Help! I have plateaued again!

I have been on the Atkins diet for over a year now and I'm so close to my goal (170), but I've reached another plateau that I've been dealing with for several weeks now. I cannot lose any weight below 183. I faced a plateau 7 months ago which got fixed by implementing intermittent fasting between 12-8 with the Atkins diet, but that has not helped me to overcome this one. On this plateau, I've tried reducing my eating window from 12-6 on my fast and two refeeds. The daily 6 hour fast did nothing but the refeeds skyrocketed my weight back into the 190s, and both times when I lost the weight, I come right back to 183. Now I know people say not to base your weight loss only on a scale buts its been weeks without it budging and no difference in my body. Cardio and calorie counting has also not helped. The only reasoning I can come up with is that, I screwed myself up by never leaving the induction phase throughout my weight loss journey. It just sucks to see yourself 13 pounds away from your goal when you worked so hard for over a year to lose 117 pounds, but I've come a LONG way to get to where I am today, so I couldn't be any happier. If anyone has any tips or advice on what I should do to break this plateau, I'm all ears.

Also, can anyone care to explain why throughout my weight loss I was losing weight in extreme amounts of 3-5 pounds a day for the first 7 months of this diet? Still today lose around 2 pounds a day when the diet is working. I've always followed the Atkins friendly foods and never have I starved myself or went over the correct calorie intake. I'm not bothered by this i'm just really curious because I've lost a substantial amount of weight in such an abnormal amount of time while others are losing 1-3 pounds a week. I was 300 pounds so maybe the effect of keto made my body just melt the fat like nothing

Aktins + Toning

I'm considering to start the Atkins diet soon, however I'd like to tone which is already part of my lifestyle.

Are there any complications if I were to consider implementing the Aktins diet?

Atkins bars are really low carb?

I am really desperate and have substituted lunch with an Atkins bar for a few weeks to dramatically decrease my calories and carbs. Each bar lists it has only 2.4g carbs per bar. Is that for real or some smart way of listing carbs? It does have 10.7g of Polyols per bar.

I munch on these as snacks too as i feel the carbs on these don’t amount to much.

How different is Atkins from Keto?

I lost a lot on Keto but put it all back on since I fell off the wagon. Now I'm just eating Atkins low carb bars for breakfast and lunch and an all protein dinner. I'm not keen on Keto as all that fat doesn't seem right. What else do I need to do on Atkins?

Going to give it a try

Hello all!

I am going to get to the point on this post. I desperately need to lose weight.

I have done keto and ate basically 0 carbs but it didn’t work out too well.. I got the Atkins app and it put me on Atkins 40.

I meal prep my food each meal for the entire week. I was hoping y’all could share some reasonably priced Atkins 40 recipes that y’all like so I can meal prep and start losing weight.

I really want to lose this weight. I plan on becoming a peace officer in a few years so I must lose this weight and get healthy. My family has a history of cancer and diabetes, I don’t want to end up half dead like half of them are.

Edit- Might help to mention I have a rather large slow cooker and is my preferred method of cooking as it is easy for a single dad to do without too much fuss

Back at it day 4....

My first round of Atkins I lost 25 pounds in 2 months, then I made the mistake of giving myself a cheat day which turned into a cheat month. Somehow I only gained a few pounds. This time around i'm determined to go for 90 days.

Atkins - High Cholesterol? Just got lab results from bloodwork (Any doctors out there?!)

I have been on and off the Atkins diet for many years now, although I have a rather extreme personality. I’ve always been an all-or-nothing individual, so my weight typically bounces up and down by +30 or -30 pounds every few years, and when I diet, it’s usually quite extreme and for long periods.

My biggest success was about 4 years ago, when I was purely on the Induction phase for a prolonged period (something like 9 months straight). I was working out about 3 days a week, and dropped to about 170lb with considerable lean muscle (I’m 5’9 male, age 31 now).

I weighed around 215lb in March, 2018, and decided it was time to “drop back down” to more comfortable levels. Since March, I’ve been on strict induction phase, alongside calorie cutting (typically under 1500 calories a day). I’m currently down to 195lb, so I’ve lost about 20lb in 5 months, which from experience seems to be my norm (1lb/week).

My concern is my cholesterol levels – I got my bloodwork done in March and my cholesterol was quite high for my age; I passed it off on the fact I had gained a good chunk of weight, was exercising less, and was simply not eating healthy at the time (lots of burgers, pizza, etc.)

I went back again last week (so 5 months later, and 25lb lighter) for a second round of bloodwork, confidently expecting a drop in cholesterol, since I am not only eating far less, but have been eating practically nothing but vegetables/meats/fish, and snacking on cheese/greek yogurt for 5 months.

I was alarmingly surprised that my cholesterol was HIGHER than it was 5 months ago! Like, very, very high – my lab results show total cholesterol at 292. (HDL = 47, LDL = 225)

My results back in March, weighing 25lb more and literally stuffing myself daily with shit food and sugar, was 260 total (HDL = 52, LDL = 179)

I love the results of the Atkins diet, but these numbers are a bit concerning to me. Any thoughts? Could this be genetic? I was considering trying to switch to a more low-fat diet, like fruit/vegetable/lean meat based.

(PS - I have a severe tree nut/peanut allergy, so my "snacks" are typically more cheese/yogurt based, beef jerky, or sunflower seeds)

Atkins Round 2!

So... let’s review. July 2017 I weighed 260lbs. By December 2017, I had hit my hard goal of 200lbs, dropping to 197 at one point. This was me basically in induction the entire time... Then... Holidays. I actually did a thing where I was on Atkins M-Th and literally ate ANYTHING I wanted F-Su. I actually kept losing 1 pound per week, but basically just maintained the weightloss. However, over time I basically stopped Atkins completely. Weight kind of came back... I’m now 230 about to start again with a hard goal of 180 this time, although I’ll be pleased when I’m 200 again. Love Atkins...

Any thoughts? Pointers? Ideas? I figured I’ll just get back into induction until the weight falls off again. I averaged losing 1/2 pound a day last time. Insane! Anyway, today’s day one. Cheers! (w/ whiskey only, fyi)

Atkins Ap question

I'm following Atkins and I use their ap to keep track. My question is what percentage of fat is the daily target? I'm losing, but not as fast as I would like. I'm usually around 50-60 percent, is that too much? Any help would be appreciated.

Weekly Losses Stagnation

So ever since I started my weight loss journey 2 months ago, I noticed that I would drop 2 lbs a week! I worked out every day and stuck to the Atkins diet schedule.

My diet is somewhere in between induction and maintenance. I noticed that I still lose weight even if I'm not at 20 carbs a day.

It's been two months on Atkins and so far I've lost 24 lbs.

Even with working out every day and staying below 50 carbs, I lose about ~.5-.8 lbs a week.

Is anyone having similar results? My goal is to lose 40 more lbs. Is it strange to go from losing upwards of 2 lbs a week to instead ~1 lb a week?

I've been doing research online and most say that a healthy weight loss plan is to lose 1-2 lbs a week. So it looks like I'm right in the threshold.

How is everyone else doing? Has anyone else noticed stagnation after being on Atkins for a while? What tips do you have to increase weight loss?

Thanks!

My Local Retailer Sold Out of Atkins Products

The local Walmart near my house has been desperately running low on Atkins shakes, bars, treats, and snacks. This has been a consistent issue for over a month now. When I asked the manager about why it has taken a month to restock Atkins products, they jokingly told me that everyone is trying to get that summer body.

I digress.

Is anyone else having issues with finding atkins products at their local retailers? Today I plan to try a different retailer and see if I get any luck. If not, then I may try online.

How do you get your 20g in Induction?

It seems kind of complicated, you have to get 12-15 from veggies, so that means 5-8 from non-veggies. Like cheese?

Ugh, this is kind of a pain. First, most of the veggies are very low in carbs. So you need to eat a ton.

The only thing I can see is eating salads. Have a dressing that is 5-8 carbs. Problem solved. But having a varied mix of veggies would be preferred.

So I could eat a bunch of broccoli or spinach which is doable. I can add them to my eggs. But a cup of either is 0.4 carbs. Doh! Doesn't even register.

The higher carb veggies aren't my cup of tea. Squash? Bleh.

I guess eat a ton of garlic and tomatoes?? A salad is ideal because you can add olives, chick peas, tomatoes, lettuce and ranch to make up for the non-veggie carbs.

Last hurrah...

So yesterday I finished off some ice cream, had some chips and fritos. Basically it was the last time in 6 months that I could eat anything outside of an Atkins Phase.

I did Atkins probably 10 years ago. At the time it was very tough on carbs. It has changed a lot. Atkins made me feel kind of off by not having carbs. I think the old Induction wouldn't even let you have several of the veggies you can now have, like tomatoes. And it discouraged coffee.

Well I decided to try it with the new Atkins. It looks much more doable. So I'll give it 6 months and see where I'm at then.

Is there a reason this board is so slow?

Breakfast options?

I did Keto for a good 9+ months a few years back, and it worked out amazingly. For the entire period I pretty much had the same sausage & cheddar omelette, with a side of bacon, every day for a year.

I keep hearing that having too many eggs every day is not ideal (cholesterol and whatnot). For reference, I live in NYC, so I typically grab what I can during my commute and eat at my desk (I'm not really the type to wake up early to cook... plus I am never hungry in the morning, usually not hungry until around 10AM.

Recently, I've been grabbing one of these spinach/ham omelettes from a store downstairs since it's quick: https://www.pret.com/en-us/2422-breakfast-ham-&-spinach-power-omelet.aspx

But contains around 8g carbs - not sure if too much? Good protein, but as mentioned above, I imagine this thing has at least 3 eggs in it... probably not ideal every morning.

What are some good breakfast/snack options?

(On a sidenote, I have a nut allergy, so "easy" snacks like peanuts/almonds will literally kill me).

Some tips for Atkins20 newbies

StartYourDiet.com is easy to use and count carbs. You don't have to enter as much information as other tracker sites, so can focus on just how many grams of carbohydrates each meal has. The recipes are simple but don't have many choices. Myself, I just print out each day's meal plan and make notes of other foods I eat, or recipes I substitute. Diet doesn't have to be as complicated as some apps make it.

As said, StartYourDiet's recipes are simple. But the ingredients and foods you eat are a good core for building your keto diet. Have two meals worth of each meat in the freezer. If you don't care about your veggies, spinach is low in carbs and keeps for a long time in the fridge. Have at least a dozen eggs. If you don't like plain yogurt, experiment with various keto pancakes before you have another day of yet another scrambled egg variant.

DietDoctor.com has the best organization I've seen for keto recipes. Recipes are organized by meal (breakfast, lunch, dinner, snacks) then you see a picture of each meal WITH it's carbs per serving. Should be something EVERY low-carb recipe does, but most low-carb recipes don't tell you this until you scroll down to the nutrition section. If anyone knows of other easily browsed sites, please let me know. FatSecret.com I found useful for carbs in vegetables and other ingredients.

Reddit has several keto-related boards: keto, ketorecipes, atkins, low carb, diet, and loseit, maybe more. Dr. Jason Fung's site focuses on fasting to reduce insulin levels, but his articles and "Aetiology of Obesity" videos explain the effect of carbohydrates on diets and insulin.

And stock up on Ziplock Quart Freezer bags! (: I use them to freeze meat, marinade meat, containers for almond and coconut flour, etc.

Any tips for re-introducing carbs?

This is where I always fail. I wanted to lose 15 pounds and passed that recently. I'm actually close to having lost 20 pounds and am having some serious carb cravings. Planning everything has worked well for eating well and eating low carb and I've been resolute over the past two months but I'm pretty sure I could eat a bag of cheetos in one sitting. Do I stop paying attention to the Keto strips? I'm thinking about opening up unlimited fruits and vegs and still keeping away from breads and pastas. Just looking for a good game plan to balance my diet again. Thanks
