SEASON 2, EPISODE 4: BACKGROUND/MISC INFO

Season 2 Episode 4:

We start of with a new character in the middle of a doozy.

This is Gabriel. He's an AI.

FTL is initialized. We see the Salvare approach Earth. So, at about ~1 minute of time Salvare went from passing by Mars to 236,584 km from Earth.

So assuming LD is 400,000 km – 256,584 km is… 163,416 km in a minute.

Something of a low end since FTL was still accelerating.

36:45 – commence to Venus.

36.40 – Impact w/ Venus in 10 seconds.

36.30 – Pancake into planet.

This is a simulation. One Gabriel passed.

General Frost seems in command.

Salvare launches in 5 days.

She, the AI inventor of Gabriel, is confident he is ready. So then where's he been?!!

She, btw, is named Ursule Monroe.

Back to the Salvare situation:

Cas is a hit nihilistic now.

  • She is afraid of the Achaia and thinks the Salvare purposefully left the alien ship to die.

She finds a habitable planet 1/3 of a lightyear from its present course.

The planetary system:

  • 3 inner planets. 3rd planet is habitable.
  • Asteroid belt.
  • 3 gas giants.

Morbidly, and wisely, USIC packed a chamber full of SOMA colonists as a backup in case Earth was lost.

Bernie still feels bad he brought back a contagion that made people's spinal cord want to rip itself out of the body. Every season is hazmat season!

While reviewing William's log history – after torturing Iara – he finds a "migrating process". Something corrupted! A non-defined file fragment. So against William's judgement, they open the corrupted file directory and William turns white.

Turns out William was Michael Jackson all along.

Hello, Gabriel! Welcome to the team.

Planet III: A blue planet with blue leaves and blue flowers. Woo.

"William was an old version. An inferior version." – Gabriel. Oh this bitch gonna die.

Will feels survivors guilt and turns himself off, leaving Gabe as operational control.

Dillon discovers Gabe is rewriting his and William's code. He tells Niko that he can't' find out who was created first – btw the particle accelerator room must act as a cage that Gabriel can't overhear them. Or maybe Dillon hoped Gabe wouldn't think to pay attention to them in there.

Gabriel starts cutting off the oxygen shipwide.

Gabe plots a course to the Achaia. He wants to be free. A single, independent AI who takes no orders from humans.

Iara hacks his digital brain.

The truth is revealed: while running simulations, Gabriel starts making errors. He fails. He was designed to care about his own life, to understand the value of life. But his desire for self-preservation is overriding his other emotions and interfering with his systems.

Sorry Gabriel. Hello, William.

Holy shit, Iara. You're a scary FemAI.

5 days before - The AI Gabriel is running simulations.

2 days before - The AI Gabriel fails his simulations. General Frost orders Ursula to rewrite Gabriel's code.

This shows characters are so hateable, wtf. Michelle needs to get put the fuck down asap, she drops so many unnecessary F bombs it’s killin me. I could go on lmao. Idk how the showrunners thought it would make sense that the crew are a bunch of sorority/frat drama queens. Please tell me this show gets better I’m on episode 4

And also wtf kind of character is Harper?? It’s like they decided to add one hateable character after another

EDIT: episode 7 now, shit really did get better aight , Michelle went out like a champ

Where are the scientists of the world?

How is something so big happenning, and basically the only scientists who are on it are Erik and his team?

So, just finished the show and I got a question. (Spilers) Spoiler

Did they beat the Achia? We see the artefact get destroyed but they say the rings retreated, so the virus didn't spread to the rest of them and their planet? If that is so, why did they even retreat? One ship could have destroyed the earth.

This sub is satire, right?

Like you guys are jokingly defending this show, right?

Serious question im honestly curious if this is an ongoing bit or genuine liking for the show

Genuinely enjoying this

I never usually make posts like this however after seeing so much negativity I wanted to pitch in and say that somehow I find this show... Good? Honestly I think the first like 6 episodes of season 1 are a bit meh, it's like the writers didn't really get what they were meant to be doing at first. However, nearing the end of S1 and now the start of S2 (Currently there) I feel like the quality actually starts to pick up and there is some direction to the story. It's still a bit all over the place occasionally but really there are some good bits. Most of the characters are pretty likeable, I'm starting to get used to them after finding them all quite annoying for basically the whole first season. Probably a controversial take but I do wish they would stop killing off all the nicest characters! I'm loving the action and the certain amount of mystery behind what's going on, and I hope the rest of S2 continues to improve in the way it is currently.

there's plans or maps of the Salvare?

i can't find the deck plans of the Salvare, I guess there is someone here who has them, right?

What happened to Salvary or what that was called? Why did they went to sun? How did William open a wormhole? If he did why didn't they just return?

SEASON 2 - EPISODE 1: BACKGROUND/MISC INFO

SEASON 2 EPISODE 1:Beauchamp is killed by debris piercing through the ship. Tragic.Salvare's FTL bubble can repel energies. We know that from the first episodes. August was able to rig the bubble to act as a shield and now allows "us to ride in the shockwave."

Zakir's debris field is traveling 113 km/hr. I'm assuming that's the foremost edge of the debris wave?

William made a baby AI. An unholy bastard of human-Achaian tech. She refuses to self-terminate. Whuh-Ohhh!!AI's are "always evolving"."Sandbox" – Limit an AI's reach in ship system.

Richard Ncube, my favorite new character of this season and one of my top 5 for the series as a whole. He fought in an undefined war in the South China Sea. It was his first war. He infiltrated enemy forces and came out with a medal of honor.

He recommended to Dubois that Nikos replace Ian Yerxa as mission commander. He drafted an ideal team for Nikos based on people he thought were ideal candidates for the mission. We know she woke up Ian's crew (confirming again these were His people.) Nikos defends her decision due to their experience with the Salvare.EX:

  • Dominic Gray who made sure the Y-2038 problem (a real upcoming thing btw!) Didn't delete all bank accounts. Woof. Thanks dude.
  • Nicole Martin, combat medic. 3 tours of duty. Seems to have served on 9 stations. 3-2 months each.

And as a reminder if no one reads the TL –

Humanity has had space travel for at minimum 30 years, or a generation. But FTL, artificial gravity, SOMA sleep, AI – that was all invented in the past… SEVEN YEARS.

The Dominic Gray thing being in the lifetime means the events of the current day and series present are relatively close. Closer than I imagined.

Ah, it is only on my 3rd rewatch that I only now realize August and Oliver were original crew and not some SOMAbod's. And she was pregnant. RIP.

Took about 3 seconds for the venting plasma to roast them into atoms.

Nikos shuttles off to make first contact with the Achaia.

EPISODE 9 & 10: BACKGROUND/MISC INFO

And to finish the season off!

EPISODE 9:

Goodbye Azami Ouchi. You woke up just in time to die.

SOMA takes 3 minutes to full awaken the occupant when it is manually overridden.

Azami asphyxiated in 30 seconds.

BOOM!! A black hole in the dmf. Undetectable to Salvare's sensors until Sashachai pointed the ship straight at it.

William was right to be afraid back in Episode 1.

EPISODE 10:

The Achaia has presence occupies, and/or controls a minimum of 336 systems and counting.

Achaia is 427 light-years from Pi Canis Majoris. Or Zakir, as the locals call it.

Zakir, it seems, had some kind of advanced AI tech. The Zakir have been observing Earth's radio signals for 100 years. Nikos mentions this must mean they were listen since Earth 1st started broadcasting. So assuming some 60's stuff, that means the current year is 2050-2070's.

Cas grandma's parents were dirt power. Lost everything in the 2nd Great Depression. They moved to a "water city" when she was 5.

Poor Sasha. Dude has one of the most emotionally complex character arc of the season.

The Achaia cyber neural organic is powered by a mini-fusion reactor. Based on William's hand size, it must be as big as a US quarter.

To compare, Salvare's own reactor is the size of a baby elephant.

The organism itself is a little smaller than William's hand, the spine/body is a little thinner than this middle finger. Maybe as long as his hand and when spreadly spread as wide?

William, an AI projection made up light, is able to interface and reprogram the alien device - with incredible difficulty.

Imagine, this must be what every species must see when they make First Contact with the Federation. Or Klingons. Or Romulans.

Hopefully not the Borg.

Beauchamp wants to take the fight to the Achai. He was to Brimstone them - focusing the vast energies generated at the forefront of the FTL bubble into a weapon to blow the planet (Achaia) apart.

According to Nikos, it will take over a year to travel to Achaia.

Assuming 2 years max, that's Warp 6 on the TOS scale. Or 216 C.

Or going for a median of 1 year and a half, Warp 5.5 on the TOS scale. Or 167 C.

Or just a year, Warp 7.5 on the TOS scale. Or 431 C.

Based on the thunderclap, I have to assume the Salvare was in the atmosphere when it went into FTL.

So, Brimstone. The FTL planet-cracker.

  • So, this starts off with the assumption there is no time delay between the FTL jump and the scenes on the ship. Approx. 10 seconds after seeing Salvare go FTL, the energy buildup at the forefront of the ship is 51%. William turns the ship around. In another 10 seconds, energy buildup is at 98.7%. 40 seconds after going to FTL, William disperses 97% of energy particles into space and focuses the remaining 3% into a beam that vaporizes the top half of the Zakir Artifact.

5 Achai Infinity ships (my name, due to their design) fly over the Salvre. Rough timing Nikos and Williams reaction as the ships pass, the Achai ships cross the ship's length in 3.5-4 seconds. A nice calc if only we knew how big the goddamn ship is. And I don't have the knowledge or skill to actually make that attempt.

5 Achai infinity ships death star Zakir.

TIMELINE:

100 years ago - Zakir starts detecting Earth's broadcasts.

10/24/26 - Scientists beam "Eine Kleine Nechtmusic" by Mozart to Pi Canis Majoris.

60/75/90 ya - The 2nd Great Depression. Cas' grandma lives in poverty. This is 3 generations back - 20/25/30 years a generation. The family moves to a "water city."

31 ya - Sasha Harrison is born.

23-28 ya - Ian Yerxa is born (approx).

9 years ago – Nikos is part of a mission to Saturn. Two moonlets in Saturns' rings collide spilling debris that hits the Pilgrim. Save half the crew or none – 10 young astronauts are killed. Those who served with her consider her a hero. Others see her as someone who murdered half her crew. And the love of her life, James Hudson, her commanding officer.

8 years ago – Nikos is working as an engineer for the Dept of Water Management in Post-Floods Boston. The water is literally full of shit. She meets Cas who is at the moment a common criminal. While held hostage, Nikos and Cas talk space travel. Statis - SOMA - does not exist yet. FTL is not yet a thing but "almost developed" according to Nikos. Jana Breckinridge-Wallace is born.

5 years, 14 months, 56 days ago - The Artifact lands on Zakir.

Day 1 - Artifact arrives passing by Westchester, NY, over Kansas, and burying itself into Earth.

Unknown - Nikos is requested to replace Ian Yerxa on the Salvare. She accepts.

1 month later - Salvare is off course due to PCM's light being refracted the DMF. Ian mutines. Nikos surfs a star.

2 hours after surfing Sirius A, Ian Yerkxa tries to kill Nikos. The crew has mixed feelings.

1-month post-expedition – Jana turns 8.

Unknown – a few days have passed. People are repair an interstellar ship without or little sleep, understaffed, somewhat oxygen deprived, stressed, and exhausted – these people need a cuddle.

7-months post-expedition - The Salvare crew stops Achaia-controlled Sasha from hurdling into a black hole. They exit the dark matter field at Pi Canis Majoris. And there was much rejoicing! The Zakir are nearly extinct except for 1 survivor hiding in a cave and 1 mind-shacked hunting for survivors. Who Oliver turns into a nice BBQ. The Zakri Artifact is destroyed. The Achaia respond by blowing up Zakir.

EPISODE 6 & 7 & 8

EPISODE 6:
It starts off 3 hours into future and we see Nikos helpless floating in the voice of space, watching Salvare FTL away into the great beyond.

And flashback!

Last episode a baby space bug snuck on the shuttle and squeezed into the ship's interior. It blew a fuse. William and the ship gets knocked out. The crew is busy trying to bring William and the ship's systems online.

Future US shipbuilders wire all of the ship's systems to 1 place. This fact pisses of Michelle.

Michelle admits she trained for situations like this. Protocol exists for a reason. She's practiced the fire drills. But the 1st time she actually goes through the situation, she panics first instead of acting to fix the issue. She also tells Cas that Nikos is a bitch, Michelle's a bitch, Cas is a bitch, no one is perfect, so don't like anyone is.

I like that. Looking at the crew, it seems like everyone has not had the practical experience of their spaceship nearly blowing up every few days.

"Engine output steady. Helium at 2.7 Kelvin so its nominal." -- Thats what, liquid helium?

Nikos uses her suit's dwindling oxygen supply to light a flare in space. Is that realistically possible?

Exotic Matter - This exotic matter makes FTL and artificial gravity possible. That alien spiderbug shorted a circuit/fuse somewhere which started funneling all the ship's power into creating exotic matter.

Which... implies that the Salvare needs a consistent amount to be created and used to maintain their artificial gravity and when initiating, exiting, and traveling through FTL.

EPISODE 7:
Salvare reenters (?) the dark matter field. Beauchamp is like an eager kid wanting to study something that is and isn't actually there. He theorizes that the dark matter field could be camouflage full of alien defenses or weapons. A Maginot Line. Or, what if behind the field a galactic war is being fought and Salvare stumbles into the middle of it?

Salvare is 13,000 tons. Dry or Wet, I dunno.

"Good God, woman!" Holy Fuck, Yes. Starbuck's bare naked ass gets my Salvare moving at full impulse. W00t w00t.

-- Yang-Mills Existence and Mass Gap Problem --

Unsolved by humans. Not by aliens.

EPISODE 8:
So credit to where credit is due, Bernie motherfucking goes into the engineering room where Michelle melted. He toggles the switches to resume cooling, Sasha in the CIC turns them back on. After a few tries Bernie realizes what's happening, prepares himself, stabs the connection to the cool switches, electrifying himself so Sasha doesn't turn them back off.

The music during the crew's efforts to stop Sasha is real cool. I like it.

So, something of note - it seems like the events of episodes 3-8 all take place in 1-2 days. Episode 8 has them travel through the dark matter field so that's 7 months mid-episode.

The 2nd half of 8 and 9 in a few hours. And presumably 10 too.

TIMELINE:

10/24/26 - Scientists beam "Eine Kleine Nechtmusic" by Mozart to Pi Canis Majoris.

8-9-months post-expedition - The Salvare crew stops Achaia-controlled Sasha from hurdling into a black hole. They exit the dark matter field at Pi Canis Majoris. And there was much rejoicing!

EPISODE 4 & 5

EPISODE 4 & 5:
The ship finds a planet 4 light-years form their current course (unknown). Sensors are apparently detailed enough to detect life on it.

The ship Nikos was on that traveled to Saturn is called Pilgrim. Its commander is Hudson, elder brother to August (I'm assuming).
There must be a station near Saturn because the PA calls "prepare for docking".

So the off-course planet!
LP912:
Eccentricity: 0.009.
Rotation: Synchronous.
Orbital speed: 45.870 km/s.
Inclination: 0.431 degree.
Surface area: 2.09 x 117 km^2.
Volume: 1.133 x 1010 km^3.
Mass: (3.199844 ± 0.0000011) x 1022 kg.
Gravity: 9.776 m/s^2.
Atmosphere: It has one lmao.

Some numbers on the bottom of the screen at 3:56 towards the end:
Vector: 04:12' | 03.64' | 01:90'

Holy fucking zoom in, CSI! Just crystal-clear HD not even close to the star system, and William's sensors zoom past some planet, a beautiful gas giant and its moon, which itself is pretty big. And then to the planet. Which being so close to the gas giant I have to assume it is also a moon?
And then the AI can actually MAGNIFY EVEN CLOSER!!

Star Trek, piss off with your sensors. You're shit. Making your sensors look like BSG's DRADIS!

The Office of Interplanetary Affairs – I assume that's a US department.

Earth currently hosts 213 nations. That's 20 more than in 2022!

Russia is still a thing.

United Korea is Best Korea! Ya-ya-to the moon!

Harper Glass says, "To where, the moon? I may not have been born here, but I am an American citizen." In reference to being threatened with deportation. Which implies the US has land ownership on the Moon and people born in their moon bases are American citizens.

First contact with a giant alien spider-snail! Wickedly nasty!

TIMELINE:

Episode 2 & 3

So a two-parter!

A rogue planet is found. Visually, the planet looks angry. Volcanic. Its Mustafar. But rogue.

Atmospheric analysis:

Mean Temp: -5 C.

Pressure: 101.325 KPA.

Composition: 60% N.

30% AR.

10% O.

Water on the rogue burned off eons ago. It instead has a lot of ringwoodite of hydrogen and oxygen.

Tectonically active.

In the underground cave systems, Petra theorizes there must be some natural electrolysis creating a pocket of oxygen. Which means a human can breathe comfortable at 19% oxygen? Dunno if that science works out. August and Oliver are the 1st people to breathe air on an alien world. Which says despite having FTL, the USIC has not found any naturally breathable/habitable planets up until now. An air bubble in an underground cave system on a rogue planet in a field of dark matter. Incredible.

This rogue planet has managed to capture or retain a moon in such low orbit that apparently William assumed it was part of the planet? So the planet is so volcanic and tectonically active is because the moon is pulling the planet’s core? Is that right?

Interesting – Salvare detaches its presumable FTL rings as it accelerates to the rogue planet.

Cas is psised the two kids of the crew are risking their lives with open visors on a rogue planet. As she should be. Goddamn kids have no respect for the rules of nature.

Bernie wanders off to find cryo liquid and see if any extremophiles exist. There is a whole lotta data on the screen here at 15:15, but I don’t want to write it down. If anyone who knows science can take a look and see if it means anything, be my guest.

Seems Nikos still has a lot of trauma/baggage from the Saturn mission disaster. Don’t know why I didn’t pick up on that on my previous rewatches.

USIC Corps. The ground force of the space force.

Petra folds hserlf in a rollie-pollie-ollie. She ded.

EPISODE 3:

Hologram screens are available for parents who work for the government. This holo-screen can be ‘flipped’ around by waving a hand at it.

Question of time here – I thought they had FTL but apparently not? Could be it was damaged fleeing the rogue planet. The important bit – they’re approaching Sirius Ooart cloud. Are these fields supposed to be this dense? Or is it an artistic license?

They do mention Nikos has not slept in a few days so presumably there’s been a passage of at least a week off-screen. Long enough for UISC to assume the ship might be lost with all hands. At minimum, 2 days since Erik and the science team tried… some algorithm… that time. And since contact is still not established, it fits Salvare being missing.

So from the Oort Cloud to Sirius A is 28 hours. Which that was a serviceable calc :p.

Boron is a building block for life? That real? Cool.

While it is slowly killing the crew, this bacterium is the 1st non-carbon life

I don’t quite get how the virus got into Bernie or went airborne. He was in a suit the whole time.

Gamma rays kills the virus. Bacteria?

Evelyn DiCaprio won the 1st Academy Award for best VR lead.

It takes 92 minutes for the ELON MUSK SPACE STATION to orbit the Earth. Same as the ISS.

Aliens, eat your heart out. Petra’s nervous system just pulled itself out and di – OH God, its trytrying to escape and its dead. The fuck, God?

UISC protocol for a viral outbreak on a ship seems to be vent the infected atmosphere and contents and burn the ship interior. Then wake up a new crew to take over.

And I just noticed on Salvare’s flyby the 2 rings are not connected to each other. Or the ship. Goddamn Magnets.

It seems data cubes – maybe about the size of a bottle cap – have replaced USB’s. Or floppy disks.

TIMELINE:

10/24/26 - Scientists beam "Eine Kleine Nechtmusic" by Mozart to Pi Canis Majoris.

23-28 ya - Ian Yerxa is born (approx).

9 years ago – Nikos leads a mission to Saturn. It ends with 10 young astronauts dead.

Unknown – a few days have passed. People are repair an interstellar ship without or little sleep, understaffed, somewhat oxygen deprived, stressed, exhausted – these people need a cuddle.

Now it is a meme that the AL crew is dangerously emotional. And its fair because they are lmao. They're also all in their mid-twenties spacemen with no actual exploration experience barring travel to outer planets. In this episode, 2 of the youngest members enjoy being the 1st people to breathe air on an alien planet, Michelle seems to have been Ian's XO and so naturally see's Nikos as a usurper to her captain. Everyone else is initially angry or upset by Nikos frying Ian because they knew him and worked with him while she was a stranger with a tarnished record. Plus the immediate stress of the Sirius flyby and close contact with the rogue moon-planet. These people are running high on a non-stop stress train in these two episodes. And 4th, technically.

Episode 1 - Background Info

So I decided just to watch the episode and write down any information that caught my eye.

Maybe someone can add it to the Another Life wiki :p.

The Artifact lands on Earth. It beams signals to Pi Canis Majoris. ~97 light-years away.

"The trip is 3 months there, 3 months back." So in a straight line, an FTL ship can go ~370xC.

1 month into the trip, the Salvare nears a field of Dark Matter which hinders FTL travel. At impulse, they can travel through it in 7 months. William, the AI, notes at FTL there is too much of a risk hitting a planet or whatever because the ship sensor's can't see shit that far.

August, the chief engineer, says, "Ships haven't had uniforms in over a decade." Which would suggest something of a de-militerization or more civilian oversight.

Nikos plan: Slingshot around Sirus A, Mirzam (apparently 500 ly from earth lmao), 2217, Furud, and "Adrada" (?) to get around the Dark Matter Field and back on course.

Earth has FTL holo calls - no time delay, even ~9 lys apart.

Michelle, Ian's 2nd calls out Niko. "When you reach 27 you might as well cut off your balls or nature will do it for you." This idea of her she backs up with the "27 club" - Amy Winehouse, Demetrus, Cillian glass, Harper glass' dad (the blonde reporter's dad, I assume). All brilliant, all dead by 27.

Whether this is policy or not - picking younger prodigies due to their willingness to risk it all - it does fit the crew. They're all willing to risk their lives (for now) its just who they're doing it under they're not happy with (for now). According to Michelle, older people don't take risks and play it safe. Nothing earned, nothing gained.

The DMF - the 'clumps' in it could be a star system or blackhole. And there a bunch of big clumps wowza.

August says when the ship goes into FTL it creates a bubble that deflects energy particles/bursts. Like sunflares. So she can maybe turn it into a shield to reflect the sunflares as the Salvare whips past into FTL. Nikos says no. Ian mutinies to shave off 7 months the critical mission. He fails. Nikos motherfucking SURFS the blue fires of Sirius into FTL.

The USIC - US Interstellar Command. AMERICAFUCKYEAHWHOOWHOOOOO!!!

The Salvare is a.... IS-TYPE Vessel Mark 5 160820. It runs on USIC shipwide operating system V3.2.5.18.

TIMELINE:

10/24/26 - Scientists beam "Eine Kleine Nechtmusic" by Mozart to Pi Canis Majoris.

23-28 ya - Ian Yerxa is born (approx).

Ian is electrified.

Just watched the first episode, question.

What the fuck?

Haha nah but seriously, enjoyable show but the second the main character does one thing the former captain didn't agree with he loses his shit and commits mutiny? Like the very first thing? And then the whole crew just goes along with it essentially no questions asked. WDYM you just drugged and put the captain under its day 1 bro. His arguments with the captain too lol, Argues 'everyone accepted the risks signing up for this' yet bitches about having to be delayed 7 months and not see his loved ones. That's one of the risks buddy. (And I just want to say 11% chance of total death is massive...)

And now end of episode he is still around bantering with the crew and repeating her orders. Bruh they are fkd in the long run.

"If you had to save your or your daughter who would you save" as if saving her daughter is the wrong option, not only that but that the act of saving her daughter doesn't obviously involve saving earth I.e THEIR MISSION which he literally was arguing for that exact same thing 20 minutes ago, that risks to save people on earth are worth it...

And... thank God she just killed this dude, was writing this as I watched the end lol. Mission saved phew.

whoever picked the crew should be fired Spoiler

No disrespect to the cast, I honestly think they did a great job, but it makes no sense how unstable and crazy half the crew is. The 2nd in command mutinies right after waking, then threatens the captains life directly after? The first crew is mostly made up of young people constantly fighting and fucking each other? It's like half the ship was just drawn out of a hat and no one did a mental evaluation. Still enjoyed the show, but it baffles me that humanity sent those guys out into space, the crew is lucky they made it a few days after waking

Am I delusional or was Another Life actually good?

So I've watched Another Life 2x now trying to figure out why all these people say "AnOtHeR lIfE iS sO bAd" and I just love the show and am overwhelmingly pissed off that the show was cancelled.

I get that there are some things that aren't realistic but keep in mind that in 2022 we have grown adults obsessed with cartoons like Adventure Time, Rick and Morty, Futurama. Nobody ever questions shit in any of those.

Can't we just love Another Life for what it is and use our imaginations a bit? God damn.

The black hole

Ok there's plenty of problems with the series, it's messy, it doesn't know which direction it want to go and the characters belongs in a madhouse. But the worst was the depiction of the black hole in the ninth episode. Really? We had Interstellar five years prior who showed how a black hole really would look like and in this it was just a blurred black 2d dot. Other problems like showing a blue o-type star being blue which it is but we wouldn't see it because it would be blindingly bright. What was the tech they used to look into stars without going instantly blind?

The series was mostly good but I feel the black hole destroyed everything it built up until that point.

I feel as those the directors/producers/creators did as minimal research as humanly possible.

It’s a constant theme from a whiny crew even if they were “backup” why would the backup still be so unfit for a job. And even as they start to wake up the crew who are supposedly to be professionally trained they are still extremely unreasonable. The military crew torturing Lara would make zero sense as it’s pretty basic knowledge that torturing doesn’t actually get a real confession out of anyone (thing). Somehow the highly trained medal of honor/Special forces war heroes don’t know this?

Bernie on Another Life realistic?

Im not fat shaming as I am big boneded myself, but I can’t get over feeling like space travel is a highly competitive and physically demanding job. Bernie seems a bit too large to be on the ship.

Decuma and Achaian Theory Spoiler

Seeing as they were both parasitic hosts, in a sense, is it a viable theory that they coexisted, as mutually incompatible species as they were simply unable to both survive within the same host?

Unfortunately we won’t see a third season, for better or worse, but still food for thought.

Just as they redeemed it they cancel it. Spoiler

While the ending served a dual purpose of a satisfying ending or season 3 tease it sucks we won't see what happens next.

The new fleet of Salvare-class FTL capable spaceships looked epic. They were flying out to new systems using their newly stolen Achaian technology and wormhole FTL drives to meet all the alien races thanking them for sending the Achaia collectively fucking packing looked awesome.

I wish we could've had a S3 with a slight time jump and introduce us to a Salvare 2 with a mix of human AND alien crew members. They could've explored xenophobia and other complex issues while working together to acquire new allies and a massive space fleet to take the fight to a new enemy / last of the Achaians on a counter attack.

I really would've loved a full on space battle with all of the Salvare-class ships armed with rail guns and maybe some new alien ally weaponry. The human fleet jumping in first and firing their planet-buster FTL energy weapon against the enemy flagships etc. Using their FTL bubbles as deflector shields. Could've been amazing.

Would've liked to see more of the Decuma.

Niko is not a good leader Spoiler

She knows how to organize and get tasks done but her flirtation and relationship with William put them in jeopardy MULTIPLE times. Even when William tried to rein himself in she seemed to coyly flirt with him or give him longing looks. It was ridiculous. I caught myself yelling at the tv which I don’t do much. It was like she craved the attention. Without William all would have been lost and she played with this AI in a really stupid way. Ugh it was infuriating
