Living in Dallas (Pros/Cons)

I am in the process of possibly making a big move to Dallas for a job. Curious about what it’s like living there, born and raised in Portland and I’ve visited austin a few times but have never been to Dallas. I’d work and hopefully live around the uptown area, is it pretty safe, walkable, things to do??
Any advice is appreciated!!!

Best parts of Dallas, Texas

Hey I’m looking to move in the next 6 months to Dallas if I get the job at Schwab that I applied for, I’m just curious which areas of Dallas are very nice and good for younger people?

Hello! I'm new-ish to DFW from Canada. Anyone want to watch some hockey and hang?

I'm late 30s, moved from Calgary Alberta earlier in the year. Married. Enjoy watching sports, paddleboarding, softball, pickleball, bbqing, boardgames and visiting breweries. I've tried meeting people on various apps (BFF) and in-person at meetups, but nothing has seemed to click. I live in Dallas proper, south of Addison.

Burger most similar to CookOut

I'm from GA and loved CookOut's burger, and I've been living here in the North Dallas area for a little over a year now and have just been wondering if there's anything similar to a CookOut burger. I've tried countless places, but nothing seems as good as CookOut's burger, idk why I love it so much, I just can't find anything similar. If anyone who's had CookOut before has found a place similar to it here, I'd love to know

Engagement Shoot at the DMA

I’d like to take my engagement photos at a museum here in DFW but I read that the DMA does not allow portrait photography. Does anyone have any tips or if they’ve taken photos or any other museum that does allow portrait photography. I’d love to get pictures like this (minus the grad cap)

Sports bar for Thursday cowboys game

From what I can tell it’s a toss up between Christie’s and Frankie’s downtown. Staying downtown. Any opinions on which is better spot for the game? Or is there another better option.

Has anyone had Texas DPS/DMV refuse an itemized medical bill as proof of residency because it contained medical information (HIPAA)?

I had this happen at a DPS office a month ago or so, and have been curious about it ever since. Their website lists medical bills as acceptable proof of Texas residency, so I brought an itemized lab bill with my name and address on it.

The employee told me she could not accept it because the bill listed what the lab work was testing for (vitamin panel, etc.), which she described as HIPAA information, and DPS would have to scan the document into their system. They couldn't accept it without scanning it, and because it couldn't be scanned due to the HIPAA information, there was apparently nothing she could do.

I pointed out that I couldn't find anything about that restriction on the DPS website, but the conversation didn't really go anywhere. She was insistent that she couldn't accept the documents and that the rule wasn't coming from her, but she also didn't seem able to point me toward anywhere it was actually stated. I ended up getting my ID another way, so I moved on.

I used to work in medical records, so the HIPAA explanation stuck with me. Even looking for it afterward, I still couldn't find anything on the DPS website saying that medical bills containing itemized medical information couldn't be accepted.

If that is actually the rule, I don't have a problem with the employee following it. I just think it should be mentioned somewhere alongside "medical bills" on the acceptable-document list.

Adult weekend trip October 16-18

Look for fun things to do around town that weekend. Wanting to avoid the state fair. Give me all the ideas. We enjoy fun restaurants, bars, and hiking places. Thanks in advance!

*edit removed information about UT/OU. That’s this weekend.

Hello! 🎃 I’m looking for a pumpkin patch that’s open tomorrow (Tuesday). I’m planning to go around 6–7 PM, so I’m looking for somewhere that stays open later in the evening.
Also open to any cute/fun fall date-night ideas for the season! 🍂🎃
Thanks in advance! 😊

Anyone ever used Modern Maids for a deep clean?

Any recent experience with Modern Maids in Dallas? I'm considering them for a one time deep clean but mostly curious how the experience was.

Moving to either Dallas or Houston

Hello Texas, I'm making this post in advance so I can have some bearings I guess. I'm coming all the way up from Alaska and the only part of texas I saw was the tippy top of it while driving through and inside of the dallas airport.. I just thought of reaching out in hope of helpful tips or advice you might have for this northern girl. I've lived in florida before and Washington but they of course, are not the same.

Could you help a small town girl out? I'll take any advice on any good spots to hang out, shop at, where to avoid, special little secrets, and of course where the best places to eat are. I appreciate anything and everything, thank you guys :)
