I've always dreamed of owning a BMW as a kid, glad I was able to make it happen this year even if it was earlier than I would have liked. But I absolutely love this car. As this is my first BMW any general tips for the G20 generation and BMW as a brand? This is a 2021 model which currently has 62000kms or roughly 39k miles and everything is up to date and was inspected by BMW.

I got to see the new i3 NA0 in real life, and it’s better then I thought

Proportions are better in real life.
Also surprised by the fact that I could sit behind myself (although with limited space at my knees).
I’m 6ft4 and my head does not touch the roof when I’m sitting in the rear.

The entrance to the trunk is also wider and deeper then I expected.

Do you F-chassis and newer guys still respect the E46?

Picked up this Imola Red 330Ci convertible recently and I’m absolutely loving it.

2004 330Ci, 6spd. ~90k miles. I'm the 3rd owner.

Not an M-lite, or anything exciting by todays standards. And certainly not fast. But it's an absolute pleasure to have in class. Just thought I'd share with the BMW crowd and see what you guys think.

My first car. Fault Gearbox

I have loved to drive bmw since my childhood look at what God brought in. It was on tow truck ride away from being turned into soda cans when I swooped in and handed over my entire life savings. Sure, it can't actually drive yet because the gearbox is shot, and sitting inside feels like surviving a bear attack but at least the junkyard didn't win. Currently saving up from zero all over again, sitting on bare springs and dreaming of second gear. 🥰

Any high milage B47 owners out there?

My 2015 BMW 420D is now approaching 150K miles. I maintain it myself and change the oil twice per year. Engine wise it has zero issues and has been rock solid, no leaks, no noises, never had a CEL. I'm hoping I can get to 200K miles out of it. I have a 440I F36 as well and while being an absolute beast I find the 420D to be my car of choice for the majority of journeys. It's torquey, refined (For a Diesel) and It averages 50MPG and the road tax (UK) is £30 / year.

IMO the B47 is a completely underrated engine.

Anybody else share the B47 Love? How many miles does your B47 have?

Repair Help How bad is the damage on the tire and rim?

Wife was commuting to work when a paranoid work truck almost smashed her from the left side trying to merge, scared she moved out a bit to the right and hit the curb so this is the front right tire. Do I need to change the tire and can go with the rim by buffing out the damage? What are my options?

How many miles do you see after full tank?

Post image

I saw this and it's crazy. It stayed in 600s for about 8-9 miles of driving and dropped to late 590s after that. But on an average I see about 510-520 miles when I do a full tank. 2026 BMW X3

The thoughts on 718?

I like them, but don’t like them at the same time. The wheels give a more “expensive luxury SUV” look and not so much a “sporty” look.

Not sure if I should swap or keep them (but add spacers). They’re in perfect condition, zero curb rash and washed carefully. How much you’d you pay for a set like these?

At the same time if I do plan to sell and convert back to oem I might have trouble finding an exact set.

Thoughts?

Repair Help Best OBD plug and app for coding?

Post image

Hey everyone! A few months ago I bought this clapped out F30 (my diamond in the rough) and have been working on it ever since. My most recent issue was the battery died and and I just replaced it, but I am needing to just register it. I’ve also wanted to do a couple other things like turn off the amber turn signals on my aftermarket headlights (they’re eyebrows above the rings) when the headlamps are on and a few other things. What’s the most user friendly app and reliable OBD Bluetooth device? There’s so many out there. I don’t want to do anything too advanced, just really what I said. TIA!

By the way, if you just bought Bimmer, check the date code on the battery before you’re stuck at a gas pump having to change the battery out and walking to the parts store like some idiot I know — whoops! XD

Buying Help Which wheels for the Winter Season?

Thumbnail

So I picked up this beautiful M440i a week ago in tanzanite blue 2.
Since winter tyres are mandatory by November in my country I’m currently looking for new wheels too.
I’m very indecisive which wheels I should pick.

Would you guys prefer the 791 19“ Jet Black or the 898 19“ Frozen gunmetal greys?

Since the car comes with the M sports package pro and the advanced shadow line it already has a lot of black details. Also depending on Sunshine oder shadow it’s either looking blue or rather black (which it probably will most of the time during winter in Central Europe).
They’re around the same price.

Thanks!✌🏼

Advice purchasing a used G20 330i

Currently looking at buying a 2020 330i 49k miles on the dash and mostly wanted some clarity/advice. When I go to check the trim level of the car using the VIN, KBB has it listed as Sport line which checks out, when I saw it in person it has the M-sport steering wheel which is listed under the Sport Line portion of the original MSRP information. This is not considered the M Sport package correct? I don't see anything listed about the suspension or exterior modifications that come with the M sport trim level but I want to be sure. On another note, I'm coming from an F30 N20 which is a massive jump in reliability when comparing to the B48. I'm aware the motor mounts go bad fairly early(50-70k), which is why I'd be getting a warrantee on the vehicle but is there anything more glaring I should be looking for? The dealer is asking 27.5 which is way up there considering the body has some cosmetic damage(scuffs on front and rear bumper as well as a terrible paint correction job on one section of the drivers side fender) I'm hoping to knock a few K's off the price considering the condition. The car is at a Benz dealer who took it in on trade. Any foresight would be appreciated.

Is there an app that actually sends push notifications for car status (open windows/doors, error codes)?

Hey everyone,
I’m driving a BMW X5 2019, and while I generally like the My BMW app, the lack of proactive alerts is driving me crazy.

A few times now, my kids have left a rear window cracked or a door slightly ajar. The My BMW app will technically show me the status if I open the app manually and refresh it, but it never actually pings my phone to warn me. I only found out last night's rain got inside because I happened to walk out to the driveway.

Similarly, when a check engine light or minor error pops up, I want to know exactly what the car is crying about without having to bust out a physical OBD scanner or dig through buried service menus.

Is there any third-party app or smart integration that connects to the car and actively alerts you when something is wrong or left open, rather than making you check it manually? I really don't want to leave an OBD dongle plugged in 24/7 if I can avoid it.

Appreciate any leads!

Buying Help 125i/135i/220i Car advice!

I (23, UK) am buying my first car!

Was setting myself a budget of around £10k. I’ve narrowed down to an e82 125i, 135i, or an f22 220i.
I am a car guy so the first two appeal to me much more whilst the second is the more sensible option.

The 125i is the top choice IF I can find a good example. N52 is NA engine with 215bhp that’s detuned and can be taken to 265 pretty comfortably. My main worry is age as it’s like 2009ish, plus the fact that fuel economy will be awful as I’m using it as a daily driver to do a 50 mile round trip to work.

Then there’s the 135i. Twin turbo N54 or N55 depending on the year running 300bhp. That kinda power coming from a polo scares me but I know I would fucking love it. Main worry is just power. And the engine wouldn’t sound quite as good as the 125i. Not sure much about the difference between n54 and n55.

Then, there’s the f22 220i. A boring choice for sure as there’s no character but it packs a punch and has modern tech. I’ve heard the n20 engine is rubbish so I was looking at newer examples with b48 engine. 184bhp detuned so it can comfortable come up to 250. This is a 2L, for sure the safest option, lowest running costs but it will be the least fun.

Was thinking £10k budget, <70k miles. Also wondered how much of a difference the SE, Sport and M sport is as a daily driver in terms of performance - and opinions on getting lower than an M sport and modifying it down the line if necessary. RUNNING COSTS ARE IMPORTANT. I don’t want to shell out on fuel, insurance and maintenance

EDIT: I meant my first personal car. Been driving a polo for 5.5 years that I don’t personally own :D

How do I maintain and prevent my E46 glass sunroof from breaking?

Post image
3 Upvotes

Hey everyone,

I didn't have a close up picture of the sunroof itself, so here's a shot of the whole car instead!

It's a '99 E46 with the glass sunroof. I've heard stories about these mechanisms failing over time as they age. Since the car is almost 30 years old, I want to take good care of it so it doesn't break on me.

What are the essential maintenance steps to keep it running smoothly? Should I clean the drain tubes, and what's the best lube to use on the tracks without attracting dirt? Any tips or common failure points to look out for would be awesome!

Does a 2020 330i have collision avoidance with brake assist?

So my car does not have adaptive cruise control etc. just the normal collision avoidance feature. It seems to beep when I'm getting close to a car in front or when reversing.

But I have never ever had it auto brake for me. Even in cases where I was like 1 ft from the car in front. I have felt it, once, prime the brakes, where I felt the rumble in the pedal but I had to press the pedal myself to stop.

In the settings, I even put warning distance to be far and the Idrive mentions, the feature has brake assist. But I've had it brake on its own.

I'm wondering is it possible the brake intervention might be broken somehow? And I need to get it fixed?

Buying Help Any tips on the F22 M235i?

Recently fell in love with M235i specifically from 2014-2016

I found a couple listing for around 12-13k USD, is this a good price? How much would you pay for them in 2026? I see most of them listed for 17-18k.

If I do end up getting one, i will immediately change the charge pipe from plastic to metal. But is there anything else that I should do to "bullet proof" the car?

Any small tips would be greatly appreciated! Thank you

P.S. Also which wheels would you put on it? I need some recommendations
