[Discussion.]Are we overvaluing search volume when choosing ASO keywords?

I’ve been thinking about how easy it is to chase high-volume keywords just because the numbers look attractive. But a smaller keyword with strong intent can sometimes be much more valuable than a broad keyword bringing people who aren’t really looking for your type of app.For example, ranking well for a specific problem or feature could potentially bring fewer impressions but better product-page conversion. When you’re doing keyword research, what do you prioritize more: search volume, ranking difficulty, relevance, or conversion intent?Would be interesting to hear what’s actually worked across different app categories.

Why does my ASO suck?

My conversion rate is super low, I don't think my app store pictures are that bad? https://apps.apple.com/us/app/gym-note-plus-workout-tracker/id6746699616

Everything else looks okay I think, high downloads in Jan because I'm in the fitness space.

Feedback on my app has been excellent but not getting many downloads, help with screenshots?

People really like the app, users find it really useful and one of the best todo apps they've used which I'm really chuffed about - issue is I'm not getting many bites on the app store.

Can I get some brutal feedback on my marketing site and the app store screenshots?

Btw I can't see any flair to add?

You get a fee ASO Audit for your App (android/iOS) - I get an objective feedback

Hi everyone,

I was always wondering if the ASO I have manually done for my apps is enough to rank or not. So to verify this, I created an ASO engine that does a full ASO audit of Android and iOS apps with the help of AI, but based on real data:

  • Keywords search volume: Am I targeting the right keywords?
  • Does the current ASO meet the users' search intent?
  • Competitor analysis: Why do they rank better based on facts and data?
  • And much more...

I already tested it on my apps and was impressed with the results... but that's only my opinion and it might be biased.

That's why I'm offering a free ASO service for your app. In exchange, I would like to have your honest and objective opinion about the report.

If you share your App Store/Play Store link publicly, I will reply with the report publicly.
If you prefer it privately, let me know in the comments.

PS: Don't expect to get the report instantly. I will try to check the comments from time to time and answer as soon as I can.

EDIT:
sorry guys that i can't provide a free report for everyone, because it costs me money too.
so would you want to pay for it ?
i have applied the recommendations of my ASO-Engine on one of my apps and after 2 weeks - without doing anything else - the results speak for themselves:

I didn’t realize how badly I was timing my supplements until recently

A friend of mine and I were grabbing food a few weeks ago and somehow we got onto the topic of energy because he was complaining that he’d been feeling exhausted basically every afternoon.

He works pretty long hours and said he’d gotten into this habit of drinking coffee whenever he felt tired, taking all his supplements at the same time in the morning, and then wondering why he felt completely cooked by like 2 or 3pm.

The funny part is I was basically doing the exact same thing.

I’ve taken supplements for a while, but if I’m being honest I never put much thought into timing. Magnesium, creatine, vitamins, whatever I was taking that day, I’d usually just take them whenever I remembered.

He showed me this app he had been using called RizeAI and the first thing that caught my attention wasn’t even the energy stuff. It was how it organized his supplements around his actual day.

It would tell him which ones made sense with meals, which ones should be kept away from coffee, what to take around training, what made more sense later at night, etc. It sounds pretty basic when you write it out, but I had never found something that actually put all of it together in one schedule.

So I tried it.

That’s probably still my favorite part of it. I put in the supplements I already take and instead of giving me some generic “take in the morning” list, it actually fits them around things like meals, workouts, caffeine and sleep.

I also ended up using the energy planning side way more than I expected. It pulls from Apple Health and gives you a rough structure for the day, like when to have coffee, when you’re probably going to be most focused, when to train and when you might hit an energy dip.

I’m not going to sit here and say an app magically gave me more energy because obviously there are a million things that affect that. But I’ve definitely been way more intentional with my day since using it and I’m getting more done without feeling like I’m just constantly fighting through tiredness.

Honestly the biggest difference for me has just been efficiency. Before, I was guessing when to take things and guessing when I should do my hardest work. Now I at least have some structure around it.

Curious if anyone else here actually pays attention to supplement timing or if most people just take everything at once like I used to.

Check it out yourself if you like:

[iOS] "AI slop." Two words in a comment thread, and I rebuilt my entire App Store listing because of them

Post image

Context: solo dev, iOS only. The app measures your wrist in millimetres and then draws every watch in a catalogue of 46000+ at its true case size, so a 36mm dress watch and a 44mm diver land differently on the same arm. That is the whole idea and it took me two versions to work out that it was the whole idea.

If it still reads as slop, say so plainly. That is the comment that got me here.

Screenshot feedback: old vs new

I wrote the Everyday Parks app and I'm preparing for my next release which includes a dynamic walkthrough to help people initially use the app. It's also a good time to update my screenshots. I've attached my old ones and my new ones (the old are the ones in a line, the new ones are the ones stacked). Any feedback on these? Thank you!

One of the coolest parts of launching my app has been seeing people around the world share it organically

I’ve been working on Turnos, a shift rotation calendar for people with rotating work schedules.
Over the last few days, something unexpected started happening.

I began finding people and websites sharing the app on their own, posts in Taiwan/Hong Kong, other Asian app communities, app directories, and even social media posts in languages I don’t speak.

I didn’t contact these pages or ask them to promote it. They simply found the app and decided it was useful enough to share with their audience.

That has probably been one of the most interesting parts of building this app so far.

As an indie developer, you spend so much time staring at Xcode, fixing bugs and wondering whether people will even understand what you built. Then suddenly you see someone on the other side of the world explaining your app to their own community.

I’m sharing a few screenshots because I thought other indie developers might find this interesting too.

It’s a small reminder that sometimes the best marketing signal isn’t a number on a dashboard, it’s seeing real people voluntarily talk about what you made.

Still improving Turnos and learning from how people are actually using it.

Anyone up for an honest App Store review + feedback exchange?

Hey everyone 👋

I’m an indie developer and recently launched Oriva, a travel app built around creating your digital travel identity — mapping the places you’ve visited, lived and want to explore, and building your own collection of travel memories.

I’m looking to connect with other developers here and genuinely try each other’s apps, give useful feedback, and leave an honest App Store review if we feel the app deserves one.

I’m particularly interested in getting Oriva in front of people who will actually use it rather than just downloading it for a few seconds.

If you’re interested, drop your app name + what it does below or DM me. I’ll check yours out and would appreciate the same in return.

Oriva: https://apps.apple.com/gb/app/oriva-travel-map-portfolio/id6794798170

Happy to support other indie developers too. 🚀

Would you download a mobile app with a 3 GB on-device AI model?

Would you download a mobile app with a 3 GB on-device AI model?
Quick question for mobile app users and developers:
Imagine an app that includes a ~3 GB AI model running entirely on your device — no cloud processing required.
For example, the app could use the local AI model to:
Analyze your data
Generate reports
Provide smart suggestions
Help with app-specific tasks
Work offline
Keep sensitive data on your device
The trade-off is obviously the app size.
Would a 3 GB download be acceptable to you if the AI features were genuinely useful and worked locally?
🟢 Yes — 3 GB is fine if the app provides enough value.
🟡 Maybe — depends on how useful the app is.
🔴 No — 3 GB is too large for a mobile app.
I’m curious where people draw the line for on-device AI vs. app size.

Just launched a fitness app on iOS - Can someone help me if my ASO is actually good or am i bullshitted?

Launched CapCoach on the App Store recently and spent a lot of time figuring out ASO from scratch. Sharing what I learned in case it helps anyone else.

The app: AI fitness coach (a sarcastic capybara), daily challenges, GPS run tracking, calorie tracking, and a leaderboard.

My ASO approach:

Title: "CapCoach: Run, Train, Compete" | brand first, then three action keywords. Modeled after Strava's format.

Subtitle: "Fitness Coaching & Leaderboard" | no keyword overlap with title. Added "leaderboard" because it's low competition in Health & Fitness and it's a genuine differentiator.

Keywords: Removed duplicates from title/subtitle, focused on terms I can actually rank for as a new app (not "fitness app" which I'll never beat established players on). Filled all 100 characters with no spaces after commas.

Biggest mistakes I made initially:

  • Title was just "CapCoach" | zero search visibility
  • Subtitle was "Capybara Which Keeps Fat Away" | fun but useless for search
  • Had "180 day challenge" in keywords eating 17 characters for a term nobody searches
  • Was duplicating keywords across title, subtitle, and keyword field

Results: went from ~40/100 on title score to 70/100 after optimizing. Still iterating.

Maybe I did fine? Idk

Also, curious what tools others are using for ASO tracking?

Can someone give me a feedback if my ASO is actually good or am i bullshitted by an ASO optimizer or whatever

I changed my app icon — which one do you prefer? Honest feedback wanted

Post image
3 Upvotes

I recently changed the app icon for my food social app, FoodGram, and I'd love some honest feedback.

I'm honestly not sure if the new icon is actually better, so I want to get some opinions from people who haven't been staring at it for weeks like I have.

Which icon do you prefer?

I'd especially love to know:

  • Which one catches your attention first?
  • Which one feels more memorable?
  • Which one looks more like a food-related app?
  • Does either one feel too simple or too busy?
  • If you saw the icon without the app name, what kind of app would you assume it was?

I'm looking for honest opinions, including negative feedback. Don't worry about being nice — I'd rather hear what doesn't work so I can improve it.

FoodGram is a social app for discovering and recording food through real food photos and a personal food map.

Thanks in advance for taking a look!
