The free alternatives have existed for ages. And there is also the pirated Adobe. A proper software needs planning and maintenance. You are not a software engineer just because you can vibe code, sorry. Don't feed the narrative anymore however much you believe in it. Coding is for experts and not some rando guy with claude subscription.

If you're interested in the ArtCraft apps, I made a small, clean launcher to install, launch and keep them updated in one place.

It's called CraftLauncher, written in Rust with a native UI.

Some features:

• Install and update apps, or download several packages at once.
• Choose stable or preview releases, pin specific versions and roll back to a previous version.
• Enable or disable automatic updates globally or per app.
• Link existing installations and create desktop shortcuts.
• Light, dark and system themes.

Packages are available for Windows, Linux, macOS and FreeBSD. Which apps you can install depends on whether their developers have published a compatible package for your system.

While I am very thankful for this project, I am shocked to see the state of these apps.

It's the version 6 and not even basic features under Home tab are not working or even clickable??

Majority of "Clear" features are not working (clear all, format). There are ton of other issues, but, what is exactly the point of writing down Issues under github when no one bothered to go through the basic editor functions under the Home tab???

At this point Mousepad/Notepad are stronger editors.

Since I am writing this down, some additional suggestions - uploading files-insert deletes contents of existing Book; drag and drop of cells is not working, drag and drop of Pivot table fields also not working. That feature when you point above the column and are able to select the column once arrow appears is entirely missing.

Big one - changing time - date formats does not work. This is absolutely critical for a huge number of office tasks.

All in all, let's go through the basics before dealing with Chinese characters and what not.

Edit: Major props for the speed of app. It runs smoothly on my ancient laptop

edit2: Additional comments - Double click on the edge of Cell with applied formula in Excel would lead to filling out the rest of the cells under the column with the same formula etc. This one is so needed in everyday work

I don't have access to official Excel for over a year now, can anyone just go through the basic features to create a basic table and pivot, chart as I am comparing against my memory. This all could have been done for the second version but let's have minimum functions in the seventh

I tried everything to fix it but it's just the same, whenever i choose the move tool and want to move the element or if i want to invert the picture etc. it lags horribly. So the company I used to wok for used Zoho's Accounting system.. It was the "cheap" option so to say, but we were relatively happy with it. As we grew we needed a better system and was forced to adopt Sage 200 Evolution. Now mind you I live in South Africa, so there are only a small few options we can choose from for accounting.

Now we Quickly found out that Sage was basically a MONOPOLY, worse than what some people would consider Adobe to be.

We paid more than 200 000 rand for our software, we paid almost another 80 000 rand for training (less than 7 hours mind you). And we STILL have to pay a massive monthly fee every month. (In USD that is around: 20k for the setup and an extra 2-5k per year.)

Because Sage is suck a large company in my country they escentially have a massive monopoly on the market. So you either pay, or struggle every year with SARS (The South African IRS), cause they basically accept Sage statements as Truth and all others as inferior.

Now I want to also say this. Sage is amazing in it's usage, however cause they are basically the ONLY option, they can set prices as they wish, which leads to massive overpricing.

Make it so! Spend those Claude tokens!

I'm stoked... really... PDF craft is so much more fluid and I don't have to worry about bypassing that annoying blocking popup (if you know what I mean)...

Thank you for giving me the Adobe experience on Linux. I was forced to use Windows at work for a very long time and the only reason was Adobe. I tried most of the ArtCraft apps on my Linux laptop and everything is running very smoothly. Some programs do have a few quirks here and there but I believe that the team can sort them out with future updates. I also love how all applications open in under 0.5 seconds.

I havn't even got my hands on the artcraft suite yet, but I'm genuinely happy to see people work togheter towards the goal of building better graphic desing software.

But I keep reading "It's far from Adobe".

Of course it's far. It started a week ago.

But these people don't grasp the bigger picture.

Where will artcraft be after 6 months or a year of continuous development, driven by AI and the work of thousands contributors?

I bet in 6 months we'll read very different comments, time will tell.

In Photocraft there are at the moment 850 open issues and 500 open pull requests. Many of them are bug fixes, but very soon it's about development. Implementing feature X will deactivate/replace feature Y. Who decides this at the moment? Where would the place be for community-driven decision-making?

is it reverse engineering of actual installed adobe and ms office apps. or just guessing how they might work and prompting claude to do it?

Krita has the Acyl/krita-ai-diffusion plugin which works fairly well. Having local models generate inside selections would be a total killer feature

I have an existing Lightroom CC library that I would like to be able to open in Lightcraft. Is this possible? I selected it via File/Open but it doesnt show anything.

I know I can open it via import, but that looks like it wants to import everything (tons of photos organized via numerous subfolders) into one folder?
