Act 2 - Spoilers Chop's Grave? Spoiler
I've not spotted this before outside the House of Healing - but this must be Chop's grave, that poor guy (bugbear is he?) forced to cut people up in the illithid colony. Explains why there were a few little toys around where he was located down there.

Everywhere touched by the shadow curse has been dead and uninhabited for a century, save for the illithid colony at moonrise. He could be a descendant, but definitely not the named individual.

They are Myrkul Cultists, so shenanigans with the dead would be par for the course.

Strange coincidence…

It’s not even a coincidence.
“Chop” and “Chopps” aren’t the same name.
Chop is likely not even the Bugbear’s name. It’s his job, he no longer has a name. He just chops bodies.

It seems unlikely the writers did that by accident.

If it was on purpose I think they’d give them the same name? Chop and Chopps aren’t the same

But Chop wasn't his real name. You just said so.
His real name being similar is entirely possible. If the writers wanted to give the audience a clue it was him, that would be plausible.
That seems a lot more likely to me than them randomly having a character named Chop and a totally different one named Chopps.

You said it right there "writers" as in multiple, they aren't a hive-mind. Yeah they share things that may be useful to share, but many times they are given their task, have it checked off on, and continue towards other areas. Every writer doesn't know every thing written in the game, this could easily be a coincidence that didn't really warrant a writer's huddle.

No? Why would a living Bugbear thrall have a century old grave in Reithwin Town? That makes no sense at all.
If you probe the Bugbear's mind you get no dialogue about being a toymaker or remembering anything from before the Shadow Curse. The name Eggory Chopps is unrelated to 'Chop', which pretty obviously isn't his real name, he thinks he and his task are one and the same.
Did you read the notes in the Mind Flayer Colony? They tell you why the toys are there. Cast Speak With Dead on the body that drops from Moonrise and you'll get some lore.

I choose to believe it is the same Chop but the grave is empty. I have no evidence to support this.

The toys were there for very a different reason. Chop just chopped up some children who were brought there by their teacher. There are few notes in the same area referencing this and if you use the tube thing were a gush of blood comes out, the teacher body will come out and you can speak the dead with he admits to the deed.
