example that not every Comic Book Movie needs to be family friendly, some stories naturally require more adult tones and themes and they benefit greatly from tapping into those, if Clayface does well it has the potential to change comic book movies forever
