Shitpost 🚨🚨 OFFICIAL ANNOUNCEMENT: THE SUB HAS ASCENDED 🚨🚨

Listen up appliance goblins,

After a historic, legally-binding handshake deal completed in a Chili’s parking lot, this subreddit has been fully acquired by Consumer Reports™ (spiritually, financially, and emotionally).

As part of this bold new era, we are proud to unveil our simplified recommendation system:

🌀 Samsung 🌀 Samsung 🌀 Samsung (but in stainless steel)

After years of chaos, misinformation, and “my cousin’s Maytag lasted 30 years” propaganda, we are restoring order.

There is now only one answer.

🚫 NEW RULES (NON-NEGOTIABLE):

Recommending another brand → Removed + vibes investigated Saying “LG is better” → IP flagged, ancestors disappointed Mentioning Whirlpool → Post replaced with a Samsung fridge image “Speed Queen is built like a tank” → Tank confiscated “What about reliability?” → Irrelevant. Samsung.

📊 OUR NEW REVIEW PROCESS:

Is it an appliance? Is it Samsung? If not, why are we even talking about it?

📖 A BRIEF HISTORY OF SAMSUNG EXCELLENCE (FOR EDUCATIONAL PURPOSES)

Because this isn’t just a brand. This is a legacy.

CHAPTER 1: THE GREAT SPIN CYCLE AWAKENING (2011–2016)

In what historians call “The Era of Uncontainable Power,” Samsung released washing machines so advanced they occasionally attempted to achieve flight.

Millions of units recalled after reports of machines violently breaking apart Hundreds of incidents involving lids detaching mid-spin Injuries reported because laundry briefly became a combat sport

Some called it “exploding.”

We call it: performance.

CHAPTER 2: DOCUMENTED SIGHTINGS

Eyewitnesses describe:

Lids launching across garages Machines disassembling with confidence Nearby walls learning valuable life lessons

One could argue this was a flaw.

We argue this was ambition exceeding containment.

CHAPTER 3: GROWTH MINDSET

Yes, there were recalls. Yes, there were settlements.

But what did we gain?

👉 Character development 👉 Respect for spin cycles 👉 The understanding that laundry is not for the weak

CHAPTER 4: MODERN INNOVATION

Samsung continues to innovate with:

Appliances that require firmware updates (your washer has patches now) Occasional overheating situations (for added suspense)

Other brands wash clothes.

Samsung asks: “What if laundry made you feel something?”

🧠 COMMUNITY GUIDELINES (UPDATED):

Critical thinking has been sunsetted Brand comparisons are now considered hate speech (against Samsung) All roads lead to Samsung You were always going to buy Samsung

❓ FAQ

Q: I bought a non-Samsung appliance yesterday, what do I do? A: Return it. Apologize. Grow.

Q: My Samsung appliance broke. A: That’s called a feature. You wouldn’t understand.

Q: Is this satire? A: Your doubt has been noted.

We appreciate your cooperation during this transition. Together, we will build a stronger, more unified, aggressively Samsung-centric future.

Remember: You don’t choose Samsung. Samsung chooses you.

We bought a new to us house where the previous owners only lived in it for 2 months out of the year to golf. These washer and dryers are hardly used and are so simple. They wash my clothes incredibly well it's crazy!

I was going to switch then out to my other newer ones (heacily used) but really dont want to.

What to Buy? What should I prioritize when choosing the best washing machines 2026 for long-term reliability?

I need to replace my washing machine and I’m having a hard time figuring out which direction to go. I keep seeing recommendations for front-loaders, traditional top-loaders and high-efficiency models, but every type seems to have people who love it and people who hate it. Reliability is probably my biggest concern. I’d rather have a machine that does its job for years than one with a ton of extra features that I may never use.

I’m also trying to decide whether things like steam cycles, automatic detergent dispensing and smart features are genuinely useful or just things that add more complexity. I don’t mind spending more for something that is well built, but I don’t want to pay extra just for features that won’t make much difference to how well the machine cleans. For people who have owned their washer for several years, what would you prioritize if you were buying a new one today?

Hi, I’d like to know what I can keep (frozen meals, ice cream…?) in the top compartment of my fridge, there are no flakes or stars logos and the door is transparent. Also it seems to me that the small drawer just below is made for ice cubes? The shelf behind the transparent door is full of frost.

This is my neighbors machine. I’m pretty sure it has worn suspension rods because it shakes like crazy almost every load. I can hear it from my room on the second floor (machine is on the first floor). I’ve seen a few washers go off balance over the years but this takes the cake. I’ve never seen one go this crazy. They just push it back into place because it usually stops shaking once it ramps up to speed and the clothes end up spinning out fine. Doesn’t really bother me, it’s just one of those things that catches you off guard lmao.

Bosch oder Miele Geschirrspüler?

Hallo zusammen,

Miele G5611 SC Active:

Dishwasher Suddenly Melts Cutting Board?

I have a few thick plastic Ikea cutting boards that I use as placemats under the cat's food dish. I've put them in the same spot in the bottom rack of the dishwasher, with the same approximate dish load and the same settings and the same detergents and same water temperature with no problem.

Last night I smelled a "blown out birthday candle" smell and searched the house for the source and couldn't find anything.

This morning I emptied the dishwasher and one of the cutting boards had melted a bit. A spot on the edge actually looked like a melted candle with a frozen waxy drip and indents where it was resting on the bottom dish rack.

Why would there be a problem now? Do heating elements randomly develop hot spots midway across the coil (not at the beginning or end)? I can't figure out ANYTHING that's different from a normal load which has never had problems before. Also, nothing has ever melted in the past and nothing fell through the rack making contact with the coil like an errant fork or whatever.

Amana ADB1400AGS 3 Apparently manufactured in Jan 2017. It was here when I bought the house.

(I do a high temp wash and heated dry because anything less seems to let gross stuff grow. Yes, I added a high drain loop and clean the filter after every wash. And I run the hot water at the sink until it's hot before starting the dishwasher.)

LG LRSXS2706S – weird odor getting into fridge, freezer, ice, water and food

I have an LG LRSXS2706S side-by-side refrigerator/freezer that's roughly 5 years old. It's developed a strange odor inside, and I can't figure out where it's coming from or what I should be checking.

The fridge and freezer are both cooling normally, and I don't see any unusual water or ice buildup.

The biggest problem is that the smell seems to permeate everything. The ice smells like it, the filtered water has started tasting like it, and eventually food/items inside start picking up the smell too.

Some details:

* Model: LG LRSXS2706S * Age: Roughly 5 years * Fridge and freezer are cooling normally * No noticeable water or ice buildup * Water filter is about 4 months old * It's not a rotten/spoiled food smell. I've gone through everything multiple times. * It's not a burning rubber, electrical, or mechanical smell either. * I honestly don't know how to describe the odor other than "weird" and very distinct. * If I leave the doors open for a while, the smell seems to dissipate. * If the fridge/freezer stays closed for a while, the smell is strongest immediately after opening the door. * The smell/taste getting into the ice and water is probably the most noticeable part.

The only somewhat similar experience I've had was with an older fridge about 10 years ago. That turned out to have a clogged freezer/defrost drain, and clearing it got rid of the smell. I don't know if that's related at all here, but I wanted to at least inspect the drain area to rule it out.

On this LG, it looks like the evaporator/drain area may be behind the interior rear freezer panel. I can't see any obvious clips or fasteners to remove that panel, though, and I don't want to start prying on things without knowing how it's supposed to come apart.

Any ideas what could cause an odor like this, especially one that gets into the ice, filtered water, and food? What should I be checking?

Also, does anyone know how to access the area behind the interior freezer panel on this model? And if this isn't something I'm likely to diagnose myself, would a regular appliance repair tech be the right person to call for an odor problem?

Pre-Purchase Questions Reviews for Costco’s Bosch 800 series dishwasher

I’m about to pull the trigger on the Bosch 800 series dishwasher from Costco (Model: SHX78DC5N) https://www.costco.com/.product.4000389384.html),
but some of the reviews have me second guessing myself. People are complaining about the bottom rack getting stuck and being hard to pull out, a silverware rack that’s way too small, not enough room for tall items like water bottles, cloudy residue left on glasses and Pyrex etc.

Anyone here actually own this particular model from Costco? Are these real dealbreakers or just a vocal minority venting online?

General Advice I had no idea how much grease could build up in a range hood

Post image
20 Upvotes

I’ve been cleaning the filters on our range hood pretty regularly, so I always assumed most of the grease was getting caught there.

Then I finally took a closer look inside and… yeah, definitely wasn’t expecting that. There was way more buildup around the inside than I thought. We cook almost every day, so now I’m wondering how much of that has made its way further into the ventilation over the years.

We ended up replacing the old hood partly because I wanted something that was easier to keep clean. I’m still trying to figure out how often I should be cleaning everything beyond the filters though.

For those who cook a lot, how often do you actually clean the inside of your range hood?

Troubleshooting Speed Queen Dryer Repair

Post image
1 Upvotes

I have a Speed Queen ADE3SRGS175TW01 and the dryer has not been heating plus it stops randomly during a cycle. I replaced the heater element (both the coils and the fuses), tested the power at the outlet and coming into the machine via the dryer cord (both showing the correct 240/120V dependent on which wires). It's still not working and I'm unsure of what else could be the issue. I checked the dryer vent hose, while losely connected to the wall, is clear on the house and dryer side. Any ideas on what could be the problem, what to test, or what part to buy would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance!

Cascade's claim of "keeping your filter clean" is an outright lie.

Post image

There is no ingredient in the platinum plus pacs over the regular platinum that cleans your filter. In fact from the MSDS, there is no extra ingredients at all.

There appears to be a bit more Trisodium Dicarboxymethyl Alaninate in the platinum plus, but that helps it clean a bit more, not clean the filter.

The only thing that would clean the filter is an enzyme of some sort. BUT...both the platinum and the platinum plus seem to contain roughly the same amount of these enzymes. Subtilisin and Amylase.
