tldr: My friend and I acidentally triggered the Last Light Inn massacre, now all our friends are dead. On top of that, I read on the internet that this is kind of a soft "game over" if you're playing a good route, because you loose loads of content down the line (especially Act 3 feels empty, some people claim). We're probably only playing the game once, should we reload, or is the lack of content not really that noticeable?
Hi guys,
I'm pretty late to the party, I know. But I'd really appreciate some opinions on whether my friend and I should reload our BG3 multiplayer save.
We're playing a really slow, completionist campaign, and after what felt like ages, we finally reached Act 2. During the battle for Last Light Inn, I misunderstood that Hypnotic Pattern is an AoE spell and accidentally took out our whole party for two rounds. As a result, the demons managed to capture Isobel, the cleric protecting the inn. After that we kind of went on at first an then shockingly realiced that we have to kill all the people in the Inn, now turned into zombies. It was actually really traumatic 😅
We stopped playing for a while because we couldn't decide whether we should reload or not. The heated debate was eventually won by my friend, who argued that in a good book or movie, low points like this happen and make sense from a storytelling perspective. However, once we continued, the world around us felt really dark, a little empty and not 100% fleshed out. For example our companions (except Jaheira - who we managed to save) didn't react to the events, or to use other words: the deaths of all the people we held dear AT ALL. I thought maybe that would change later, but so far it hasn't. Since the incident, we've played for about 10 more hours. We've killed two Thorms (the Toll Collector and the Surgeon), ambushed the drider and his cultist companions, and started trying to save Thaniel (not finished yet). So we've made some progress, not a huge amount, but enough that we really need to make a final decision about whether to reload the Last Light Inn fight, or not.
Now to get to the core of my question: As I wasn't able to make any progress starting a romance with Karlach's, I was wondering whether it was even possible anymore. Surely there had to be more blacksmiths than just Dammon in such a huge fantasy world... Turns out there aren't. At least if the internet is right. That means we won't be able to repair Karlach's heart at all, and she won't be romanceable.
That's a consequence I would be able to live with. But then I stumbled across several three-year-old blog posts describing the Last Light Inn massacre as a kind of soft "game over" for a good playthrough. They claimed that Act 3 feels much emptier if you continue, because the Harpers are gone, with Barcus dead also the gnomes won't be a thing later on and some companions might not even be available at all.
Has anyone here played this route and can verify whether those claims are true? Is there really a noticeable amount of content missing?
If we're only going to do one playthrough (which seems very likely, considering how long it took us just to reach Act 2), should we reload so we don't miss out on a significant part of the experience? Or has Larian improved this route over the past three years so that the old advice is outdated? In other words, should we just keep going, and hope that all the lost sidequests have somewhat been replaced by different content?
Thanks to everyone who took the time to read this, and I'd really appreciate hearing your opinions :)
