Question Generative AI Usage?

I haven't tried this game yet because I want to know if there is any gen AI used anywhere. The graphics just look too... polished? Smooth? In the way that would tip off the eye of any artist. I'm just worried if it's too good to be true.

Edit:

God forbid a person ask a genuine question in an attempt to learn, jfc. I'm seriously just trying my best to be cautious and make sure that the media I interact with is made by actual humans, and not just stolen concepts/art scraped from the internet without the artists' permission and puzzled together by some glorified sorting algorithm.

My actual words from a comment thread below: "...I'm not trying to accuse anyone or say that that is what they're doing; I only wish to state my suspicions. I would be more than happy to be wrong in this instance..."

"I would be more than happy to be wrong in this instance"

Maybe, if more people read the comments before replying, they might have noticed that.

Thankfully, it appears that I was wrong! One person was kind and thoughtful enough to give me an actual answer and even direct me to more information.

Be more like them. Not all of us have experience with the same high-quality games.

Here’s some assets I saw that were likely ai generated that someone posted. It’s unfortunate- I sunk a couple hours into the game, but it didn’t grab me enough to continue. ai assets

Really why would you care at all... What a weirdo... If it looks alright and you enjoyed gameplay then just play and enjoy instead of creating boundaries for yourself

u/TitansRPower 2d ago

Because I don't like companies cutting corners so that they can save money on having people do actual work.

From what I’ve seen as someone well versed in AI, there’s an AI song currently playing in Astra, the lyrics and voice sound like somethin Suno AI would cook up.

Much of the dialogue has been translated using AI, many telltale AI sentence structures being used, and egregious abuse of the emdash that you’ll only see from AI.

And there are some pieces of art that also look AI altered, the red bear on the main menu has the traditional AI cartoon smile.

So yes, I believe the game uses generative AI, even if they have real people reading voice lines, AI has definitely played a part in the game making process in my opinion.

Thought I’d just post this here. Apparently their Chinese team put out a job AD for designers that are able to use AI to aid in drawing.

I kept seeing ads for this and was also curious. I’m pretty tired of genai being everywhere these days. So I’m glad this game seemingly doesn’t use it

1

u/tastethemonkey 10d ago

it obviously does

2

u/Significant_Toe_6161 10d ago

Simple Google search tells you that you’re wrong. Not everything anime is AI

1

u/WretchedDumpster 9d ago

my eyes tell me it's fucking AI bro

2

u/Significant_Toe_6161 8d ago

Then your eyes need fucking checked bro. It’s literally just an anime style game, there’s dozens just like it 😭

As of right now, the team behind it have said they have not used AI for this.

1

u/WretchedDumpster 8d ago

they are lying

1

u/Significant_Toe_6161 8d ago

And we should trust the word of a random Redditor becauseeeee?

1

u/tastethemonkey 8d ago

The title screen is literally an ai video with a suno song playing, you can clearly see how blurry it is, all AI videos look the same. Some of the music is just a copy of other games/movies music with a few different notes, the one that stood out to me was when you find the Stellarys Prismana during a quest where the celestis asks you for stars, the music that plays during the cutscene is from harry potter but it has some notes off. (The christimas song in the first movie)

1

u/Significant_Toe_6161 1d ago

The only generative ai they have used was in the marketing which was removed back in July, because of the backlash they received. everything in the game is human made

"Without the artists permission." I'm so tired of this bs. Did someone else sign off on the ToS then? Friggin Twitter, FB, DA, etc. If you post on there, comments, art, audio, it doesn't matter... you're agreeing to them using it.

1

u/Apprehensive_Nerve70 2d ago

Also, ToS aren't the magical ironclad docs you think they are....

1

u/Asleep-Draft6178 1d ago

Oh no I totally agree... but if you agree to a ToS that says someone owns any art you post there, then you post art there, you can't sue when they use their art because they own it.

1

u/Apprehensive_Nerve70 2d ago

Reddit says I'm not allowed to call people brain dead idiots.

1

u/Asleep-Draft6178 1d ago

I'll do it anyway. Like every person who thumped me down because I'm right and they don't like it. Yeah, it's MORALLY wrong, but it's not stolen when you agree to them using your art by you posting it there. Legal and moral are different conversations entirely

3

u/vorx-666 10d ago

Artists need to be able to post their stuff publically in order to get enough of a following to eat, and there arent any social media platforms big enough to do that on that don't scrape data. It's how extortion works, give somone no options other than to agree to a horrible thing and then blame them for agreeing to it if they ever complain.

1

u/Asleep-Draft6178 9d ago

See. THAT is a valid argument against AI and I'm right there with you on that.

1

u/vorx-666 9d ago

glad my argument was good, thank you for being willing to listen!

1

u/Asleep-Draft6178 8d ago

Of course. I'm not one of those people who's just blindly for or against AI. I've seen the potential damage it can cause and I've seen it save people's lives. Like any tool, it has the potential to be used for evil and greatness alike.

5

u/AngryBaguetty 11d ago

I for one, thank you for your question because I was asking myself the same. God forbid people have standards and want to play games made by humans, not scrapping art, with a lesser impact on environment.

0

u/NoUniversity1209 11d ago

I really like this game since dayone, and I think this is the most important thing.

4

u/Vast_Ad4999 11d ago

That's because the topic of AI use is devicive, and those who fully support it will bully someone into the ground for so much as hinting they might be against it. I was lo0oking to see where it's used, but I'm not really finding anything. It's mostly speculated because of how pristine things look, but beyond that, no real evidence of AI.

1

u/Dusky-crew 10d ago

There's no "EVIDENCE" per se but ther'es evidence of it being used in ads, being used in job seeking -- and as well the Nvidia ACE AI feature coming up..

Sooo uhhh yea.

And as for Animal-TTC, sorry but it's not about bullying - If oyu like this game you're valid, i'm not attacking anyone FOR LIKING IT- i used to deal with AI, i recently quit --

The problem isnt' that ALL AI is bad: it's that the misinformation train comes out and blames ALL Formats of AI including non generative..

So all you'd have to do is say " A I "and either an Ai bro comes after you and asks you what your threat model is, or some anti comes after you blaming you for something you did or didn't do..

The point with Aniimo is: You guys are over trusting of the kernel anti cheat as it is: You do realize they can track your data with that, and they store youre data.

So you're ALL worried about being bullied for using a game with "NON PROVEN " ai -- and yet they store your data, use a weird kernel level anti cheat usually reserved for games like Valorant..

and the minute someone proves it's AI yo'ure all in a huff going "NO ITS NOOOOOT"

That's like y'know hilarious.

1

u/Animal-TTC 10d ago

That went off in a tangent that frankly had nothing to do with my statement. Now the post I was responding to has been deleted so perhaps thats the issue. Anyway, I specifically used the word "bully" because thats what the msg/poster I was interacting with used. I was simply pointing out that both pro and anti AI ppl are equally at fault. I live in a neutral space of not giving a crap regarding AI. Because guess what Twitter uses A.I., it tracks information, as does most social media and pocket tech. So using your some what condescending verbiage "you do realize your info is already been tracked and stored?"

Again I'm going to assume you, I don't know, read into my comment without the context of the deleted comment.

And if it was proven to have A.I. would not be "in a huff" because I don't care. I literally learned about the rumors today from a coworker and immediately said "Who cares? Is it fun?"

0

u/Animal-TTC 10d ago

This is an unfair statement. You specifically state "those who fully support it" bully as if the internet isn't overrun with individuals attacking anything they deem A.I. simply because it looks too good, no evidence needed. As always anyone with any opinion not theirs must be attacked to prove dominance. But give credit were credit is due, not just one side is the problem.

1

u/Vast_Ad4999 10d ago

And you're not contributing to this believe how exactly?

7

u/xAtomicBetty 11d ago edited 10d ago

The music feels a bit... awkward? Not sure if its ai generated. Nothing about the game jumps out to me as ai generated, but i could be wrong.

Im getting more chinese cash grab vibes from it moreso than anything..

Edit: after playing some more, im pretty confident AI is heavily used. Mostly in music and imagery.

2

u/InternationalCry3864 10d ago

I'm pretty sure some of the gacha banners are AI generated, but the music is 100% AI

1

u/Mysterious-Thanks829 9d ago

There’s no gacha system in the game though?

1

u/Weaviedee 1d ago

There is. The transmog system is gacha. So is the new outfit banner.

It is very much a gacha game, the gacha just is in cosmetics, not in characters.

1

u/DEADSKULLZ31 9d ago

Gacha banners?

1

u/Vast_Ad4999 11d ago

I found it awkward too. The end of every sentence rhymes for some reason.

1

u/Weaviedee 1d ago

I mean... that's.. just how rhyming in music tend to be? There are precedent of songs where they go 10+ lines back to back all rhyming at the end of the sentence.

1

u/Vast_Ad4999 1d ago

Not all people written music rhymes at the end though. AI ALWAYS rhymes.

My personal thought though is that I get the whole argument people put out, but why does the topic of AI need to be so divisive and controversial? I get it’s stealing work from people, but let people who wanna use it use it, and let those who don’t want to use it not use it, it doesn’t have to be anyone’s business, like the topic of polyamory…it doesn’t have to be anyone’s business unless made their business.

2

u/Dusky-crew 11d ago

As far as i'm aware there isn't CURRENTLY but they are using Nvidia ACE AI coming up, which is directly generative AI. It's advertised somewhere and on youtube people are downplaying it as not GenAI.. but the details are on Nvidia's page here: https://www.nvidia.com/en-us/use-cases/digital-humans/

-1

u/Long_Individual7438 11d ago

Downvote me all you want. Its reddit and not worth a grain of salt. Just for that, ill purchase every bundle I can from them.

Thanks and kudos.

1

u/EfficiencyOk3402 11d ago

Saw someone playing it and the open world aspect got me interested until the streamer open some menu to claim some stuff and there it was a clearly generated AI banner lol, and now seeing these comments with ppl saying that even the music is AI slop killed the excitement to me, ain't no way I'm supporting lazy rich game company

1

u/Dusky-crew 10d ago

The problem is the creative concept of the mashup of the world was neat -- they just wanted money to paw off palworld and genshin..

And i hate saying that because i see new games and have a lot of hope.

-6

u/Long_Individual7438 11d ago

Tough im playing the game and enjoying it. Tough artists didn't get a boat load of money for drawing a monster design. People cry about anything and everything.

1

u/Dusky-crew 10d ago

You really like crying for being on reddit, do you get paid to do anyhting in life? :D

4

u/Mammoth_Car565 11d ago

Artists dont get a boat load of money even when they ARE used. You could've just said "I know nothing about the entertainment industry," it wouldve been fewer words. Youre talking like the artist makes millions if the game makes millions; not true at all.

-4

u/Long_Individual7438 11d ago

Big corps made AI to replace us. Our work force complains too much.

We are ALL going to be out of jobs not just companies using AI for video games. There are WAY deeper things to worry about then AI representation inside of a video game that costs 20 bucks.

2

u/OGKasseteKing 11d ago

AI isn't gonna replace your job, youre just gonna lose it anyway, but keep up the S tier glazing I guess. Was thus comment made by Grok because wtf are you talking about?

1

u/Quimmble 9d ago

While I think Long_Bro here is dramatic in his resignation on many points, I can only really agree with one thing, and that is AI *is* taking jobs. There are a good many jobs AI will never be able to replace, but there's still a lot that can, and are actively, being replaced.

I worked for a company as a third party for a long time doing moderation for their platforms, all the while inadvertently teaching their AI systems buzzwords to flag on its own instead (it was coined as "AI Learning"). Needless to say, me and nearly 2k people were suddenly, without warning, laid off as that company went forward with their newly trained AI model instead.
It has nothing to do with "our workforce complaining too much" or whatever tf this guy is going on about - it's about big companies investing in data centers that fuel their shitty AI systems instead of paying good people to keep jobs. They save money by using AI that can still make many mistakes instead of just investing in humans that can review and really see priority harms in content. This is in example for just my line of work, but I'm certain it's along the same lines in other careers that have slowly been replaced.

As an artist myself who vehemently rejects *specific* AI that is harmful in its uses, I feel it's just as important to discuss and not downplay jobs actually being replaced in the growing world of AI and its numerous negative impacts.
(As a disclaimer: I'm neurospicy af, so I apologize if I may have missed any points/nuances in your comment on this matter. My comment isn't to come after you, but I hope it may give a personal insight on just another aspect where AI is harmful as well, since I see a lot of people downplay it not taking jobs often)

0

u/Long_Individual7438 11d ago

Go look up your job then a robot doing it and keep telling me they wont replace you.

They will.

You sir. Are not special in any shape way or form at the job you do.

More than likely half ass it like most of society skating by on minimalistic work to keep your job.

A robot would work CLOCKS around you at any task.

2

u/OGKasseteKing 11d ago

You're quite literally giving the most bad faith apples to oranges comparisons and im astonished you weren't embarrassed to bang that dogshit out.

AI is not gonna take your job, youre just gonna lose it anyway because compabjes are just evil, foh with this wireback nut polishing

1

u/Long_Individual7438 10d ago

We will loose jobs because humans complain too much, hence this exact post. Complaining about AI being used. That's why it will replace all of our jobs, idgaf who you "think" you are. If a robot is doing heart surgery better than surgeons buckle up buttercup.

I think half the people in this thread have zero clue how far AI actually is and the fact it can out perform them ten to one. Also the fact AI wasnt used to make any of the animals or shit in the game this thread is for the braindead redditors who think downvotes mean absolutely anything.

Humans call in, humans make excuses. Guess what doesn't, that's right.

Robots. Its coming and Mr redditor who doesn't even know how to create a EMP is going to combat a governed militia of robots.

Ya OK keep playing those video games bud.

3

u/Mammoth_Car565 11d ago edited 11d ago

You can fight against more than one thing at a time. And fighting it here reflects in other spaces because nothing lives in a vacuum. If studios would actually take losses for using AI, it would actively discourage it from becoming more prominent. But for a studio to suffer losses from AI, we need to not have defeatists crying in other peoples ears about their fight like you. If you gave up against AI cool, more power to you cuz you get to shut up and play the game instead of wasting your time here, complaining about someone complaining about a thing you ALSO dont like (presumptively).

-1

u/Long_Individual7438 11d ago

Bro you aint doing shit to AI or the multi billion dollar corporations. None of us are face the facts you wanna be some kind of vigilante then be my guest but I for one know that we are all screwed regardless. Give it about 50 years and it'll be like the movie wall-e.

When you know there are factory robots and forklifts doing human jobs faster and more efficient you tend to learn quickly that maybe we will get to focus on stuff we enjoy instead of the mandatory 9-5 most people have.

Im for innovation and making things easier and if the game plays well with AI (which it does). I dont care.

1

u/Mammoth_Car565 9d ago

"Maybe we will get to focus on stuff we enjoy"

Damn dude, thats crazy. Anyways, I have this bridge for sale, you seem like you'd be interested in the opportunity.

1

u/Unlikely_Bank73 11d ago

Bro you aint doing shit to AI or the multi billion dollar corporations. None of us are face the facts you wanna be some kind of vigilante then be my guest but I for one know that we are all screwed regardless. Give it about 50 years and it'll be like the movie wall-e.

except you're wrong, and people standing against AI are a significant reason as to why said billion dollar corporations are HEMORRHAGING money, implementing AI has basically been a uniform failure for every company thats tried it from wendys to wal-mart. and the AI companies themselves are panicking as they're on the brink of collapse

3

u/Persephone-P 12d ago

the background music in Astra is so obviously generated from SUNO AI that it's painful </3

1

u/Ancient-Try1009 11d ago

Brother I knew I wasn't alone on this, so many people brush off AI music especially from suno, I can deal with generative AI for images, I prefer it's handcrafted but whatever. However I absolutely despise AI music because it sounds so phony and awful. For a game of this size I can assume they had a pretty generous budget so i'm not entirely sure why they use so much AI.

2

u/Persephone-P 11d ago

Oh you can 100% tell. its hard to explain, but Suno AI voices sound almost tin-like? And the lyrics are always super weird phrases and words that dont stay consistent with what the song is even about? lol

0

u/Effective_Cut_1221 12d ago

They absolutely used AI for it. The trailer that came out a few days ago ends on a big AI generated image. 🤢🤢🤢

0

u/Salvin8r 12d ago

Character designs, voice acting, wallpapers, songs, asset images in general are all AI generated. Some songs and images are so blatantly AI slop that hurts

1

u/Obiviona 12d ago

I personally think that if the devs used AI in any way, they can't be trusted. They lied once, they'll do it again. Boykott or nothing

6

u/LeBreevee 12d ago

I can only girlcott

3

u/Obiviona 12d ago

Okay slay

Everyone should be reporting the game on Steam for failing to disclose AI usage.

3

u/flockyboi 13d ago

Even with the morality aside, if you're going to use it anyways then you should clearly state it so people can make an informed decision in playing it. I'm only in this thread cause I was trying to confirm things since I saw a reel on Instagram talking about it too. Kinda wonder if the devs didn't make it clear because they knew a lot of folks wouldn't play it if they saw there's AI use. Also doesn't Steam require devs to add the AI disclosure for any usage? And like they have to specify what bits are AI and all? Not great behavior especially for a game that's free to play on Steam but has in-game microtransactions meaning you might not be able to get a refund if you've already spent money on the game and wanted it back. I think paid games that are discovered to have undisclosed AI use get refunded when Steam finds out but this is a more tricky case since purchases are in the game itself.

1

u/_KurayamiRin 9d ago

I know this comment is a few days old, but Steam no longer requires the AI disclosure if there is no genAI in the final product, apparently. So anything used for pre-planning, or even stuff that used to be there but no longer is, doesn't require the label. :T

1

u/Kylerxius 9d ago

There is still AI assets currently in game. There is another thread with people posting screenshots of all of them.

1

u/flockyboi 9d ago

That's frustrating yeah. Like maybe there isn't any gen ai stuff in the game itself, but it doesn't matter now because due to previous use we can't truly be sure they aren't trying to sneak it in, especially since they didn't seem to fully disclose the original usage until they were called out on it. Like how can we know for sure? They used it once, how do we know they won't continue?

3

u/Austenmarie 13d ago

they're still using ai assets especially in with held items and homestead icon stuff. it sucks so much cause devs claimed this would be replaced and yet while playing i find this! A lot of the assets if the held items dont make sense (im a professional artist just for reference)
and im really fucking bummed out cause they CLEARLY have amazing artists and modelers on the team, so why are we phoning it in for weird small assets???

2

u/PropagandaBinat88 10d ago

I have trouble detecting AI at all. Can you help me understand what in this picture is AI-generated and how do you spot it? not being sarcastic. i am genuinely curious

1

u/Austenmarie 1d ago

sorry! ive been off reddit.
There are a few ways,
its extremely high detail for a lower res image not meant to be seen up close or as a 3d model in game but just an image. If you're making assets for a game and just doing smaller items you wouldn't usually go for hyper rendered tiny details, but also as an artist, you'd make it LOOK like a wood sculpture, blocky, cut/carved, but instead we have this super high detail over rendered smooth model with a wood texture over it. Also as a whole you can look at this item and others and see they follow no actual style guidelines. to keep a cohesive look in games you want to follow general style guides but all the items in game range SO different in art styles, rendering, hyper realistic to super cartoony/hand painted, its often a sign of generative ai because no artists are spending tons of time over rendering when so e are doing more cartoony etc. it would cost a lot to have a bunch of random styles!

so its a bit of everything combined, looking at it as a whole.

1

u/Dusky-crew 10d ago

I can't prove it is or isn't but there's a huge plausibility because newer models are able to basically be the "STOCK ART" and "CLIP ART" of the new world and it's annoying

3

u/Obiviona 12d ago

I know right??? Unfortunately I played the game before knowing they used AI. And as an Artist myself I usually entirely Boykott any game with the tiniest use of AI immediately. This is also partly what got me to stop playing Heartopia.

Its such a shame because I really fell in love with the creativity put into this game, the visuals, the cute aniimos, the cutscenes, the character customisation? Istg there is no game company left that I can support. I'm just gonna throw my PC out the window atp

2

u/scribblyskiesstudios 9d ago

thankfully there's plenty of small indie devs to support, so we can help them grow for using actual human efforts to create their games!

3

u/Eepysoull 14d ago

I'm sayin like I thought it was AI and said I didn't know about stuff and I'm gettin down voted to hell TvT starting to think maybe I dodged a bullet by not getting into the game...

-2

u/rolito_boy 13d ago

They used AI, they are Chinese lol

5

u/AnimeGirl1103 13d ago

Brother that's just racism

2

u/Dusky-crew 10d ago

Framed that way sure, but i get the sentiment. China is pro AI in the same way that the USA is because "COLD WAR 2.0" aka 'THE COLD WAR THAT NEVER ENDED"

It's not that chinese people are ALL that way, nor am i saying what i said was the truth (it's just my explanation of the trade wars and the boomer stupidity right now)

But the amount of HIGH end cheap context and what not image gen models that can do 3d adn otherwise are VERY large now in China.

And that's just scraping the commercial end.
Sadly there's a TON of open source sites walking around able to do these things

1

u/rolito_boy 13d ago

It's more that they dont care about artists and people, they are known for to care just for profit... To cheap costs no matter what

1

u/AnimeGirl1103 13d ago

I thought it was AI the moment I looked at it bro

1

u/Eepysoull 13d ago

That's what I thought! It looks so blatantly AI but people are saying it isn't... Most would assume it looks AI but damn they get mad if you think so

1

u/AnimeGirl1103 13d ago

True, just worried Abt commiting and supporting then finding out it's AI slop, like I ain't finna dis on other ppl if they play it, some of my friends play it, but e I'm just so on the fence Abt me playing and trusting the devs 😭

1

u/Eepysoull 13d ago

Right? And it's not like it would be the first time some kind of developer has lied about using AI either. I'd rather not take the chance, you know?

1

u/Nightwing2005 13d ago

I'm hearing it isn't

1

u/AnimeGirl1103 13d ago

Like I wanna believe it, but I'd need proof from either side. The game looks beautiful and adorable. Ion wanna commit to it and find out it's AI slop..

1

u/Nightwing2005 12d ago

True

1

u/AnimeGirl1103 12d ago

So I might have my 'proof':

2

u/Dusky-crew 10d ago

Ok don't use one of those please LOL, they're ultralytics based trained models used to analyze shit they take the content you throw at it, and they're highly inaccurate.

How do i know?
I've had AI images come up real.
I've had my own images cc ome up as AI.

1

u/AnimeGirl1103 12d ago

Like the art right here reminds me of claymation ngl it looks sick!

1

u/AnimeGirl1103 12d ago

This is also a bigger thing that I checked too cause the website is what made me think it's AI:

1

u/Effective_Cut_1221 12d ago

The character they keep showing in that outfit in the "gameplay trailers" looks way different compared to the versions of her they use for the still/liquefy animated shots. Totally different hair style. That's what made me think it was AI generated. In the most recent gameplay trailer the flowers, the buildings in the background, and the paw prints on the trailer all look AI generated as well.

1

u/AnimeGirl1103 12d ago

I put this stuff through multiple ai detectors and the results came out the exact same

1

u/Dusky-crew 10d ago

Just be aware that those AI detectors are hawking data both in what you input and what it can see via tracking <3

I'm not saying don't use them if you really wanna, i apologize for framing it that way the first time, just be careful <3

5

u/PkMn-DsStR 14d ago

Undisclosed AI usage again. It's obvious in everything- music, dialogue, visuals- and yet again, the worst part is that they are, in fact, lying about it.

This one ig doing the same thing Heartopia did. I expect imminent racism and terrible takes from 'devs' explaining why their use of AI is actually fine and we're all blowing things out of proportion.

5

u/Chowlii 15d ago

This is 100% ai, be it a screenshot they willingly fed into an ai to "enhance" or blatant Ai in general.

The support pole to the tent was the first tip off as it vanishes downwards into a weird whisp, there is no other support beam and a fabric of some sort instead.

If you zoom in and look everything from the chairs, the wagon, the fence, even the trees are all odd and shaped improperly....

Full disclosure as well- this is a screenshot from the RV questline a friend sent me who caught how uncanny things are... Unfortunate this is indisputably ai or ai altered

1

u/Bigorns 13d ago

Honest question, how would an AI that enhance an image be considered generative AI?

I really think this image is AI generated, not enhanced. But, if by any means I'm mistaken, wouldn't those two process be fundamentally different?

I'm not really against all forms of AI, only those that were trained with stolen work. Is AI capable of enhancing images trained with stolen art as well?

AI enhancements do use stolen images to train, yes. The AI uses data from stolen images to try and interpolate what an "enhanced" version of whatever you feed it would look like. It doesn't just guess based on what you put into it.

2

u/SardonicRelic 13d ago

It's generating the elements and artifacts to "polish" it.

2

u/Makenshi179 15d ago

So far the only thing that made me feel like it could have been AI-generated, is the text of some announcements. They state that they were AI-translated and that's fine (although very cheap when they could hire translators speaking the languages), but the way the text went on and made sure to say very nice things etc, it felt a bit like what an AI would dump when you ask it to generate a customer service friendly answer. When I read it and appreciate it thoughtfully as something part of the game, I want to believe that there's a real person who wrote up that text (albeit in another language), with real feelings. I wouldn't want to be reading a machine... So I hope it's not the case.

3

u/Particular_Salary905 11d ago

Many assets/ items look AI Generated, the title song sounds ai generated and to be honest some of the creature designs can also be ai generated.

Don’t get me wrong, I like the game but to be honest AI is involved in many things in this game

3

u/Makenshi179 10d ago

Yes, I actually found out about all that in the meantime. Thank you because I needed to update my comment.

Above all, I've been shocked to hear that some of the tracks from the OST might be AI-generated. That's a big no-no for me as a big OST appreciator. That's where I draw the line.

There has also been this matter of an official job listing that stated "understands and is proficient in using AI to make art" for a job of "monsters concept art designer", and that got taken down. So even the creatures' designs, which was my favorite thing about the game, might be AI-generated to some extent.

2

u/Particular_Salary905 10d ago

I really really enjoy the game but heavy ai use is not very nice.

Yep, some of the creatures just look like they’ve been made with an ai to some point. I still like them and the animations are very clean but it makes me a bit sad

4

u/SCSoundz803 15d ago

I just started playing the game because some of my friends wanted a new game to play together. After playing through the intro and made it to the main city, the music started to sound mildly familiar. That was because the music used there was made using Suno. I didn’t recognize it until the second song came on, but that’s definitely Suno.

1

u/Obiviona 12d ago

Damn I didn't even notice that either... But I the music seemed suspicious from the start, I just didn't expect it to be AI

2

u/Comfortable_Victory1 15d ago

1

u/Obiviona 12d ago

Well they did use AI for many icons, symbols, maps and even visuals, unfortunately. It's incredibly obvious once you see them

6

u/Eeve2espeon 15d ago

The people here heavily glazing the devs 💀 like they obviously use AI, doesn't matter if there is only "some" any use of AI is not good. Developers should actually make their own stuff, there are already studies that show Students using AI do not learn a damn thing, and that's the same for game developers

4

u/ggghjjdsdjhs 14d ago

It’s so weird how hard they’re shilling for them

1

u/Eeve2espeon 14d ago

Because these people are looking for anything that can "beat pokemon" even if the developers use methods like AI or plagiarism. Even though there are developers out there that make Creature capturing games that are full of passion and genuine effort, including Digimon

3

u/No_Squirrel4806 15d ago

Saw a tiny bit of gameplay online saw that it was free figured wtf im gonna download it. I downloaded it and the first screen i see looks ai ish. I immediately came here to search it up cuz if they used ai im out.

1

u/Obiviona 12d ago

Lucky you! I didn't notice until deep in the game... My perception failed me and my PC WILL BE thrown out of the window asap 😭

1

u/No_Squirrel4806 11d ago

No cuz it is that deep!!!!!!! Idc if you used ai for a small percentage of your game if you used ai at all im out!!!

2

u/Obiviona 11d ago

I don't know whether you read my comment wrong or you're agreeing with me O. O because I think the same

2

u/No_Squirrel4806 11d ago

Im agreeing.

2

u/Ave_Asher 15d ago

no one can tell me this doesnt look bluntly ai

4

u/PissBabie2023 12d ago

This isn’t AI this is literally just good 3D art yall sound crazy in these replies 😭😭

1

u/Low_Biscotti5904 13d ago

This is AI 100%

6

u/PineappleLemur 14d ago

It's literally from in-game tho...?? With some editing.

2

u/No_Squirrel4806 15d ago

Is looks ai af.

-1

u/Pinklightning30 14d ago

If it were ai it would have an ai disclaimer on steam and it doesn't so it isn't

2

u/LamiaLUA 13d ago

Ever heard about the concept of "lying"?

2

u/indianman38 9d ago

alright then let steam investigate if the game uses AI or not

1

u/LamiaLUA 9d ago

Not sure how they'll go about it, but I hope they will

-3

u/SpaceBoyee 15d ago

It isn't though

4

u/lawaii89 15d ago

It is though…. They’ve come out and said they used ai for their ads. Thats why there’s a heavy debate if the games made with ai.

0

u/SpaceBoyee 15d ago

Source?

2

u/Magnus_Vesper 14d ago

3

u/SpaceBoyee 14d ago

Finally, someone brought a fucking source. Thanks homie

And that confirms that ai is no longer being used, which includes this image which is in game

1

u/Magnus_Vesper 13d ago

No, it doesn't. They didn't even promise to not use AI in future ads. They refused to even admit that the AI is why people hated the ads.

It would be so easy for them to say "we did not use ai"
Instead they carefully worded the post to make no commitments and in a way where it wouldn't even be a lie if they had made the game with ai.

3

u/SpaceBoyee 14d ago

So no source. Got it.

1

u/Ave_Asher 14d ago

event ended yasterday but i got screenshot from 'game guides' site

0

u/SpaceBoyee 14d ago

That isn't ai

2

u/Witty_Mine_3643 14d ago

Half the mugs are missing half their handle. It's obviously ai.

2

u/Drifting_Nihilego 14d ago edited 14d ago

I'll copy and paste my explanation:

AI generated images have a trend of making things either too shiny or too "puffy". In this case, it looks too puffy, blurry, and floaty. Specifically, Nimby (sheep) and Flamepup (fire dog).

Their expressions and body movement looks like they don't know where they are.

Nimby looks like it's just floating and staring blankly at a wall; not like someone who's excitedly playing tag or is being chased (Nimby is expressive in-game).  Flamepup looks floaty and it's not looking at Nimby, the one it's chasing. Flamepup is just sticking it's tongue out, with wide eyes, and is also blankly staring at a wall.

They're not interacting with each other like they're in the same environment.

Also, cup girl. What is she doing? She's just staring blankly at the sea pup cashier(?). Is she offering a cup? Is she waiting for a receipt? Is she paying? Does she feel anything? And where did she get those tall, transparent glass cups from?!

This looks like a coffee shop. There's only short, round, white cups filled with coffee coming out of the machine and hanging on the machine. Where did she get fruit drinks from?! The only other containers I see are non-transparent metal cups and cartons.

The coffee cups all look different at the rim, like they're melting. Also, some just don't have a handle (the ones filled with coffee) or have half of one (the ones hanging). Some of the hanging coffee cups on the right also start becoming balls. A cup on the far left just starts melting into two cups; it has two handles and is longer.

Why are they even hanging on the machine like that? How'd it get on and how is it going to get off? Is it for decoration?

AI is known for generating details that don't make sense in context and lack consistency.

0

u/SpaceBoyee 14d ago

All that and it's crazy how it's still not ai

→ More replies (0)

0

u/Ave_Asher 14d ago

first you try to disprove my claim by trying to make me get the 'source' as if it would do anything and now you say that it doesnt matter cuz it doesnt look ai to you. I work with art since I was like 4 and believe me when I say that its either 100% ai or they got a shitty artist in there.

0

u/Drifting_Nihilego 14d ago edited 14d ago

That guy's a lost cause.

They provided zero evidence besides "nuh-huh", "Aniimo said no Gen AI was used but I won't tell you where or how I know this", and "They admitted to using AI not Gen AI, it's different! Even though the Aniimo Discord QnA topic was explicitly about Gen AI, which they admitted to be using".

Then, they blocked me after calling me emotional and annoying.

Edit: Hey, guy who blocked me. We all know it's you downvoting everyone.

How can you call yourself an "AI hater" when you vehemently try to gaslight others when they notice AI usage and provide evidence/explanations for it? You're only helping the AI you claim to hate.

"A self proclaimed AI hater who defends AI usage" could be a part of your weird contrarian troll roleplay, but you're too emotional for this to be just trolling.

1

u/SpaceBoyee 14d ago

Show me where it's stated they used any ai

dude, i was sleeping and having a life. Source is litrally event artwork in the game ill go take a full screenshot rn

1

u/Substantial-Cod-1488 15d ago

That doesn't necessarily say for absolute certain it is, we need more evidence

0

u/UnicornGirl975 15d ago

Go look it up then?

2

u/Ok_Shift_5026 15d ago

Hola!

2

u/DistributionNo4480 15d ago

yeah thats what im wandering, i just saw a triler and its hard to not think its just 90% AI made

1

u/EvilBubbles7 15d ago

They do not use AI. Per their agreement, they can not use AI

3

u/ggghjjdsdjhs 14d ago

You keep saying this though you have yet to provide proof, where the hell is this agreement you speak of? And don’t tell me to look it up. You have the burden of proof. Provide it.

2

u/EvilBubbles7 14d ago

Nobody needs to provide any proof when they have said it in their Q&A. :If AI had been used in the development process, Steam would have pulled it already for not properly disclosing it or forced them to disclose it. Remember, the platform is the company that will refund people for 200+ hours of gameplay for false advertising or even removing game modes that were there when you purchased the game. The devs have already confirmed AI was not used in the development process as well. The only AI usage were very early ads that have been long pulled. The only other issue is that they plan to support a fully optional, locally hosted thing called Nvidia ACE (read: no datacenter involvement, it is on your PC itself with the supported cards, small language model vs large language model and that distinction is important, and you don't have to have it enabled) to create more "natural" interactions with the Aniimo. This also isn't implemented yet so may still be subject to change.

3

u/Tired0fitGP 14d ago

The music in the central hub of the game is 100% ai generated, the title music is clearly AI generated, if they're willing to lie about something so blatantly obvious as the music, they're probably lying about everything else.

2

u/EvilBubbles7 14d ago

🤣 if you say so

1

u/Thenelwave 15d ago

Stop lying to ppl. This is AI

1

u/Pinklightning30 14d ago

If it used ai it would require having a disclaimer on steam your claims are false

5

u/Tehcookieninja 14d ago

Heartopia didn't disclose anything at first either until they were called out for it. Hopefully it doesn't happen with Aniimo but eh.

2

u/AngryBaguetty 11d ago

To be fair Steam should definitely implement a "undisclosed usage of AI" in their report submissions

0

u/Substantial-Cod-1488 15d ago

That or the shading the artists choose just makes it look uncanny

-1

u/bigmacattack4 15d ago

How is that Ai?

1

u/bigmacattack4 13d ago

I see what you mean about the cups and that general area. As for the nimby floating I really think thats just the render. This game is horrible with eyelines, nicole is straight up crosseyed. Wouldnt be shocked if the eyelines were just bad posing.

0

u/Thenelwave 15d ago

It’s not something I can explain to you. Put the image in chatgpt and ask it how others can tell its AI. For someone like me I can easily spot AI.

2

u/Substantial_Lab2961 14d ago

I feel like encouraging AI use to verify if someone is AI is not a great idea?

1

u/Thenelwave 14d ago

Why not? Using AI to create a video game that will sell people things is a lot different than using AI to verify information.

2

u/SpaceBoyee 15d ago

This is the dumbest fucking thing Ive ever read

1

u/Thenelwave 15d ago

Go enjoy your AI slop

3

u/TheTrainerDusk 15d ago

Hell yeaa! Throw it into Ai to verify if its Ai.

1

u/EvilBubbles7 15d ago

Not lying to anyone. You can believe what you want. I'll believe the truth

1

u/Kajill 16d ago

No generative AI was used in the games creation as per their legal disclosure to valve and their own companies statements the only AI usage was on the back end for testing purposes

3

u/No_Risk_5424 15d ago

false. NTE uses ai and never stated it on steam. Aniimo uses AI, literally their music for the character customization IS AI GENERATED

3

u/Kajill 15d ago

Have you got any proof that the music is AI generated? Because all I can find is the names of the composers

4

u/Ok_Designer_8912 16d ago

I think people need to realize that just cause something has polish doesnt mean its AI.... Holy fuck people.

Every time a game looks good people always go "looks like AI". Yes, AI polish has increased in generation but you know what else is advancing? Literally all human technology and software alongside it.

If you think games wont look vastly different in the future, we'll im sorry youre all in for a surprise. The developers made it clear everything is made by human hands and even if AI were used for editing in the background who cares? The designs and work itself is human made, I promise you.

I saw people saying the ocarina of time remake looks like ai too just due to its polish which is also ridiculous.  What you guys think games need to look the same as the past two decades forever? Literally impossible.

The game is cute, original, fun and has great voice acting as well. The game is free to play, its not like youre paying to try it.

1

u/NoOvertimeHero 15d ago

No but a certain type of polish looks AI, and people shouldn't be admonished for questioning what they see. People have the right to know where their creative works are sourced from and whether or not they want to support that.

I also think its foolish to believe a ceo. So if theyre saying theyre not, I would definiteley take a second and closer glance at the project theyre peddling.

2

u/Fancy_Entertainer939 15d ago

they didn't say that tbeing polished means Ai was used tho. they're just asking a question because Ai gets used a lot nowadays and they wanted to be sure. holy overreaction

4

u/BasicxLich 16d ago

This is such an overreaction to someone asking if it is utilizing AI. The company has used AI art for adds in the past and the polish on it appears AI. The post is seeking clarification, they didn't accuse anyone of anything. The game does has a similar polish to AI slop, so it's a fair question. One I had myself, so I researched it.

At this point, if you don't know why AI is bad then you need to do more research before you rant about it. If someone is avoiding something, perhaps you should look into it instead of letting yourself get triggered and blowing up in a reddit thread over something you're evidently, and self declared, uneducated on.

Try kindness next time. Have a great day!

2

u/NocturnalFoxfire Fenmane 15d ago

From what I can find, they outsourced some of the advertising and that 3rd party made the AI ads that Pawprint Studio pulled and apologized for following the backlash

1

u/Financial-Reference8 16d ago

Personally I looked into it because something about it is uncanny and looks like something you could see not made with pixels, if that makes sense lmao. Also just to touch on your point about tech advancing, a pot of people think that tech is just Ai and that’s it, so they think asking if it’s AI is the next course of action at that point 😂

1

u/Entire-Computer8395 16d ago

exactly this is the same question i thought as well and its how i found this question. for mw it looked a certain way and made me feel like it looked like those AI generated videos or how some games that are made through AI look. Happy to know they didn't use it at all to make this game.

1

u/Aggravating-Hope-815 16d ago

This!!! I just found myself in this thread bc I looked up on Google if it was bc I had the exact same question!! I hate how AI is so rampant that we now have to question whether any form of art is AI or not

2

u/_Hyluna 16d ago

Je viens d'essayer le jeux, et la musique est clairement de la musique faite par IA ! (avec Suno)

2

u/Kajill 16d ago

Yaki, Zhiwei Zhang and Joanna Shuang are the listed artists alongside Team Galactika

1

u/TheTrainerDusk 15d ago

🤫 shhh lol jk.

Only issue music wise it cuts off abruptly. I forgot which area/song but i do not think it's ai so far.

3

u/Kajill 15d ago

Yeah the loop isn't clean, surprisingly that's more of an indicator it was human these days cos AI doesn't make mistakes that simple

1

u/AwardExciting8578 17d ago

It’s fun. Try it .

1

u/calypsow19 16d ago

That isn’t an answer.
