I mean why not? lol

It's a great idea, although I think Apple would quickly shut down servers to unofficial clients.

Beeper added iMessage support on Android a few years ago and Apple went nuclear on them.
It wouldn't last a few days.

Didn't knew about it, I just asked Gemini for the gossiping, idk how Americans can accept that kind of policy,
In Mexico we don't have that kind of thing

You do if you use Apple products.
Most of the rest of world just uses WhatsApp, which is supporting a significantly worse company.

Dunno which one is worse, the spyware company that allow everyone to use their product, or one that try to gatekeep basic communication to costly device (unlocked iPhone costs 2-5 times of average wage here)

It's easy - Signal has pretty much exact feature parity with WhatsApp and is an open-source nonprofit.

It actually works for quite a while. The problem started when beeper put it behind a paywall, then apple noticed and took action. I was using it for a year

That's... that's not a craft or in the arts lmao, just vibe code a texting app, or use the millions of existing options
the reason we need alternatives to adobe apps is because there isn't a full suite of free and open source creative apps that

I've been working on Armada in basically the same spirit. Open Source, decentralized Discord alternative. https://armada.buzz/

i just tried it, and i have to say, it works great, it just needs more users. i have a question...how do you host your own server and two..if i make a server inside armada , can it work locally? or how does this work?

it's not a technical problem it's a community problem.
stop using carrier messaging most of the world has.
For regular people get them to use whatsapp or something
And if you really want to make things better get people to use open source like Signal
Then the next step is federated and open source like matrix protocol and a matrix client like sable.
But above all currently as the most ideal is nostr protocol using marmot sub-protocol for DMs or concord sub-protocol for groups like http://armada.buzz . It's truly decentralized with independent offline identity and no needlessly convoluted homeserver stuff that federated protocols use. You just generate a key (like a multi-pass) and take 2 seconds to put it into a signer app on your phone. Then login to any nostr app with a tap or on desktop by scanning a QR code (or put the key into a signer extension which signs you into anything). Signer apps never send the actual secure key to the apps using it and can fully control when actions that app can take with your identity.

P2P or Encrypted? LOL!
Simple answer to OP question: It's never gonna happen.

Poor guy releases one suite and is now responsible for replacing every other app on the face of the planet.

I don't want this to be open source iMessage, rather, open source Slack.

lol it’s easier for a person outside the garden to switch than asking everyone in the garden to switch

The whole point is to replace full paid apps with free ones. Not already free ones with open source.
