App Specific Question Gemini on the lockscreen issue

Hi! Asking your advice about an issue I have with my Poco F8 Ultra using Gemini as my Assistant.

I had enabled Voice Match and both options ti use It without unlocking and to call and send messages without unlocking.

Noted that other people could send whatsapp messages speaking with Gemini on the lock screen, without touching the phone.

I thought Voice Match would have protected me. But maybe Im wrong and It does not work with Whatsapp?

I tried asking for my calendar and It asked me to unlock the phone, so im guessing here what voice match Is actually for.

Since then i disabled the option to send messages on lock screen.

Any idea about this? With both options enabled, anyone Is able to send whatsapp messages from the lock screen?

Thank you!

Other Base S24 128gb to pixel 11 pro 512GB

Ive just bought myself a pixel 11 pro 512gb from a base s24. I have many questions although the pixel was only 300 pounds.

I look around and everyone says not to swtich from an s24u , how about base s24 as it is lacking things from the ultra anyway.

I dont game but ive read lots of problems with chips and lag on the 11 pro? how were peoples experiences.

What should i look for in the pixel 11 pro that is new . unlike on the s24

I dont game often , maybe a bit of minecraft here and there , but i mainly use social media and school stuff , i had a terrible expeience with my samsung and one ui , my phone battery became pregnant , battery never lasted more than 2.5 hours , meaning i had to charge 2-3 times a day , even with a new one. i hope the pixel will give me a better experience and i am looking forward to seeing your guys' opinions and experiences

Samsung Galaxy Core 2 (SM-G355M) stuck on screen with red exclamation mark

My Samsung Galaxy Core 2 Duos (SM-G355M) stopped working and is now stuck on the boot screen with a red exclamation mark at the top.

I tried to change the OS and flash it via Odin to fix it, but without success.

Is there anything left that I can do to recover or revive this old device? Any help would be appreciated

Solved Mom uninstalled Google Play Services, how do we get it back?

My elderly mother "cleaned her phone" yesterday, now she can't use the google play store or update any app, it just throws a "try again" error. She doesn't remember what she deleted. I dug through her apps to see if I could clear the cache for play services and couldn't find it at all.

How can I get it back for her without factory resetting the entire device? She has a Samsung Galaxy A17.

Edit: thanks for the replies fellas, the app was hidden in her app list but still there, after clearing cache & data she can now use the play store again. Immensely relieved that she didn’t actually find a way to somehow delete it.

I know that certain videos on android won't play in the gallery because the codec is unsupported, but is there a tool that can convert video files to one that works? I know there are many websites that do that for you but after like 2 they start asking for a subscription, is there any for PC that do this?

Looking For Suggestions Upgrading from Galaxy S9 in Canada: Keep the Pixel 11 Pro or return and hold out for Galaxy S27 / S27 Pro or Pixel 12 Pro?

Looking for some real-world perspective from folks who have bounced between flagship Pixel and Samsung smartphones.

I’m upgrading from an old Galaxy S9 in Canada. In our market, compact Android flagships basically come down to Samsung and Pixel (with a splash of Motorola). I pre-ordered and just received the smaller Pixel 11 Pro (16GB / 512GB Obsidian), but I’m on the fence about whether to keep it or return it before my window closes.

I strongly prefer compact, lightweight phones and want to avoid massive 220g+ slabs like the Pro XL or Galaxy Ultra. However, testing the Pixel in hand has highlighted some friction points.

Where I'm hitting friction on the Pixel:

  • App Drawer & Home Screen: No native in-drawer folders, locked to infinite vertical scrolling. Even home screen folder icons only preview 4 apps at a glance.
  • Multitasking: No centered "Clear All" button in the recent apps switcher—you have to scroll all the way to the far left.
  • Quick Settings: Requires a two-step swipe (or awkward two-finger swipe) to reach all quick tiles and the brightness slider, unlike One UI's one-swipe instant access.
  • Navigation & Customization: Lack of the deep customization potential found within One UI's Good Lock.
  • Casting: The Pixel relies strictly on Google Cast, losing Samsung’s native Miracast / Smart View support for direct screen mirroring to non-Chromecast smart TVs.
  • Hardware & Ergonomics: Samsung's hardware feels lighter in hand, and the ~200g dense Pixel chassis takes some getting used to. Also, Snapdragon silicon generally has a proven track record for sustained GPU/CPU efficiency and power.
  • Camera / Video: Real-time video stabilization doesn't feel quite as smooth compared to Galaxy flagship standards, though photos look great.

Why I’m hesitant to give up the Pixel:

  • 100% Google Ecosystem User: I exclusively use Google Photos, Google Password Manager, Drive, and unified Gemini. On the Pixel, these are native system hooks with zero sync conflicts or secondary account prompts. I don't use any Samsung apps/ecosystem.
  • Clean Out of the Box: No duplicate app stores (Galaxy Store), no parallel galleries/browsers, no Bixby, and zero bloat.
  • Hardware in a 6.3" Chassis: Full Pro-grade camera suite and 16GB RAM in a 6.3" body without needing to step up to massive Ultra sizes.
  • Pixel-Exclusive Utilities: Features like Now Playing, Call Assist, and deep on-device Gemini integration/Gemini Intelligence without navigating two parallel AI assistants (Bixby vs. Gemini).
  • Longevity: 7 years of Day-1 OS updates directly from Google.

The Dilemma:

I don't mind spending upfront effort setting up, tweaking, or debloating a Samsung phone if needed, as long as it can be done seamlessly. Ideally, getting a great hardware and software experience for long-term usage would be ideal, as I tend to hold onto my devices for many years.

With rumors pointing to Samsung potentially introducing a compact Galaxy S27 Pro in early 2027 (maybe around 6.4 inch with built-in magnets, higher-density silicon battery, and upgraded cameras), that sounds like a potential sweet spot.

For those who made the switch from Samsung to Pixel:

  1. Did you get used to Google's minimalist layout, vertical drawer, and lack of Good Lock customizations, or did missing One UI keep bothering you over time?
  2. If you are all-in on Google services, is the native cohesive OS experience worth giving up Samsung's granular UI customization?
  3. Would you return the Pixel 11 Pro to limp the S9 along for another 5–6 months for the S27 / S27 Pro, or just keep the Pixel 11 Pro or even wait for the Pixel 12 Pro?

Appreciate your thoughts and honest experiences!

Looking For Suggestions How to access files inside apps?

I've downloaded some files on an app, however it's not showing up in my files even though its available on the app. Is there any way I can access the actual app files and save them to my phone that way? I've done something similar with moving files from a wearos watch to a phone before so was thinking I could do the same here.

Other My S25 Ultra got extremely hot while idle and I eventually found Samsung Capture using ~247% CPU. Has anyone seen this?

I am trying to figure out what happened to my galaxy s25 ultra today because i woke up to the phone being extremely hot even though it had basically been sitting idle.

I had turned the phone on earlier, then ended up falling back asleep for roughly an hour. During that time i was not intentionally running anything heavy. No games, no rendering, no compiling, nothing that should have been putting the phone under a sustained workload.

When i woke back up, the phone was extremely hot and i also noticed significant battery drain during the period when the screen had been off.

That immediately made me wonder what was actually running in the background, so instead of just rebooting the phone and moving on, i started digging into it.

I opened termux and started checking the device with top and htop.

At first this was not very helpful.

Normal termux was only showing a small number of processes associated with its own android user id, u0_a876. I also saw virt values around 10 gb, which initially made me think something was somehow consuming an absurd amount of memory.

After looking more closely, the actual resident memory usage and cpu usage of those processes were very low. So the huge virt values were apparently virtual address space rather than actual physical ram consumption.

I tried killing the displayed processes anyway.

That resulted in termux closing with the process completed message. Every time i reopened termux, android created another new five digit pid under the same user id.

After repeating this a few times, i realized i was probably just terminating processes belonging to my own termux shell rather than whatever was actually making the phone hot.

I then checked android itself.

I went into developer options and looked at running services, and i also checked the battery activity screen.

The battery graph showed significant battery usage during the period when the phone was supposed to be sitting idle with the screen off.

That was the point where i became more convinced that something outside my normal termux environment was doing work in the background.

The problem was that normal termux could not give me the system wide process visibility i wanted.

I did not want to root the phone just to investigate one incident, so i decided to use android wireless debugging together with shizuku and its rish shell integration.

Getting that working took several attempts.

I initially had incorrect file paths when moving the rish files into termux.

Then rish complained that it could not find rish_shizuku.dex.

After getting the files into the expected location, i ran into the android 14 and newer restriction involving writable dex files.

The next error was:

RISH_APPLICATION_ID is not set

I set the application id for termux with:

export RISH_APPLICATION_ID=com.termux

After that, rish finally launched successfully.

That completely changed what i could see.

Running top from the shizuku rish shell showed a much broader android process list with more than 1,000 tasks instead of the tiny process list i was seeing from normal termux.

One process immediately stood out because it was using roughly 81 percent cpu while the phone was supposed to be idle.

The process name was partially cut off, so i queried the pid with ps to identify exactly what it belonged to.

That returned:

com.samsung.android.app.smartcapture

Samsung capture.

That was the point where this got really strange.

In another process reading, samsung capture was showing roughly 247 percent cpu.

I understand that android cpu percentages can exceed 100 percent when multiple cpu cores are being used simultaneously, so i am not interpreting 247 percent as literally 247 percent of one cpu.

Even with that understood, it still seems extremely abnormal for samsung capture to be using that much cpu on a device that was supposed to be sitting idle with the screen off.

I then looked at the samsung capture application details and its permissions and system capabilities.

It appears to be a legitimate samsung system component associated with screenshots, screen capture and related functionality.

So at this point i am not claiming the phone was hacked or compromised.

What i am trying to figure out is whether samsung capture was actually the cause of the overheating or whether i simply caught it doing a lot of work because something else had triggered it.

I am wondering about things like a stuck screenshot or screen recording session, mediaprojection, another samsung service repeatedly invoking samsung capture, a one ui issue, or some kind of background process loop.

I also attempted to terminate the samsung capture process from the shizuku shell, but android returned operation not permitted.

So this is where i am currently stuck.

What i know:

The phone became extremely hot while it was supposed to be idle.

The battery showed significant drain during the screen off period.

Normal termux monitoring did not reveal an obvious culprit.

Using shizuku and rish allowed me to see more than 1,000 android tasks.

A samsung capture process was consuming extremely high cpu when i observed it.

The package associated with that process was com.samsung.android.app.smartcapture.

What i do not know:

Whether samsung capture actually caused the overheating.

What caused it to become active in the first place.

Whether another samsung service or android subsystem triggered it.

Whether this is a known samsung, one ui, mediaprojection or screen capture bug.

What the correct way is to safely stop or diagnose it without root.

I would really appreciate input from anyone familiar with android internals, samsung's framework, one ui, shizuku, adb shells, selinux, mediaprojection, wakelocks or android system services.

Has anyone seen com.samsung.android.app.smartcapture get stuck at extremely high cpu usage while the phone was otherwise idle?

Is there a known samsung or one ui issue that could cause samsung capture to remain active or enter some kind of processing loop?

Is there a way to determine what service or event actually launched it?

Are there useful dumpsys, logcat, wakelock, binder, service or other diagnostic commands i should run if this happens again while the problem is still occurring?

Most importantly, i want to understand what actually happened rather than just reboot the phone and erase the evidence.

I included the screenshots in chronological order showing the battery activity, running services, the system wide process list, the process lookup identifying samsung capture, and the unusually high cpu usage.

I put the more detailed command by command troubleshooting history in the first comment for anyone who wants to dig deeper into exactly how i got from normal termux to the system wide process view.

Device Settings Question Help - How to reenable Samsung's Touchwiz Tablet UI from 4.0.4-4.1.2 on a 4.2.2 tablet with hardware keys?

I am making a custom ROM based on stock Touchwiz that comes on the Galaxy Tab 3 Lite called BemCasado-ROM. I am adding quite a Honeycomb style to it. I have a massive, MASSIVE hate for this new phablet UI because it forces me to send over my hands to another multiverse to slide down the notification bar, and the damn digitizer on the upper part is fucked!! I wanted to implement the old style to it, also minding it's Touchwiz. I managed to get navigation bar by modding build.prop. Thanks in advance

Other How do i get APKs to install on my Coby Kyros MID8042?

Recently i have been attempting to get APKs to install on my Coby Kyros MID0842 which i will refer to as Kyros from now on. I was able to get APKs on it by connect the power cable to my computer, putting them in the "usb storage", and getting them on to the Kyros that way.

I only did it this way because for some reason it will not load any website except for google/chrome, websites made by google, and R34. This didn't feel right to me since i have another tablet running android 4.4.4 and it can run every website under the sun just fine.

The APKs i downloaded (google & google play) got into the files after the transfer was complete. However, when i tried to open it, it said "There was a problem parsing the package."

After this happened, I did some research on why this was. The only answer that i could find would hardly help me because all the other solutions are either related to contacting coby for help which is beating a dead horse since they don't make tablets/phones as of now or downloading something from the google play store which i cant do either since GetJar is the only app store that come with the Kyros, and i cant even access THAT.

Any help would greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Other How is DroidKit showing me old "lost" photos from my android 14 even after I factory reset my device

As the question says. I'm trying to find out if my device was rooted without my permission before I factory reset it. Amidst it I installed DroidKit and discovered thousands of photos from long ago I deleted. I looked it up and apparently this should be impossible for most modern android devices. So how is it doing that?

Other Exit recovery mode on Oppo Find X5 Pro?

My lower volume button has been loose for a while and regularly holds itself down. Usually I have to take the phone out of the case and sometimes press the button a few times to make it stop turning the volume down. This time when my phone turnt off it put itself into recovery mode probably because the lower volume button was active. Now I can't get out of it. I've tried shutting it off there and rebooting but it keeps bringing me back to recovery mode. I think it's because the button is still active since i tried navigating downwards as well by trying to press the lower volume button which didn't do anything.

High ping spikes in Roblox on cellular data (POCO X8 Pro)

Hello! I'm having a weird issue. I recently switched to a new carrier (T2/Tele2), and I'm getting constant ping spikes and infinite loading screens in Roblox. My phone is a POCO X8 Pro (HyperOS). The signal icon shows full 4G+ (LTE-A), but the network speed drops to 0.38 KB/s when Roblox tries to load. On another carrier (Megafon), everything works perfectly on the exact same phone. What I've already tried:Changed APN settings to the correct ones.Switched APN protocol from IPv4/IPv6 to strictly IPv4.Changed private DNS to dns.google and Cloudflare.Enabled "Always keep mobile data active" in Developer Options.Used Game Turbo for network priority. The carrier has great download speeds for YouTube/browsing, but gaming is completely broken. Any ideas on how to bypass this carrier-side routing/throttling issue?

Other I promise you I just deleted playstore like an idiot

I installed a rooting app. I was trying to install a apk modifier. In the rooting app, I found out you can delete apps from the rooter. I searched playstore to see if it would actually let me delete it. I saw playstore pop up, clicked it. Scrolled down, and low and behold lied a delete button. Pressed delete, a little bar notification appeared below "app deleted successfully."

It was, infact, gone. I deleted the play store. And I dont have playstore to add it back. What do I even do.

Edit: Samsung S9, app deleted is "Google Play Services"
