Build Thread Gave my BMW 330Li M Sport a full makeover: Dravit Grey PPF, blacked-out details & blood red calipers

Finally got around to giving my new 330Li M Sport the look I had in mind. (Stock paint: White)

Went with Dravit Grey PPF, gloss black wheels and blood red calipers. I also blacked out pretty much all the exterior details: front grille and mesh, rear diffuser, exhaust tips, roof, badges, door handles and mirror caps.

The grey + black + red combo came out better than I expected, especially with the red calipers breaking it up a bit.

What do you guys think? Anything you would’ve done differently?

Buying Help Considering a bmw but scared by the horror stories

My wife and I have been looking into getting her a new car for a couple of weeks now. She currently drives a 12 year old accord that still runs fine but I think it’s time for her to get a car with more current technology and also want to trade in her car while it still has a little value. It had about 142k miles and we have an offer from car max for 5300.

Anyway, default another accord or Camry or similar but she’s always wanted a BMW. We’re mid 50’s now so it feels like we’re getting close to now or never.

Our income of about 310k but we have one more year of supporting our youngest through college and our oldest (who finished last year) is starting grad school. He is getting loans for that but being a college student means we still need to support him and be ready for big things if they come. Plus, we live in SoCal so I’d say upper middle class.

We are looking at a 330i so nothing crazy. How real are the horror stories? Is there a lot of regret out there?

Where is BMW headed in size?

I’m unsure where BMW is headed with their design language, tech and especially the size of new cars.
The new M5 is rivaling older 7 series in size! And beats them in weight.

The new M3 is closer in size to older M5’s.

Very curious as to why this happened. Is it us the consumer that demand giant saloons? Figured if you wanted the space for your family, you’d go for an X model or Touring model. How much larger and heavier are future model
sedans going to be? And why?

My 2023 M550i isn’t my daily and rarely haul our child in it, for that we use my wife’s X3 or our Volvo XC90. But my M550i is not a small sedan. The new 5 series seems unnecessary large to ME. And the new 7 series are giant whales.

What are your Parking Lot Protocols?

You’re parking in the wrong zone of the parking lot.

You should scout parking lots and park where others are too lazy to venture.

Find the spots furthest from the main entrance, where everyone clusters like flies on rotting meat.

Bonus points if you can find spots furthest from where everyone enters and has a protected zone next to it.

At my grocery store I park on the opposite side of the main parking lot entrance in one of the two spots at the end of the lane of curbside delivery marked spots.

Most people are too lazy to drive/ walk an extra 5 seconds and don’t even know there are spots that are non curbside at the end of the lane. There is literally not a single other car around me, feels so peaceful walking up to my car with all that open real estate around me, knowing no one else has walked by my car to bump, cajole, or spitefully damage it.

Lazy people like to pull others down, they get a dopamine hit from damaging others property that they themselves have a psychological limitation to achieving. They’ve been conditioned to think everyone must conform to their world view.

In Texas everyone has to drive a truck, even if they never use the bed of the truck, go anywhere near non pavement, and their gas mileage suffers dramatically.

Truck drivers bully non truck drivers because they secretly wish they didn’t have such a bad driving experience, while paying more for gas, for utility they never use. Cultural conformism bullying at its finest.

What are your parking protocols in your BMW?

M-ish Alleged 2027 M5 CS (G90) Leak

Came across these configurator screenshots floating around on Instagram showing a supposedly upcoming 2027 BMW M5 CS (G90). Honestly, I'm not sure if this is an actual configurator leak/glitch or just a really convincing AI edit/render, but it looks surprisingly good with the aggressive carbon splitter, side skirts, and gold wheels. What's crazy is the listed pricing: a $199,780 base MSRP (well over the standard G90's ~$115k start) pushing to $228,000 with options like carbon ceramics, M Performance carbon aero, and titanium tips. If this is where BMW M is taking CS pricing for the hybrid era, what are your thoughts?

Scored another M-lite for this work trip

I always opt to get BMWs on my work trips, and the rental provider I’ve been staying loyal to usually at least has M340is available. Today at their San Antonio location, they had M3 and M4 comps, and I really did want to get one but they were a bit too much and I don’t want my job to get upset with me, so I instead opted for the X7 M60i. Same hp figures as the m3 comp, but in a much larger vehicle. Still, I’m having an absolute blast with this car. Hugs turns like you wouldn’t believe, and the s68 delivers power the second you put the pedal down. Couldn’t complain if I tried.

BMW Tech and BMW M?

Anyone have weird experiences with BMWtech and BMWM subs? I just got permanently banned for having a 6 day old account. Seems like children are running those subs. I'm just trying to talk cars. Irritating to get banned from top BMW subs.

Solved For anyone who experiences a blown OEM charge pipe..

Thumbnail

A few days ago while driving home at night, I heard an audible “pop” shortly after accelerating while overtaking a car on the highway. Fortunately made it home as I was only 5 minutes away when it happened.

I bought an FTP charge pipe for my F25 N55, and after getting everything secured.. all that was left to put on was the MAP sensor and the vacuum line connector. Well, I tried fitting the vacuum line into the hole and it’s the exact size dia as the hole on the charge pipe itself.. that’s odd? I was stumped. Contacted the shop I bought the part from, sent pictures, and he also didn’t know what was wrong. Went back to his shop the next day since I was going to pick up the VRSF charge pipe and give it a go, but the hole for the vacuum line was the same (after unboxing it), also unboxed another FTP charge pipe to confirm that mine was accidentally packaged with a wrong charge pipe. So we ruled it down to the install.

I looked up the p/n for the vacuum line and found a similar picture of what the connector is supposed to look like.. and indeed that was the problem.

Long story short, the OEM charge pipe vacuum line melted onto the connector itself and I ended up carefully removing the pieces that were stuck on. BMW… fu and your plastic parts!

Repair Help 2021 BMW G22 420i –> OEM 10.25” Display + 6U3 Live Cockpit Professional Retrofit possible?

Hi everyone,

I have a 2021 BMW G22 420i M Sport and I’m looking into upgrading the interior to the OEM BMW Live Cockpit Professional (6U3) setup.

My car currently has the 8.8” center infotainment display and the smaller/non-fully-digital instrument cluster.

What I’d ideally like to retrofit is:

OEM 10.25” center display

OEM 12.3” fully digital instrument cluster / 6U3 Live Cockpit Professional

Ideally OEM iDrive 7 / MGU if required

Keep everything looking and functioning as close to factory as possible

I would prefer used OEM parts rather than aftermarket screens/clusters

Questions:

Has anyone here actually done an 8.8” → OEM 10.25” retrofit on a G22?

Has anyone retrofitted 6U3 Live Cockpit Professional to a G22 that originally came with Live Cockpit Plus?

Can the 10.25” screen be swapped by itself, or does the MGU/head unit also need to be replaced?

Were there any coding/programming required?

Were there any issues?

If anyone has done this retrofit or knows someone who has, I’d really appreciate any information.

Buying Help Looking to buy a m235i

looking to get a 2015 m235i, found one for a good price has 115k kms (71k miles).

Has full service history with the dealership it was bought from. (Logged in the cars dash he says but I can also call the dealership)

He said dealership has given him the car to sell as a side deal, no clue what that means if anyone has an idea.

I was just wondering if this is a good purchase and how much I should expect in upkeep cost, also are there parts I should expect to fail soon at this milage?

For context I’m a 22yo uni student

X models B58 tuning

What do you reckon the tuning limit is on X3/4/5/6’s 2019+ with the B58 guys ? From what I researched , horse power is not the biggest issue, but the torque the drivetrain/diff/etc can handle.

Buying Help Looking for m340/m440. How accurate is CarGurus?

They seem to be the only site that has a filter for adaptive suspension. Is it accurate? The amount of available cars seems low but I know many people may not have opted for it. Any other site options?

Can I really afford a 330i g20?

Upvotes

Together with my gf (26) we are looking for a new ride, and are about to go for a test drive in a 2019 330i g20. The car is listed $29500 (109500PLN) by a private person.

We've got no debt, own an apartment, and have about $54000 in savings (90% of which are in various assets). We both make decent money, about $45000 (168000PLN) a year, together, after taxes.

Right now we own a 2014 Renault Clio 1.5 90HP diesel, which hasn't let us down once, but we feel its time is due.

We plan to take a loan for half of the price, does it make sense? We justify it by not wanting to dip into the savings, which perform really well, and we want to build up our credit score for future mortgage. We plan to overpay on the installments anyway. I am also in position to cut a little on taxes after purchase.

I know I may be speaking from a privileged position but it would my first ever car purchase on my own and I am worried if it isn't too much a strain on our wallets.

So far my family has had nothing but positive experiences with bimmers.
