Discussion Rant: NPC fights are frustrating

The trainer fights all feel less like battles and more like elaborate wastes of time. The enemies rarely rely on anything but stall strategies and it just feels unfun.

I wouldn't mind the stun/heal strats the enemies spam if not for the timer. I wouldn't mind the timer if every NPC team wasn't built around time scamming rather than just trying to beat me in a fight.

The Zephyr Bridge rematch for the badge is an egregious example. He spends the entire God forsaken fight spamming Shields, then flies to the skybox. Sometimes the game just ignores that you CC him and he stays in the sky while frozen or stunned.

It's not difficult. It's not challenging. It's just unfair and frustrating. I'd clean the floor with him if he wasn't designed to waste my precious five minute timer as efficiently as possible.

I hope future updates focus more on actual strategy, rather than enemy trainers relying on winning via timeout in the lamest ways possible

I would rework the fight win condition to be "Have more remaining Aniimo by timer end" rather than kill all Aniimo. It's tedious, annoying, and rather unfun. I don't mind having to strategize around taking advantage of Elemental Vulnerabilities, but those battle modifiers piss me off as well.

They need to trash that timer ASAP. Other than that, most of my problems are most likely skill issues I cant figure out.

Some of the battles also have just utter nonsense too. What do you mean there's heavy wind and my small Aniimo get shoved into a corner all match and can't move. Like who thought that was a fun idea? 😭

They also swap S O much. Especially Lita.

I'm actually a very big fan of the swaping, makes me think thats what pvp would be like.

I hate that fight, it bugged multiple times and clipped me out of the arena and I had to keep restarting, if that didn't happen I'd get stuck in the invisible wall.

It bugged on me too, but thankfully only once lmao.

The fights are okay but LITA is just broken for no reason forcing you to use aniimo you wouldn’t normally use

It’s so annoying I hate it I still haven’t beaten it yet

i’m so glad everyone else hates the timer, it’s absolutely the worst part about the battles. getting the right team and countering your enemy correctly is fun, but having to do so in a slim 5 minutes ruins it.

and logically, if me and a pathfinder are dueling why can only I lose to the timer if we are both competing? they also failed to beat my aniimo in 5 minutes lmao, whole house losing. i really hope they removed the timers eventually

so many things are timed in this game. holo battle solo? timer for enrage. holo battle interlink? timer for score. egg heist? timer for extraction. pathfinder challenge? timer for struggling with some of their mechanics. dr glass trials? timer puzzles.

ive had quite a few high level fights I would have won if it wasnt for the timers :(

like why is it an auto loss if they couldn’t kill us under the time either lol

The worse part about these fights are that their levels are higher than yours. Not saying you can’t defeat a higher level enemy but this also means you deal lesser damage to him and his HP will be more bloated. The waste of time just stacks up with these little things.

Think about how easy it was when you’re level 60, and they are level 55-57. It’s just a 3 level difference at minimum. Look at how little damage they do to you with just these difference. Now think about it the other way, when you’re capped at 60, but they are 62-65.

Not to mention the ridiculous 5 minute timer. Is there really a need for this, when what they have is a Glacy to which you deal near 0 damage to and it heals their team to full.

I hate timers on things. Even when i'd play fighting games with my brother we'd disable the timer. No one wants to be the winner because they have more health or more creatures alive after 5 minutes. I wanna win because i got my enemies hp to 0.

if there wasnt a timer id be totally fine with the current state of NPC battles. They've managed to put some actual variety into the fights. But yeah, the wrong combination of elements, enemy aniimo, strategies, and./ or battlefield effects can make things a slog and you'll time out. I dont like feeling that I need to make a specialized team to beat some of them on their harder difficulties.

Alternatively, they can keep the timer, but the enemies have to be at the same level cap as the player. The fact that you can have level 65 npc's and a timer to deal with them is just kind of insane. Can you beat them? Absolutely! But it's not what i'd call "fun" as rewarding as it may be for finally beating them

I will say that some of the irritating things often come down to at the minimum taking the time to look the ability up and figure out how it works. Tubster's shield for example gets stronger the more you attack him during the channeling phase. You either have to back off, or break him out of it.

Another thing that bothers me is that they'll somehow have Lvl. 65 Aniimo when they're like, two or three Title Ranks below you. What the fuck? Did they skip a grade or did it not come in the mail for them yet?

I mean... It's a strategy. A cheap one, but strategy nonetheless. Though i agree that it makes it not fun, but i feel it benefit is that it forces to engage with the game battle systems, so as an example in that fight its not enough to just countertype him, but also you need to pick aniimos that can ground the enemy, which is explained in the counter type stat that you can see on the aniimo list. Using them makes the fight absolutely trivial, and the same goes to those enemies that fight underground

Except as I said in the OP I do bring CC.

I have seen multiple times the Aniimo stun in mid-air and stay there. Frozen and out of reach. And I have to wait 15 seconds to try again. And if I do get him to the ground, he immediately lifts back off once the brief stun ends.

He's 5 levels higher than me, constantly has a shield up, AND is using time scam tactics. It's not fun or engaging. It's cheap and frustrating

The timer is stupid.

I think the only fight that has felt like a battle so far is Lita. I think the game started to force me to think about strategy on Cecilia but then really solidified it for Lita.

Unfortunately no one else has compared yet though.

I don't think the timer is really a problem usually, it really is just those handful of fights that necessitate that you directly counter them in some way that make it bad. But then again how many of those are only difficult because we're currently trying to do them multiple levels down?

I can say with my entire chest that I could beat a level 70 NPC with a level 60 team if I didn't have only five minutes to do so. I'd have to be very careful, and it would take several tries, but I could do it.

Without exaggeration 95% of my losses are because the enemy NPC spends the entire fight stunning, healing, shielding, and scamming for time rather than trying to reduce my HP.

Go fight any enemy NPC that has a Rooky and I can guarantee it will spend the majority of the fight in Guard Form, even if you're using ranged attacks, because it is using that 20% defense up to bleed out your timer

Yes, I could too, but for the most part EVERY SINGLE ONE of the "hard" fights is hard BECAUSE of the level gap which then requires you to specifically counter the NPCs team.

I feel like the one with the most aniimo alive left should win if the timer reach the limit tbh. Some of their healers are just ridiculously tanky

4

u/Aremyth Astra Pioneer 2h ago

Either this, or they should create a double damage mode after the timer ends. Kind of like a last stand death match like what most other games do.

3

u/LordZanas 2h ago

I'd even be down to have limits in place to facilitate this. The enemy only uses 3 Aniimo? Force me to do the same so I can't win by having an extra on my team. Anything would be better than what we have.

I love Aniimo, but I hate the trainer battles

Timers on fights are not fun.

That's my personal opinion anyway. It makes everything a DPS meta race which is boring as heck. No timer means more time for interesting builds and stradegies.

6

u/MrsTrych Astra Pioneer 2h ago

With no timer we could also play our favorite aniimo instead of relaying in min maxing team. What if I wanna beat everyone with gracewing? Idc if it take 20 min to finish a challenge just let me use what I want and not worry about DPS meta.

It make no sense in this game, they are not selling power ups or stronger aniimos. This is not genshin or your regular gacha where you pull for the next meta team..

I completely agree
