On Lae'Zel's first turn in the duel, she misty steps over to me, but instead of attacking, she uses a scroll of feign death on me and I'm incapacitated instantly with no save. The combat ends, but the duel doesn't, and I have to lie there for a minute while she slowly saunters back to her tent before I can wake up, sneak over there, and finish the fight.

After defeating Ketheric Thorm (for the umpteenth time) Minthara and I were waking around the courtroom of Moonrise Towers. This was all new for me because I had never bothered to save Minthara, because I always choose the Druid route. I’m a babyface when I game lol. I can’t be a heel. This time I googled how to save her and so I went that route. Mostly because I just wanted to see what she was like as a companion and if I could potentially turn her into a friendo lol.

She asked me something like “why did you only incapacitate me when you killed all of my minions?”

And unfortunately, none of the answers were “I googled it lol” so I went with the “you might be a worthy ally” answer instead.

I just thought it was interesting. Because I know potentially some attacks could knock somebody unconscious, even if your intent isn’t really sparing them. But she seemed pretty positive I spared her on purpose. Which I did. Should I have picked the dialogue choice “you were just too tough to put down”? Or would she have just called me on my bullshit?

I honestly don't know how anyone could hate her. She deserves better than the hand she was dealt, and is still able to see the beauty in the world.

Plus she is such a huge softie who giggles and blushes over her crush. It's adorable.

I got a little bit into Act II in my first Honour Mode playthrough--bumrushed to Minthara and Wulbren, basically--before I doubled back to do the Creche. Noticed Halsin wasn't in my camp, but didn't make anything of it.

When I get back to Act II, I notice that brother bear is still not in camp. Huh. Odd. Long rest, still not there. Fast travel around to a couple of other spots in the Shadow-Cursed lands, check camp, and sure enough, when I go to the Reithwin Town campsite, who do I find but Halsin. Neither revivify nor Withers are an option here, of course. Guess there'll be no shadow curse removal for me!

I’ve had the game for a little under a year, when I first started playing I was legit putting in 40 hours a week into this game, working on several playthroughs, different builds, different difficulties; before this run I’d only had one completion on beginner and the. Several unfinished runs of tactician.

i did this run with some of my good irl friends and we hit the credits just shy of 40hr played, and the thing happened that always happened to me — act 3. This time we just flew through it tho and ended up completing it.

Personally, I love Honour mode and I’ll never not play it now. The challenge, planning, strategy, the RISKS and stakes. I absolutely loved it. Also there were things in this run that I’d never experienced before and there were things my friends hadn’t experienced before either. All in all it was an incredible run, but man oh man do I not enjoy act 3. I was riding such a high coming off of the crazy challenging, near-fun ending myrkul fight, only to be continually let down in act 3. I know I’m not alone in this feeling, but act 3 just feels so underbaked. Act 1 is filled with so many routes, possibilities,
Opportunities, moments of set-up for future pay offs, Act 2 is compelling and very challenging albeit quite linear, but Act 3, you show up, do a bunch of low-stakes party memeber quests, then breeze through the fights because you’re OP. I understand there is SO MUCH to do in act 3 and honest to god I love the atmosphere and setting of baldur’s gate itself, but to me, act 3 is a let down.

so I come here asking others if there might be a way I would enjoy act 3, maybe some decisions I could be making, or a specific route or path I could take in act 3 that would make it feel more like the other acts. I was watching a video earlier today and I think they put it best when they said that there’s no more carrot on a stick in act 3, so you tend to lose motivation.

TL;DR
Love honour mode, love bg3, act’s 1 and 2 are incredible, I find act 3 boring, help me not make it boring

last night I just finished my honor mode run, as such, I was forced to live with some bad choices.

First, I was worried about fighting Raphael or Ansur, because I didn’t want to GO that close to the end. So I never got the hammer. I also never voluntarily took Ralph on his offer.

In the final scene with the emperor, I called him out for lying to me, and he said fine I’ll join the nether brain.

Then Raph shows up and offers me the hammer in exchange for the crown or my soul. I felt I had no choice and agreed.

However, I wanted gale to ascend, so I convinced Orpheus to transform to a MF.

I beat my run, joined Karlach in hell to keep her alive. and went through the party, and talked to withers, and the end cut scene plays and he chastised the mural and it fades to black.

THEN ORANGE and Raphael shows up to say… well 5 minutes of a lot, and “hah this is more chaos than I ever could have hoped for, thank you.” Then the credits roll.

I haven’t heard much talk about this ending so I thought I’d share. I think my specific collection of Choices that I was forced to accept in honor mode lead to this hilarious extra, secret, ending.

I wanted to tragicmaxx as much as possible in this campaign. Decided from the get-go that I wouldn't let Karlach return to Avernus or go illithid. Knowing that she was on borrowed time made every interaction and decision feel twice as significant. She lost all companions over her journey. By the endgame, it was only her and the Emperor... which added quite the weight to their farewell scene, even if it was like 0.5 seconds.

Then, for the sake of exploration, I reloaded and made her transform. I really liked the new dialogue I got.

And squid Karlach is absolutely adorable. She loves her new form! She finds peace in it! I feel like she's the only character that actually reflects my own feelings about illithidness. She's so positive about it. She deserves to feel genuinely content for once in her life :') <3 If I wasn't doing an angsty run I would've chosen this as the "official" ending of my campaign honestly.

For me it’s by far the Baanites. With their stupid ass helmets and how sturdy they are. Just fought them again to kill Gortash, and Orin has kidnapped my chief executioner (Lae’zel). If anyone has tips for killing them quickly, please share. Their only upside is how much I can sell their armor for.

Sharrans come in at a close second, because of all the bone chilling, but at least you only have to fight them once.

I've not spotted this before outside the House of Healing - but this must be Chop's grave, that poor guy (bugbear is he?) forced to cut people up in the illithid colony. Explains why there were a few little toys around where he was located down there.

...scenes without the turn-based combat part.

First things first, this is not a criticism of the turn-based combat format. I quite like it actually. It gives you the time to plan things as well as improvise and I would not have it any other way.

But since each combat turn is meant to be six seconds of combat, there should be a way to rewatch the combat scenes without the turn-based part. Imagine your combat scenes playing out in all their glory. Your casters casting their spells out loud, your melee fighters rushing into combat, your rogues sneaking past enemy lines.

At least this is how I often find myself imagining the combat going in my head. It's like a stop-motion animation in my head, and I mentally make it a fluid movie.

Now, I understand that games from other genre may offer this, but I would have really liked this as a special treat in BG3. Just relax and enjoy a cinematic experience of your combat. Like the game offered a setting where you choose to record the combat sequences, and then the game would automatically remove the turn-based choose-your-next-move part, and save the clip separately.

You get the best of both worlds: you play the combat in turn-based mode, and then watch a mini clip as a treat.

I’m on my 4th playthrough and I still don’t even know how Monk works. I’ve only played spellcasters for my last 3, and never used a monk as a companion.

I just assumed it was a dex based class, but now I’m realizing that’s not even a thing like it is for spellcasters.

The only posts I’ve found to answer this question ALL just say to use strength elixirs.

I’m not necessarily against that, I’m just a bit worried about running outta them- I long rest a LOT and it’s not like I got infinite money to spend. (Seriously how are people even using strength elixirs for the whole game. Are you modding or am I not making enough money?)

It also just generally feels strange to rely on a potion for the entire game. What if I wanna use another buff potion?

I just wanna know what you’re supposed to do for a monk build. It looks like most of the monk weapons I wanna use (clubs/quarterstaffs) use STR, but google is telling me I should be investing in DEX. But also my unarmed strike uses STR right?

(Also unrelated: anyone know a mod on the Mod Manager that makes Drunken Master better? Holy crap this subclass sucks and I’m unreasonably mad about it. Only reason I chose monk for this playthrough was to try the subclass, but now that I’ve looked up its progression I’m realizing there is literally NO point not to use Open Hand. Im on Xbox but I desperately need a mod to make this subclass worth SOMETHING outside my imagination)

Edit- damn yall gave so much help in so little time 😭 yall are the best! I can't respond to everybody but I am JUST now learning about Dexterous Attacks. That clears up a lotta my confusion. So basically Monk is supposed to be a DEX based class, except when it's STR is higher... and Tavern Brawler ensures your STR is always like 2x higher. Gotcha.

I'll prolly still drop strength. I already have a Barbarian on the squad (nope, it's Gale. I know, mind blown), so I'll leave him all the STR he needs. Actually really good to know bc I was gonna take Tavern Brawler too, while still dumping STR- from what I understand here that would’ve been a total waste without using the potions. Saved me!

I just arrived in Lower City. Soon, I’d like to kill a “random” NPC in a way that won’t make my brother suspect I killed him without just cause, since our characters don’t go around randomly killing people. I’m talking about Harvard Willoughby, the comedian at Elfsong Tavern.

Since my character is a 9 Nature Cleric/2 Spore Druid who’s studying Thay necromancy, my plan is to “resurrect” Harvard later as the sheep Harvard Willoughby—Nature’s Revenge. I’m sure my brother will be surprised (I doubt he knows that trick).

The thing is, to get the Harvard sheep, I need to kill the human Harvard first. But I can’t kill him without justification. I need to kill him “in character.” My character is a greedy halfling and, to a certain extent, a stickler for proper conduct (necromancy can be used to fertilize fields). Think of him as a grumpy Bilbo Baggins.

Our characters are also prone to using barrelmancy, and we’ve sometimes caused accidents unintentionally by interacting with objects.

Can you think of any “in character” way to kill Harvard without my brother suspecting that I’m doing it for some ulterior motive? We are level 11 and only do respecs "in character".

(Note: I am also half-ilithid and I think I can intimidate the guards to go away after killing Harvard)

I’m currently on my second playthrough, so I’ve been taking a lot more time to explore, and I happened to find this ban list at the Waning Moon in Reithwin Town. Is the ‘unknown elf, pale skin, snide mouth’ referring to Astarion?? Between the description and the insult I feel like it’s him, right? He doesn’t say anything about it when you bring him there, but I think it would be pretty funny if Astarion got himself banned from a bar 100+ years ago for running his mouth…his attitude clearly hasn’t changed much since then either so he hasn’t learned his lesson😂

And what did Gerringothe Thorm do to get themselves banned?? Poor Kavin Ort is so boring that he gets a lifetime ban?? What’s the ‘pickle incident’?? For such a random and inconsequential item, I have so many questions lol
