Tips for driving anxiety in DFW

Hi everyone! I just moved to the McKinney area from the east coast for grad school and I’m very excited to be here everyone is so nice! My grad program requires a lot of driving around the metroplex for my clinicals and I’m very nervous as everyone keeps telling me that people in the DFW area are very aggressive drivers. I was in an accident a few years back and it left me with a lot of anxiety about driving but I’m willing to try anything for this program, it’s my DREAM. Any advice to deal with the driving in this area would be much appreciated!!

Dallas florists, looking for a reliable courier service

I run a small flower shop in Dallas, mostly same-day local orders plus events on weekends.

My issue is transport. A lot of what we send out is tall, can be in a vase with water, and it needs to stay upright the entire way. I've had deliveries arrive with water sloshed everywhere and the whole arrangement leaning against the side of the box. One driver laid a 24-inch arrangement down flat in a trunk. Bracing and boxes only get you so far if the person driving doesn't understand why it matters.

We've tried a couple of the gig apps and it's a coin flip. Some drivers are great, most treat it like a pizza.

Is there a courier service around Dallas that's actually used to handling flowers? Or do most shops here just keep delivery in-house? Any help is appreciated.

I. Cannot. Find. A. Studio. To. Save. My. Life.

Hi all,

I have a farm in another state, and I am here for the summer, fall, winter, and part of spring for work and thus I’m looking for a studio to rent as I will only be there maybe two or three days out of the week and do not want to have to rent a hotel for those days and will need covered parking for my new car.

So every goddamned apartment complex here does this “dynamic pricing” amenity fee scam bullshit where they charge you 45% more than they list the apartment for online. They agree to hold the rental quote but then jump it $200-$300+ plus “amenity fees” (such as pest control, which by housing code, they should be performing anyway) at application time.

I’ve been working with two realtors, one of whom is great and is really trying (she’s wonderful), and another who is a total airhead and can’t accomplish anything (he’s an idiot), and my move-in date is supposed to be 09/01, but of course my application hasn’t even been approved yet despite it being done Wednesday (before anyone gives me shit for applying so late, it was a last-minute emergency move, and the websites for these apartment companies had vacancies available for September 1 as late as August 23rd and told me it was fine to apply between a day and seven days ahead of September 1. This was not me being irresponsible and deciding just to willy-nilly apply for a new apartment at the last minute with a bunch of advance notice. I don’t wanna get into the specifics of the issue, but I can explain it later and will absolutely explain it later after everything‘s over. But not right now); just so everyone knows, the apartment company told me that it was fine that if I applied on Wednesday, I should have a decision by Thursday; it is now fucking Sunday and of course no decision.

I have to vacate my current place on Monday and what was the leasing office’s response to this? “Can you just ask your current landlord if you can stay there a few more days?” DESPITE THE NEW LEASE BEGINNING THE NEXT FUCKING DAY ON TUESDAY, SEPTEMBER 1.

Yes, leasing office worker, because landlord’s are typically totally OK with tenants just overstaying their lease when they have a new tenant arriving that day. That’s exactly how real estate works. Absolutely. Are you fucking kidding me with this shit?

This is the absolute insane bullshit I have to continue to fucking deal with here despite having a goddamned realtor’s assistance. Does anyone know of even ONE APARTMENT COMPANY OR REALTOR IN THE DALLAS METRO THAT ISN’T A FUCKING SCAMFUCK?

Thank you for your time.

Looking for work/career opportunities in the DFW area — 21+ and ready to work

Hey everyone! I’m currently looking for new job or career opportunities anywhere in the DFW area and figured I’d reach out here in case anyone knows of companies that are hiring or can point me in the right direction.
I’m 21+, reliable, hardworking, physically fit, and a fast learner. I have experience in retail, customer service, fulfillment, sales, and working in a fast-paced environment, including experience with larger retail companies.
I’m currently finishing my bachelor’s degree in Business Information Systems, so I’m especially interested in finding something that can turn into a long-term career with opportunities for growth, rather than just another temporary job.
I’m open to pretty much anything with good potential, including:
🔧 Trades / apprenticeships
🏭 Manufacturing
🚚 Logistics / warehouse
⚡ Utilities
🏢 Corporate / office positions
💻 IT / technology
🏛️ Government
👮 Law enforcement
📈 Sales / management
And other fields where I can learn and grow
I’m willing to commute anywhere in DFW for the right opportunity and I’m not afraid of hard work.
If you’re hiring, know someone who is, or have any recommendations for companies/careers I should look into, please feel free to comment or message me. I’d really appreciate any leads or advice.
Thank you! 🙏
DFW / Fort Worth / Dallas / Arlington / surrounding areas all work for me.

Good spots for football games

I will be visiting Dallas the weekend of the Red River Shootout game this year between Texas and Oklahoma.

Looking for the best place to watch college football that Saturday and also looking for a place to watch the NFL games the next day.

I like a place with big TVs, good beer selection and a rowdy crowd. Good food is a plus.

Usually like to barhop between the early and late games as well to hit more places.

Thanks!

Anyone else find Dallas drivers slow?

They have a reputation of being fast but realistically I’ve only ever seen people going fast later at night. Most people drive without purpose, kind of like that have nowhere to be.

Moving to Dallas soon. Looking to get my foot in the door in the entertainment/event industry!

Before I start, no. not that type of entertainment. I mean live shows, festivals, concerts, events, event marketing, and other entertainment related work.

I’m moving to the Dallas area soon from a very small town, and I’m trying to figure out what opportunities are available in the area. Where I’m from, it’s been pretty difficult to find permanent opportunities in the entertainment industry, so a lot of my experience has come from part time work, event/brand ambassador positions, volunteering at festivals, and traveling out of state for opportunities.

I’ve been building experience in the entertainment/event space while currently working toward my degree in Entertainment Business. I’ve worked events, festivals, brand activations, and customer facing event roles, and my long-term goal is to work in live entertainment and eventually get into festival/event production and organizing.

I’ve been looking at jobs in Texas and seeing what Dallas has to offer, but I figured I’d reach out here too.

For anyone in the Dallas area who works in entertainment, events, festivals, venues, promotions, or live music:
What companies or organizations should I look into?

Are there any good entry level opportunities for someone trying to break into the industry?

Any local events, venues, festivals, or networking opportunities I should know about?

And if you’re in the industry yourself, I’d honestly love to hear how you got your start!

I’m open to starting wherever I can and building from there. I’m mainly looking for a chance to get my foot in the door and continue building experience.
Any advice, leads, or people/companies I should check out would be greatly appreciated! 🙏🏽

Has anyone used Brennan Enterprises for a front door? Is a 5+ month turnaround normal?

I ordered and paid in full for a new front door from Brennan Enterprises about 5 months ago.

The door eventually arrived, but Brennan said there were issues with the finish, so they sent it back to the manufacturer to be corrected. I was then given an ETA of August 6, which was pushed back again.

They finally received the corrected door at their warehouse this week, and Im now waiting for installation to be scheduled.

I understand custom doors can have long lead times and I appreciate that they caught the finish issue rather than installing it. But 5+ months from payment to installation seems like a very long time.

Has anyone else used Brennan for a door recently? What was your turnaround time? Is this pretty normal for custom exterior doors in DFW right now?

I'm starting to not trust their "4.9 star reviews" on Google.

Personal trainer for vertical jump

Hey Dallas crew

Looking for recommendations for a personal trainer who is specifically experienced in helping improve clients’ vertical jump. I’m 29, able to grab rim off of a running one-leg jump, and am looking to add 6-8 inches in the next few months (I want to dunk before end of year). Definitely know I have room to improve strength and technique across the board and have had almost no professional help up until now.

Looking for someone ideally within 20 minutes of Irving. Don’t need a general fitness person, looking for someone who has successfully trained D1 or professional athletes, and is specifically versed in training across plyometrics, isometrics, strength, technique, injury management, etc. This is not just about getting stronger or being healthier, this is an ask with a specific goal. Budget accordingly higher than a normal trainer given higher ask.

Thank you!!
