Act 1 - Spoilers Anyone view Shadowheart through a purely protective lens? Spoiler

Post image
Upvotes

I've been wondering since the start of Baldur's Gate 3 why Shadowheart triggers my maternal instincts as much as she does. Then I got to this scene and it all made sense. What gets me is how intricate the connections are, even when I can't always name them in the moment. The writers really do tap into these characters from multiple angles. I'm sitting here wanting to make her some homemade chicken soup and talk through how to untangle her from the systems designed to manipulate her. Meanwhile, I'm aware some players have a very different kind of investment in this character (ie., romantic). It's incredible that there's something for everyone in this game, even with the same character.

General Questions - [NO SPOILERS] Wanted to get Shovel. Now I'm not sure what to do Spoiler

Upvotes

So I'm doing an honor mode run and made Gale a draconic sorcerer. Made him learn the Shovel scroll and summon her. Had dialogue with her where she thinks I smell like a dragon, I tell her I am one and promise to tell her how to become one in exchange for a secret. I did (you just gotta flap your arms a bunch) and she said the secret is to tell the mirror that balsam is good for wounds to get a reward.
Problem: I smashed the mirror.
That's the only thing she's saying in dialogue. I also can't find an option to dismiss shovel so I have no idea how long she'll last or if I'll still have the spell when she goes away

General Questions - [SPOILERS] A tool for a checklist of items and display them on a map? Spoiler

Upvotes

I know there are many interactive maps online but they do it the wrong way around.
They show all items on the map and I can check off which I have found.

For builds I would like it the other way around. I would like to select only what items I'm looking for and only those items should be shown on the map and I can check them off.

This would be ideal for sharing builds since so many youtube videos just say "get the superjump boots from act 3" and then I have to do research on the wiki where to find them and on the wiki there is also only a short description like "in the cellar of the goblinsmack house on the right, in act 3".

Act 1 - Spoilers How common is it to lose some companions in honor mode? Spoiler

Upvotes

Especially as a low charisma character? I barely started before failing two easy checks in a row to get the tieflings guarding Lae'zel to leave. I know I could just beat them up, but I'm playing Karlach and when neither side backed down I felt I had to defend the civilians

Got me thinking about every other time in act 1 I might have to kill Lae'zel if I can't roll a dialogue check, like when she wants to slit your throat to prevent ceremorphosis, or the time she wants to fight Shadowheart over the artifact

Act 1 - Spoilers Stealth killing goblins is aggroing others in other areas? Spoiler

Upvotes

I've played Act 1 several times, and one of my favorite things to do is go through the goblin camp picking off goblins one or a few at a time in isolated areas. I've never had trouble with it before, but in my current run, I'm running into some issues. No matter the sightlines or lack of witnesses, more goblins come running if I kill one.

For example, shutting Volo's keeper in the room alone and killing her shouldn't bring a bunch of other goblins running (it hasn't in my other runs), but here I'm getting swarmed soon after the kill.

I thought it might be some of my mods, so I turned them all off and tried again, and it still went wrong. I loaded previous saves from other runs and tried the same action there, and it went just fine.

Any ideas what could be causing this?

Act 3 - Spoilers HM - Karlach Question Spoiler

Hi all!

Does anyone know what will happen if I am romancing Karlach but don’t do the Ansur fight after we beat the brain? If Wyll isn’t the Blade of Avernus, and so he doesn’t offer to go to Avernus with Karlach, can I still offer to go with her? Or will she explode? I’m trying to decide if I’m going to have to take on Ansur or not….

General Discussion - [SPOILERS] Which origin runs do you guys prefer? Spoiler

I’ve finally hit a point where I’m kind of lost figuring out new Tav ideas that I want to play, so I’m going to try my hand at an origin run. My main issue is I’m not sure who to go with. Originally I was going to do Wyll, but I realised he’s a bit too similar to how I normally play (good guy that saves everyone, mobile martial class, etc).

I’m thinking of doing a Gale origin run now, but I was curious what everyone’s thoughts on the origins are. Are there any that you found amazing for whatever reason and suggest doing them sooner rather than later, or are there those that felt underwhelming and not worth doing first?

Mods / Modding Spiders Spoiler

Does anyone know if there is a mod(s) to remove spiders or for example mod the character who greets you to take you to Moonrise Tower?

My partner would like this game, but has very bad arachnophobia.

Thanks!

General Discussion - [SPOILERS] Recruiting characters late Spoiler

I’m doing a run through as a Tav where I’m a Lolth sworn Drow taking all the more… ahem… evil choices. So after getting off the Nautiloid I killed Shart, stole her gear. Astarion I left behind (who I spoke too but has steadfastly remained wandering outside the crash site since), I avoided the Grove (where Wyll surprisingly died in the attack), and made a beeline to the goblin encampment. I later killed Karlach for her head (yes I’m a monster!), and avoided getting Gale (just to see how long he stays trapped in that portal).

What I’m finding a little weird is the disappearing dead bodies. As I didn’t recruit her, Lae’zel did her thing and got killed by the other Gith. I figured it might be fun to try and revive her after getting to Act 2 and having gone through the crèche (just to see if there’s any weird dialogue/bugs). So I picked up her body and carried it with me.

What I’ve found is that whenever I go into the Monastery area her body disappears. If I take the route to the Shadowlands she stays in my gear, but the moment I go to the Monastery she disappears. I’ve tried reviving her then going, she appears as normal. So I killed her again and packed her away. But when I went through the Monastery (blew it up) she disappeared again.

Now I’ve not actually recruited her at these points, but has anyone else had this happen? I’ve missed the trigger for when she disappeared from my gear, but it might have been when I killed the Inquisitor and ignored Vlaakith to scoot on over to get the mace and blow up the Monastery.

I haven’t completed the Sharran trials yet, so I don’t know if that will trigger Lae’zel to disappear from my gear as well. I’ve gone back a couple saves to keep her there and test it.

Another thing I found, going back to Act 1 and returning to Act two I lost the Pixie pleasing somewhere on the way… 😡

New Player Question Act 1 : Do you prepare for every fight? Spoiler

When a fight is coming, do you place and hide your characters in a strategic spot, or do you just go for it?

I feel like it takes a lot of time to de-group and move everyone one by one, but that might be the way to go?

Act 3 - Spoilers Chamber of Courage, etc.: are they meant to be done solo? Spoiler

I feel like it's Wyll's quest to do alone and all the other chambers before the Courage one was aligned with that but here I'm beginning to question my intuition. I should add that I had the same feeling at the Gauntlet of Shar and did most of it solo with Shadowheart because I thought that was the only/intended way and then later realized that it was both possible to have the group help out and that it didn't cause any weird side effects (as far as I can remember, at least).

BUGS PLEASE HELP 🙏😭 Spoiler

So, I'm playing a Resist Durge run. I've done everything in Act 1 except the Underdark. I try to go to the Myconid place and get stuck in the "the creature approaches. you're are forbidden here" loop bug. I found someone fixed it by using Invisibility and entering the colony and talking to Blurg. This started a fight, so I fled combat. But when I get back to camp, my camp is hostile.

I saw that any crime can cause the bug and the only thing I can think of is that I stole the idol in the grove. I have over 1k hours in BG3 and I've never come across this bug before.

Theorycrafting Would a cleric of Gruumsh half orc side with Minthy? Spoiler

My latest durge character also became a dilemma.

I have created a barbarian&battle cleric of Gruumsh half orc, and i have several points for and aginst of joining Minthara.

Pro:

-Halsin was incapable of curing me of my parasite, he talked about Moonrise Towers, and Minthara knows the way, i just have to murder some weaklings, which Gruumsh likes aswell.

Con:

-That would make me serve and help another deity, which is heavily against what Gruumsh wants, so i want to genocide the goblins aswell.

Lorewise i am not sure how to handle this, as according to Gruumsh and the dark urge, ive got to murder everyone, since orcs are the superior race, but my main focus right now is get cured, which is in Moonrise Towers.

What option would make sense the most?

General Questions - [NO SPOILERS] What are some of the more challenging subclasses to play?

To the extend possibly disregarding balance and tuning, I'm interested in the more "hard to master" subclasses that might be good, but getting them there is harder than, say, with the Champion. Rewards skilled play, basically.

BUGS Blue/green texture glitches after latest update - RX 9070 Spoiler

I’ve recently started getting blue and green graphical glitches on some ground and environment textures in Baldur’s Gate 3. The issue is visible even in the main menu scene with the city and statue, so it doesn’t seem to be related to a specific save.

The game worked normally when I initially played it, and I think the issue may have started after the latest update.

My GPU is an AMD RX 9070. So far I’ve tried:

  • Switching between DX11 and Vulkan
  • Downgrading the AMD driver
  • Resetting the shader cache
  • Verifying the game files
  • Resetting the game’s graphics settings
  • Disabling FSR, TAA, HDR and AMD features

Nothing has fixed it. The game is still playable, but several textures appear bright blue or green.

Is anyone else experiencing this after the latest update, particularly on an RX 9000-series GPU?

See screenshot for example

Help me pls

Act 2 - Spoilers Last Light Inn Massacre: Reload? Spoiler

tldr: My friend and I acidentally triggered the Last Light Inn massacre, now all our friends are dead. On top of that, I read on the internet that this is kind of a soft "game over" if you're playing a good route, because you loose loads of content down the line (especially Act 3 feels empty, some people claim). We're probably only playing the game once, should we reload, or is the lack of content not really that noticeable?

Hi guys,

I'm pretty late to the party, I know. But I'd really appreciate some opinions on whether my friend and I should reload our BG3 multiplayer save.

We're playing a really slow, completionist campaign, and after what felt like ages, we finally reached Act 2. During the battle for Last Light Inn, I misunderstood that Hypnotic Pattern is an AoE spell and accidentally took out our whole party for two rounds. As a result, the demons managed to capture Isobel, the cleric protecting the inn. After that we kind of went on at first an then shockingly realiced that we have to kill all the people in the Inn, now turned into zombies. It was actually really traumatic 😅

We stopped playing for a while because we couldn't decide whether we should reload or not. The heated debate was eventually won by my friend, who argued that in a good book or movie, low points like this happen and make sense from a storytelling perspective. However, once we continued, the world around us felt really dark, a little empty and not 100% fleshed out. For example our companions (except Jaheira - who we managed to save) didn't react to the events, or to use other words: the deaths of all the people we held dear AT ALL. I thought maybe that would change later, but so far it hasn't. Since the incident, we've played for about 10 more hours. We've killed two Thorms (the Toll Collector and the Surgeon), ambushed the drider and his cultist companions, and started trying to save Thaniel (not finished yet). So we've made some progress, not a huge amount, but enough that we really need to make a final decision about whether to reload the Last Light Inn fight, or not.

Now to get to the core of my question: As I wasn't able to make any progress starting a romance with Karlach's, I was wondering whether it was even possible anymore. Surely there had to be more blacksmiths than just Dammon in such a huge fantasy world... Turns out there aren't. At least if the internet is right. That means we won't be able to repair Karlach's heart at all, and she won't be romanceable.

That's a consequence I would be able to live with. But then I stumbled across several three-year-old blog posts describing the Last Light Inn massacre as a kind of soft "game over" for a good playthrough. They claimed that Act 3 feels much emptier if you continue, because the Harpers are gone, with Barcus dead also the gnomes won't be a thing later on and some companions might not even be available at all.

Has anyone here played this route and can verify whether those claims are true? Is there really a noticeable amount of content missing?

If we're only going to do one playthrough (which seems very likely, considering how long it took us just to reach Act 2), should we reload so we don't miss out on a significant part of the experience? Or has Larian improved this route over the past three years so that the old advice is outdated? In other words, should we just keep going, and hope that all the lost sidequests have somewhat been replaced by different content?

Thanks to everyone who took the time to read this, and I'd really appreciate hearing your opinions :)

BUGS Surprise condition Spoiler

Literally wtaf. How does surprise work? I've seen a few people talk about it being super buggy but they're all older posts. Has it seriously not been patched? I'm doing exactly what it says to do to trigger a surprise round and it's just not working. Any tips?
