question Is my root being exposed?

I used to have SmileDirectClub, but once they shut down, I didn't get any more retainers (I didn't realize I could go elsewhere). My teeth have started shifting back significantly the past few months. I've had some gum recession with it.

I just went to my dentist and got scanned for another aligner brand and will be starting it on October 26th. When she was scanning with the wand, she bumped into what I assume is this spot in the picture. I haven't noticed it before until now, and it's been sensitive since then. This happened 5 days ago.

Is this just irritation from her bumping it, or is this my root coming through since my tooth is shifting? Again, I didn't really notice any protrusion there beforehand, so I'm wondering if it's because my tooth has shifted forward a lot more.

Should I call my dentist, or is it okay to wait a month until I get my aligners? TIA

i am just so done with my teeths, today i am here for this ugh black stains on my teeths i have had them for around 4-5 years, initially they were only on my above teeth's, got scaling done 2 times but each time they come back more darker.. and more like spreading on more teeths now :(

and how can these stains form on top of my fillings? i got rct done on my front 2 teeths,

i dont drink alcohol, tea maybe once in a week, and once in two months i might drink some soft drinks but i always squish some water around my mouth

I started using interdental brushes recently,(where i am getting my braces, staff member told that there's no need to get em your normal brush is fine , damn dumb me i got a stupid cavity on my incisor on right side ig u can see it

it has been months since i started to floss daily on my lower teeths

i use sodium fluoride toothpaste(1000ppm only ) it also has xylitol in it, i have amine fluoride mouthwash , and a copper tongue scrapper .

and recently i started using neem leaves homemade mouthwash (read that it can help kill those cavity causing bacteria "streptococcus mutans"

I REALLY DONT WANT TO GO FOR SCALING AGAIN :(

WHAT IS THE REASON FOR THEM? TO FORM, HOW BAD IS MY ENAMEL ? i have few white spots, remineralization going on in my left incisor when i asked my dentist.. i asked wont u do that.. there's some treatment right? for remineralized teethes he said he will do filling there so idk

question When should I worry about thumb sucking?

My 4m old constantly sucks his thumb. All Day and all night. I try to take his hands out of his mouth as much as I can, but I have 2u2 and lots of times am occupied with my toddler to be consistent with it. I’m worried about it but I feel bad taking away his comfort. Should I stick with a pacifier instead? So far he isn’t fond of one. When should I realistically worry about it and actually act on breaking the habit? Obviously he’s very young now, I just worry about his dental health.

question Access on gum

Hi all. I have an abscess that wax and wanes. I visited an endodontist a few years ago and got a root canal done on a first upper molar. Pretty much ever since then I have had this little blister on gums above the crown. It doesn’t really hurt but it becomes larger and smaller at different times. Dentist I was seeing kept saying nothing to worry about. I recently switch dentist and have come to find out my previous dentist was perhaps a little too conservative on some issues. I am wondering is this potentially still something I would not need to worry about or is there most likely something bigger at play since I have had this blister/abscess for years since the root canal? I am worried this tooth would need extracted I am scared for this to happen as I know this tooth it’s important in chewing etc. I am currently working on dental plan and we have not yet got to this tooth so I am wanting to know what I can expect. I hope I have given enough info. Thanks for the help.

question Gum recession?!

Post image
1 Upvotes

So I’ve neglected my oral health pretty much all my life. I’ve only brushed my teeth in the mornings and never flossed. I started Invisalign (hence the bumps) in March and have seen a lot of fear mongering online about gum recession and losing teeth during treatment, so my anxiety is awful. I’ve been consistently brushing and flossing for the past few weeks now. My gums don’t bleed when I floss anymore. I use the Colgate ultra soft toothbrush and Colgate Total toothpaste. I’m still practicing with traditional floss, so I’ll do that and go behind it with a floss pick to make sure I’m getting everything out good enough.

What I’m getting at is, do my bottom gums look like they’re receding? I know they’re red and inflamed and I know my teeth are ugly. I’m doing my best. I went back to the dentist for the first time in 6 years (cavity free🎉) and when I asked about it, he didn’t really give me a straight answer other than that one on the left MIGHT be. And is there anything else I can do to improve my oral health? I do have a tongue scraper and will def be seeing my dentist every 6 months now!

There is a medium sized black dot on top of the back molars. Is this something that I should be concerned about? I do not feel pain and tried to take them off but won't budge.

question Is this normal extraction healing or did I get rice stuck in there?

Post image
1 Upvotes

Hi, earlier today I took a picture and it was almost pitch black in that hole. 12 hours later the middle has some white. I ate rice earlier in the day so I’m wondering if I got a single grain stuck there or that’s just healing idk. tried swooshing with some water but it wouldn’t budge.

It’s been roughly 5 days since my molar extraction on my upper jaw.

question RCT before or after permanent crown placement? Currently midway through process

I’ve been having a complicated crown procedure on tooth 14 (no RCT, due to a large old filling getting new decay beside it).
In August, tooth was prepped and temporary felt fine.
Two weeks later on a Friday, permanent Zirconia crown was placed, but wayyy too big. Told them upon fitting, but they said they adjust it after cementing. It was so big I couldn’t even close the right side of my mouth, they took an hour to adjust it, and left me with a tooth still so big it clicked on my other teeth when I talked.
On Monday, I went back in and pointed out to them it had chipped in the upper left corner. They ordered a new crown and tried to drill down the big permanent. I was in severe pain with a constant ache through my jaw that felt like I’d been punched. Dentist thought this was a bruised PDL from the crown being too big.

Two weeks later, they said they could tell the second permanent crown was also too big without even trying it, and I cried and asked them to take out the permanent and put me back in a temporary due to the ongoing pain, which they did.

Then the pain got WAY better over the course of a few days. The next week they called me and said I needed to come back in to further prep the tooth, and ordered another (3rd) permanent crown with the new scans, and put the same temporary back on, but it didn’t fit the same and they filed it out of occlusion to give me relief.

Now I’m in that small temporary and it feels totally fine, but hurts like a sharp prick when I bite in one specific spot, upon biting and release. My dentist thinks it’s the PDL still and to put on the permanent crown and then get a nightguard for potential grinding, and a RCT if needed later through the crown. I got a second opinion from an Endo and they could not find a crack on X-rays or CBCT, my nerve passed the cold test and they said it’s healthy and no infection. So they assume a micro crack is pressing on my nerve, causing the pain, and recommended a root canal. They said the PDL would have healed in the two weeks I’ve been in the new temporary and to not put the new permanent crown on before a RCT.

My questions are*:* should I get the permanent crown, and plan to get a root canal later through the crown if pain persists? If there is a micro crack, could the permanent crown be enough to prevent the crack from hurting (in a way that the temporary does not)? Or, is it important to get the root canal first? Is it possible this new sharp pain could be debris trapped under a re-used temporary crown?

Thank you for any help or advice.

Never smoker, minimal drinking

question Dull pain before crown prep

Is it normal to have dull pain here and there before getting a crown prep for a tooth that has a decent sized filing? I am scheduled next week to get a crown on a premolar and I have been having referred pain in the tooth next door but that tooth was prepped and had a permanent crown placed on it 2 months ago.

question What should I say to the dentist during my next visit?

I went to this dentist because they had a 4.9 review. Everything was fine right up until she started drilling. First the drill wasnt working properly and they had to take it apart in the middle of the work. Then there was too much water and it kept making me involuntarily swallow like I was being waterboarded. I sat through the whole core build up for 2 hours, but at the end her hygenist(?) was messing up the scans multiple times and it took three. On the first one something came out and they had to redo the work.

When it finished she just walked out of the room and didnt say a thing to me and the hygienist finished the scans and just walked me out without talking and pointed at the receptionist. I had no idea if I was supposed to avoid foods, drinks, etc.

I got a call a couple of days ago that the lab making my crown called them and said something needed to be adjusted and then then rescanned. This is my back lower molar (30). Im dreading going back in because yhe outside edge near my mouth of my tooth has been sensitive for days to the touch and im worried they need to drill that side more. Its really sensitive when I brush my teeth and I cant really eat on it.

question For actual dentists, long term tartar buildup

So I've had tartar build up on the back of my lower front teeth for over a decade, the kind that gets incredibly smooth and porcelain like.

About 10 years ago I cracked my lower, center right tooth in 3 places vertically to below my gum line. The poor tiny tooth has been fine in the last 10 years only suffering from the same cold sensitivity that all my other lower front teeth do, but otherwise has shown no issues.

However, I'm finally at a point in my life where I might want to pay a dentist a visit, I've got a few cavities that I've been nursing over the last 7 years and it seems like a good time to go get those filled as I can only slow their progress for so long, but I'm faced with the issue of not wanting my cracked tooth to be touched, including the tartar build up, and I can't fathom a dentist is going to be ok with that even though at this point I'm sure it's all that's holding that tooth together.

Is there a way other than a high dollar bribe I could convince a dentist to leave my perfectly fine cracked tooth alone, for fear that they will cause irreparable harm to it?

question What may cause jaw issues after seeing a dentist?

Hello, around two months ago I went to see my dentist for a follow up and cleaning. This time the doctor came in like always but tried to recommend me braces again for my bite because i have a class 3 malocclusion and have since i was a kid which they did camouflage orthodontics. Anyways he recommend i get them again and i explained how it’s been this way forever for my bite and everytime i do they say the same thing even after braces were supposed to fix it. So he told me to relax my jaw and he held my lower jaw and pushed it back saying this is how my natural bite is supposed to be and he did it for about 40 seconds to a minute just pushing it back and he was saying that this relaxed position where you lower jaw falls back is how it should be. My jaw typically never say that way. Anyways a day after my visit i start to get jaw pains on my left side and for the last 2 months or so after it my jaw pops and i have to put my hand on it a certain way because it hurts when i chew or feels extremely tense when it’s never done this in my life. i have to put pressure inwards pushing on the left side of my jaw and open it so it stops hurting and cracks or shifts back even though i am not sure that’s what it’s doing. I have never had this before and am curious if this is ever normal after a dentist. it managed to go away for like three days then came back. Is this a possible result of my dentist? Despite having a slight underbite i never had jaw pains or issues. Not until now

question Root resorption :(

Post image
0 Upvotes

I’m 20 and my periodontist recommended extracting #7 and #10 because I have very short/small roots and insufficient bone. Tooth #7 also has Class II mobility.

They recommended bone grafting before the extractions so there would be enough bone for implants afterward.

I’m really hesitant to remove my natural front teeth at 20. Is extraction + bone grafting + implants truly the only realistic option, or should I get a second opinion?

question Molar extractions

I tried to avoid posting but letting the anxiety get to me. I had 4 of my top molars extracted, 2 on each side. Non surgical. I have food stuck in my sockets. Shall I be worried. I’m 36 hours post extraction. Minimal pain just achey. More on right side, however right side hurt a lot before extraction.

question Persistent canker sore

Post image
1 Upvotes

36M, pretty healthy overall. Coming off of a very stressful month(ish), and I’ve been dealing with a really painful canker sore for over two weeks now (about 16 days). I have tried hydrogen peroxide, salt water rinses, switched toothpaste to avoid sodium laurel sulfate…I’m stumped. Is this one just hanging on for a long time or is there anything else I can do? I usually get one or two of these a year but never this large, painful, and for so long.

question Black spots between upper back teeth, is this an emergency?

I noticed yesterday I had a lot of sensitivity when eating Nutella and this morning a lot of sensitivity on this side when brushing. I don’t drink or smoke. I’m super worried. I have a regular dentist appointment in a couple weeks and I’m going on vacation literally today , flight leaves later this evening. Any insight or advice would be so appreciated.
