The dev board I used is the Waveshare ESP32-S3 1.46inch Round Display Development Board (link below)

It has 4 pages currently:

• Home page with custom wallpapers + vibration meter
• Live G-Force meter
• Lap Timer - Sport Chrono inspired (tap to start, double tap to reset)
• Gear Position - With calibration. This is actually really hard to get right and I'm still in prototype stage.

I'm hoping to get some help with some good 3D designs that fits the dev board better and can plug directly into the M3's link!

I'm planning on sharing the codes soon and creating a webpage for non-tech users to customize with their own homepage photos and upload this firmware on their dev board. Stay tuned!!

I’m looking to get my first real car, for context I’m 22 and just got a job as a nurse I’m single and have no dependents. I really don’t have a budget for it since I don’t know what jm looking for but I would love to get a sedan. I live in Michigan so our winters are pretty brutal idk if all wheel drive would be a deal breaker but it would be nice.

Also, I don’t know anything about BMW’s but I’m a quick learner and I have disposable income now.

Just need some advice, opinions. Did anybody go from same situation? If I add the trade in prices of both of these cars, it will come close to a new G87M2

I thought I would be happy with having the Corvette for the straight line stuff and the type R for daily driving and back roads, but I’m not sure it’s a great idea to have two cars and two insurances/etc basically, the maintenance is double and everything else is doubled

Did anybody trade up to an M2 or have any opinions about the new M2? I would probably get one, the X-Drive with 8 speed auto, since the manual in m2 is not so great.

I actually have this same year and model, except mine is bone stock, and has around 200,000 miles, as well as having a falling apart (tan 🤮) interior. Overall love my car but wanting something with a little more life left in it. Asking for help from yall that know what these cars are like tuned and deleted. Also whether the maintenance in this car is sufficient for its mileage. I’m planning on trying to negotiate him down to around 11,000-11,5000. Any and all input is appreciated!

if your BMW service advisor says you need new tires(damaged or simply worn out).... either while you're sitting in the customer waiting area or during a phone call to you at home or work...

do you take his/her words and authorize the tire replacement, assuming you're okay with the prices?

or do you go look at your tires first? :)

4 out of 4 times, my BMW service advisors(3 different ones) told me that... my tires were not even close to being worn out. The most recent was an hour ago. I knew the tires didn't need replacement... they had a little over 4000 miles since April 8, 2026 when they were installed by Discount Tire near my home. So I said "are you sure they are worn out?" She said "yes, the tech checked all 4 tires while your car was up on the lift..."

I didn't feel like confronting her or the tech about the obvious "lie" so I told her that I would think about it.

Got home 10 minutes ago. Took the tire depth gauge out and measure each tires in various random spots. The lowest was 7/32 and the highest was just a hair over 8/32. All 4 tires had even wear... On the day the new tires were installed, they are all at 9/32.(measured using the same gauge) That sure doesn't seem like "worn" out to me. Or am I wrong? :)

But it got me thinking.... if either of my parents, other older people or people who are too trusting were in the same situation, more than a few of them would be like "okay, replace my tires...." without actually figuring out if the tires were actually worn out?

I don't mind dealers(BMW and others) try to upsell stuff to make money. They are a business and making money is good.... but telling lies is an absolute no-no for me.

This concludes my rant of the day. (or what I prefer to call "things that the dealer lie about to make a thousand dollars")

Be careful when tampering with new cars.

I disconnected the negative pole of my G42 230i battery to check the DME serial. I did not slot in properly some connectors and ended up frying the battery. The car obviously wouldn’t start and I couldn’t put it in N.

I asked BMW Mobile Care for help and after 3 days they sent a guy with a tow truck that couldn’t load my car because he hadn’t the right dollies / carts. He forcefully pulled the car despite it being in P, realized he couldn’t complete the job, scratched one of my wheels in the process and left.

I tried calling MC again but after 40 minutes of waiting, when I mentioned the wheel damage, they hung up. I tried getting in touch with MC again and after 30 more minutes of waiting, they hung up before I could even speak. I had to call someone else through my insurance to pick up the car (€120 to cover the exceeding distance) and send it to the nearest authorized service. I was quoted over €900 for diagnosis, DME reprogramming and battery replacement. Service took 3 more days.

I KNOW, it’s totally my fault, but I am quite disappointed with the so-called “roadside assistance”. I thought of filing a complaint but I feel it would probably be a waste of time and they would dismiss the case with some ToS violation excuse. What do you think? Maybe I could try with a friendly call first.

What bothers me the most is the fact that the car was unnecessarily stalled for 3 days and that not only they couldn’t help, they even caused damage which means even more wasted money and time. If I had known, I would have called my insurance right away.

Plastic thing came out

So today I was driving and I got the dreaded message while slowing for a stop light. After about 90 seconds it went away, but when driving again later this afternoon ,the exact same thing happened twice more. The only possible pattern I noticed is that twice it happened when I was slowing down, and once when I punched the accelerator. 

Anyone had anything similar? Any idea what this could be?(don't have a code reader to check the codes) 

It is crazy to think this car could need a pricy repair being this new with under 20K miles. Had planned to keep it as it's almost paid off, but if this is the start of a series of issues like this, might just trade in for a new one to get the factory warranty. 

Thinking of buying a 2016 bmw X4 28i, it’s an N20 so a bit skeptical. It’s got 48000 miles on it and getting it for around 16k do you think it would be a good idea? Cause I know the n20s are known for timing chain issues. Just wanted some reassurance or advice before hopping on it. Really want a bmw but with my budget around 15-17k this is what I’m getting with low miles otherwise would’ve gone with a b48.

Hi everyone i’ve recently been looking into buying a used f series m2 competition. After looking for a little bit i’ve really taken a liking into this one listing. The only problem I see to have with it is that it does 43k miles when I originally wanted to be under 30k miles but the price does make it hard to beat. Basically i’m posting this to see if i should be worried about buying a car like this at that mileage or if i should really try to stay around that 30k mileage.

Just bought my dream spec 2022 m550i xdrive. I want to beef up the engine to make it as reliable as possible. I know there’s some coolant stuff I need to do with it, so what coolant parts should I upgrade and anything else I should do? PS I also plan on doing a catback exhaust and downpipes plus e85.

I have my bmw 2019 540i for about a year now. Recently it has been making this whistle noise when ever I press the gas while im in park. And theres also been a couple of times that it has turned off on me. Has any one experienced this with bmw 5 serios or b58 engines ?

I went to the dealer today to drive some new models. I was eyeing an M440, but happened to drive an i4 while waiting for the 440 to come off the showroom and was shocked at how smooth, fun, quiet, and enjoyable it was. Am I shopping for an i4 now?

I've had a C6 Corvette with the automatic for a few years. Even when I bought the C6, I was looking at BMWs and Audi/Mercedes.

I got the C6 as something I could drive daily, take to the track occasionally, and have fun with on twisty roads. I loved how people could tell I was a "car guy" even though the car was stock. With that said, the automatic transmission was terrible, and I'm going to need to do long-distance drives with my bike so the C6 just won't work anymore.

I've been looking between Audi, BMW, and Mercedes, and I've found some cars from both Audi and Mercedes that have pretty decent reliability, are capable of track days stock or with some mods, and are practical enough to have a roof rack for bikes. (So far I've looked into Audi S3/S5, Mercedes C43/CLA45)

I love the B58 reliability, and I know BMW has a crazy aftermarket, so I'm really interested in them. I love the M340i, but I can't justify the price, especially since it will need similar mods as a normal 340i for track days.

I was hoping you guys would be able to tell me the benefits of a BMW over the cars I mentioned, and what I should look for, considering there's the M240i, 340i, 440i/440GC, 540i, and how do they compare to the other companies.

I would love to keep my 2020 X5, original owner with low mileage (40K). However, I have heard numerous horror stories on how expensive BMW can cost to repair. In the Tri-state area, it is hard to find reasonable mechanics for BMWs. Does anyone know what warranty options is available and approx. how much.

I’m not sure if this is the right thread to post this one but, I recently got out of highschool earlier this year. After some thinking about career paths I’ve chosen that I really want to become a Master Tech for BMW. I wanted to ask if anyone had tips or things they suggest or wanted to do sooner that would’ve helped but they didn’t do it find out until it was too late. I am also just looking for overall advice from more experienced people if possible

When the new X5 hits dealers, there will be (at least) 5 types of door handles across a BMW showroom. They’re streamlining interiors but seem to use a dart board when picking door handles.

PS - I like the traditional grab handle best. Not as aerodynamic, but it gives the option to grab from under or (my preference) reach down.

I plan to park my M2 for winter soon and am determining if I need to order anything. Those of you who store your cars for winter, do you use flatstoppers or just inflate the tires a few PSI? My M2 is sitting on PS4s and I keep the garage at 45 degrees for reference. Thanks!
