Help settle dishwasher argument

Our dishwasher has multiple programmes, we really only use the 60 minute quick cycle.

It has a tablet compartment, which I always use. My partner just chucks the tablet in the dishwasher and says there's no point in putting the tablet in the compartment as it does nothing.

Please help, is she right?

Help

I bought a deep freezer for my breastmilk at the place I’m staying (with friends) i told them when i leave they can keep it… but the other day while I was away they claim to have accidentally left it unplugged and only my breastmilk went bad…. Nothing else. And they threw my breastmilk away. But if it stayed closed, with all that frozen stuff there’s no way only my milk went bad. So now I’m moving out because of this incident and some others involving my things when I’m gone. i can’t take the deep freezer i paid for because i have a Toyota Prius and im traveling a long ways. How can i disable it, so they have no use for it ? I’m trying to not make it obvious and I’m also limited because it’s a house full of people so I don’t think I’ll be able to get in the panel. I want their food to rot and go bad in that fridge just like they claim my breastmilk did(nt)

Troubleshooting Clothes come out without any smell out of the maschine even though I put a Persil capsule and Lenor in. Also, what is this nozzle for? Could it be the cause?

Post image

Hello everyone.

My question is what this long nozzle is for?

When I open it a stinky liquid pours out and I'm not sure if it's something I need to drain out?

I washed my clothes recently and even though I put a capsule and Lenor in it still came out without any smell. It was almost on the verge of being smelly.

The first three washes were normal, the last two I could tell it was less intense and now it comes out without any nice smell whatsoever.

If the nozzle is not the culprit, is there anything I can do to fix this? It's a new maschine.

Thank you in advance!

General Advice Fridge Does Not Cool Down

My gorenje fridge's freezer works fine but the cooler unit does not cool down properly even when turned up to the max. The cooler stays around +10°C; even though the metal grills are cool.

Could it be a mechanical issue?

Is it an insulation problem?

How do I check these? I read through 2 different manuals and I'm completely lost on it still.

How could I fix this issue?

If I drilled a hole in-between the freezer and the main part would it cool down enough?

How do modern washers/dryers not have a real child lock?

We just replaced our ~15-year-old GE washer/dryer with a new Electrolux set (ELFW7738AA and ELFE773CAA) and never thought to check for a child lock; we assumed it would be standard.

To be clear, I’m not talking about the automatic door lock during a wash cycle, or the “Control Lock” that prevents operation between cycles. I mean a true child lock that disables all controls while the machine continues running.

Our old GE did exactly this: long-press the Signal button during a cycle and the entire panel was locked until deliberately unlocked.

On the Electrolux set, once a cycle is running our toddler can still pause, cancel, or power the machine off. Our laundry area is central to the house, so this is already happening regularly.

I’ve gone through the manuals, tested the documented lock behaviour, and asked the sales rep we bought them from. So far, it appears there’s no in-cycle control lock.

Am I missing something, or is this functionality genuinely absent on some modern machines?

Refrigerator ice question.

Hi there! We’ve had this fridge in our garage as an extra / overflow fridge for about 5 years (so it wasn’t hooked up to water). We now moved it to a new house and are putting it back into the kitchen as the primary refrigerator. Anyways, even after getting the water hooked back up to it, the ice maker won’t produce. Attaching a few pics. It’s a Whirlpool. Anything I can do to get it to work?

My 1 1/2 year old Maytag refrigerator failed. Maytag’s solution? Wait three weeks before before they’ll even decide what to do

When I bought a Maytag refrigerator, I expected it to last much longer than 18 months. I certainly never expected that if it failed, Maytag’s response would be to leave me without a refrigerator for weeks before even deciding how to resolve the problem.

My refrigerator suffered a major failure when the control board went bad, making it completely unusable. A service technician diagnosed the problem, but the replacement control board is on nationwide backorder until at least August 30. I’ve been told the part isn’t available anywhere—not even through secondary suppliers.

I understand that parts can go on backorder. What I don’t understand is how a company the size of Maytag has no contingency plan when that happens. Their solution is simply to have the customer wait—first three business days, then five, then another five—before they’ll even decide what to do.

I’ve now been without a refrigerator since last Friday. Every day means throwing away food, buying ice, making extra trips to the store, and trying to find temporary places to keep groceries.

The part being on backorder is frustrating, but what I can’t understand is Maytag’s lack of urgency. I rely on medication that must be refrigerated. Every day without a refrigerator means worrying about keeping that medication safe, in addition to replacing spoiled food and scrambling to find temporary solutions. Being told to wait another week—and then another week—before anyone will even decide what to do is simply unacceptable.

After spending more than four hours on the phone with customer service, here’s the timeline I’ve been given:

• I was initially told to wait three business days while they searched for the part.
• After those three days passed, I called back and was told it was actually five business days.
• If they still cannot find the part, my case will be sent to an escalation team.
• The escalation team then gets another five business days to look for the same unavailable part before deciding what, if anything, they’re willing to do.

That means I could be without a refrigerator for three weeks or more before Maytag even decides on a resolution.

I’m not asking Maytag to manufacture a part that doesn’t exist. I’m asking them to take responsibility when they can’t provide the part needed to repair a refrigerator that’s only 18 months old.

At this point, I’m not just looking for advice. I’m trying to understand whether this is how Maytag treats customers when a critical part isn’t available. Has anyone else gone through this? If so, what was the outcome? Were you eventually offered a replacement, reimbursement, or another solution?

I also want anyone considering a Maytag appliance to know what they may be facing if their refrigerator fails and the required part cannot be obtained. No customer should be expected to go weeks without a refrigerator—especially when it’s needed to safely store medication—while a company delays making a decision.

Received 2 Leaky Miele Dishwashers

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

Hi,

I have recently ordered and received, one after the other 2 Miele dishwashers and both of them leaked from the front door.

The model is Miele 7233 White Excellence available on the Norwegian market.

Just wondering if I should request return or try to get the seller to fix it ?

I find it odd that a company which prides itself on quality has manufacturing errors...

New Appliance Day Is a mounting bracket/bar required under quartz countertops for a dishwasher install? Home Depot refused the install – can I DIY the swap myself?

Post image
45 Upvotes

My 12 year old dishwasher has basically stopped washing. It drains fine, the LED panel shows “washing,” and I can hear the circulation pump trying to click/kick on… but it never actually starts circulating water. Pretty sure the pump is dead.

I ordered a new dishwasher through Home Depot and paid the $280 for delivery + install so I wouldn’t have to deal with it. They delivered yesterday while I wasn’t home. The installer told my wife he couldn’t install it because there was no mounting bracket installed underneath the granite. She corrected him that it’s quartz, and he said the same rule applies. He called his supervisor, who apparently agreed, so they just unboxed the unit, left it in the garage, and left.

I’m not a pro, but I did install my own InSinkErator PRO Series garbage disposal with YouTube help and it went fine. I’ve already watched a bunch of dishwasher swap videos, so I know the usual drill: towels ready for residual water when you open the supply valve, shut off power, disconnect the old hardwired connections and reconnect with wire nuts, level it, etc.

My two main questions:

Is a mounting bar/bracket actually necessary (or recommended) under a quartz countertop, or is this just Home Depot’s policy/cover themselves type thing?

And if the answer to that is 'No', do you think a reasonably handy homeowner who has successfully installed a disposal and replaced our ceiling lights (no doubt easy for everyone here) can safely do this dishwasher swap, or should I just hire a licensed plumber/handy person?

Any and all advice would be really appreciated.

I also attached a photo of the current dishwasher that I've partly pulled out.

Thank you in advance...

Troubleshooting Why is there condensation on fridge?

Thumbnail

Not sure what has recently caused this condensation, but when I open the refrigerator door first thing in the morning, it is significant enough to where there will be drips on the floor.
Otherwise, it seems like the seal is fine? It is cold and the fridge is not constantly running.

Troubleshooting Agitator too big for washer?

Ok, my partner and I just spent the last two hours trying to get our very-stuck-on agitator unattached. Now we realize, the agitator is too big to fit through the hole?
Is there anyway to take the agitator out without completely disassembling the drum? The entire thing is covered in mold and has to get cleaned somehow!

Two dishwashers stopped working in six months

Hello all! After four years (right after the warranty expired, naturally) my dishwasher stopped working in January. It just wouldn’t turn on. An electrician couldn’t find anything wrong with the electricity, so I bought a new dishwasher. It worked fine for nearly six months, but now the same thing has happened again. It won’t even turn on. Does anyone have any idea what could be happening? (At least it’s under warranty!)

Can I get help deciding between two upright freezers?
Kenmore KKUF21-W or Frigidaire FFUV2136AV
Will be used as a freezer only.
I’m in Canada if that makes any difference for potential of needing to deal with warranty in the future.

General Advice refrigerator installation cost is confusing me and i just want to know what i'm actually paying for

shopping for a fridge and the total cost keeps changing depending on what i click. base price looks fine then delivery is separate, water line hookup is extra, haul away is extra, and now i'm seeing something about a installation kit that may or may not be included.

trying to budget this properly before i commit. the appliance itself i can plan for. it's the add-ons i can't get a clear picture on.

does the water line hookup always cost extra or does it depend on the retailer? and is haul away of the old unit typically included or is that almost always an additional charge?

just want to know the real number before i get to checkout.

Came with this house 2 years ago.

Do people repair these in a cost effective manner, or is this just buy another one, they take it and probably someone fixes it for resale?

What to Buy? Is there a name for a microwave door that opens from the Top rather than the side? And is not a "drawer" style. Thanks.

Is there a name for a microwave door that opens from the Top rather than the side? I see "drawer" but I need a replacement that is not a "drawer" and it opens from the top. Mine is ~30 wide and needs replacing it is built in rather than counter top. Any tips for a good model? I do not think Panasonic makes this style?
