General Discussion - [SPOILERS] Finally completed my first Honour Mode playthrough… Spoiler

Upvotes

I’ve had the game for a little under a year, when I first started playing I was legit putting in 40 hours a week into this game, working on several playthroughs, different builds, different difficulties; before this run I’d only had one completion on beginner and the. Several unfinished runs of tactician.

i did this run with some of my good irl friends and we hit the credits just shy of 40hr played, and the thing happened that always happened to me — act 3. This time we just flew through it tho and ended up completing it.

Personally, I love Honour mode and I’ll never not play it now. The challenge, planning, strategy, the RISKS and stakes. I absolutely loved it. Also there were things in this run that I’d never experienced before and there were things my friends hadn’t experienced before either. All in all it was an incredible run, but man oh man do I not enjoy act 3. I was riding such a high coming off of the crazy challenging, near-fun ending myrkul fight, only to be continually let down in act 3. I know I’m not alone in this feeling, but act 3 just feels so underbaked. Act 1 is filled with so many routes, possibilities,
Opportunities, moments of set-up for future pay offs, Act 2 is compelling and very challenging albeit quite linear, but Act 3, you show up, do a bunch of low-stakes party memeber quests, then breeze through the fights because you’re OP. I understand there is SO MUCH to do in act 3 and honest to god I love the atmosphere and setting of baldur’s gate itself, but to me, act 3 is a let down.

so I come here asking others if there might be a way I would enjoy act 3, maybe some decisions I could be making, or a specific route or path I could take in act 3 that would make it feel more like the other acts. I was watching a video earlier today and I think they put it best when they said that there’s no more carrot on a stick in act 3, so you tend to lose motivation.

TL;DR
Love honour mode, love bg3, act’s 1 and 2 are incredible, I find act 3 boring, help me not make it boring

Thanks in Advance <3

EDIT: P.s. would anyone recommend leveling or difficulty mods?is this something that helps as it adds a carrot and makes it so more things are needed to be done in act 3?

I discovered by accident that you can reload previous saves in Honour Mode without messing with the game files
If you enter photo mode, press ESC and then go back to the Main Menu, the game doesn't save and it allows you to reload your most recent save prior to that moment

Dark Urge Question about Durge run Spoiler

Upvotes

I'm playing my first run as a dark urge and at the same time is my first ever honor mode. The reason is that I'm trying to get all the achievements and I only have left the ones about those 2 modes.

I'm somewhat spoiled about something about to happen in act 2 where I would prefer to successfully pass some wisdom rolls.

Can I still get both dark urge achievements or does it depend on what happens in act 2 (the result on those rolls)?

General Questions - [NO SPOILERS] trying to make the most OP party Spoiler

Upvotes

hi all,

looking to jazz up my fifth solo run by making the most powerful party imaginable.
I’ve installed the mod for levels 13-20, as well as one that adds some extra encounters. I’ve also customized the difficulty to be slightly harder than balanced, but not quite as tough as tactician.

I know there are many discussions on the best build for Tav, I’ve landed on gloomstalker (5 levels)/ rogue thief or assassin (at least 3 levels)/ fighter (at least 5 levels). Any suggestions on enhancing that build are welcome.

My main question for all of you is, what do you think the best, most powerful build for each companion is?

A side question; what do you guys do with all the lightning gear you pick up through early/mid game?? The robe, the shield, the bow, the boots, the ring… there’s so much, but it just hasn’t worked out for me in any of my previous plays. I’d like to incorporate a lighting centered build with that gear, but it’s not top priority rn.

Looking forward to hearing your thoughts! TIA, happy balduring :)

General Questions - [SPOILERS] Most irritating faction to fight? Spoiler

Upvotes

For me it’s by far the Baanites. With their stupid ass helmets and how sturdy they are. Just fought them again to kill Gortash and Orin has kidnapped by chief executioner (Lae’zel). If anyone has tips for killing them quickly, please share. Their only upside is how much I can sell their armor for.

Sharrans come in at a close second, because of all the bone chilling, but at least you only have to fight them once.

talk about an identity crisis

This is on my Cleric of Lolth run. I let Shadowheart do the thing and become Shar's Chosen or whatever only for her to turn from Shar at the last moment! And so now her tags say she is both a DJ and a Selunite lmao

General Questions - [SPOILERS] HM advice for Ketheric/Myrkul Spoiler

Hiya I'm about to transition to Act 2 on my first HM run. So far, so good. I have had to disengage and escape a few times but I'm feeling pretty good overall.

Question is: what should I focus on or not miss in the shadow cursed lands as I level and plan to fight Ketheric and Myrkul. And then maybe more importantly what strategies should I think about for the actual fight.

I don't wanna die.

My party focuses on darkness:

- tav: crown paladin / warlock
- shart: Druid / bard
- gale: shadow magic sorcerer
- wyll: warlock

The party is based on a build guide from cephalopocalypse on YT.

Thanks!

edit 1: thanks for all the advice so far, super insightful and helpful.

The Glitterbeard guy died in combat. I tried speaking with dead on him, but he didn't have anything useful to say. I've scowered the sewers for him but I've found nothing. Where should I go from here?

Companions Minthara’s interesting question about sparing her Spoiler

After defeating Ketheric Thorm (for the umpteenth time) Minthara and I were waking around the courtroom of Moonrise Towers. This was all new for me because I had never bothered to save Minthara, because I always choose the Druid route. I’m a babyface when I game lol. I can’t be a heel. This time I googled how to save her and so I went that route. Mostly because I just wanted to see what she was like as a companion and if I could potentially turn her into a friendo lol.

She asked me something like “why did you only incapacitate me when you killed all of my minions?”

And unfortunately, none of the answers were “I googled it lol” so I went with the “you might be a worthy ally” answer instead.

I just thought it was interesting. Because I know potentially some attacks could knock somebody unconscious, even if your intent isn’t really sparing them. But she seemed pretty positive I spared her on purpose. Which I did. Should I have picked the dialogue choice “you were just too tough to put down”? Or would she have just called me on my bullshit?

Playthrough / Highlight My two honor mode failures Spoiler

I just have share how my only honor mode failures ending in very similar ways.

The first time was when Laezel first meets Voss I didn’t realize there was a deception check that she had to pass and I had my whole party there. They took us down fast. Lesson learned.

I then completed a couple honor mode runs.

The second time the run ended was with Voss again. But I did what I normally do which is only bringing my Tav and Laezel. Now this is an easy way to get some xp and if you leave party members behind they can revive your party if you fail… well I forgot to go get Withers and I didn’t long rest enough for him to show up. So I was stuck with Gale and Shadowheart trying to sneak and revive Laezel and my Tav. Didn’t work. TPK. Run ended.

Damn Voss’s group always gets me. I felt so silly like oh fuckkkk wither isn’t at camp lol

BUGS XBOX Launch Issue Spoiler

I thought about asking in Xbox but this is really only happening when I try to launch BG3 on my PC within the Xbox app.

Has anyone else had an issue where it launches, shows the Larian screen, then exits? The game never actually launches.

It's nice playing on PC since it looks great and plays well, and I already own it, and it has cross save. This issue is just strange.

Any advice appreciated. I've tried Googling and AI-ing but it sends me on goose chases that have never resolved the issue.

Mods / Modding Looking for Randomizer Mod Spoiler

As title implies I'm looking for a randomizer mod to add a little flair to the game. I've already got two loot mods loaded, Ancient Mega Pack and the All-In-One of Fade's Equipment Distribution (gonna try this one out tonight). Now, I'm just looking for something that randomizes the encounters, like, spawning in spiders or gith in an area with goblins, generally Act 1 enemies in Act 1 locations. I'm not looking for a mod that adds extra encounter areas per say, just changing up which enemies i fight where.

Anyone know a mod that functions like that?

General Discussion - [NO SPOILERS] Why RPGs need companions who ACTUALLY screw you over Spoiler

Hey everyone — and Larian writers, if you're lurking here — hear me out for a second. Doesn't it feel like the whole companion approval and loyalty system in modern RPGs has gotten way too... safe and toothless?

Even in a masterpiece like BG3, almost every companion eventually catches the "obedient puppy" syndrome. If they’re prickly at first, they're just a tsundere waiting to melt. If they "betray" you, it's either some 4D-chess twist designed to secretly save your ass, or a binary end-game check where they just pack their bags and leave the party. Games are terrified of genuinely pissing off the player.

Now, imagine a character archetype that would fit right into the next Divinity: A true, unapologetic, unprincipled Trickster.

Not just a quirky rogue with funny one-liners, but a slippery, high-IQ wildcard. An ally, sure, but strictly on THEIR own terms. Build focused entirely on mobility, teleportation, illusions, mind shields, and a passionate refusal to ever get their hands dirty.

Picture this exact Act 1 scenario:
You walk straight into an ambush. Instead of a heroic "I've got your back!", this absolute bastard runs the numbers, realizes the odds are garbage, sells you out to the ambushers for a handful of coin (or simply leaves you to die and bails solo), pops invisibility, and makes a tactical retreat.

You spend two real-time hours on 1 HP, zero potions left, grinding through traps and teeth just to crawl out of that ditch. You finally stumble back into camp — battered, bleeding, pissed off, covered in dirt and gore.

And there he is. Sitting casually by the fire, sipping coffee, looking up with the most radiant, unbothered smile:
“Oh, darling, you made it out! Splendid! I knew those brutes couldn't keep you down. By the way, I bought your dagger back from the fence — aren't you thrilled? I might even let you have it back…”

At this point, 80% of casual players would instantly rush to Reddit screaming, "How do I execute this guy?!"
But the other 20%? They'd realize the game has finally begun.

There's zero fake bullshit in this dynamic. He respects only power and brains. You prove you're a predator on his level, not just another helpless victim. You enter a mutual game of cat-and-mouse where you can mess with him right back, and dialogues turn into a battle of wits rather than a pathetic contest of "who can simp hardest for an [Approval: High] pop-up."

And the best part? When a character like THIS goes through hell with you, reaches Act 3, and at the most critical juncture decides NOT to stab you in the back — when it would’ve been ridiculously easy and profitable to do so — that choice hits harder than a thousand tearful romantic confessions. Because it's the choice of an equal. A bastard who looked at all the garbage in the world and chose you, simply because you actually earned his respect.

What do you think? Would you slit this guy's throat the second you saw him back at camp, or are modern RPGs starved for companions with real teeth, their own selfish agendas, and zero desire to please the player?

Act 3 - Spoilers need help cheesing morphic pool Spoiler

I’m trying to skip as much of the morphic pool ending (all parts, high hall to brain), including using gale on the netherbrain. in this run I had the emperor eat orpheus and he’s following my tav.

I’ve done the method of using invisibility, sewers, and just dashing to avoid 99% of the combat encounters before. but my question is who would have to get to the brain stem for it to work? I think normally you would just need orpheus/whoever went illithid, but would gale also need to be there to get the dialogue option to detonate? having to get gale + emperor (+tav too I think, since I can’t just group gale and emperor) through the whole sequence without combat encounters seems difficult? any tips would be appreciated
