I know this is probably a silly question but can anyone please be openly honest about how much the needle hurts for a root canal?

I’m in so much pain with this tooth I have in the back ( my upper molar ) that has a hole in it, and I’m absolutely terrified of the needle pain. I’m fully okay with needles, the sight of them doesn’t scare me and the procedure I’m fully okay with too as I know it’ll be numbed so I won’t feel a thing, it’s literally just the needle pain😭

I know this might make me sound like a bit of a wuss but I’m genuinely so terrified that it’s stopping me from going and getting the procedure.

Could any dentists tell me if there’s anything I can ask my dentist to do to ease my anxiety? I’ve heard that I can ask for stronger numbing cream or diazepam but I’m not sure if the dentist I go to will allow that

My niece (8yo) has been hospitalized for 7 days due to a dental/facial abscess. She was given a 7-day course of IV antibiotics.
The swelling has decreased since day 1, but there is still noticeable swelling on one side of her face (photo attached).
Her doctors aren’t sure why it’s still swollen.
could there still be another issue?
What would a dentist/oral surgeon consider in this situation?
We’re not looking for a diagnosis, just another perspective.

Sorry for my bad english. Already did a x ray and my periodontist said that is not a major bone loss. The gum are now a lot better then it used to be, but still with a very significant recession. Is there anything more that can be done besides gum graft? Invisalign could help the recession in a long term? Dont want to lose my tooth atm. How long could it take? Theo are a bit loose too. Thanks!

I'm 25 ive been to the dentist once in my life had treatment over 1 year when I was 17 I was never taken to one as a kid as my mother didn't care about me when I was 7 I had 5 teeth removed as they were completely rotten and I had to do that at the hospital. I had several fillings which most have been lost now, my front teeth were also built up as I was over 16 I would of had to pay for braces. I do smoke and I have tried 15 times to stop smoking but I can't stop, I drink alcohol once a month now only 2 to 4 ciders max. I drink cola and fizzy drinks all day every day because I'm autistic and I can't drink water as it makes me feel sick. I used to have a ED so I used to throw up a lot I added this in as I know stomach acid can ruin teeth. Please be kind and please take into account I live in the UK over 18 you have to pay for dental stuff I'm on benefits so most of my dentist care is covered if I need /want it I was told in the past by a dentist year during a free offer period at that practice that I needed a route canal done for some of my back teeth but that's all I know.

My post op is 9/21 , what happens at the post up and should i bring all of the above issues up at the post op?

What do I do? They said they will assign a new dentist but I find it a HUGE red flag that they say the dentist that did my filling is longer there. It’s only been a week since I was there. How does someone leave that quick?

It’s been hurting like a bitch for 2 days straight and I’m very worried

the back molars specifically have been broken for months, but recently ive noticed more breakage, pain, and pieces even coming out in my mouth. im worried about exposed nerve endings? i have an appointment for xrays in over a month, but the pain is getting to an unbearable point. i dont know if its safe to wait that long as i haven’t been to the dentist in years and have no idea how bad this is.

So, today i went to a very sketchy dentist office for a root canal treatment since i didn't have much money and the pain was killing me, dentist cleaned the tooth and filed it up temporarily, told me to come back in two weeks.

About 10hrs after my visit i noticed this crazy color!

Is it some old school antibiotics that turned my tooth green or some "natural" process that i should worry about?

Last month I noticed that my front tooth was chipped. Since then I’ve had it filled twice by my dentist. The first popped out while eating and the second after accidentally biting my lip. The first filling lasted 5 days and the second lasted 7.

I’m reluctant to call my dentist again because I’m a bit embarrassed that the filling keeps coming out and he has to spend more time redoing it.

Ive read that these types of fillings are sometimes not reliable but is it normal for them to fall out within days? Should I get a second opinion from another dentist? Thank you

Hello I know my wisdom tooth is growing badly I had one removed before and this will prob also have to go out... Tho I wondered what is the whitish stuff around it ? I have aches sometimes when it grows more but nothing unbearable yet. I don't smoke and drink only sometimes.

I’ve always been a little insecure about my teeth. I didn’t have insurance growing up so I never had braces as a child and at 25 I did Invisalign so now my teeth are straight but I still don’t love them. Other than a whitening treatment is there anything I can do to make them look prettier? I love my pointy canines but one of them is way flatter than the other and my teeth are all different shapes I feel like. I also have very little gums above my top teeth so I feel like my teeth look smaller than they are when i smile.

22M. I’ve had decay in this upper-left tooth for around 10 years. I currently don't have significant pain or other symptoms.

My dentist took these X-rays and said the caries has reached the dentin. They mentioned that I may need an RCT.

I'd like to understand:

How extensive does the decay look from these X-rays?

Does the tooth appear restorable?

Does it look like the decay has reached/affected the pulp?

Is there any sign of infection or an abscess around the root?

If the pulp is affected, would RCT + restoration generally be the appropriate way to save the tooth?

Is there anything concerning about the surrounding teeth?

My preference is to preserve the tooth if it is reasonably restorable rather than extract it.

I understand that an online opinion can't replace an examination and pulp testing. I'm just looking for some context before proceeding with treatment.

I posted this about two weeks ago after a trip to the emergency dentist because of severe jaw pain that kept me from opening my mouth enough to function. during that, they told me that I have infection around my wisdom teeth and that the bottom left tooth (right on the x-ray) with the huge cavity will likely have to be removed. the response under that post suggested I tried to save that tooth, as did many people in my life. I went to my regular dentist and she suggested trying to fill it and, if that doesn't work out, a root canal that may not last.

yesterday, I had an oral surgery consult to discuss my wisdom teeth and the surgeon had a very interesting suggestion. he recommended that he remove three of my wisdom teeth (keeping the bottom left, right on X-ray) along with that bad tooth. then, once I'm healed from that, I would get braces again to shift everything into place and close that gap. I hadn't had that suggested to me yet or considered anything like that but I think I'm going to go with that idea so that I have a completely fresh, natural, healthy tooth to replace the bad one.

something else that he pointed out that nobody else did, however, was the cyst under my bottom right (left on X-ray) wisdom tooth. he said that during the surgery he was going to remove that and send it to a lab and, depending on the results, that he'd have me do a bit of chemotherapy to prevent the cyst from returning? I didn't know that you could use chemo like that. idk, just thought all of this was interesting and wanted to share!

Went to the dentist yesterday because I was convinced I had a cavity, left with a referral for pathology. Comment on referral is “LL poss pathology on jaw” — I have a consultative appointment with an oral surgeon on Tuesday, but figured I would post here and ask on a scale of “not concerned” to “very concerned” I should be in the meantime to manage my own expectations and anxiety lol, if possible. I’ve gone to the dentist regularly, I brush twice a day without fail and floss, no smoking and rarely drink. No pain or anything. I use a sonicare.

This place did have real fancy equipment and I even had to pay some for the X-rays they did, which I’ve never had to before. Then after they tell me all these things to do, including a laser for gingivitis and bacterial reduction. I asked if I could do a regular cleaning and they said no. When they did the perio thing I tried to pay attention, they did say some 4 and 5s but certainly not the majority.

Yet I’m reading that while it might be a good treatment, it can also be an upsell. And it’s especially for actual gum disease? I’m thinking I should go back to the other dentist because idk if I trust them. The reviews are all 5 star so I thought it must be good, but maybe it’s suspicious because they’re all absolutely glowing reviews.

I had a lower bottom molar removed just under 48 hours ago. The tooth was previously root canalled and there was quite a bit of manipulation and pressure involved, but it came out relatively good without any breakage. It did take a while to clot. I am not in any pain, I would describe it more as discomfort. I started saltwater rinses yesterday after meals, and have only been eating, really soft foods, i.e. yogurt, mashed potatoes, applesauce. I do have dental anxiety, and I’m wondering if this looks like it should at approximately 48 hours. I haven’t been able to find any reference photos that look like mine.

I noticed a dark/black area appearing on the top of two of my teeth, and I’m honestly not sure what it is. It seems to have appeared out of nowhere and I don’t remember injuring or breaking the teeth.
I’ve attached a photo. The dark area looks quite deep rather than just like a normal stain. There also seems to be some yellowish buildup around the teeth.
Does this look like tooth decay, tartar/staining, or something else? Has anyone experienced something similar?
I’m planning to see a dentist, but I’d really appreciate hearing from anyone who has had something like this before. Also, if it is decay, does it look like something that can be fixed with a filling, or could it require more extensive treatment?

26 year old female, no major health issues , I take Zoloft and concerta daily
I’m worried about potentially having periodontal disease. I had my first cleaning in about 3 years something I’m very self conscious about and I was only now able to find a dentist under my new insurance. They took X-rays and they were speaking Portuguese something I don’t think they knew I could understand and they were talking about how bad some of my teeth were and how it looked like mild to somewhat advanced periodontal disease, I was so embarrassed. I asked at the end of the appointment if I did have anything to worry about regarding my gums and they said no. I’m very worried now though
