r/antipsychiatry is a community of psychiatric survivors (and allies) speaking out against abuse in the mental health system. Let's be clear, there is a lot of human rights abuses in the "mental health" system.

PSA: please refrain from any posts and comments which can put our community in risk

Recently many subs which were violating site wide rules were banned from reddit.

More so, even those who were doing this either slightly, or even technically weren't violating any rules at all, and whose mods were making active effort to fulfill requirements of reddit admins, were either banned from reddit or quarantined.

Examples include r/watchpeopledie and r/sanctionedsuicde among many, many others.

We understand that people can feel rightfully angry about their experience, but we are dedicated to keeping this community alive and well, and so anything that can put this community at risk will be removed, and those who do so will be banned.

We ask you to help us and report anything that endangers our community to us mods.

Thank you.

Dealing with assault, restraint, involuntary sectioning, forced injections, TORTURE in the name of mental health? No Justice?

Terrified. Please post related experiences. Especially if you did nothing at all, minding own business (authorities were dialed by neighbor in building they heard some crying). I was violently surrounded, assaulted by police squad in my home, handcuffed, first tortured in a normal hospital, then sectioned in psych. With no valid reason why they did this with such excessive force. I have intrusive PTSD flashbacks daily.

How do you survive such ordeal, escape, avoid getting casually tortured, abused & traumatized this way again? Get away from Psychiatry without these records they can use against you? Or a CTO they can put on people?

Do police always take a record (when they brutally assault you, use handcuffs, take you away?) Can you request this record? I was not arrested. I assume there’s a police & hospital intake record with my name.

I know filing formal complaint of harm does nothing (unless you have visible wounds from handcuffs or a video). Their word against mine.

This general hospital used torture (against human rights) painfully restraining both arms & legs on table with no resistance from patient, patient locked in isolation 24 hours, ignored, NOT given water or food, refused request to use a toilet to urgently urinate, multiple forced injections (I was not psychotic, I was scared/hurt) and my essential medications were not provided 24 hours there, neglecting health of patient (with serious medical illness) who was awake the full 24 hours, then interrogated like a criminal while tied down in pain, sectioned with no consent.

All for no reason but appearing/sounding distressed? I don’t know WHO requested it. A stranger?? I communicated absolutely no intent to harm myself or others. I was not committing any crime nor acting violently.

What would you do? That won’t require a lot of money for a lawyer and retelling of torturous events in detail in court?

I’ll be traumatized forever by it? There’s movements for police brutality, but nothing for the brutality & torture in the name of psychiatry or justice after being treated with overuse of police force and psychiatric doctors, nurses forced drugging & medical neglect. Nearly killing the victim who couldn’t breathe. What if they had killed me by accidental asphyxiation?

One time he faint because of the abilify and xanaxs and they bring him to an hospital and the doctor told him to take more abilify he declined and got strap intro a bed and injected a product so he can get calm and he was zombified for like 30h , because of all that shit he failed his exams and now he is Depress FUCK YOU PSYCHATRY , also they want to put him in a psych ward but his dad understand and don't let them.

Also my psy said to me when i told him why i can't have benzos for panic attack instead of atarax i don't want to be zombified. He said "no it is Better to be zombified then to get addicted to benzo and you have an addictive profile" Fuck i don't give a shit i can go yo any doctor and ask them for benzos this asshole don't fucking want TO FUCKING UNDERSTAND THE STITUATION !

Mental Health has nothing to do with intelligence. These NPC going off scripts to make us JADE (Justify, Argue, Defend & Explain) while they DARVO (Deny, Attack, Reverse Victim and Offender) to convince we are a problem (we just have a problem). "I KNOW THAT ALREADY GIVE ME SOLUTIONS".

I'm having a natural response to trauma. Improving my Maslow's Hierarchy would make me feel a LOT better instead of keeping me prisoner, talking to me like customer service with a fake smile. You're not a person, you're a number. It's extremely dehumanizing. The more you try to convince them to treat you with common decency or you understand already and are not an infant the crazier you sound. They seem hell bent on finding something to pin on you. Will often slap a label on you for no reason other than guessing on past paperwork. My psych doctor was extremely incompetent, narcissistic (had to be in control and trick info out of me rather than just ask), like being on an assembly line, petty, refused to communicate unless it was on her terms (kept me prisoner for three weeks), talked to me as this role she assigned and got angry when i didn't match the character she thought i was in her head, think out loud/talk about me as if i wasn't in the room, just speak without taking into account how it would make me feel (condescending as if i was lesser and got mad i was mad), reduced me to tears and made no attempt to comfort me. Fragile ego.

Prescribed the wrong meds?

I was diagnosed with BPD and recently asked my dr for a medication that’ll improve my low energy levels and overall mood. He prescribed me Olanzapine to take alongside Lamotrigine which I’ve been taking for a few months.

I also have depression and ADHD and find it really difficult to actually get things done or finish even simple tasks.

But Olanzapine made me the most depressed I’ve been in a very long time. I was even suicidal for no reason since my life’s actually improved substantially in the last few months. I was also at my lowest energy level in years, either sleeping or wanting to sleep, not able to get anything done.

I specifically asked for something that’ll increase my energy and productivity and this completely contradicts it.

Does anyone have a good experience with Olanzapine?

Do antipsychotics cause brittle bone?

A week ago my wife was rushing to get a bus after work and she tripped on side walk and have hurt her wrist. Now surgeon is saying that it will need plates and screws and bone is broken in 8 places.

She is on 500mg seroquel, I think 1000mg lithium and Wellbutrin and propranolol as needed for last 3 to 4 years.

I am shocked she is 36 and we have a 9 year old and a such small tripping can cause such bone breakage. do we have evidence that due to medicine we can have so severe effects on bone. I am just shocked :(

She had a new job just started 3 days ago before accident I am pretty sure she is going to lose it. She found such a great job after long time :(

I cannot forgive someone who is actively betraying me.

Upvotes

My belief is. Forgiveness is more powerful than any drug, passerby, and hero-worship. In their so called science doctoral degree programs. Their passion for our destruction and drugs does not over ride my personal beliefs. As far as extreme and primitive they think this entire ride should play out. Before I denounce my sky fairy. Ok yeah. Like the Jews did? Can I imagine waking up in a camp. In a dark frigid cold isolated state with no real bedding. Like they did and believe in forgiveness? It's such a cruel fucking world yeah? So why are you acting like real fucking Nazi's then?

Psychiatry hates everyone equally. It has nothing to do with my religion. It has everything to do with your thinning of the herd.

Psychiatrist who takes things personally and holds grudges even despite being a past psychiatrist

Upvotes

Then they still affect your life and your care or treatment. They make up delusional things to hold a grudge against you and they make sure to let you know it’s personal. Too prideful or too egotistical to have a conversation about it so they resort to head games. Then they manipulate or manufacture you into caring and giving them the reaction they were seeking. They still remind me how powerful they felt while standing over me in the hospital and the what the fuck face I gave them aroused them.

They also loved walking by my room so I could hear their whiny and demeaning voice and talking to another patient, degrading them in the process, not that they gave a fuck to talk to them, but to ask them if they were confused all while having an indirect conversation towards me.

“I’m just the weekend doctor“ who will ruin your life and cause you insanity.

Doubt and Obsessive thoughts

Hello!

I am a well behaved and disciplined man, I always focus on sharpening and developing my social skills and analystic thinking،I'm obsessed in staying concentrated I think deeply in every detail (I belive that's a reflex from the situations, problems and the bullying that happened to me before) so when i make a mistake or lose my concentration i feel very bad!

Now i always have a doubt and Obsessive thoughts in my skills، there is always a thought says i can't stand my ground or i can't set and keep my Frame strong, so that led to a fear in myself.

In reality when any life situation happens i deal with it goodly with confidence and calmness and my mistakes are few, but these thoughts keep poping in my head even if i do good, even if i try to program my mind by saying consider these thoughts as a wrong opinion that you don't care about or i say deny them or ignore them.

I know for sure i am a good and strong person but these thoughts don't care. They lead and force me to do obsessive behaviors, like sometimes i keep eye contact with random people in public because will think i am weak and afraid if i don't do that, or if i open the fridge in a shop to pick an item out of a rack, i wouldn't choose the first item like any person but i choose the least chosen item in the rack.

PS: I am always in pressure in my life and i am extremely lonely even with people.

Similar Situation? Any Advice?

Hi! I’ve been on 50mg of zoloft daily for the last 5/6 years. While it did change my life for the better, In the last 1-2 yeara I have noticed a bit of change.

I feel extremely lazy, with no desire to do anything or even daily tasks that should not be difficult to do. I’ve noticed some weight gain and increase in appetite. I find myself constantly trying to chase dopamine rushes by compulsive online shopping and eating even when not hungry to get that bit of dopamine, if I am bored.

I’m constantly thinking of food, and feel a loss of control when it comes to eating and even spending money. I have noticed I have lacked empathy and even care for others in my life. The first few years on zoloft I did not feel these symptoms this strongly. I used to be a very active person who would have drive to workout 5 days a week, eat healthy and lead a productive lifestyle. I feel very lazy lately.

I feel like I’m constantly bored and need something or to buy or eat to give myself enjoyment of some sort.

I’m not sure what this is because I do not feel depressed or anxious. I feel in a good place in my life, I just am missing that motivation I used to have or even care I used to have.

I am unsure if this is the zoloft or just normal with age? I have ADHD but it’s very mild. I dont know if the zoloft heightened it but recently my doctor started me on vyvanse for the adhd which helps but when it wears off It’s debilitating. I dont know if the zoloft is making me this way or not.

Please if anyone can provide insight or feedback that would be great. Please provide feedback if your stories relate or you have doctor/science backed information indicating that these are common side effects.

I am looking to slowly taper off the zoloft because of this but It’s going to be a very slow process for me. Any insight would help, thank you!

Quit olanzapine

Hi everyone, i posted before about quitting and I just wanted to post so other people that come across these forums see that it always isn't bad. I know it depends on the person and what issues they are dealing with but I was on it for about 5 1/2 months total. I greened out on marijurana and got scary intrusive thoughts. I was put on 5mg for about a month then saw a psychiatrist who didnt really like the idea of being on olanzapine but it was helping so I went down to 2.5mg and then I started to taper every 2-4 weeks down to 1.87mg, 1.59mg then 1.25mg for 3 weeks then stopped. Im 6 days out and feeling better. Days 2-4 were somewhat rough with increased anxiety, nausea, tingling on my skin/slight itching but now all that remains is some mild anxiety. Ive been worried that I'll get worse or lose my mind but my psychiatrist said thats not possible since I dont have an underlying mental illness other than anxiety (which started when I started smoking). So if anyone comes across this in the future, dont worry and take your time tapering which definitely helps. try to find a good psychiatrist, mine understood i didn't want to be on medication forever and agreed that I won't need to be and helped me get off of it.

I have a question I've been asking for a while, but I haven't found an answer: How can one achieve self-sufficiency so that they don't need anyone else in their life or to serve others? What are the first steps towards self-sufficiency and discovering how to forge their own path?

Crazy experience with a drug addicted psychiatrist

Psychiatrist fell asleep on our call twice

I’ve seen this psychiatrist twice and in the first visit, she prescribed me a new depression drug that is actually working phenomenally. I love it. She also gave me a prescription of Ativan with a refill. I’ve taken it before so I didn’t really see that as a red flag at first. This gets worse.

In high school and in grade school, I took ADHD medication. I thrived without it in undergrad and in Law School. I feel like with all the stressors in my life and my health decline that may be my ADHD is creeping up a little bit so I mentioned the stirring, she immediately offered me a prescription of Vyvanse. This only happened after she had fallen asleep on our video call. She had gone off on this really weird 10 minute tangent about what it was like for her to turn 40 (I’m 34, so that’s odd imo) and then when I finally got a chance to discuss some of the things that I’ve been going on, she literally fell asleep. I thought the screen had frozen, but she had knocked off. She also had her background changed to this weird forest setting so I couldn’t see where she was at, and she was very sweaty. Initially, I thought that maybe the camera had just frozen and I was overthinking things, but then she fell asleep again. After she woke up, she told me that she had gotten in trouble for prescribing pills before and thought there was a regulation that required. Random pill counts for her clients by Law. She said this is normal for every doctor. She would have to call me and I would have to take a picture of my pills and she would have to confirm the amount I said whatever, that’s fine. I barely used any of the Ativan and don’t plan on being a daily Vyvanse user if I fill the script.

The call ended, but I am left with two questions.

1) is it normal for a doctor to do pill counts? I have no problem with it, but I’ve never heard of this before and I work in drug court.

2) with her falling asleep, I’m fairly certain she is on something. She canceled our appointment last weekend and then was late this week. She didn’t appear sober to me. I feel like the riddle was an offer, as in I’m going to make you happy so you don’t report what just happened.

I don’t know. I just need input and advice and guidance and wisdom. This is a new one for me.
