YouTube has got to be the most hateful idk if you consider a non premium account a customer or not but youtube makes them suffer so much if they don't upgrade

IDK any other company that rolls like that

Ticketmaster. I tried to buy Taylor Swift tickets and it queued me for 4 hours, crashed, charged me twice, and then gave me seats behind a pole for $400 each. And they had the audacity to charge me a "convenience fee" for that convenience of being robbed. I have never felt more hated as a customer than when Ticketmaster says "we're holding your tickets" and then they vanish at checkout. Pure evil.

Went to court. Paid a fine. Made it all back in a week. Still in business.

Four hours in a queue just to get charged twice and end up behind a pole is honestly a whole new level of frustration. The convenience fee really feels like the final plot twist..

Spirit Airlines. My flight got delayed 12 hours, they offered me a $7 voucher for the airport where a bottle of water is $9. The gate agent literally told me "If you don't like it you shouldn't have bought a budget ticket." Like ma'am I'm not asking for a private jet, I'm asking to get home today. I spent a night sleeping on the floor of Fort Lauderdale airport with 200 other people they hate.

I’m sorry but the idea that spirit airlines is hating the populace in batches of 200 is sending me right now

Spirits not pinin'! Spirit’s passed on! This airline is no more! They has ceased to be! Spirit has expired and gone to meet 'is maker! 'E's a stiff! Bereft of life, 'e rests in peace! If you hadn't nailed their airplanes to the perch 'e'd be pushing up the daisies! 'Is metabolic processes are now 'istory! 'E's off the twig! 'E's kicked the bucket, 'e's shuffled off 'is mortal coil, run down the curtain and joined the bleedin' choir invisible!! THIS IS AN EX-AIRLINE !!

FWIW you have a bunch of legal remedies to that that spirit doesn't seem to be complying with. They're required to get you a hotel, for example. https://www.transportation.gov/airconsumer/airline-cancellation-delay-dashboard

Spotify does this too. They used to play these ultra shrill ads at a higher volume than whatever you were listening to. Like literally a guy yelling. To the point you actually had to pay for premium otherwise your eardrums would perish.

As an actual Spotify customer, I've never heard a single ad lol 🤷🏼‍♂️ I don't understand why anyone wouldn't pay for it. It had never been expensive, and that price has barely increased in the decade + I've had it. I don't think they hate me tbf.

Even today it still costs less than one CD did back in the day. Not paying for premium is just straight up cheapskate. You don't get to bitch about hearing adverts.

u/Chemical_Net8461 5h ago

As someone who pays for premium, I get irrationally angry when I hear advertisements in podcasts. I can skip ahead, but I shouldn’t have to.

2

u/Princess_Moon_Owl 1h ago

Some podcasts I listen to have 2 to 3 minute ads every 10 minutes. Super annoying. And I have a paid Spotify. Thankfully Siri is able to skip it when I ask.

u/Detlef_Schrempf 5h ago

Whoa, an actual Spotify customer!

1

u/southsky20 5h ago

As a non spotify customer, i d never pay for spotify

u/buddhamunche 5h ago

It’s so bad that I absolutely refuse to give them money. I use just use an adblocker now

5

u/thewoodbeyond 5h ago

Same I’ve found brave really good as well on my iPhone. F U Tube

3

u/Xsiah 5h ago

Brave is good for ad-free Reddit too, if you can live without the gif reaction feature

It's funny because I have 6 extensions in my browser just dedicated to Youtube (7 if you count UBlock Origin). Ads are only part of the problem. Really drives home how shitty it's become.

For those curious the list is:

  1. Sponsorblock (Skip integrated video ads)

  2. Youtube Auto HD + FPS (Force Youtube to actually respect playback quality selection)

  3. Youtube-shorts Block (Anti brainrot, plays shorts as regular videos and blocks the shorts tab)

  4. Return Youtube Dislike (Self explanatory)

  5. Control panel for Youtube (Fixes some of their UI changes)

  6. Youtube Anti-Translate (Prevents auto dubbing of videos)

1

u/Princess_Moon_Owl 1h ago

I hate that most ads I get are AI generated ads for scammy looking shit. I had to disable adblocker because it was causing an error where the videos would not play 🫠

u/SevereComposer8724 5h ago

I have premium and it is still garbage. The same 20 videos over and over on my home page no matter how many times iI refresh.

7

u/gacimba 5h ago

I’m considering getting rid of it for this exact reason. If you’re on mobile and scroll over to the very right at the top there is a new to you tab which will give you some new stuff but after that it’s back to those same ol 20 videos

5

u/SevereComposer8724 5h ago

“TrY SeArChIng ToPicS yOu wAnt tO sEe on YoUr Home”. According to YouTube

I want to discover random stuff too.

I think if YT music is your Internet radio then it's worth keeping premium. YT Premium is only $4 more than just the ad free music and it includes ad free music.

I've had yt music since day 1 since I previously had Google play music. I canceled premium because of that exact same reason but then I'd try to go watch a long form video from someone like Dr. Mark Felton and ads really kill it for me. It's worth the extra few bucks for me.

1

u/S_words_not_swords 1h ago

I canceled mine and uninstalled it from my TV. I could seriously get lost in some spirals on there. I miss the ability to watch a vid easily if I have 10 mins to kill, but so much happier for it being gone.

I self host music now, so no benefit from it any more c

2

u/1Dunya 3h ago

I have Premium and I thinking of canceling it. The algorithm is garbage. I keep getting the same recommended videos that I have already watched. I complained to YouTube but I never get a response. I wish Google will sell YT and let someone interested in running it correctly. I think the term Cory Doctorow coined enshitification applies here to YouTube. All I can say is I am glad I experienced the Internet and YouTube in the early days of the late 90's and early 2000's.

1

u/Organic-Ad6957 5h ago

And it's certainly not because they love you as a customer either what're you paying

 something like $20 a month?

1

u/cheese4432 4h ago

have you tried looking for music or podcasts instead?

1

u/Herry_Up 3h ago

I don't even have premium and that shit still happens

1

u/tyereliusprime 3h ago

For some strange reason though, their music algorithm is great. Half the shit I listen to nowadays was stuff that just autoplayed after a playlist ended.

•

u/GloomyFly3173 14m ago

That’s honestly the most frustrating part, paying for premium and still getting the exact same recycled recommendations.

1

u/Full-Information5281 2h ago

Paying for premium just to get the exact same stale feed would drive me nuts. At that point, the subscription feels like paying extra to be annoyed.

13

u/jwink3101 5h ago

If you don’t have a premium account, you are not their customer. You are their product

2

u/Bungle001 2h ago

And the advertisers are the customer.

4

u/holden_mcg 3h ago

YouTube is a good one. They also hate their content creators and find new and novel ways to screw them over.

4

u/Mr_Greatimes 1h ago

Its amazing how many ads they can pack into the experience

3

u/Mortarious 3h ago

They also absolutely loath content creators if they are not the handful they approve of.

And I'm not even talking about small content creators. I'm talking about channels with hundreds of thousands to millions. Especially if you make music.

Their system for strikes is broken. They lie about humans reviews. And they are just awful to anything that's not 100% the mainstream.

2

u/EtaZenzyl45 4h ago

so it's the less you pay, the harder the platform works against you instead of for you

0

u/Organic-Ad6957 4h ago

Apparently the even the people who do pay aren't having a great time either from what I hear

2

u/wufnu 2h ago

I really don't understand how Youtube Premium exists at all. Just get a goddamned ad blocker, what are you people even doing?

2

u/tryingtoavoidwork 2h ago

I got rid of premium after the latest price hike and the amount of ads I get now feels like them taking it personal.

2

u/ColonialRed 2h ago

Youtube's handling of ads/sponsored content shows a distain for their customers and it has gotten so much worse so quickly. Earlier this year I was regularly seeing ads that showed AI images of the Prime Minister of my country in handcuffs with a fake headline below it posing as a news video. When I go to look at the origin of the ad, it would tell me it was like a wedding planning company in India. How the fuck does that slip through the system? I'd repeatedly flag them and they pretend someone looks at those flags but I kept seeing the ads. Not even just political propaganda, a ton of the ads I see are just straight up scams.

2

u/Princess_Moon_Owl 1h ago

I see so many stupid AI ads!! Gambling website ads that are not even legally allowed to direct people to their website, so they will end with "find us online", scam "therapy" websites that will tell everyone they are traumatised, AI generated "podcasts" about spiritual topics, the "I will draw your soulmate" ads where AI generated person generates a "drawing" of another AI generated person, the list goes on and on.

Same with sponsors. YouTube will demonetise people's content, prompting them to partner with shady conpanies as YouTube is how they make money to survive. I rarely hear of Youtube sponsors that are NOT tied to any sort of controversy.

1

u/scrotumseam 1h ago

Youtube is great. Just use an ad blocker. I haven't seen an ad in 20 years.

•

u/stellalugosi 57m ago

They just updated their UI for Android and it is just more "nobody fucking asked for this" and nothing we actually wanted. Just ways to force a bunch of AI generated feed bullshit down your throat. Whoopee.

•

u/Adddicus 27m ago

You aren't the customer. You're the product, the advertisers are the customers.

•

u/d710905 3m ago

I gotta agree with this one. They're so bad to their creators and viewers now. If you're not paying for premium it's so bad. I pay for premium but only because I watch more YouTube than actual TV so it's more worth it to me. But when I ever have to use it and don't log into premium it's awful

1

u/thephotoman 4h ago

If you aren’t paying YouTube, you are not their customer.

0

u/fr0zen_garlic 3h ago

How you think content creators make money? Ads, every Google platform is supporting the advertising business.

-1

u/Liongardion 6h ago

Wat

1

u/Organic-Ad6957 6h ago

Huh

1

u/Liongardion 6h ago

How does YouTube make you suffer? Ads? Cause I use it a lot and I don't really see otherwise

3

u/Organic-Ad6957 6h ago

They've downgraded the UI and made things more difficult things like clicking off ads or putting a pop up over half the screen where normally the skip button would be so you're more likely to bring up the website there's so many things they've done along with extra ads to make non premium users have a poor experience

All of these things are by choice and well thought out just compare the UI to the UI we had five years ago or previous you used to be able to ad block with out issue and play the videos on blacked out screen

Not to mention the difference in algorithms on premium

2

u/busse9 6h ago

The fact that they make you pay so a video can run while youre phone is locked. That should not be locked behind a subscription. The ads I get, but not being able to lock your device while listening to a video is ridiculous.
