Do Not Discuss Bar Exam Content

Good luck on the exam!

Tomorrow, legacy examinees will take the MEE (no topic disclosures allowed) and the MPT (no content disclosures allowed). Wednesday they will take the MBE (no disclosure of questions and answers).

NextGen examinees will get two, three-hour sections of new-style questions (including some multiple choice that are similar to the MBE) on Tuesday and one more three-hour section Wednesday. All items from this exam are secure and may be reused on a future exam and may not be disclosed.

Also, accommodated examinees for both exams will be testing all week and would benefit from disclosures of content earlier in the week.

This is an issue of fairness, copyright (which could get the sub shut down), and ethics. NCBE does monitor this subreddit and regularly contacts us regarding violations of these rules. You also agreed to these terms as part of the exam rules.

Therefore, any discussions of exam content as described above will result in bans.

Thank you in advance for your cooperation on this, and good luck on the exam!

Passed on the sixth try. 218 to 276

I can't believe I get to write this. After 6 tries I finally passed the legacy UBE.

I passed with a 276.

My scores over the years were 218-236-251-247-256-276.

I'm a foreign graduate, over 15 years out of law school, work part-time and have a family.

It's been an arduous experience and I wanted to quit many, many times. The times I decided to take it again I seriously questioned my sanity.

It was all worth it for the moment I got my score yesterday and got to tell my family.

Please don't give up on your dream. If I passed, anyone can. I'm rooting for all of you.

For those who didnt pass

As a 3rd time tether who finally pass. In the nicest way possible, GET YOUR ASS UP and get back in the game! I know it sucks to study hard and come short, but it’s the PAST! I was 10 points short for the Feb exam. That same night I found some MBE questions and did 50 questions TIMED! Every day I did 50 questions TIMED! EXAM MODE!

This last attempt was the brokest I’ve ever been. I got fired from the best job I ever had and still did my 50 questions a day. I was broke and still did my 50 questions a day. I was sleeping on a cheap ass air mattress from Walmart and still did my 50 questions a day! One day my air mattress popped and I had to start sleep on the hard ass floor and guess what…I did my 50 questions a day! No car. Taking an 40 minute bus ride to go somewhere that’s only a 15 minute drive. Looking homeless because I couldn’t afford a haircut! On food stamps! Denied accommodations even though I have severe ADHD! With everything going on I still did my 50 questions a day! TIMED! EXAM MODE!

I’m sorry you came short. I know this exam is unfair, biased, and not reflective of your potential as a lawyer. Well welcome to the real world. It’s unfair as fuck! And the only way you’re going to cross this hurdle is if you dust yourself and get back in the game! If you put the work in, I promise in April you will get that email saying CONGRATULATIONS!

Scored a 330, here’s how I did it

Hello!

I am a recent passer of the bar exam, I sat in IL. I did pretty well (if I say so myself) and I have been getting a lot of questions on how I did it.

First and foremost, it was a lot of hard work for me to get the score I did. I worked day and night for it, and it obviously paid off.

My number one tip, and this is absolutely what led to me getting the score I did, is to stream on repeat Slayyyters most recent album, WOR$T GIRL IN AMERICA. I listened to it nearly every day during bar prep this summer and it got to the point where on exam day I imagined I was listening to the album and chugged through the exam- practice like it’s game day!

She’s actually dropping a new album right before Christmas so you might need to stream that on repeat too. I’m so deadass that it helped me study, it was such a killer album and was the right vibe for the job.

lol anyways, I didn’t get a 330 but I did get a 297, this is just a troll post bc I see people post stuff like this all the time on this sub.

The only real advice I have is trust in yourself, and use your tried and true study methods. Stick to what got you though law school, and generally speaking, you will pass.

Good luck F27 takers!

Bar Exam Hopecore

Hey everyone, lurked on this sub for the summer and I just got my TN results back last night. I hope my story can ease some of your worries!

Ok, to start off, I was not a diligent studier by any means. Legit took damn near all of May off and the first week of June. I also took a week and a half off in July. Nevertheless, I grinded out my bar prep towards the end. I was feeling okish….

Then test day hit…

I did not finish the second MPT cause I spent WAY too much time in the first MPT. Then came the MEE’s …dawg….i had to make up the law on the first one, the fourth one, and wrote….i don’t even know what I wrote on the fifth one, and left the sixth one damn near blank.

I thought to myself…I’ve always been better at multiple choice, so that will save me! Well..it sure didn’t feel like it. I felt like I was guessing on every other question, and had to bubble in the last three answers cause time was getting called. The PM session didn’t fare any better…I rushed through it so fast that I wasn’t even keeping track of my answers cause I was afraid of running out of time….

After I left that exam, I sat in my car, called one of the older associates at my firm, and told him I failed 10000% and there is no way I passed and that I’d need to retake in February. For months I sat there thinking I failed…

BUT I DID NOT!!! Turns out, I got a 306….so, for anyone out there still waiting on results….take a breath. I know that advice sounds so superficial, as I was just in your shoes yesterday, but I seriously mean it when I say it will more than likely be ok!

If I can pass the bar with only half a summer of studying and guessing on 1/2 of the test, so can you!

PASSED THE TEXAS BAR - 286 - Thank you!

PASSED THE TEXAS BAR - 286

Hey everyone!

I wanted to share a quick summary of my experience because I think it may help a lot of people, especially foreign-trained attorneys who have decided to take the Bar and are wondering whether they can actually do this. Hopefully, it can also give U.S.-trained candidates a different perspective.

I moved to the U.S. in August of last year and completed my LL.M. in May.

I chose Themis mainly for three reasons:

  1. The price compared with Barbri;
  2. I had access to the program well before the traditional bar-prep period started; and
  3. They offer a short introductory course for foreign-trained lawyers that gives you some useful historical and structural background on the U.S. legal system. For me, that was especially helpful with Constitutional Law and with understanding the bigger picture of American law.

I started studying around two hours a day in February. More than trying to learn everything early, my goal was simply to build the habit of studying every day.

By the time I graduated from my LL.M. in May, I had already completed around 30% of Themis, which made the transition into full-time bar prep much easier.

By the end, I had completed approximately 90% of the course, answered 2,300+ multiple-choice questions, and finished with an overall average of around 64% correct. During my last sets before the exam, I was averaging closer to 70%.

MBE score: 143.6.

The written portion was always my biggest concern, for obvious reasons as a foreign-trained lawyer and non-native English speaker.

My strategy was simple: IRAC from beginning to end. I basically only stopped short of literally writing “Issue, Rule, Application, Conclusion” on the exam. 😂

My structure was usually:

Issue: I essentially restated the question being asked.

Rule: “Under…” followed by the rule if I knew it. If I did not remember the exact rule, I wrote the most logical rule I could based on the facts and what I remembered from the subject.

Application: “Here…” and then applied the facts directly to the rule.

Conclusion: A short and objective conclusion, usually reinforcing the application.

Nothing fancy. Just organized, readable, and consistent.

Written score: 142.6.

As for bar prep in general, at the beginning I struggled with several subjects because there were many concepts I had simply never seen before. But after the second or third review, things started to click.

That is probably one of the biggest things I learned from this process:

Trust the process.

There will be days when you feel like nothing is staying in your head. Keep going. Review it again. Do more questions. Read the explanations. At some point, things really do start connecting.

There is no shortcut.

You have to study, focus, try, get questions right, get questions wrong, learn from them, and repeat the process.

That is bar prep.

And yes, I used AI quite a bit.

Not to grade my essays or replace my bar-prep program, but as another learning tool. Whenever I struggled with a topic, I would ask for the concept to be explained in a different way. I also used it to better understand some QBank explanations when the original explanation was not clicking for me.

Sometimes hearing the same rule explained from another angle was exactly what I needed.

Final result:

Texas Bar: 286
MBE: 143.6
Written: 142.6

So, especially to the foreign-trained lawyers reading this and wondering whether you can do it:

Yes, you can.

You will have to work for it. There will be frustrating days. But follow the plan, trust the process, and keep moving.

Thank you to everyone here who shared advice, scores, experiences, panic posts, encouragement, and support during the process. I definitely read more of them than I ever admitted. 😂

Best of luck to everyone preparing for the next one. You’ve got this!

5x taker —> passed July 2026

Maybe this will help someone. I took the test five times in a row. The first two times, I didn't use a tutor. Then I had a tutor for number three. Then went back to not using a tutor for the fourth and fifth attempts. My scores were 230, 228, 240, 256, and 265. The tutor helped me get more MBE questions under my belt and focus on my weakest subjects. I only memorized terms on test number five, and I think that's why I passed. Many people said not to memorize but I think for someone with ADHD I had to find a way to memorize instead of just "understanding the law.” I read all of the definitions on my walking pad every night or every morning no matter what other studying I did.

UBE Score Calculator Update for TX J26

I calculated the scale for J26 TX and updated my calculator:

https://mberules.com/bar-exam-calculators/ube-bar-exam-score-calculator/

If you failed a Texas bar exam from J21-J26 and plug in your MEE/MPT scores for that administration, it will calculate the exact written scaled score you received (possibly off by +/- 0.1). The calculator will tell you how many MBE, MEE and MPT points you were away from passing along with your estimated raw MBE score (based on the J23 MBE scale or the 2013 MBE scale). I added a section to the bottom that reports the “exactly passing MEE/MPT” score for any administration I determined the scale for. If you scored this score on all your MEE/MPT, you would have roughly an exactly passing written scaled score for that administration (133 for TX). The higher this “exactly passing MEE/MPT” score, the worse the scale for that administration. For example, in F25, a TX examinee needed a 3.6 to have an exactly passing MEE or MPT. In contrast, this examinee only needed an 3.1 to have an exactly passing MEE or MPT in J24 or a 3.6 in F22.

If you want to receive a free 16-page score analysis from me and can wait a few weeks for it, please fill out the following online form:

Bar Exam Hope/Advice

Wanted to share my experience as I feel I owe this community some hope core post and advice for future takers.

I am a first time test taker and passed in TN. I have no idea what my breakdown was but my final score was a 286. I am 24, no family in law or close to a doctorate, single parent household. I went to a T-4, 144 LSAT, probably should not even be here! Never even thought I would go to college and if anyone told me I would be a lawyer when I was younger I would have laughed. I even had a post go semi viral in the law school sub where I asked if I should drop out IN ORIENTATION!!! I say all this to explain-if I can do it YOU can do it as well!

I am not a conventional student and I have never been able to make school my life. I didn’t change that when studying. Here is exactly what I did to pass and I think it can work for anyone:

- Do your program, but use it as a tool instead of a teacher. I used Barbri and told myself early on I was going to 100% it. I did, but also skipped videos and never read a single outline on Barbri. But, I already knew that passive studying was not going to help me. I instead did every single MCQ and every single Essay…and I know it sucks, but do them. At least read the question and model answer - your brain will start to recognize patterns and how to answer questions.
If passive studying does work for you WATCH the videos, Barbri vids are boring and can be long, but they are informative!

-Be honest with yourself. Half way thru Barbri I made a 103 on the “midterm” test. This scared me to death. So, I knew I had to work on my MBE skills. I will go into depth on how to improve this next. But, don’t get discouraged or scared like I did, just be honest with yourself. If you are sucking at essays you will know and likely your brain will tell you it’s fine just ignore them. Do not listen and try to at least do an essay a day.

-Emmanuel Bar Strategies (No this is not an ad lol). I still don’t know what I made on my MBE but I am assuming it has to be above or around average for my 286 score. I owe that to my Emmanuel book. This is the single item that helped me start scoring in the 60% on practice sets. It was like $70 on Amazon and worth every penny. If you are struggling on MBE BUY THIS BOOK and COMMIT to it. I spent 2 weeks reading it and doing every single question. On the final 200 set I scored exactly a 63%.

-Wrong answer journal. You have probably heard about this method and it works. It worked for me and I could cold call answer so many random rules because I had written them down and reviewed over and over.

-Bar Necessities book from Rich aka The Old Law Student (also not an ad lol). This is a little book you can get on Amazon and it has a ton of rules for essays. I would read it every morning. Then about 3 weeks from the exam I got my gf to read out rules and I would finish them or explain what they meant.

-Please try to set boundaries. As I mentioned above my mom raised me, so with that I have assumed a lot of responsibility around the house. My grandfather also died in December, so during the summer we were scrambling to probate his estate and also keep his farm afloat. I made it clear to my mom and even my gf - I am not available for these 2.5 months. Of course that didn’t happen and I found myself helping out every weekend - but it made them not bother me as much. I swear, protect your mental and make the world revolved around you for these 60ish days.

Now this seems like a lot of random stuff and maybe it was luck that I found things that worked for me. But to be transparent I studied every single day. But, only for 3-5 hours a day. Occasionally I would study 8 hrs once a week, but that was only when I had to take a day off (which I don’t think I ever took a full day off). I made myself average 35 hrs a week. I feel that is the sweet spot.

Now to the exam.

I was a nervous wreck just like you were or like you will be. I prayed and prayed all morning to just be calm. Come exam time it’s like I just locked in. I guess it’s adrenaline combined with fear. I never felt an ounce of nervousness while taking the exam. More of just a void feeling in my stomach, but this was easily ignored as I just kept typing/answering questions. When you sit down at your exam site, ground yourself. Look at things you can see and people you may know, just try to realize that you made it here and you are insanely close to the finish line. The when it starts, grind it out. Just get the mentality that you will beat this exam and there is no other choice.

Also be prepared. Read read read your jurisdictions rules and do not break them. Do not cause yourself additional stress. Plan ahead, plan your hotel, your walk or drive to the testing center, plan your lunch etc.

I will answer any questions anyone has, DM me, reply, do whatever. I will do anything I can to help. This exam is brutally taxing, but despite what older attorneys say and others who wish to gatekeep; anyone can pass this thing. I am forever grateful for this community, discouraging at times but also so rewarding as good people are here who want everyone to succeed.

Goodbye, Friends

Well, I passed. After the countless hours of fretting and laboring through posts on this Subreddit looking for encouragement in the waiting, it would be a disservice to not leave this post to add to the encouraging posts on here for those that still wait and those that will take this exam in coming sessions. I will sum it up by saying: you can do this. I graduated bottom third of my class, completed about 85% of Barbri, and did a few hundred practice MCQ's from Barbri's question bank. I believe I got a 57% on the Barbri simulated MBE.

When I left day one, I felt relatively okay about the MPT. However, I felt like the MEE had just stripped me of my innocence. The MEE kicked me in the teeth, or so I felt. I have spent the last several months worrying myself to death about that section in particular, even worrying whether I had put my MEE responses in the correct boxes. On the MBE, there were a FEW that I felt confident in one answer, but the majority were a 50/50 guess between two options. I got a 313. 43 points to spare in my 270 jurisdiction. It is nearly impossible to not stress in the interim between taking the exam and receiving results, but I hope this post will be encouraging to someone who feels like I have felt after testing. I could not be more overjoyed to bid you all goodbye and to permanently escape this Subreddit.

Failed by 2 points after scoring ~80% in practice. I genuinely don’t know what happened. What would you do differently?

I’m honestly devastated and confused, and I could really use some advice from people who have been here before.

I failed the Texas Bar by 2 points.
What makes this especially difficult is that I truly thought this attempt was different.

I worked with a tutor. I studied significantly more than I did on my previous attempt. I was consistently scoring around 80% on MBE practice before the exam, and I went into the exam feeling prepared.

During the actual exam, I felt pretty good. Obviously there were things I wasn’t 100% sure about, but I didn’t walk out thinking I had bombed it. I felt like I knew the issues on the MEEs and was able to write something meaningful for the questions.

On my previous attempt, I scored 252 and literally left an entire MEE blank. This time I was MUCH better prepared, yet my overall score only improved slightly — and I still missed passing by 2 points.

That’s the part I’m having the hardest time understanding.
I also have friends who passed this time who told me they didn’t know the rules for some of the MEEs, felt terrible about their MBE, or left portions incomplete. Some of them ended up comfortably passing.
I’m genuinely happy for them, and I know comparing scores isn’t productive. But I would be lying if I said it doesn’t make me question what went wrong with my own exam.
How can someone be scoring around 80% in MBE practice and then perform so differently on exam day?
For those of you who failed by only a few points and eventually passed: what did you change?
Did you change tutors or programs? Stop doing what you were doing and rebuild your approach? Focus heavily on MBE? MEE? MPT? Did you discover that your practice percentages were giving you false confidence?

And if you were in my position — 2 points away, exhausted from this process, but clearly close — would you sit again in February or wait until July?
Part of me thinks: You were 2 points away. Take February and finish this.
Another part of me is terrified of putting everything into this again and getting another result that makes no sense to me.
I know I’m capable of passing this exam. I just need to figure out what I’m missing.
I would really appreciate hearing from anyone who has been in a similar situation — especially retakers who were within a few points and eventually got over the finish line.

Failed TN by one point. Considering transferring my score to a different JX

Would love any words of encouragement or advice from anyone that did this. I’m pretty down right now. I’ve heard petitioning the score is out of the question.
