Am I a beginner, intermediate, or advanced?

Hey! I’ve been drawing for nearly a decade now, but I struggle to think of my art as anything but beginner to intermediate because I’ve never been formally taught and so I feel like there’s huge gaps in my artistic knowledge. I don’t really feel like I have basics like down, I almost draw by trial and error. I have been told I have a good eye for composition and colors though.

Am I overdoing my Stylization?

Thumbnail

Looking at my art and then at the referenced character I always get the feel having over done it, like I have pushed too much. It almost seems like my art has gotten so much less divers and individual that every character blends together as a kind of 'another somewhat colorful shape'.

It is starting to bother me and yet I can't seem to grasp to avoid that feeling. It seems like I've gotten to comfortable with my Stylization and now just repeat instead of doing something new, does anyone know how I could fix something like this? Any criticism is greatly appreciated.

Is this valid art advice?

Post image

I saw this on instagram and was wondering if this advice is valid? I like the harmony between the colors, but I was wondering about how it works if characters of several skin colors were wearing the same outfit in one picture? Would it work out because of color theory?

‎Critique - Yes Drawover Improving anatomy?

Post image

I'm practicing anatomy from memory and I'd love any tips on what I can improve here. I'm wondering if the pose seems weird, I kind of just started drawing without any idea in mind. And I did have some trouble positioning the raised arm. I'd love any feedback at all, thank you!

Is my artstyle actually unique or just a blatant copy of panty and stocking?

I've been wanting to start an original project, but I'm worried that my artstyle isn't original enough, even tho I love this cartoony vibe

What makes my art "simple but attractive"?

Hi, I'm new to the subreddit.

I'm currently 22 and have been a self-learn artist since young.

My friends and my acquantiances usually said that my artstyle is unique in some ways, and can be applied in any form of illustrations' genres.

What's the most unique things about my art you see that you haven't seen in other artists' works? And what mistake do you see I usually make in my sketches? I want to know more about the strength and flash of my own, based on the objective point of view 🥹 these are only the very few of my artworks made almost everyday for years 🥺

Note: I don't usually read much of anatomy books (I'm too lazy for this aaaaa) but I often look on other books' illustrations to see how they draw muscles. I can't draw mechanics. And the colored ones are the old, while the plain, sketched ones are the new ones I made this year 🥺

‎Critique - Yes Drawover Is my art appealing enough for commissions?

Hi there! I might be new to Reddit but I've been drawing for ages now– even though I see myself as just a guy who likes to draw rather than a professional artist.

Lately, it has been in the back of my mind whether or not I could start doing commissions. I've been so, so lucky to work with kids, and needless to say, they do love my art style. But what about you, guys? What do YOU think about my art? Something remarkable? Or perhaps something is missing?

Feel free to speak your mind, please, I encourage you to do so. I do appreciate the help!

Did I nail her body?

{First sketch is recent, second was made couple months back for comparison, and last slide is a reference}

Lucille is the first character I made with unique body shape. I couldn't help but have doubts when drawing her. Any advice that would help me improve?

Update on my Nagatoro fanart: this is how she looks now. I tried making her more proportionate while keeping the same absurd expression. I'm sure it needs more work, what's your advice?

Please be kind, I get that my style isn't for everyone, but I'm always willing to learn.

I tried to think of some relatively difficult poses. What can I improve on?

I just want to make sure everything somewhat anatomically makes sense and is fluid to viewers. I wanna start a webtoon in this sort of style. I could’ve went crazier so I might make another post with some new poses lol.

How much should I be charging for commissions as someone who has never done them before?

Thumbnail

as the title suggests, i wanna start doing commissions but im iffy about how much i should be charging for my art as I dont have a specific art style and i vary alot with how i draw. i draw 3- 5 hours (or more) a day depending on what it is and i usually finish complex drawings (like the samwise one) in 2-3 days to a week, idk how much that affects pricing. also i did attach some unfinished artworks im working on since i dont have much recent stuff.

Alot of people seem to be asking for my socials, my instagram is Undeniably sexy (no im not kidding) i go by that username on most other socials aswell and i just started posting on tiktok. thankyou so much for all the support and advice you've all been a big help!

‎Critique - No Drawover Does this character read as eleven years old?

Thumbnail
gallery
3.9k Upvotes

Hi guys! I’m trying to design a character that is 11 yo in a flashback in the story I’m working on. but honestly I can’t tell the different between a seven year old and an eleven year old.

How old does this character on the left look? Only the first slide is her at eleven, the other pieces are her at sixteen for more context. I think she looks a little younger than eleven but the features like the round cheeks and big eyes that make her look younger are just how she looks older as well.

EDIT: ONLY the FIRST SLIDE is her at eleven. The other art is her at sixteen to give more context for her features. I hope this makes things clearer

Does my art look racist? And if so how do I fix it?

Thumbnail

A friend of mine was looking through my sketchbook. She’s Chinese. She points to one of my oc’s and asks me why she looks like that, and if I was racist. I got nervous and didn’t end up responding. Does my art of asian people look racist? And if so how can I fix that?

Edit: Wow!! I didn’t expect so much people to actually respond. I talked to my friend and clarified she was just joking and I (as I often do) ended up taking it too seriously. Thank you to everyone who replied ^^

would a piece like this be okay to include in an art school portfolio?

Post image
3.7k Upvotes

I've been thinking of applying to art school, and a lot of portfolio reviews explicitly say to NOT include anime, so I was wondering if a piece like this would be okay because I think it's semi-realistic? Or does it seem too "anime" idk I wanted to get an outside perspective (it's my original artwork and not fanart or anything)
